一、教材分析
本单元是高二英语上册的第五单元，整册书共十个单元，教学内容贴近现代生活，富有较强的时代气息，教材涉及社会和自然科学，文化知识面很广：科技、媒体、建筑、诗歌、地理、急救、环保等，在教学活动的设计上对学生提出了更高的要求，特别是在听力和阅读方面。
第五单元涉及的是地理知识，中心话题是“不列颠群岛”，整个单元的热身、阅读等语言知识和语言技能项目都是围绕该话题展开的。
单元的第一篇课文标题是The British Isles，与本单元的话题相同，是单元教学中的重点，一般分两节课进行，我要说的是阅读训练课。
作为一篇说明文，课文从总体上介绍了不列颠群岛的地理位置（location）、气候(climate)、文化(culture)、历史（history)、语言（language）等概况。
二、学情分析
本学期本人担任一文一理两个平行班的英语教学。
大多数学生经过高一的学习在听说读写方面均有进步，但发展不平衡。
有的学生能够教迅速较准确地理解课文，有的学生能大致理解课文，有的学生对课文是不知所云。
主要的困扰是：一词多意现象，长句，该记得词没记住，知识面太狭窄，不善于把握文章的结构特点。
因此，在教学中应从基础做起，有区分度，以使不同水平的学生均有所收获。
三、教学目标
1、认知目标
①了解不列颠群岛的地理、气候、文化、历史、语言等方面的知识；
②了解并掌握此类说明文的结构特征。
2、技能目标
①培养学生概括段落主题的能力；
②培养学生获取具体信息及把文字描述转化为地图信息的能力；
③通过复述课文，促使学生消化知识的能力及用英语思考的能力。

3、情感目标
不列颠群岛是英语的发源地，学生应该了解不列颠群岛的概况，拓展知识，开阔视野，胸怀世界。
四、教学重难点
本课阅读容量正常，阅读材料内容不难理解，但对于我所带的学生来说，理解文章开头和结尾两段时具有困难（在这两段九个句子中有六个是含从句的复合句），所以本课教学的难点之一在于帮助学生分析句子结构正确理解复杂的长句。
难点之二在于复述课文，因为复述课文在对学生记忆知识、消化知识、能力输出（即学生的用）等方面提出了更高的要求。
本课是一篇主题明确结构清晰的说明文，我认为在教学处理上应注重（1）对文章的整体认知即框架结构的认知（2）获取细节信息的能力(Post-reading Ex.2&3)及把文字描述转化为地图信息的能力(Post-reading Ex.1)。
这些是高二的学生应该做到的也是能做到的。
五、教学方法
1.问答法:帮助学生理解文章的细节。
2.翻译法:适当地运用翻译可帮助学生理解文章的难点。
3.任务型教学法：通过完成任务调动学生达到教学目的

1. 导入从单元话题引入课文标题，通过地图展示不列颠群岛所在位置，并简介课文内容，为学生阅读课文作铺垫。

2．词汇准备（5分钟）复习单词表上相关单词；用幻灯片呈现在课文中出现、学生学过但可能不记得的词并进行学习（如view, separate）。
这样学生就可以避免因查单词而打断思路或因认错词而错误理解了。
3. 听录音，获取段落大意（6分钟）通过该步骤的训练培养学生找出主题句或者概括段落大意、理清文章结构能力。
幻灯片可以方便快捷地向学生展示文章清晰的框架结构。
4．Detailed Reading（12分钟）完成Post-reading 1,2&3. 培养学生获取具体信息及把文字描述转化为地图信息的能力。
充分利用多媒体工具完成Ex.1，并趁热打铁让学生利用地图区分几个容易混淆的概念:UK, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, The Republic of Ireland, 并由此理解不列颠文化多样性（diversity）的由来。

九、教学反思
本次教学基本达到了教学目标，解决了难点，凸显了重点，但有遗憾之处：在Detailed Reading 中，由于时间关系未能逐段设置问题；地图的使用在帮助学生明白相关地理知识方面起了重要作用，但有少数学生特别是理科的学生还是不清楚UK由几部分组成之类的问题，在下一节课中应加以复习。
