AEarlier this year, the best company at surveying the rich in China announced that more than 60 % of the people it surveyed had already immigrated to another country, or were considering doing so.The question for the Hurun Report, which publishes an annual China rich list, was why? Was pollution driving people abroad, weariness over China's political crackdowns, or something else entirely? It turns out the questions also nagged Rupert Hoogewerf, founder of Hurun. At the time, his best guess was that pollution and the desire to park some assets abroad were driving rich Chinese to the United States, Canada, and Australia--the top three destinations for those leaving China. But to find out for sure, he conducted a follow-up survey that is being released today, and Fortune got exclusive early access. Hurun teamed up with Visas Consulting Group to ask 141 wealthy Chinese questions about emigration and where they're moving their money. The researchers discovered that three factors drove emigration from China, with each factor accounting for 20% of the responses.People moved because they wanted better options for their children's education; they were distressed(痛苦的) about the growing pollution problems plaguing(烦扰) China's cities; and they were concerned about food safety in the country, which in the latest scare involved tainted dog treats."Again and again, when talking to people on an individual basis, those are the issues they raise," says Hoogewerf.Maybe most surprising, two-thirds of those emigrating, or considering doing so, are also considering giving up their Chinese nationality. As I wrote in March, just as Beijing was coming out of the throes of a smoggy winter, those who can avoid China's pollution and food scares are doing so. It's troublesome for the Chinese government because experts conclude that big improvements to the air remain at least a decade away, not to say anything about China's food safety or its education system. The Hurun survey produced other interesting results. As a percentage of their total wealth, rich Chinese invest on average 16% abroad. The most popular investment choice is real estate and the U.S. is the overwhelming favorite destination. Los Angeles ranks as the most popular city to buy real estate, followed by San Francisco and New York. Vancouver ranked as the third most popular city. Detached villas were the preferred type of housing, followed by apartments and townhouses. Those surveyed all had assets worth more than $1 million and on average were worth $ 7 million. The top destinations for rich emigrating from China are as follows:The wealthiest citizens in any country are the most mobile, so the flight of wealthy Chinese isn't in itself a surprise. But unlike rich Americans fleeing their home country to avoid taxes, the Chinese are leaving because of basic desires—clean air, clean food, good schools. If China's government doesn't improve these, the flight of China's wealthiest residents won't stop.1. How many people investigated want to emigrate for their children's education?A.24.B.25.C.94.D.28.2. Which are the reasons why rich Chinese in the survey emigrate?①For their children's education. ②For the growing pollution problems.③For food safety. ④ For tainted dog treats.⑤For China's political crackdowns. ⑥ For more money.A. ①②③④B. ③④⑤⑥C. ①②④⑤D.①②⑤⑥3. I had a smile on my face as I sang along to the songs on the radio. It was a beautiful day that I felt full of happiness. My good mood ended, however, when the radio station took a news break between songs. Then suddenly I found myself listening to yet another story of a rich famous man who had bro-ken the law. I shook my head as I came to a red traffic light. As I pulled to a stop I noticed four leather' jacketed bikers, They were standing in the middle of the road with two on either side of the light. They looked rough and dangerous, but as I got closer I noticed each one was holding their helmet in their hands. I rolled down my window as one approached my car. "We are the Brothers of the Wheel," he said. "We are collecting money for a Christmas Toy Drive for needy children. " As I pulled a dollar out of my wallet I looked past his beard and tattoos and into his eyes. They shined with a goodness and kindness that came right from his soul. I dropped the money in his helmet and waved to the other bikers as I drove off. My good mood had returned. My faith in mankind had been bolstered. And I had to remember again never to judge people by their appearance. Our society often judges books by their covers but God reads what is written in our hearts and souls. I used to like them to be honest. We'd have lunch, talk on the phone or exchange emails, and they all seemed normal enough. But then came Facebook, and I was introduced to a sad fact: many of my friends have dark sides that they had kept from me.Today my friends show off the more unpleasant aspects of their personalities via Facebook. No longer hidden, they're thrown in my face like TV commercials--unavoidable and endless advertisements for the worst of their personalities.Take Fred. If you were to have lunch with him, you'd find him warm, and self-effacing(谦逊的).Read his Facebook and you'll realize he's an unbearable, food obsessed boring man. He'd pause to have a cup of coffee on his way to save a drowning man and then write about it.Take Andy. You won't find a smarter CEO anywhere, but now he's a CEO without a company to run. And then comes Chris who likes to post at least 20 times a day on every website he canfind, so I get to read his thoughts twice, once on Facebook and once on Twitter. In real life, I don't see these sides of people. Face to face, my friends show me their best. They're nice, smart people. But face to Facebook , my friends are like a blind date which goes horribly wrong.I'm left with a dilemma. Everybody knows this, and nobody would think of questioning this fact. 16 When someone says he has a good memory, he means he keeps his memory in practice by exercising it regularly, either consciously or unconsciously. When someone else says his memory is poor, he means he does not give it enough opportunity to become strong.17 One of them exerciseshis arms and legs by playing tennis, while the other sits in a chair or a motor car all day.If a friend complains his arms are weak, we know it is his own fault. But if he tells us he has a poor memory, many of us think his parents are to blame, or that he is just unlucky. Few of us realize it is just as much his own fault as if it was his arms or legs that were weak. 18 But all of us can, if we have ordinary bodies and brains, improve our strength and our memory by the same means--practice.Have you ever noticed that people who cannot read or write usually have better memories than those who can? 19 Of course, because those who cannot read or write have to remember things. They cannot write them down in a little notebook and they have to remember dates, time and prices, names, songs and stories, so their memory is the whole time being exercised.20A. What do you think of it?B. Yet many people do not seem to know the memory works in the same way.C. Not all of us can become extremely strong or extremely clever.D. So if you want a good memory, practice remembering.E. Someone else says that he is poor in health.F. Why is this?G. The position is exactly the same as that of two people.第二部分:完形填空(共20小题,每小题1.5分,满分30分)Hope in my armsLast year I was invited to participate in a carnival for Tuesday's Child, an organization that helps children with AIDS.All the children that had 21 at one particular room could paint a square on a piece of cloth. And according to Caffe Vita, it is the story behind the coffee as much as the quality of the product that attracts customers.Deforestation to make way for rice farming, combined with over-hunting, was threatening the only tree-living kangaroo. Thus in consultation with communities of Yopno, Uruwa, and Som (YUS), Woodland Park Zoo helped create PNG’s first conservation area. This was a significant achievement given that 95%of PNG land is owned by local people and the 15,000-strong population of the YUS region was geographically separated. Out of these strictures arose the opportunity to make use of existing skill sets in agriculture for communities to develop in harmony with national policy.Setting aside land to grow high value coffee was so appealing that some people walked for two days to participate in the consultation meetings.Karau Kuna from the Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program (TKCP) explained“in reality, all the planning was done by the people; we the facilitators just introduced the concept and provided the technical support” .But going beyond coffee growing was key to the project’s longevity. Community members also learned about processing and will eventually take on marketing the product to new and existing buyers. As with any new project there are challenges, but Lisa Dabek, Director of the TKCP, is confident. She explains“the coffee project continues to grow and strengthen despite the challenge of transport in this remote region.SOS (Save Our Species) funding has allowed us to provide further technical assistance for the coffee project while it is still at a critical stage” . 4.For what reason do the buyers purchase the PNG coffee?A.Its rarity.B.Its cheap price.C.Its convenience.D.Its ecological background.5.What does the underlined word“strictures”in Paragraph 4 mean?A.Advantages.B.Restrictions.C.Disagreements.D.Flexibilities. 6.What is local people’s attitude toward the coffee project?A.Unclear.B.Dismissive.C.Approving.D.Doubtful. 7.What can we infer about the coffee project from the last paragraph?A.It is in urgent need of funding.B.It is progressing despite difficulties.C.It has achieved the expected victory.D.It has improved local transportation.Picture this: you are running late to drop your kids off at school in the morning. On top of this, it is pouring rain outside. While you are driving down the highway, another car cuts you off. You begin to think they must be a rude person who is also a terrible driver. A couple of minutes later, you, yourself accidentally cut off someone. You inform yourself your action is a result of the fact that you are late for your child’s drop-off and you cannot see well because of the rain. Why is it that we automatically assume others’ negative actions are a result of who they are as a person while giving ourselves excuses? The actor-observer bias (偏差) is an explanation for this confusing phenomenon. When you explain someone’s behavior based on internal factors, like assuming the person who cuts you off is a rude person, but attributing (把……归因于) your own behavior to external situational factors, you are engaging in the actor-observer bias.So why does the actor-observer effect occur? The general explanation is that it occurs as a defense mechanism for maintaining high personal dignity. We would rather believe that our faults come from factors we cannot control because then we cannot change them and it is easier for us to accept the outcome. The actor-observer bias is the cause of many arguments between the actor and the observer as a result of a misunderstanding of the effect of external and internal factors. How can we stop thinking this way and become more sympathetic to the people around us? This is where it gets tricky because the observer’s internal attributions are an automatic process which means they occur almost immediately and unconsciously (无意识地).In order to become more sympathetic towards surrounding people in situations, we must make the attributions a controlled process. A controlled process is when the observer purposely focuses attention on something and is consciously aware of the process, unlike an automatic process. Knowing what the actor-observer effect is and how it can influence your own attributions is a good step toward becoming more sympathetic and kinder to people you interact with. 8.How would we define the other driver’s behavior in Paragraph 1?A.An emotional outburst.B.A display of bad manners.C.A moment of carelessness.D.An unavoidable circumstance.9.Why do we fall for the actor-observer bias?A.To safeguard our self-image.B.To avoid arguments with others.C.To promote sympathy towards others.D.To ensure fairness in interpersonal interactions.10.How might an observer be more considerate to an actor’s actions?A.By focusing on the situational factors.B.By making the attribution process automatic.C.By attributing these actions to internal factors.D.By imagining themselves in the same situations.11.What is the best title for the text?A.Why we repeat our mistakesB.How we can stop blaming othersC.What is the science of social justiceD.Why we always ignore our own faultsSolar power is helping bring about a future of cleaner energy, but there are limits to where rigid solar panels (刚性太阳能电池板)can go. A new kind of solar cell made with a mineral called perovskite (钙钛矿)can go almost anywhere, says physicist Olga Malinkiewicz. We can use perovskite cells on the surfaces of the building, on the roofs of the buildings, on the roofs of the cars and on the electronic devices. We can use it on the sails. We can use it in the balls, tents and unlimited applications. Malinkiewicz says perovskite has become a favorite among solar panel researchers. Because it can be printed, everyone can use it on every surface.Malinkiewicz developed a way to print perovskite panels like an inkjet printer. She co-founded a company to produce them, called Soleil Technologies, after the Baltic sun goddess. Construction company Skanska is testing the panels at their Warsaw headquarters. Adam Targowski is sustainable (可持续的)development manager for Skanska. They work perfectly, even when they are not well exposed to sunlight. So we can use them in all surfaces of the building. Soleil calculates that about one square meter of panel can supply a day’s worth of power for one worker’s computer and lights. And they keep getting better as research continues, says the company’s scientific director Konrad Wojciechowski. For other technologies, it took decades to really enter markets. Perovskite has been around only for few years in scientific research, so there is still a lot to be done, but potential is basically pretty much unlimited, I think. There are still durability and other problems to work out, but several companies expect to have perovskite panels on the market this year.12.What do we know about perovskite solar cell from the first paragraph?A.It’s delicate.B.It’s complex.C.It’s flexible.D.It’s expensive. 13.What does the underlined word “they” in the second paragraph refer to?A.Skanska and Adam Targowski.B.Malinkiewicz and Skanska.C.Soleil Technologies.D.Perovskite panels.14.What can we infer from the last paragraph?A.It needs years to put perovskite panels into markets.B.Scientists think perovskite panels are ready for markets.C.Perovskite has been studied for decades.D.Perovskite panels will soon be seen in the market.15.What is the main purpose of the passage?A.To explain how to use perovskite panels.B.To introduce perovskite panels.C.To advertise a new solar power cell.D.To propose scientists to further study perovskiet cells.Attitudes toward small talk can vary, but there are a few reasons why some people may dislike small talk.16 People who value deep connections may find small talk insufficient for building meaningful relationships. But it needn’t be. If the goal is to use small talk to deepen connections with others, consider the kind of information you are sharing. Communication research differentiates three levels of conversation: factual, personal, and relational. At the most superficial level of conversation, we share facts. We talk about things and their place in time and space, exchange news and facts, and report on our experiences factually and objectively (e.g., “It was warm outside today.” “I work as a computer analyst.”). Almost all these are factual information. 17The next is the personal level, where we talk about how we feel about the content at the informational level. (e.g., “I loved the warm weather today.” “ 18 ”). The personal level is defined by sharing emotions about something or someone beyond the current time and space. Sharing from the personal level invites the other person to connect with you at this deeper level.19 Think: What’s happening now? How am I feeling at this moment? How do you feel being here with me? When we bring our attention to the present moment, we often experience greater engagement and connection with others. 20 This brings our attention to the many aspects of our present-moment experience and lets another person into our inner world. You can get a sense of how the experience of intimate (亲密的) connection with another deepens as we move through the levels.A.I just came from London.B.I find my work rewarding.C.It has nothing to do with oversharing.D.It can be quite useful, but it lacks emotional content.E.Small talk is often seen as shallow and lacking depth.F.One way we can do this is to start sentences with “I notice...”.G.The relational level involves sharing in the present moment and space.二、完形填空When I was young, my family had one of the first telephones in our neighborhood. We think Haroshi is super cool—he makes sculptures(雕塑) from skateboards.Haroshi is in his late 30s. He’s a skatebo arder but he also makes things from wood. He began skateboarding when he was 15 years old and he loved it. He used to skate every day. Now, if you know anything about skateboarding, you’ll know that skateboards don’t last forever because they break. But Ha roshi didn’t throw his out because he was fond of them. Over time he built up a big collection and at the same time he learnt about all the different types of skateboard. Surprisingly, not all skateboards are of the same shape and actually they are often built in different ways. By the time he was 25, he had an enormous collection of old skateboards. He decided he had to do something with them so he started to cut them up. As he was doing that, he noticed some interesting patterns in the wood. He then cut more and stuck them on top of each other. The first thing he created from the wood was a piece of jewelry. He created something new from something old.Nowadays, however, he is known for his extremely large 3D wooden sculptures. His ideas generally come from skateboarding culture, ranging from skateboarding cats to cool trainers, but also everyday topics such as hurting yourself, getting better, being crazy about something and of course, growing up. All skateboarders will understand these. Haroshi has made over 40 pieces and each piece takes a very long time. There is no doubt that he is very talented but he’s had no formal art training. He taught himself.Haroshi held an exhibition in London last month and three of us from @teenattack went along. As we entered the first room, we saw a huge bird that covered one wall. It was absolutely enormous! There was also a sculpture called Ordinary life. It looked like a broken leg—a very common problem, of course. It’s incredible to think that these sculptures are all m ade from broken skateboards. But there’s something else that is really interesting about Haroshi’s work.In the twelfth century a sculptor called Unkei placed a glass ball in each of his works to show the heart of the piece. Haroshi also places something inside his sculptures—a piece of broken skateboard. In this way, he gives his sculptures life. We think that is just awesome!1.What does Paragraph 2 want to tell us?A.Skateboards are built differently.B.Skateboards need to be improved.C.Haroshi collects broken skateboards.D.Haroshi is an excellent skateboarder.2.What does Haroshi do with old skateboards?A.He sells them.B.He repairs them.C.He gives them away.D.He makes artworks out of them.3.From the last 2 paragraphs, we can know_____________.A.Ordinary life looks like a birdB.Haroshi’s ideas come from textbooksC.Haroshi has never attended art schoolD.Haroshi puts glass balls inside his works4.What can be learnt from the passage?A.It’s never too old to learn.B.Rome is not built in one day.C.Failure is the mother of success.D.Creativity makes a big difference.3.As global temperatures rise, trees around the world are experiencing longer growing seasons, sometimes as much as three extra weeks a year. All that time helps trees grow faster. For the past 100 years, trees have been experiencing fast growth in temperate regions from Maryland to Finland, to Central Europe, where the growth rate of some trees has even sped up nearly 77% since 1870. Assuming wood is just as strong today, those gains would mean more timber(木材) for building, burning, and storing carbon captured from the atmosphere. But is wood really as dense as it used to be?Hans Pretzsch, a forest scientist at the Technical University of Munich in Germany, and his colleagues wanted to find an answer. They carried out a study of the forests of Central Europe. They started with 41 experimental plots in southern Germany, some of which have been continuously monitored since 1870. Pretzsch and his team took core samples from the trees—which included Norway spruce, sessile oak, European beech, and Scots pine—and analyzed the tree rings using a high-frequency probe. They found that in all four species, wood density has decreased by 8% to 12%, they report online in Forest Ecology and Management. “We expected a trend of the wood density like this, butnot such a strong and significant decrease,” Pretzsch says. Increasing temperatures, and the faster growth they spur, probably account for some of the drop. Another factor, Pretzsch says, is more nitrogen in the soil from agricultural fertilizer(化肥) and vehicle exhaust. Previous studies have linked increased fertilizer use to decreased wood density. Above all, the study suggests that the higher temperatures—combined with pollution from auto exhaust and farms—are making wood weaker, resulting in trees that break more easily and wood that is less durable.“I am getting worried,” says Richard Houghton, an ecologist at the Woods Hole Research Center in Falmouth, Massachusetts, who was not part of the new study. As the density of the samples dropped, so did their carbon content, by about 50%. That means forests may suffer more damage from storms and may be less efficient at soaking up the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2) than scientists had thought, Houghton says.1.Paragraph 1 is written to_____________.A.prove an ideaB.introduce a topicC.give an exampleD.describe a fact2.The study of the forests shows_____________.A.farming slows trees’ growthB.more areas are covered with forestsC.warming changes the quality of woodD.pollution leads to higher temperatures3.What Houghton says suggests_____________.A.great loss might be causedB.storm damage can be preventedC.the size of forests might be increasedD.less greenhouse gases can be sent out4.What is the best title for the passage?A.We only have one earthB.Trees—our best friendsC.The influence of climate changeD.Trees are getting bigger, but weaker4.The month of March was a milestone for supporters of renewable energy in the U.S. For the first time, wind and solar power accounted for more than 10% of the country’s electricity—up from less than 1% at the turn of the century. And total wind and solar power-plant capacity(发电量) is expected to grow more than 30% over the course of this year and next, according to the Energy Information Administration.Such forecasts have led many scientists and policymakers to think that moving a large part of the nation’s power supply to renewable sources—as cities from Miami Beach to Salt Lake Cityhave promised to do—may not be as far-fetched as once thought. But like any debate, there are dissenters, including those inside the federal government. Their argument is that the nation demands an uninterrupted supply of electricity and cannot count on sun, wind and natural gas to provide it. “You need solid hydrocarbons(固体碳氢化合物) on-site for rising peak demand,” Environmental Protection Agency administrator Scott Pruitt said on Fox Business in May, referring to the importance of coal as a power source. Many experts say the government’s concern fails to account for how the power grid(电网) has improved in recent decades. Utility companies(公共事业公司)have developed innovative ways to move electricity from place to place to account for variation in weather. Battery technology can store power for use when renewable sources cannot operate, meaning solar power can be used on days when the sun doesn’t shine. And the nation’s vast supply of natural gas can be turned into usable energy with the flick of a switch.“I don’t think 5 or 10 years ago I’d be comfortable telling you we could not sacrifice reliability when we’re going to have 35% of our energy come from wind,” said Ben Fowke, CEO of the utility company Xcel Energy, at a recent conference. “I’m telling you, I’m very comfortable with that today.”Indeed, many parts of the country are already close to that reality. In some regions, like Iowa and Kansas, renewable energy supplies more than 25% of the electricity. The market has shifted so far in favor of natural gas and renewable energy that even the most concerted federal effort is unlikely to stop its growth. Any attempt to slow the growth of wind and solar will face strong pushback. “If anyone wants to do away with it,” Republican Senator Chuck Grassley told Yahoo News of the federal government’s potential cuts to wind energy, “he’ll do it over my dead body.”But the federal government could slow the acceleration—and with billions of dollars in private and public investments at risk, the pace of change matters. Decisions made today will shape the future of the nation’s energy grid for decades to come.1.As for renewable energy, what is the federal government’s concern?A.The power-plant capacity.B.The financial cost of using power.C.The reliability of the power supply.D.The eco-friendliness of power plants.2.Which of the following is the improvement of the power grid?A.Solar energy has replaced coal power.B.The supply of natural gas has increased.C.Batteries can be used to transport energy.D.Electricity can be moved in better ways.3.What is Paragraph 4 written to show?A.It is wrong to give up the reliability.B.Green energy can be depended on now.C.The main renewable energy comes from wind.ing green energy makes people comfortable.4.What is the author’s attitude to America’s green power boom?A.Supportive.B.Neutral.C.Disapproving.D.Doubtful.5.假设你是红星中学高三学生李华,请根据以下四幅图的先后顺序,写一篇英文周记,记录你班同学上周参加学校组织的“南海子公园观鸟活动”的全过程。

第一部分阅读理解 (共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题两分,满分30分)AThis was the fourth time this year that Lin was the new kid in school. Four moves in seven months, all because her mother’s job kept them moving. She had decided back in December that making new friends was a waste of time. She would join no more clubs. She would add no new names to her phone list.On her first day, the teacher Mrs. Leonard welcomed her to the class and let one of her classmates help her find her way around. This time, it was a girl named Marley or Carly, or something. Lin had stopped paying attention to kids’ names.Lin knew that she would forget them all, just as the other kids from all those other schools had probably forgotten her. As Mrs. Leonard was giving Lin textbooks, Lin made her decision: at this school, she would be memorable. The next day, Tuesday, instead of wearing the usual jeans and T-shirt, she wore a Halloween costume. She didn't brush her hair. On Wednesday, she wore an old dress of her mother's, along with a pair of football boots. “At least they’ll remember me after we’ve moved away”. She thought on Thursday as she put on a skirt, a T-shirt, and a pile of long necklaces her grandmother had given her to play with.On Friday, Mrs. Leonard called her mother to school. She was a bit worried about what her mom would say when she saw her clothes — a hula skirt(草裙) from a vacation in Hawaii worn on top of a pair of shabby jeans. From inside the principal's office, she heard her mother and Mrs. Leonard talking.“She'll be so excited,” her mother said to Mrs. Leonard in the hallway. “We moved so often in the last seven months, but this time we are here to stay. I’ve got a new job in town. Finally, she'll be able to fit in.”1. Why didn’t Lin care about her classmates’ names?A. She disliked them.B. She might leave them soon.C. She had a poor memory for names.D. She thoug ht little of people’s names.2. At the new school, Lin decided to ________.A. learn from Mrs. LeonardB. play tricks on her teacherC. impress people at the schoolD. make good use of the textbooks3. Why was Lin’s mother called to school?A. Because Lin failed an exam.B. Because Lin hurt Mrs. Leonard.C. Because Lin wore unusual clothes.D. Because Lin had no Halloween costumes.4. These reforms included allowing foreign banks to offer credit cards to Chinese citizens. Now, researchers at the University of Missouri (MU)have found about 30 percent of Chinese urban households now own at least one credit card and the growth rate of credit card adoption has been an average of 40 percent per year between 2009 and 2015.Rui Yao, an assistant professor of personal financial planning at MU, says that this large growth in such a small amount of time has positive and negative implications for the Chinese economy.“With more and more people taking advantage of credit cards in China, it certainly increases potential consumer buyi ng power,” Yao said. “However, we found that more than 90 percent of non-credit card users were unaware of safety issues existing in credit card use and more than 60 percent had little knowledge of the consequences of credit card debt. Thus lack of knowledge could create problems as credit card ownership is expected to grow at a rate of 11 percent a year.”Yao found that while 72 percent of Chinese credit card holders were never late on their payments, only 55 percent were able to pay the full balance. She also found that 70 percent of Chinese credit card holders said that credit cards contributed to overspending.Yao believes the Chinese could benefit from financial education designed to help them plan for their financial future and encouraging the Chinese to take advantage of debt in a responsible fashion is important for the Chinese economy. “Appropriate use of debt can help households improve their quality of life as well as spur economic growth through an increase in market purchases.” Yao said.5.Why did China allow foreign banks to offer credit cards to Chinese citizens?A.To improve competitiveness in the international market.B.To respond to the urgent demand for financial reforms.C.To increase Chinese citizens' confidence in economy.D.To persuade more Chinese citizens to accept credit cards.6.What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 3?A.The potential market purchases in the future.B.Weaknesses caused by lack of credit risks.C.The rapid growth in credit card ownership.D.Advantages and disadvantages of using credit.7.A lot of figures are used in the text in order to ________ .A.record the valuable dataB.provide concrete evidenceC.introduce a research methodD.give a detailed description8.It can be inferred from the text that ________ .A.some Chinese citizens lack knowledge of credit risksB.education is the only solution to future financial issuesC.overspending is mainly brought about by credit cardsD.most Chinese credit card holders can't pay the balanceCStudies show farmland in Africa is often lacking in important nutrients. But researchers say a combination of farming methods may help.Researchers wonder how to increase production without necessarily clearing more land to grow additional crops. American researchers say that can happen with greater use of an agricultural system called perenniation. It mixes crops with trees and perennial plants — those that return year after year. Soil scientist John Reganold says, “One of the major problems is that the soils are fairly poor in mos t of the regions. So how do you grow food on poor soils? There have to be food production systems that can build the soil and improve the yield.”Mr.Reganold says poor soil may have resulted from years of weathering that washed away many nutrients. He says some farmers may have done more harm than good.“They have been actually using farming practices where they’re not putting in organic matter. They are not putting in fertilizers. They can’t afford those things. And it just runs the soil down. So they’rew orsening the situation.”The scientists says the word perenniation defines three systems that are already used in Africa. The oldest of the three is called evergreen agriculture. This is where farmers plant trees with their crops. Farmers in Africa have been doing this for sixty years, but it seems to be growing in popularity. The method is gaining widespread use in countries such as Niger, Burkina Faso, Malawi and Zambia. The trees are planted among maize, millet or sorghum crops. They not only add nitrogen(氮) to the soil through their roots, but also through their leaves when they fall off and break down. At other times of the year, the trees can protect plants from strong sunlight.John Reganold says he knows of one woman who has had great success with perenniation.“She’s a grandmother in her fifties. Her name is Rhoda Mang’yana and started using this system about twenty years ago. And her yield initially were about a ton of maize. Now with a good year she gets four tons per hectare, four times what she w as getting.”9. In fact, the suit is made out of over 300 plastic grocery bags.Ferrigno, who once worked as a tailor before starting a family, got the idea for her unique hand-made suit last August. She was at a family picnic and saw one of the other guests carrying a purse made from re-purposed plastic bags. It attracted her, so she and her daughter searched for instructions on how to make one on YouTube. The 75- year-old ended up making a purse from colorful plastic bags. But that was only the beginning. After finishing her second plastic bag purse,Ferrigno realized she needed something to match it with,so last November she told her daughter she was going to make a skirt and jacket suit out of plastic bags,as a winter project. Rosa started by cutting up the plastic bags into strips(条)and then tying them together to make longer, yam- like strips that could be knitted. But to knit the plastic yam, she needed large needles that didn’ t exist on the market, so she made them on her own.The suit took Rosa two months to complete. The jacket was made out of 170 plastic bags, and the skirt required another 140. Although she didn’ t even use a pattern when knitting the impressive suit, it ended up fitting her perfectly, and when she finally showed it off at the supermarket earlier this month, everyone went crazy.“We love it when our customers reuse or recycle grocery bags, but never have we seen a work of art like Rosa 's! Many believe it not only represents the rise of the country as a tech power, but also shows respect to classical Chinese culture by naming the system "Hongmeng " in Chinese."Hongmeng" is a classical word from Zhuangzi. In the ancient times of Chinese legend and myths (神话),“Hongmeng" was used to describe the original state of the universe before matter existed. For HarmonyOS, "Hongmeng" indicates the developers’aim to make an innovative operating system, unlike any other.Besides "Hongmeng'", Hunwei has also registered many of its products under the names of legendary creatures from Chinese myths. For example, the company's Kirin mobile chip got its name after a lucky monster called "Qilin".
