In the last period, we learnt two important medicines.
What are they? What are their effects?
Step2. Language points
1.open up 打开;开发;开始
Eg. They opened the country up to trade 他们开放国家,以进行贸易。

keep one’s eyes open 留心;
2. thin v. : to make sth thinner
Eg. It is reported that aspirin can thin blood and help reduce the risk of heart attacks
War and disease are the two main causes of thinning population.
Add more water to the mixture to thin it.
3. purify v. : to make sth pure or clean
pure (adj) 清洁的,纯净的 pure water 纯净水
eg. Stopping pollution surely helps purify the air in the city
4. note v. : 注意到;写下来
Eg. You’d better note the time of reading each paragraph so that you can improve your reading ability.

15. It is + a period of time +before-clause
Eg. It will be a long time before we meet again.(还要….. 才)
It was ten years before they paid off their debt.(过了多久….就)
It is not+a period of time +before+clause(不久…就)
Eg. It was not long befor the fire was put out.
It won’t be long before we have the exam.
16.recommend v. 推荐;介绍
用法】作“建议”时,后接动名词、名词、从句或复合结构。
[注意] 接that从句时用虚拟语气(should)do。
recommend sth. to sb. recommend doing sth recommend that sb (should) do sth Eg. I am going to spend my holiday. Could you recommend a hotel in that city to me?

21. 强调not until 结构时,将此结构放于It be…that句型中,that后接肯定式
Eg.It was not until yesterday that I realized what trouble he was in.
