Question 1: Explain how your results from the identification task suggest categorical perception. (If your results differ significantly from typical results, describe how they differ.)
As for the /ba/, I almost distinguish it well, and the boundary of the /ba/ and /da/ is between
the 7 and 8. And I percept the first 8th are /ba/, with the change of F2, /ba/ turned into /da/.
The boundary of /da/ and /ga/ is between the 13 and 14. But I didn’t percept the boundary.
As for the /da/ and /ga/, I didn’t do it quite well. In detail, I failed to percept /ga/, in the last
several test sound, I felt very confusing, just like i can’t hear it clearly. So I mistakenly
percept /ga/ or /ba/, in fact the difference between the /ga/ and /ba/ is big.
Question 2:Explain how your results from the discrimination task suggest categorical
perception. (If your results differ significantly from typical results, describe how they
differ.)
During the same category, the tested pair sound are same, thought there is slightly difference between their F2. Between the 7th and 8th sound is the boundary of the /ba/ and /da/, so the peak is at there which is obvious for people to distinguish the difference,,to find the difference is more easy. But Similar to the identification task, i failed to find the boundry of the /da/ and /ga/, so the the boundary of /da/ and /ga/ is at 13th and 14th , but I failed to find the boundary, so the last several sound I also make mistake. The last pairs sound are all /ga/, so there should not exist peak. But I percept them as different sound.
