SPEAKING
Speaking QuestionDirections: You will now be asked a question about a familiar
topic. After you hear the question, you will have 15 seconds to prepare your response
and 45 seconds to speak.
1. You will now be asked a question about a familiar topic. After you hear the
question, you will have 15 seconds to prepare your response and 45 seconds to
speak.Which job do you think is the most important in your society: the doctor, the
teacher, or the farmer? Give specific reasons to support your answer.
As far as I am concerned, the most important of these is the doctor.
Teachers and farmers are important, but their jobs are easier to fill than the doctors’
jobs. Farmers do not usually have to be highly educated. Their work is usually taught
to them from their parents, generation to generation. Teachers usually only need a
degree from universities, and can learn to teach with experience. Doctors need the
most schooling, and not many people can face blood and sickness and death every
day.The other reason doctors are most important is that food can be imported to a
country, and school can be done online or with books alone. Doctors deal with people
when they are at their weakest points. Doctors have to face death every day. Their job
is very difficult, and not many people have the stamina to do what they do.
important”“in your society”。
2. You will now be asked to give your opinion about a familiar topic. After you
hear the question, you will have 15 seconds to prepare your response and 45 seconds
to speak.Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? If a person wants to
be happy, he or she should like his or her job or work. Use specific reasons and
examples to support your answer.
I think being able to enjoy what we do is a big part of overall
happiness. We usually spend one-third of our day in the workplace. If we hate our job,
then one-third of our days is spent unhappily. Further, when we finish work, we
inevitably go home and complain or ruminate on how unhappy we are with our career.
If we enjoy our job, it is a pleasure, and our overall mood is lifted. Most importantly,
our jobs should be a reflection of our passions. I hope that all people pursue a career
that fits with their own personal interests and hobbies. I work in a field that I
thoroughly enjoy, and if I didn’t, I think I’d be pretty miserable. If we do not do a job
that we love and believe in, we do that work without passion, without purpose or care.
It is important to our lives that we work in a field that makes us happy.
or work”。
Speaking QuestionDirections: You will be asked to give your opinion about a
familiar topic. After you hear the question, you will have 30 seconds to prepare your
response and 60 seconds to speak.
M: How’s your project going?W: Pretty good. How about yours?M:
Well, I am struggling with choosing between two topics. One idea came from our
school newspaper. Have you read our school newspaper recently? W: Yes. Why?M:
Did you notice the open letter about the nature club? W: Of course.M: How do you
like that idea? W: I think it is really unnecessary to do this. There are other ways to
get close to nature. Field trips are just one of them, but not necessarily the best one. M:
The free bus is good though. W: It is easier for students to drive cars or take buses to
the parks nearby to take a break from studying. The free bus doesn’t help much. M: It
is good for students to learn more about nature and the environment through these
field trips. W: I don’t think participating in outdoor field trips has any educational
value. If students just wander around a field, they really won’t learn anything since
there is no guidance from professors. M: I see your point. But I do think it is good to
get off campus. W: That is absolutely true. I can’t agree more on this point.
3. You will now read a short passage and then listen to a talk on the same topic.
You will then be asked a question about them. After you hear the question, you will
have 30 seconds to prepare your response and 60 seconds to speak. In Need of a
Nature ClubI am a natural science student here on campus. I really think our school
should provide money to create a nature club for all those who are interested in nature.
There are at least two reasons for doing so. Many students enjoy outdoor activities

Task 1
Talk about a volunteer activity you are interested in. Explain
the reasons why you enjoy doing it.
1. Help to provide more fresh air 2. Make the
environment looks nice.
street, help children and older people等等。
Task 2
Some people prefer to work in the same place, others prefer
to work in a place that’s away from traditional buildings or
workplace. Which one would you prefer? Explain your reasons in
details.
这是一道很明显的prefer A or B的题目。选择work in
而选择away from的考生可以从变化环境不boring等方面进行讨论例如to work at home.

Question 1-11
If food is allowed to stand for some time, it putrefies .When the putrefied material
is examined microscopically ,it is found to be teeming with bacteria. Where do these
bacteria come from , since they are not seen in fresh food? Even until the mid-nineteenth
century, many people believed that such microorganisms originated by spontaneous
(5 ) generation ,a hypothetical process by which living organisms develop from nonliving
matter.
The most powerful opponent of the theory of spontaneous generation was the French
chemist and microbiologist Louis Pasteur(1822-1895).Pasteur showed that structures
present in air closely resemble the microorganisms seen in putrefying materials .He did
(10) this by passing air through guncotton filters, the fibers of which stop solid particles. After

1 托福阅读真题集锦(一)PASSAGE 1By the mid-nineteenth century, the term "icebox" had entered the American language, but ice was still only beginning to affect the diet of ordinary citizens in the United States. The ice trade grew with the growth of cities. Ice was used in hotels, taverns, and hospitals, and by some forward-looking city dealers in fresh meat, fresh fish, and butter. After the Civil War (1861-1865),as ice was used to refrigerate freight cars, it also came into household use. Even before 1880, half the ice sold in New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore, and one-third of that sold in Boston and Chicago, went to families for their own use. This had become possible because a new household convenience, the icebox, a precursor of the modern refrigerator, had been invented. Making an efficient icebox was not as easy as we might now suppose. In the early nineteenth century, the knowledge of the physics of heat, which was essential to a science of refrigeration, was rudimentary. The commonsense notion that the best icebox was one that prevented the ice from melting was of course mistaken, for it was the melting of the ice that performed the cooling. Nevertheless, early efforts to economize ice included wrapping the ice in blankets, which kept the ice from doing its job. Not until near the end of the nineteenth century did inventors achieve the delicate balance of insulation and circulation needed for an efficient icebox. But as early as 1803, an ingenious Maryland farmer, Thomas Moore, had been on the right track. He owned a farm about twenty miles outside the city of Washington, for which the village of Georgetownwas the market center. When he used an icebox of his own design to transport his butter to market, he found that customers would pass up the rapidly melting stuff in the tubs of his competitors to pay a premium price for his butter, still fresh and hard in neat, one-pound bricks. One advantage of his icebox, Moore explained, was that farmers would no longer have to travel to market at night in order to keep their produce cool. 1. What does the passage mainly discuss? (A) The influence of ice on the diet (B) The development of refrigeration (C) The transportation of goods to market (D) Sources of ice in the nineteenth century 2. According to the passage , when did the word "icebox" become part of the language of the United States?

Revealing Coloration
Many animals use coloration to protect themselves from predators. One
defensive strategy involving the use of coloration is what is known as revealing
coloration. Animals employing this strategy have an area of bright color on some
part of their body, this bright color is usually hidden from predators’ view.
When approached by a predator, the animal suddenly reveals the area of bright
color, this unexpected display of color startles or confuses the predator and
provides the would-be-prey with an opportunity to escape.

PASSAGE 3
The Native Americans of northern California were highly skilled at
basketry, using the reeds, grasses, barks, and roots they found around them
to fashion articles of all sorts and sizes-not only trays, containers,
and cooking pots, but hats, boats, fish traps, baby carriers, and
ceremonialobjects.
Of all these experts, none excelled the Pomo — a group who lived on
or near the coast during the 1800's, and whose descendants continue to
live in parts of the same region to this day. They made baskets three feet
in diameter and others no bigger than a thimble. The Pomo people were
masters of decoration. Some of their baskets were completely covered with
shell pendants; others with feathers that made the baskets' surfaces as
soft as the breasts of birds. Moreover, the Pomo
people made use of more weaving techniques than did their neighbors.

I enjoy taking risks and trying new things for the following reasons. First of
all, I believe that life is short and I must live it to the fullest. I always try

traveling with families and friends, and talking to people from all walks of life.
Second, life is more exciting when I try new stuff to challenge myself. For example,
