Cooperation is more important than competition
When my eyes caught this topic, my mind began its search for, which is more important , or cooperation? I think everyone has his own idea about this question. Then my choice
–cooperation – occurred to me. Why does cooperation count so much? How does it set itself off from competition which is of relatively less but absolutely immense important?
Before answering this question, I want to remind you of a story of ancient China. It is about three monks. The first monk lived alone in a temple far away from the river which was his only water source. He shouldered water for himself every day. Later came the second monk and then they shared a pole to carry water together. Soon a third monk joined them. Curiously: the participation of one more person brought them thirst instead of mort water. Since the pole could not be shared by three men, each insisted that the other two should go to take water. Consequently none could drink. This story simply proves the importance of teamwork: united, we succeed; divided, we fail. The conventional wisdom holds true for our situation.
First, cooperation enables us to fit in at work more smoothly. With the rapid technological specialization and social development, more and more tasks need to be accomplished with a collaborative effort. So, in the present-day society, we are more likely to succeed by first working well with colleagues in a group. If a group is like a machine composed of many a part, cooperation is just the grease which ensures its good running. Armed with it, we can closely cooperate with others and better fulfill our duty.
Second, teamwork spirit maximizes individual value. However sweet a drip of dew is, it cannot stop your thirst; however luminous a firebug is, it cannot light your way; however powerful a finger is, it cannot give a punch. But if combined with its kind, each can achieve beyond itself. Just as the saying goes, many straws may bind an elephant left alone, a straw is still a straw, to be trampled on. All these tell us that union is strength. Therefore, cooperation can power into an individual and help him realize his potential to the utmost extent.
Of course, competition is also vital for us to have a successful future, but it has to come after cooperation, for it shines brightly with cooperation and it dims without cooperation.。
