China covers large areas and has a great population. Different living habits have always been an interesting topic in the country. Recently, another difference between northerners and southerners became a hot one: the way they shop at markets.

People from southern China say they always buy what they need for just one or two meals. It is common for them to buy half of a Chinese cabbage, two potatoes and 0.25 kilograms of beef at a time. However, buying vegetables and meat enough for a week is usual in the north. Also, you can buy a very small amount of fruit, such as only one single apple or one pear, each time in the south.

Shop owners even help you peel and cut them. But this hardly happen in the north. And they usually sell fruit in basket and boxes.

The difference could be up to the different weather. Food can be kept for a long time in the north, as it is usually cold and dry there. Many northerners have the habit of stocking up (囤货) on food, especially for the long winter. But the hot and wet weather in the south make southern Chinese buy just enough food for one meal or one day, or else the food may go bad.

Some people have to use public transport, some dislike it and still some love it. If everyone has a car and drives anywhere they want to go, there will be serious traffic problems on the road. Luckily, trains are a good form of public transport.

British people use trains a lot. This is especially so for people who are travelling from London to Paris. Every day about 20 trains leave London. They travel at a very high speed and people feel glad that the trains take only 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach Paris. It’s much faster to travel by train than by bus or by car. This is because people have to drive cars or buses very carefully and lowly for many reasons, such as speed limits and traffic jams. However, when you are travelling by train, the speed is almost the same and there is no traffic jam for a train.

Besides, Londoners think taking a train is one of the safest ways of travelling on the ground.

Trains take quite a number of quality tests while they are made. More importantly, they have to take many safety checks before they are used on the rail track.

What’s more, trains in Britain are comfortable and provide fine services for their users. When you are on a London train, you will find that the train has comfortable table and seats where people can sit. They also provide food services and power plugs(电源插头)for personal computers or mobile phone.

A. old and slow

B. large, clean and powerful

C. fast, safe and comfortable ( )75. What can we know from the passage?

Setting off firecrackers is the happiest part of the Spring Festival for most Chinese kids. It is the typical Chinese custom.

Although they can bring kids so much fun, these firecrackers can also be a danger. So many Chinese cities such as Beijing and Shanghai began to ban (禁止) them in the 1980s, because the government thought it was not safe and polluted the air.

However, a few years ago the ban on firecrackers was cancelled (取消). When they heard the news, many kids were wild with joy.

According to Chinese custom, it is a must to set off firecrackers during the Spring Festival. People believe the sound of the firecrackers takes away bad luck for the coming year. Their beautiful colors and sound also bring much excitement during this most important traditional Chinese festival. Since the ban, people said that the Spring Festival was too quiet and not traditional enough. Children lost the fun and adults lost their childhood memories. Some even worried that if the ban continued, the next generation would only know the custom through books. This would be a great loss for tradition. So in recent years, many cities have brought back the old custom.

However, every year many kids get hurt by setting off fireworks in a dangerous way. So while enjoying yourself, please keep safety in mind. Don’ t set off fireworks among crowds, inside a bottle or with a part of your body right over it. No matter how much fun firecrackers are, the most important thing is to keep away from danger. We wish every kid an exciting and safe Spring Festival!
