PISA is conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) every three years, and assesses the performance of 15-year-olds mainly in reading, maths and science. In England, the Government has prioritized(优先)climbing up the league tables in recent years. The latest tests were carried out last year, and showed that England was ranked 17 in the table for maths, up from 26 in 2015. Pupils in England also outperformed the OECD average in reading and science. On student well-being, 53 percent of 15-year-olds across the UK reported that they are satisfied with their lives—well below the 67 percent average across the OECD.Taking the UK as a whole, while there was only a statistically significant improvement in maths, the country still improved its position relative to other countries across all three of the subjects tested by PISA.In reading, the UK was 14th, up from 22nd three years ago. In science the UK was 14th, up from 15th, and in maths the UK roseto 18th from 27th.Across the rest of the league tables, East Asian countries like China and Singapore continued to be far superior. Today’s results also showed that Estonia outperformed all the major European economies. However, Geoff Barton, the general secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders, cautionedagainst concluding too much from the findings. There are many educational and non-educational factors which affect performance and it is not easy to find how these have impacted on youn g people’s attainment in a set of tests. What is worrying, however, is that this analysis shows that fewer students in the UK are satisfied with their lives than the OECD average. It is clear that many young people feel under great pressure in a society in which the risks often seem very high to them in terms of achieving their goals.12.Which aspect of England is under the average of the OECD?A.Reading. B.Science.C.Well-being. D.Maths.13.Which statement agrees with the UK’ performance in PISA?A.The UK did worse than before.B.The UK progressed a little in PISA.C.The UK hasn’t made any improvement.D.The UK pulled well ahead of the rest countries.14.Which of the following countries always holds a leading position in PISA?A.China. B.Estonia. C.The UK. D.England.15.What do the Geoff Barton’s words mean in the last paragraph?A.The PISA results are unbelievable for educators.B.Students in the UK are in need of more practice.C.Education quality can’t be fully reflected only by PISA.D.Young people take more risks of achieving their goals.8.(2020届河南省焦作市高三三模)Just like essays, all speeches have three main sections: the introduction, the body, and the conclusion. 16.You need to write a speech in a way that keeps the attention of an audience and helps paint a mental image at the same time. Whatever type of speech you decide to write, find ways to make your words memorable. The structure of how to write your speech is just the start. 17.Start by paying attention to your audience and their interests. Write the words you’ll speak with passion and enthusiasm, which you also want your listeners to share. When writing your attention-grabbing statements, make sure you are writing what will get their attention, not just yours.18.Read famous speeches and look at the way they are constructed. Find things that stand out and figure out what makes it interesting. Oftentimes, speechwriters use rhetorical devices(修辞法)to make certain points easy to remember.Remember to begin and end your speech with something that will gain and hold the attention of your audience. If you spend too much time getting into your speech, people will zone out or start checking their phones. 19.20.When you give the speech, think about the tone you should use, and be sure to write the speech in the same flow that you’d use in conversations. A great way to check this flow is to practice reading it out loud. If you stumble(磕磕巴巴)while reading or it feels dull, look for ways to jazz up(使活泼)the words and improve the flow.A.You’ll also need to writ e the speech skillfully.B.How you deliver the speech is also important.C.You can gain inspiration from others’ speeches.D.Instead, if interested, they may stick with you until the end.E.So the essay form can offer a good foundation for the process.F.However, unlike essays, speeches are not to be read but to be heard.G.In other words, your speech should contain some color, drama, or humor.9.(2020届河南省六市第一次模拟)Christmas is coming early this year for “Downton Abbey”《唐顿庄园》fans. The Darwin Awards website, which documents deaths which are foolhardy, urged people to log on to Internet broadcasts of the attempt. “Keep your eye s peeled for a live Darwin Award,” it said. However, the only body to make the news was the corpse (尸体) of an unknown mountaineer which Kamicar zipped past as he descended, one of an estimated 120 corpses, thought to litter the slopes.“This mountain is always full of surprises. Seeing a dead man out there was a really shocking experience,” he said. Thanks to strategically placed cameras on the mountain and one attached to his safety helmet, hundreds of thousands of people witnessed his descent on the Internet, which was one of the record highs ever. During the run more than 650,000 hits were registered on his expedition website jamming it for a time as others tried to access the site.Weather conditions were so severe that Kamicar had to abandon plans to rest on the summit before attempting to descend. Instead, suffering from fatigue, as soon as he reached the top he put on his skis and flung himself back down the mountain.Dealing with the mountain had already cost Kamicar two fingers when a previous failed attempt saw him get frostbite as a fierce storm lashed the peak.Kamicar comes from a skiing family and took part in his first Himalayan skiing expedition in 1989. Since then, he has been tireless in raising funds and sponsorship for more expeditions, with Everest as the permanent goal.32.Davo Kamicar made history by ________.A.skiing down Mount Everest without restB.descending Mount Everest within the shortest time everC.attracting largest number of audience online for his descentD.becoming the first to film his descent down Mount Everest33.The underlined word foolhardy in the passage is closest in meaning to ______.A.sudden and hard to accept B.taking unnecessary risksC.attracting public attention D.working hard to fool others34.According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE?A.Kamicar saw about 120 dead bodies littering the slope.B.The broadcast of his descent online was cancelled because of the website jam.C.Kamicar’s family had a tradition to conquer Mount Everest.D.This was not Kamicar’s first attempt on Mount Everest.35.Which of the following may be the best title for the passage?A.Mad man skis down Everest B.Darwin Award for Davo KamicarC.Extreme sports hero slides to a record D.Body of mountaineer found on Everest11.(2020届湖南省怀化市高三第一次模拟)Many people travel to enjoy and enrich themselves. As poet Jalaluddin said,“Travel brings power and love back to your life.”However, their travel methods may be different every year. Lonely planet listed three top trends of 2019. L et’s take a look.Solo travelTraditionally, travel seems to be a group activity to have fun together and avoid loneliness. But that changed in 2019. Traveling on your own means that you are the boss of everything, choosing wherever you want to go. For some people, it also shows a better, more confident person, ready to solve anything. Traveling alone in a totally foreign land can be challenging. “It opens up your mind to new things and pushes you out of your comfort zone,” Said Kristina, a traveler from the US.Augmented(增广的) attractionsWorld travel can be expensive. But virtual reality and augmented reality, or VR and AR, are giving more possibilities to “travel” for little cost. With ever-improving headsets, smart-phones and Wi-Fi connections, technologies have changed the way we travel, bringing the 360-degree experience of museums, theme parks and historical sites to our homes. In 2019, NASA provided a VR experience of Mars, allowing people to “walk” its surface with just a headset. Paris’ famous museum s, meanwhile, provided more applications with AR technology. This gives visitors more context and information about exhibits. With that, visitors can view a sea cow growing flesh before their eyes. These trends will help you beat the crowds and experience new kinds of travel.Getting off the beaten pathIn order to avoid the crowds, many liked to visit less famous places after searching online or following local agencies in 2019. With less transportation and fewer things to do, hitting upon small towns lets people slow down and notice the little things. Take a walk, ride a bike, drink coffee, take a deep breath and explore.1.The author’s main purpose of writing this passage is .A.to introduce the travel trends of 2019 B.to encourage more people to travelC.to recommend travel hot spots D.to explain what makes a good trip2.Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage?A.Solo travelers are free to make their own decisions.B.Travelling alone benefits people a lot.C.NASA provided a real experience to Mars for people.D.VR and AR make it cheaper for people to “travel”.3.What can we infer from the last paragraph?A.Famous places are still popular with many travelers.B.Many people begin to explore new ways of travelling.C.Many people like to search for places online.D.Less transportation of small towns causes inconvenience.12.(2020届湖南省怀化市高三第一次模拟)You probably have not heard of Lu Zikuan, but recently the 11-year-old boy deeply touched Chinese netizens。
