But some dogs happily perform very demanding jobs for much of their life, putting in a full day’s work just like the rest of us. Guide dogs, one of the most familiar sorts of working dog, provide an invaluable service to humans. Every day, they help their masters get from place to place more safely. What Guide Dogs DoGuide dogs help blind or visually impaired people get around in the world. In most countries, they are allowed to anyplace where the public is allowed, so they can help their handlers be in any place they might want to go to. To do this, a guide dog must know how to:·Keep on a direct route, ignoring distractions such as smells, other animals and people·Maintain a steady pace, to the left and just ahead of the handler·Stop at all curbs until told to proceed·Turn left and right, move forward and stop on command·Recognize and avoid obstacles that the handler won’t be able to fit through (narrow passages and low overheads) ·Stop at the bottom and top of stairs until told to proceed·Bring the handler to elevator buttons·Lie quietly when the handler is sitting down·Help the handler to board and move around buses, subways and other forms of public Vehicles·Obey a number of verbal commandsAdditionally, a guide dog must know to disobey any command that would put the handler in danger. This ability, called selective disobedience, is perhaps the most amazing thing about guide dogs that they can balance obedience with their own assessment of the situation. This capacity is extremely important at crosswalks, where the handler and dog must work very closely together to navigate the situation safely. Dogs cannot distinguish the color of traffic lights, so the handler must make the decision of when it is safe to proceed across the road. The handler listens to the flow of traffic to figure out when the light has changed and then gives the command “forward”. If there is no danger, the dog proceeds across the road in a straight line. If there are cars approaching, the dog waits until the danger is gone and then follows the forward command. On the Job and After HoursGuide dogs enjoy their work immensely, and they get a lot of satisfaction from a job well done, but there is noroom for typical dog fun during the work day. Games, treats and praise cannot distract the dog from helping its handler navigate the course. Even when the handler doesn’t need assistance, a guide dog on the job is trained to ignore distractions and keep still. This is because a guide dog must be able to come to the handler’s workplace or be in public places without creating a disturbance. When you see a guide dog on the job, it is extremely important that you recognize that it is at work. Petting or talking to the dog breaks its concentration, which impairs the handler’s ability to get around in his or her surroundings. People are very impressed with guide dogs and so we have a natural inclination to praise them, but the best thing you can do to help a guide dog is to leave it alone so that it can pay attention to its surroundings and maintain its focus on its handler. Guiding is very complicated, and it requires a dog’s undivided attention. When a guide dog gets home at the end of the day, however, it will play and soak up praise just like an ordinary pet. Guide dogs make the distinction between work and play based on their lead harness: When the harness is on, they must stay completely focused; when it comes off, it’s play time. Guide dogs work very hard every day, but they lead extremely happy lives, full of lots of attention and stimulation. Dogs only end up working as guide dogs if they absolutely love the work. In fact, many handlers report that their dogs leap enthusiastically into the harness every morning!TrainingPeople often raise Golden Retrievers(猎犬),German shepherds or Labradors(拉布拉多猎狗) as candidates of guide dogs. Once a dog is grown up, socialized and well trained, it goes to the guide dog school for evaluation. In some schools, if a dog is suited for training but not quite ready, it may go back to the puppy(幼犬) raiser for a month or so to mature. If a dog is simply not suited for training, the school will work to place the dog in another line of work, such as tracking, or find it a permanent home, usually offering it to the puppy raiser first. At Guiding Eyes for the Blind, only the top 50 percent of the puppies will stay with the school. So the school places a little over 400 puppies with raisers each year, needing only 200 dogs for the training program. Of that 200,a small percentage will become breeding stock, for Guiding Eyes or another school, and the rest will be considered for the training program.Training is a rigorous process for both the instructors and the dogs, but it’s also a lot of fun. To make sure the dogs are up to the challenge, most schools test them extensively before beginning the training. The tests are designed to assess the dogs’ self-confidence level, since only extremely confident dogs will be able to deal with the pressure of guiding instruction. If a dog passes the tests, it begins the training program right away.Different schools have different programs, but typically, training will last four to five months. To make sure the dogs master all the complex guide skills, the instructors have to introduce them to each idea gradually. Once they have introduced what is expected of the dog, training is essentially a matter of rewarding correct performance and punishing incorrect performance. This works with dogs because they are pack animals and have a natural need to please an authority figure. The instructor, or later the handler, is simply stepping into the place of the alpha dog, the leader of the pack.Unlike ordinary obedience training, guide dog training does not use food as a reward for good performance. This is because a guide dog must be able to work around food without being distracted by it. Instead, instructors use praise or other reward systems to encourage correct performance. The standard means of correction is pulling on the dogs leash, so that it pulls a training collar, giving the dog a slight pinch(捏,掐).Using this basic reward/punishment system, instructors work through the necessary skills for guiding.Forming a TeamThe final stage of a guide dog’s training is learning to work with its new master. Guide dog training schools work very hard to match handlers with guide dogs according to the compatibility of their personalities. A very energetic dog typically does well with a young handler, while an older handler may need an especially careful partner. Schools often have a special gathering to commemorate the time when a new class of guide dogs finally meets their masters. Often, the dogs’puppy raiser attends and meets with the new master as well. This is perhaps the most emotional time in the entire training process. After this introduction, guide dog instructors typically spend a month helping the new team learn to worktogether. Many schools have dormitories for the handlers to stay in during this final stage of training. If the handler has never used a guide dog before, a lot of the instructors work at this point are actually people training, not dog training. The handler has to learn to read the dogs movements, so he or she knows when the dog is turning or when the dog is stopping for a crosswalk or stairs. Additionally, the handler has to learn all the commands the dog knows, and must get some practice walking with the dog. The dog has to make the transition from obeying the instructor to recognizing the handler as its new master. The handler and the dog spend a lot of this time just getting to know each other, so that they are comfortable enough to work as a team. By the time they graduate from the guide dog school, they can read each others every movement.1. Guided WritingWhether long-distance running should be cancelledRecently, many schools in cities such as Beijing and Wuhan have cancelled the women’s 3000-meter race and the men’s 5000-meter race at their sports meets due to students’poor physical condition. It aroused heated debate about young students’ health. Some students think that schools should not give up long-distance running because it can build up our bodies, keep us away from illness and relax our brain. We can learn better after exercise. More importantly, it helps develop a strong will and endurance. But others hold opposite opinions. They believe that long-distance running is not good for us. It makes us tired and excited so that we can’t calm down to study after exercise and we may get hurt in it. Besides, long-distance running is a big challenge to our physical conditions. For my part, it is unwise to call off long-distance races. So long as we are careful enough, the races can do us nothing but good.Tape ScriptsI. Listening ComprehensionSection ADirections:In section A, you will hear ten short conversations between two speakers. At the end of each conversation, a question will be asked about what was said. The conversations and the questions will be spoken only once. After you hear a conversation and the question about it, read the four possible answers on your paper, and decide which one is the best answer to the question you have heard.1. W:Could you give me a ride to the library?M:I’d like to, but I’m heading in the other direction.I’m meeting a friend.Q:What will the man probably do?2. W:You are late. What happened?M:My train usually takes 45 minutes but today it took me 15 minutes more to get to campus. Q:How long did it take the man to get to campus today?3. M:Would you tell me what time you start serving breakfast, please?W:At seven in the dining room, but you can get it earlier in your room, if you wish.Q:Where does the conversation probably take place?4. W:Shall I come back again?M:Well, you should feel better in two or three days. Come back and see me if you don’t feel any better after three days.Q:What’s the possible relationship between the two speakers?5. M:It’s a lovely day.I’m going for a walk.W:I’d join you if I didn’t have so much work to do, but I’ve got to finish it.Q:What does the woman imply?6. M:Was the exam very difficult?W:It was worse than difficult-it was absolutely impossible.Q:What does the woman mean?7. W:How does your daughter like her new school?M:Fine. She seems to have made new friends in no time.Q:What can be inferred about the man’s d aughter?8. W:Why did Jim lose his job?M:I didn’t say he had lost his job. All I said was that if he was as lazy as he used to be, he might find himself looking for a new job soon.Q:What conclusion can we draw from this conversation?9. W:Have you had a chance to wear your new shirt yet?M:That reminds me. I’ve been thinking of exchanging it for a larger size.Q:What does the man imply about the shirt?10. W:I thought Paul might be able to help me figure out the computer program.M:Paul is about the last person I’d ask if I were you.Q:What does the man imply about Paul?Section BDirections:In Section B, you will hear two short passages, and you will be asked three questions on each of the passages. The passages will be read twice, but the questions will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, read the four possible answers on your paper and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard.Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage. The next time you sit down to a delicious dinner, ask yourself, “How much food will I be able to eat?” If you think about only taking as much food as you can eat, it will help reduce waste. Every day, a large amount of food goes uneaten and ends up in the garbage. This is very sad considering that many people can’t even afford to have one meal every day. The problem of waste happens all over the world. People often feel the need to spend more than they can manage. The most important thing to remember is to be friendly to the environment. Only take as much food as you can eat, buy things in environmentally friendly packaging such as paper or cardboard, and leave garbage in its proper place. If every person could cut down on waste, even just a little, the overall effect would be great.Garbage and waste can be a big problem in large cities. If garbage or food is left in the streets, it can make the city dirty and may also lead to a bad smell in the streets. We all need to be responsible to clean up this problem and make the city more pleasant.Questions:11.What do people often feel the need to do?12.Where must we leave garbage?13.What need we all to be responsible to do?Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage. In early days no medical college took a woman student. Elizabeth Blackwell, was determined to become a doctor. The young American wrote again and again to a number of medical colleges, asking if she could be enrolled, but each time the answer was NO. Then one day, to her surprise, she got a letter from a dean of a college in Geneva, which said YES.At first, Geneva College, like other colleges, was not willing to enroll Liza. But later the important people of that college learned that Liza’s application had the support of a fam ous doctor, and they were afraid to offend that man. So the dean decided to play trick by turning the matter over to the students’ general meeting of the college, thinking that students would be the last to agree to take Liza. When the student body met, most students took no interest in the matter. Of the rest, some considered the young American’s idea interesting and some thought by having Liza they could be very proud of their college training the world’s first woman doctor. Very soon students all agreed to accept Elizabeth. The dean of Geneva College was of course sorry to learn this, but seeing that he could do nothing to keep Elizabeth out, he gave in. Questions:14.What did Elizabeth Blackwell do in order to be enrolled by a medical college?15.What can we learn about the dean in Geneva College?16.What do you know about Elizabeth?Section CDirections: In section C, you will hear two longer conversations. The conversations will be read twice. After you hear each conversation, you are required to fill in the numbered blanks with the information you have heard.Blanks 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation.W:Welcome to our agency. Yes, Mr Thompson, what kind of person would you like to meet?M:Well, I want somebody who’s not to o old, probably around, say, 22.W:What sort of job do you think she should have?M:Now that’s a bit difficult to say. It could, could be a surgeon.W:What kind of people do you like? For example, do you like serious people? Or do you like shy people?M:Shy people are always difficult to get on with. I think I’d rather have someone who’s relatively open and fun-loving.W:What sort of things do you think she should like doing?M:Well, I think she should like outdoor sports, for example, tennis or swimming.Blanks 21 through 24 are based on the following conversation.W:OK, let’s decide to rent a vacation home. I think we have two choices. The first place is a little house near a farm where fruits are plentiful.M:Really?W:Yeah. And you can eat as much fruit as you want. Oh, but wait, it looks pretty basic. There is no washing machine or dryer...not even a TV!M:Oh no! What are we going to do without a TV! That’s terrible! What’s our second choice?W:It’s on the sunny side of the island. Very fancy place with a big swimming pool. It’s only three blocks away from the ocean.M:Who needs a swimming pool? I mean, it’s only three blocks.W:I see your point. Well, the second place does have everything. Washing machine, dryer, TV, frying pan, ...M:All we need is a toothbrush and a swimsuit... Let’s go with the second choice.。

The name appears to originate in the time of the Southern and Northern Dynasties. Different from the pen we use for writing, the “penpoint”of the Chinese writing brush is soft and big. They are generally made from animal hair, say, the rabbit, the sheep, the wolf, etc. Penholders are commonly constructed from bamboo, but special brushes may have handles of jade, carved ivory, or other precious materials. The most famous paper used for Chinese calligraphy and Chinese painting is rice paper, also named as Xuan paper. The paper is thin and light, and has a remarkable longevity. The quality of the Four Treasures of the Study plays a decisive role in one’s painting and calligraphy. Therefore, scholars engaging intraditional Chinese painting and calligraphy attached much importance to the choice of the tools.【听力原文】Section AN e w s R e p o r t O n eAn oral treatment for peanut allergy is still effective four years after it was administered, a study has found.Children were given a probiotic, with a peanut protein, daily for 18 months. When tested one month later, 80% could tolerate peanuts without any allergic symptoms and after four years, 70% of them were still able to eat peanuts without suffering any side-effects.Food allergies have risen dramatically in recent decades, with peanut allergy one of the most deadly. Lead researcher Prof Mimi Tang, of Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Melbourne, said half the children were consuming peanuts regularly while others were only eating them infrequently. “The importance of this finding is that these children were able to eat peanuts like children who don’t have peanut allergy and still maintain their tolerant state, protected against reactions to peanuts,” she said. These ice cream entrepreneurs have found business models that enable them to thrive in a market dominated by large retailers. And some have even dipped their toes in the export market. One such success story is Londoner John Bonar, 53, who started selli ng ice cream when he was just 11. “We would get on a lorry in the East End, fill barrows full of ice cream, get dropped off around Hyde Park or Madame Tussauds and just sell ice cream,” he tells me.He launched his own business at the age of 21, selling ice cream from a van with a hole in the floor and windscreen wipers that didn’t work. So what shall we work on today?M: Well, the problem is that this writing assignment isn’t coming out right. What I thought I was writing on was to talk about what particular sport means to me when I participate in.W: What sport did you choose?M: I decided to write about cross-country skiing.W: What are you going to say about skiing?M: That’s the problem. I thought I would write about how peaceful it is to be out in the country.W: So why is that a problem?M: As I start describing how quiet it is to be out in the woods. Ikeep mentioning how much effort it takes to keep going.Cross-country skiing isn’t as easy as some people think. It takes a lot of energy, but that’s not part of my paper. So I guessI should leave it out. But now I don’t know how to explain thatfeeling of peacefulness without explaining how hard you have to work for it. It all fits together. It’s not like just sitting down somewhere and watching the clouds roll by. That’s different.W: Then you’ll have to include that in your point. The peacefulness of cross-country skiing is the kind you earn by effort. Why leave that out? Part of your point you knew beforehand but part you discovered as you wrote. That’s common, right?M: Yeah, I guess so.Questions 8 to 11 are based on the conversation you have just heard.8. What is the topic of the man’s writing assignment?9. Tell us Mr. Angeleno, how did you get started?M: Well I started off with a small diner. I did all the cooking myself and my wife waited on tables. It was really too much work for two people. My cooking is great. And word got around town about the food. Within a year, I had to hire another cook and four waitresses. When that restaurant became very busy, I decided to expand my business. Now with three places my main concern is keeping the business successful and running smoothly.W: Do you advertise?M: Oh yes. I don’t have any TV commercials, because they are too expensive. But I advertise a lot on radio and in local newspapers. My children used to distribute ads in nearby shopping centers, but we don’t need to do that any more.W: Why do you believe you’ve been so successful?M: Em, I always serve the freshest possible food and I make the atmosphere as comfortable and as pleasant as I can, so that my customers will want to come back.W: So you always aim to please the customers?M: Absolutely! Without them I would have no business at all.W: Thank you Mr. Angeleno. Section CP a s s a g e O n eThere are many commonly held beliefs about eye glasses and eyesight that are not proven facts. For instance, some people believe that wearing glasses too soon weakens the eyes. But there is no evidence to show that the structure of eyes is changed by wearing glasses at a young age. Wearing the wrong glasses, however, can prove harmful. Studies show that for adults there is no danger, but children can develop loss of vision if they have glasses inappropriate for their eyes.We have all heard some of the common myths about how eyesight gets bad. Most people believe that reading in dim light causes poor eyesight, but that is untrue. Too little light makes the eyes work harder, so they do get tired and strained. Eyestrain also results from reading a lot, reading in bed, and watching too much television. However, although eyestrain may cause some pain or headaches, it does not permanently damage eyesight.Another myth about eyes is that they can be replaced, or transferred from one person to another. There are close to one million nerve fibers that connect the eyeball to the brain, as of yet it is impossible to attach them all in a new person. Only certain parts of the eye can be replaced. But if we keep clearing up the myths and learning more about the eyes, someday a full transplant may be possible.Questions 16 to 18 are based on the passage you have just heard.Q16. What does the speaker want to tell us about eyesight?Q17. What do studies about wearing the wrong glasses show?Q18. What do we learn about eye transplanting from the talk?P a s s a g e T w oWhen people care for an elderly relative, they often do not use available community services such as adult daycare centers. If the caregivers are adult children, they are more likely to use such services, especially because they often have jobs and other responsibilities. In contrast, a spouse usually the wife, is much less likely to use support services or to put the dependent person in a nursing home. Social workers discover that the wife normally tries to take care of her husband herself for as long as she can in order not to use up their life savings. Researchers have found that caring for the elderly can be a very positive experience. The elderly appreciated the care and attention they received. They were affectionate and cooperative. However, even when caregiving is satisfying, it is hard work. Social workers and experts on aging offer caregivers and potential caregivers help when arranging for the care of an elderly relative. One consideration is to ask parents what they want before they become sick or dependent. Perhaps they prefer going into a nursing home and can select one in advance. On the other hand, they may want to live with their adult children. Caregivers must also learn to state their needs and opinions clearly and ask for help from others especially brothers and sisters. Brothers and sisters are often willing to help, but they may not know what to do.Questions 19 to 21 are based on the passage you have just heard.Q19. Why are adult children more likely to use community services to help care for elderly parents?Q20. Why are most wives unwilling to put their dependent husbands into nursing homes?Q21. According to the passage, what must caregivers learn to do? P a s s a g e T h r e eSince a union representative visited our company to inform us about our rights and protections’ my co-workers have been worrying about health conditions and complaining about safety hazards in the workplace. Several of the employees in the computer department, for example, claim to be developing vision problems from having to stare at a video display terminal for about 7 hours a day. The supervisor of the laboratory is beginning to get headaches and dizzy spells because she says it’s dangerous to breathe some of the chemical smoke there. An X-rays technician is refusing to do her job until the firm agrees to replace its out-dated equipment. She insists that it's exposing workers to unnecessarily high doses of radiation. She thinks that she may have to contact the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and asked that government agency to inspect the department. I've heard that at a factory in the area two pregnant women who were workingwith paint requested a transfer to a safer department, because they wanted to prevent damage to their unborn babies. The supervisor of personnel refused the request. In another firm the workers were constantly complaining about the malfunctioning heating system, but the owner was too busy or too mean to do anything about it. Finally, they all met and agreed to wear ski-clothing to work the next day. The owner was too embarrassed to talk to his employees. But he had the heating system replaced right away.Questions 22 to 25 are based on the passage you have just heard.Q22. What does the talk focus on?Q23. What did the X-ray technician ask her company to do?Q24. What does the speaker say about the two pregnant women working with paint?Q25. Why did the workers in the firm wear ski-clothing to work?。

第六套模拟练习题参考答案作文参考范文Pet RaisingNowadays, with the improvement of the people’s living standard, some people form a habit of raising small or domestic animals as pets. Some raise small dogs or cats as their pets while others raise various birds or fishes as their pets. However, some people object to the idea of raising animals as pets. To them, animals have their own right to live a natural life like human beings. On the other hand, the way people raise animals as pets have a negative influence on the surroundings, for example, dogs’ chasing people on the street and so on. What’s more, some animals will transmit some diseases. In my opinion, I do not like the idea to raise animals at pets. We should not deprive them of their natural right. In this way, we will live in a peaceful world in harmony with the other living creatures.快速阅读参考答案1. B).纵观全文可知,本文主要讲述的是”有更多的人利用自己掌握的专业知识或技术在网上赚钱”.2. J.K.Rowling’s wizard is not alone. The past decade has been a harvest for good children’s books, which has set off a large quantity of films and an increased sales of classics such as The Lord of the Rings.Yet despite that, reading is increasingly unpopular among children.According to statistics,in 1997,23% said they didn’t like reading at all.In 2003,35% did.And around 6% of children leave primary school each year unable to read properly.Maybe the decline is caused by the increasing availability of computer games.Maybe the books boom has affected only the top of the educational pile.Either way,Chancellor Cordon Brown plans to change things for the bottom of the class. In his pre-budget report,he announced the national project of Reading Recovery to help the children struggling most.Reading Recovery is aimed at six-year-old,who receive four months of individual daily half-hour classes with a specially trained teacher. An evaluation earlier this year reported that children on the scheme made 20 months’progress in just one year, whereas similarly weak readers without special help made just five months’ progress, and so ended the year even further below the level expected for their age.International research tends to find that when British children leave primary school they read well, but read less often for fun than those elsewhere.Reading for fun matters because children who are keen on reading can expect lifelong pleasure and loving books is an excellent indicator of future educational success.According to the OECD,being a regular and enthusiastic reader is of great advantage.1.Which of the following is TRUE of Paragraph 1?A.Children’s books have been adapted from films.B.High-quality children’s books have been published.C.The sales of classics have led to the popularity of films.D.The sales of presents for children have increased.2.Statistics suggested that ________.A.the number of top students increased with the use of computersB.a decreasing number of children showed interest in readingC.a minority of primary school children read properlyD.a huge percentage of children read regularly3.What do we know about Reading Recovery?A.An evaluation of it will be made sometime this year.B.Weak readers on the project were the most hardworking.C.It aims to train special teachers to help children with reading.D.Children on the project showed noticeable progress in reading.4.Reading for fun is important because book-loving children ________.A.take greater advantage of the projectB.show the potential to enjoy a long lifeC.are likely to succeed in their educationD.would make excellent future researchers5.The aim of this text would probably be ________.A.to overcome primary school pupils’ reading difficultyB.to encourage the publication of more children’s booksC.to remind children of the importance of reading for funD.to introduce a way to improve early childhood reading1.He wasn’t satisfied with just walking.(完形填空第五段第二句)他不满足仅仅在走。

Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice.Passage OneQuestions 11 to 15 are based on the following passage. We see neighbors practically every day — in the morning before we rush to work and in the evening when we return. But have you ever thought it over why neighbors are so important to our lives?11Neighbors can help bring out our social best. After all, neighbors deserve to be treated with respect and friendliness like everyone else.Neighbors can be helpful too. They can help look after our houses when we are away on holiday. If you are new to the neighborhood, they can advise you on how things operate, where to go and so on.Hence, if you have a good relationship with your neighbors, it is easier to solve problems like who should keep the passageways clean, or who should do repairs on retaining walls (挡土墙) or fences.Of course, you have good and bad neighbors. The good neighbors help one another. A good neighbor may spend their own money buying young trees and planting them to beautify the neighborhood for everyone, or may help to dig a communal garden bed for roses.Good neighbors give each other food occasionally. It’s not what and how often you give, it’s the thought that counts. Then you have the bad neighbors.I know of a neighbor who trimmed the branches of his tree, letting them fall and damage another neighbor’s fence and nearby plants.matter even when the victimized neighbor complained12. The bad neighbor also had a fierce dog and does not bother to put it on a leash13. This dog has frightened some older ladies living close by.Then there are neighbors who are a little bit too “nosy”. They invade your privacy too often by focusing on their binoculars on your homes or asking too many questions about your activities14.If you have problems with your neighbors, you’d better discuss these with them openly. You might be living with them for years and it is in both your interests to solve these problems amicably (友善地)15.You can get a restraining order to stop a neighbor from harassing you or your property.Taking legal action to solve a problem with a neighbor should be the last choice. If you have to take this action, then it might be better to move to another neighborhood.11. Which one of the following can be the most proper title for this passage?A) Good Neighbors Make Life EasyB) Neighbors: Helpers of LifeC) Good and Bad NeighborsD) How to Deal With Neighbors?正确答案:A12. A good neighbor will behave in all the following ways EXCEPT ______.A) being glad to help one anotherB) giving a hand to new neighborsC) keeping quiet about mattersD) being considerate to others正确答案:C13. Which statement is true about bad neighbors?A) They trim the branches too frequently.B) They keep the fierce pets at large.C) They frighten old ladies for fun.D) They keep quiet about any matter.正确答案:B keep … at large(囚犯)在逃;逍遥法外14. What does the word “nosy” (P ara.11) mean?A) Be sensitive to smells.B) Be keen on finding secrets out.C) Be interested in others’ business.D) Be good at making sounds.正确答案:C15. How does the author advise you to solve the problems with your neighbors?A) Warn your neighbors before action.B) Talk about the trouble frankly.C) Post a restraining order on your neighbor’s door.D) Go to the lawsuit directly.正确答案:BPassage TwoWhen you consciously keep thinking of something, your unconscious mind will somehow spontaneously push that idea or issue back to the surface even when you are doing something else, because your unconscious mind accepts, stores, and plays back everything that the conscious mind fo cuses on. The unconscious mind is like a “yes” person, agreeing, accepting and reminding.Hence, your unconscious mind can respond positively or negatively, depending on how you have consciously conditioned it — by constantly thinking about something. If you keep thinking negatively of someone, you will constantly say negative things about that person when you are chatting away with another friend. If you keep telling yourself that it is very difficult to study English or that your English lecture is boring, then that thought will always crop up uninvited when you are chatting with someone or doing something else. That is how the unconscious mind works. That is why successful athletes who consciously, continuously and consistently focus on superior performance actually perform well because they are driven by their unconscious mind.18It’s important to understand that whatever you consciously focus on, your unconscious mind will accept it. You need to think positively so that your unconscious mind will respond likewise.19If you find yourself in a negative mood, discontinue that mood. Perhaps look at yourself through a mirror and see how “ugly” your face is when you are in a bitter mood. If you have a coin, flip i t over. Say to yourself: “There are two sides of me, the good and the bad. Now I seem to be bad, so let’s focus on the good.”You must not hold a negative thought too long, or it will come back again and get more rooted in your system. Once you are in a negative system, it would take much more reprogramming to uproot the bad “trees” in your mind. You could have a full-grown negative “forest” in your mind — and that could take ages to uproot. So place it with a positive thought. Affirm consciously, continuously and consistently your new positive image. Focus on the new trait visually and see yourself succeeding in it.20Review your behavior. Do you moan and groan too often? Do you talk like a loser? Are you small-minded, selfish and unforgiving? It’s time you consciously conditioned your unconscious mind to work in a positive manner.1616. What is the best title for this passage?A) Train Your Unconscious MindB) Conscious Mind and Unconscious MindC) Uproot Negative ThoughtsD) How the Unconscious Mind Works正确答案:A17. How does the author support the idea that “one’s unconscious mind can respond positively or negatively”?A) By providing examples. 4 ifB) By giving reasons.C) By stating people’s opinions.D) By accounting his personal experiences.正确答案:A18. In the age of high technology, reading deserves to be paid attention to.To begin with, it is the most flexible way of getting information. Many people think it not only helps them better understand society as well as nature, but also broadens their horizon. Additionally, reading, to some degree, is of great benefit to interpersonal communication apart from self-improvement. It can also enrich our life and bring people pleasure. What’s more, reading is also regarded by many as a means of better survival.Books are to mind what food is to body. However, not every book is worthy of being read. Some may mislead readers. So keep in mind that choosing a good book is like making a good friend. Besides, reading is supposed to be done in a proper period of time, for example, in our spare time, thus not disturbing our work or study. As long as we insist on reading, we can get improved gradually.Personally, I appreciate reading classical literature in my spare time, which provides me with a thorough understanding of life and society. Through practicing reading between the lines and beyond the lines, I find my comprehension ability stably improved. Perhaps in the near future, I’m not merely a reader but also a writer.Tape ScriptsI.
