Havre de Grace
Years ago, Americans used decoys (假肢) to hunt ducks and other waterbirds. Those days are gone. But collecting artful decoys is now popular. Havre de Grace is a town in the America state of Maryland, one part of which is famous for its wildlife. Captain Jobes is one of the top decoy cravers in Havre de Grace. Hunters use decoys to get ducks and geese to come close enough to shoot. The wooden birds are so highly respected here that Havre de Grace calls itself the decoy capital of the world. It also has a museum with more than 1,000 decoys. Most were hand made.
新人教版高二英语测试题及答案(1)

Unit1考点透视考例回顾1. Sitting in his now-famous wheelchair... Hawking told the students about his theories and thoughts... (Reading)【考点】-ing形式作状语时,其逻辑主语应该与句子的主语保持一致。
本句中的sitting动作由Hawking发出。
【考例1】Finding her car stolen, _____.A. a policeman was asked to helpB. the area was searched thoroughlyC. it was looked for everywhereD. she hurried to a policeman for help【解析】find动作应该由人来发出,所以句子的主语应该指人。
A、D两项主语都是人,据句意可知,应选D。
此句可以转换成:When she found her car stolen, she hurried to a policeman for help.【考例2】Suddenly, a tall man driving a golden carriage____ the girl and took her away, _____ in the woods.A. seizing; disappearedB. seized; disappearedC. seizing;disappearingD. seized; disappearing【解析】由题中的and可知,第一空所填词应与took并列,所以用seized;disappear 是不及物动词所以用其-ing形式作状语;disappearing的逻辑主语就是句子的主语a tall man,故选D。
2. Do you have anything that you want to add?(Grammar)【考点】当谓语动词为be, have, give, bring等时,作定语的不定式常用主动式表示被动含义。

Text 10In 1873, a boy named Chester Greenwood used to ice skate with his friends. However, on really cold days, his ears would get too cold to stay outside for very long. Chester decided to solve this problem. He thought about how to keep his ears warm. He wanted to cover his ears with warm fur. His grandmother helped him sew two pieces of fur to a piece of wire. He put the wire over his head. Now one piece of fur covered each ear. He called his invention “earmuffs”.When he first went out to skate wearing his earmuffs, his friends pointed and laughed at his new invention. But soon his friends had to go inside. Their ears were cold. They saw that Chester could stay outside for a long time because his ears were warm. Soon they wanted a pair of earmuffs of their own. Chester continued to improve his invention. When he was 18 years old, the U.S. government recognized earmuffs as his invention. Only Chester was allowed to make and sell earmuffs. By 1883, when Chester was 25 years old, he had his own factory. It made thirty thousand pairs of earmuffs per year!。

The issue gradually became clear after debates heated up. However, all of a sudden, it became a worry again. In an announcement of six national departments in October, including the Ministry of Public Health and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a small dose (剂量) of melamine in the milk and dairy products is allowed. For example, 1 mg/kg is OK for powdered milk (奶粉) for infants (婴儿) and maximum of 2.5 mg/kg acceptable for other powdered milk and dairy products. The public health officials and experts said that zero tolerance of melamine is impossible because food has to be packed. A small portion of melamine comes along with the packing materials. Most of the consumers believe that “melamine free”is one of the most important standards for qualified safe milk and dairy products. The test results showed the products with “no melamine”tags (标签) and those with that chemical on the blacklist (黑名单). Didn’t they mean that some companies can produce milk withoutmelamine? Then why are 1 mg and 2.5 mg of melamine acceptable for our milk and dairy products? It means that now melamine has gained new access to our milk and dairy products.Melamine contaminated (受污染的) milk has driven the country into a panic. According to the latest findings of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), scientists are unable to determine what level of melamine is not harmful at present.Consumers have a right to say NO to it altogether.4. I knew it would suit me best at first sight. But when I looked at the price tag (标签), I knew I had to give it up.The love for beautiful clothes has been planted in my heart the day when I was born to be a woman. Several years ago I read an article in a magazine. The article stated that when a woman is at her best time, she is usually poor or tasteless, so she can’t get the right clothes; when she can afford to buy the clothes she likes, she often finds that they do not suit her anymore. On the way home, I was quite disturbed by such thoughts. It was just a pity, like many other pities. I thought to myself this way. But when I was about to enter the building where I was living, I saw the big mirror placed in the entrance. I saw a girl in it who was in cheap but cleanly washed sweater and jeans. She was rather young, healthy and energetic. For quite a while I was touched by what I had seen in the mirror. Then I almost forgot the tale: A person without shoes cried until he saw a man without feet. Being young without good clothes is like the person without shoes. I should have felt grateful that I haven’t lost my feet.8 How did the author feel when she decided not to buy the skirt?A.
