励志优美英文阅读带翻译美文篇1Let's take steps to banish some of the most common negative thoughts many of us repeat to ourselves. Being in a negative space is harmful to our overall well-being, because what you dwell on can easily become self fulfilling if you don't change your mindset.1.I'm not good enough. This type of negative thought that can apply to many categories. Maybe you don't think you're a good enough mother or good at a sport. Even if you find yourself lacking in something, there's no need to keep repeating it to yourself. The human brain is an incredible thing. Be inspired by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, Harvard-trained neuroscientist who suffered a stroke that left her unable to walk, read, write, talk, or remember her previous life. Dr. Taylor took eight years to recover and has since then written a best-selling book about her experience and appeared on Oprah. Keep on working toward something, and watch the leaps and bounds you'll make.

Ladies and Gentlemen, esteemed teachers, proud parents, and most importantly, my fellow young friends,Today, I stand before you with a heart full of passion and a mind brimming with dreams. I am here to share with you the power of dreams, the strength of perseverance, and the beauty of never giving up. So, let us embark on this journey of inspiration, as I take you through theworld of dreams and possibilities that await us.Dreams are the guiding stars that light up our path in life. They arethe invisible threads that connect us to our true selves, to our deepest desires, and to the infinite potential that lies within us. Whether you dream of becoming a doctor, an astronaut, an artist, or even a president, know that your dreams are the seeds of your future, and they have the power to shape your destiny.First, let me tell you a story about a young girl named Malala Yousafzai. At the tender age of 11, Malala stood up for the right of girls to receive an education in her native Pakistan. She became a symbol of hope and courage, facing countless challenges and even surviving a assassination attempt. Today, Malala is the youngest ever Nobel Prize laureate, and she continues to fight for the education of girls worldwide. Malala's story teaches us that dreams can be powerful enough to change the world, and that we should never be afraid to dream big. Now, let's talk about the importance of believing in ourselves. Self-belief is the cornerstone of success. It is the belief that we are capable of achieving our dreams, that we have the strength to overcome obstacles, and that we can make a difference in the world. When we believe in ourselves, we tap into our inner power, and we become unstoppable. To build self-belief, we must embrace our unique qualities and talents. Each one of us is a masterpiece, with our own strengths and weaknesses. It is crucial to recognize our strengths and work on improving our weaknesses. When we acknowledge our worth, we become more confident, and we are more likely to pursue our dreams with determination.Furthermore, we must surround ourselves with positive influences. Surrounding ourselves with supportive people who believe in us can significantly impact our journey towards success. These individuals can provide guidance, encouragement, and inspiration when we face tough times. Remember, the people we choose to be around can either lift us up or bring us down, so choose wisely. Now, let's delve into the role of perseverance. Perseverance is the key to unlocking the door to success. It is the unwavering determination to continue pursuing our dreams, even when faced with setbacks and failures. As Thomas Edison once said, "Genius is one percent inspiration andninety-nine percent perspiration." Success is not achieved overnight; it requires hard work, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of our goals. In our lives, we will undoubtedly encounter obstacles that may seem insurmountable. However, it is during these moments that we must dig deep within ourselves and find the strength to persevere. Remember, every failure is a stepping stone to success. Each time we face a challenge and overcome it, we become stronger, more resilient, and more determined to achieve our dreams.Let me share with you another inspiring story. There was once a youngboy named Christopher Reeve, who dreamed of becoming a superhero. Unfortunately, Christopher was paralyzed from the neck down in a horse-riding accident. Despite this, he never gave up on his dream.Christopher dedicated his life to advocating for people withdisabilities and raising awareness about spinal cord injury research. His unwavering determination to overcome his circumstances serves as a testament to the power of perseverance. In addition to perseverance, we must also cultivate a growth mindset. A growth mindset is the belief that our abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. When we adopt a growth mindset, we embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, and see effort as the path to mastery. This mindset empowers us to learn fromour mistakes, adapt to new situations, and continue growing and evolving.Lastly, let me emphasize the importance of gratitude. Gratitude is the practice of appreciating the good in our lives, no matter how small. It is the act of acknowledging the people, experiences, and opportunities that have shaped us into who we are today. When we cultivate a grateful heart, we attract positivity, happiness, and abundance into our lives. Gratitude also strengthens our relationships, as it encourages us to express appreciation and kindness towards others. In conclusion, dear friends, the power of dreams is immense. It is our dreams that propel us forward, that give us purpose, and that fuel our passion. As American children, we are blessed with the freedom to dream big, to pursue our passions, and to make a difference in the world. So, let us embrace our dreams, believe in ourselves, persevere through challenges, cultivate a growth mindset, and express gratitude for the opportunities that come our way.Remember, you are not just dreamers; you are doers. You have the power to shape your destiny, to create a brighter future, and to leave a lasting impact on the world. So, go out there, be brave, be kind, and never, ever give up on your dreams.Thank you, and may your dreams come true!。
美国孩子励志演讲稿英语

Ladies and Gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon! It is an honor to stand before you today and share with you my thoughts on a subject that is close to my heart – the power of dreams. As young Americans, we stand at the precipice of a world filled with endless possibilities. It is our time to dream big, work hard, and make a difference in the lives of others.First and foremost, let me tell you that dreams are not just whimsical thoughts that float in our heads. Dreams are the blueprints of our future. They guide us, motivate us, and inspire us to reach for the stars. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., "If you can dream it, you can do it."As young Americans, we have the advantage of living in one of the most powerful and innovative countries in the world. We have access to education, technology, and opportunities that our ancestors could only dream of. But with great power comes great responsibility. It is up to us to harness our talents, skills, and passions to make a positive impact on society.Let me share with you a few stories of young Americans who have already made a significant difference in the world:1. Malala Yousafzai: At just 17 years old, Malala became a global symbol of hope and courage. After being shot by the Taliban for advocating for girls' education, she continued to fight for the rights of children worldwide. Her dream is simple yet powerful: to ensure that every child has access to education.2. Jack Andraka: At the age of 15, Jack developed a breakthrough cancer detection test that is 168 times faster and 400 times more sensitive than the current method. His dream is to save millions of lives by improving early cancer detection.3. Tyler Armstrong: At the age of 14, Tyler became the youngest person to summit Mount Everest without oxygen. His dream is to inspire others to overcome their own challenges and to give back to those less fortunate. These stories are just a glimpse into the incredible potential that lies within each of us. But how do we turn our dreams into reality? Here are a few key steps to guide you on your journey:1. Believe in Yourself: The first step to achieving your dreams is to believe in yourself. Your self-confidence will be your biggest ally in overcoming obstacles and setbacks. Remember, you are capable of achieving greatness, and your dreams are within reach.2. Set Clear Goals: Once you have a dream, it is essential to break it down into smaller, achievable goals. Set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals to keep you on track.3. Work Hard: Success is not handed to you on a silver platter. It requires dedication, perseverance, and hard work. Be willing to put in the effort, even when it seems impossible.4. Learn from Failures: Failures are not setbacks; they are stepping stones to success. When you face obstacles, learn from them, adapt, and move forward. Remember that every failure brings you one step closer to achieving your dream.5. Surround Yourself with Support: Find mentors, friends, and family who believe in your dreams and will support you along the way. They will provide guidance, encouragement, and a shoulder to lean on when times get tough.6. Give Back: As you work towards achieving your dreams, never forget to give back to those in need. By helping others, you will not only enrich their lives but also find fulfillment and purpose in your own.In conclusion, the power of dreams is a force that can transform our lives and shape the world around us. As young Americans, we have the potential to be leaders, innovators, and change-makers. Let us not be daunted by the challenges that lie ahead, but instead embrace them as opportunities for growth and self-discovery.As you go forth from this gathering, take a moment to reflect on your dreams. Ask yourself, "What is my dream, and how will I achieve it?"Remember that the journey may be long and arduous, but the rewards will be worth every sacrifice.Together, let us strive to be the best versions of ourselves, to pursue our dreams with unwavering determination, and to leave a lasting legacy of hope, inspiration, and compassion.Thank you for listening, and may your dreams guide you to a futurefilled with endless possibilities.God bless America, and God bless us all.。

大学英语课文乔丹最有天赋,命中率依然是一半最勤奋

中英文阅读《少年天才迈克尔乔丹》There were already signs that he had a good deal of talent. Harvest Smith, a classmate and close friend who in those days played basketball with him practically every day, thought he was the best player on their ninth-grade team — he was small, but he was every quick. “You’d see him get a shot off, and you’d wonder how he did it, because he wasn’t that bit,” Smith said, “but it was the quickness. The only question was how big he was going to be — and how far up he would take his skill leve l.”The summer after ninth grade, Jordan and Smith both went to Pop Herring’s basketball camp. Neither of them had yet come into his body, and almost all of the varsity players, two and sometimes three years older, seemed infinitely stronger at that moment when a year or two in physical development can make all the difference. In Smith’s mind there was no doubt which of the two of them was the better player—it was Michael by far. But on the day the varsity cuts were announced —it was the big day of the year, for they had all known for weeks when the list would be posted — he and Roy Smith had gone to the Laney gym. Smith’s name was on it, Michael’s was not.It was the worst day of Jordan’s young life. The list was alphabetical, so he focused on where the Js should be, and it wasn’t there, and he kept reading and rereading the list, hoping somehow that he had missed it, or that the alphabetical listing had been done incorrectly. That day he went home by himself and went to his room and cried. Smith understood what was happening — Michael, he knew, never wanted you to see him when he was hurt.“We knew Michael was good,” Fred Lynch, the Laney assistant coach, said later, “but we wanted him to play more and we thought the jayvee was better for him.” He easil y became the best player on the jayvee that year. He simply dominated the play, and he did it not by size but with quickness. There were games in which he would score forty points. He was so good, in fact, that the jayvee games became quite popular. The entire varsity began to come early so they could watch him play in the jayvee games.Smith noticed that while Jordan had been wildly competitive before he had been cut, after the cut he seemed even more competitive than ever, as if determined that it would never happen again. His coaches noticed it, too. “The first time I ever saw him, I had no idea who Michael Jordan was. I was helping to coach the Laney varsity,” saidRon Coley. “We went over to Goldsboro, which was our big rival, and I entered the gym when the jayvee game was just ending up. There were nine players on the court just coasting, but there was one kid playing his heart out. The way he was playing I thought his team was down one point with two minutes to play. So I looked up at the clock and his team was down twenty points and there was only one minute to play. It was Michael, and I quickly learned he was always like that.”Between the time he was cut and the start of basketball in his junior year, Jordan grew about four inches. The speed had always been there, and now he was stronger, and he could dunk .His hands had gotten much bigger, Smith noticed. He was as driven as ever, the hardest-working player on the team in practice. If he thought that his teammates were not working hard enough, he would get on them himself, and on occasion he pushed the coaches to get on them. Suddenly Laney High had the beginning of a very good basketball team, and its rising star was Michael Jordan.译文:迈克尔的天赋早已有所显露。
励志教授美国演讲稿英文

Good morning/afternoon! It is an honor to stand before you today and share a few thoughts that I hope will inspire and motivate you on your journey. Whether you are here as students, educators, or simply as individuals seeking to enrich your lives, I believe that each of us has the potential to achieve greatness. Today, I want to talk about the power of perseverance, the importance of dreams, and the unwavering belief in oneself.First and foremost, let us talk about perseverance. Life is not a straight path; it is filled with twists and turns, challenges and setbacks. It is easy to become discouraged when faced with adversity, but it is during these moments that our true character is tested. Perseverance is the ability to continue forward despite obstacles and setbacks. It is the unwavering determination to never give up, no matter how difficult the circumstances may be.One of the greatest examples of perseverance is the story of Dr. Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan environmentalist and the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Dr. Maathai faced immense opposition and personal risks in her fight to protect the environment and promote democracy in Kenya. Yet, she never wavered in her commitment to her cause. Through her perseverance, she not only transformed the lives of countless individuals but also inspired a generation to take action and make a difference. In our own lives, we may not face the same level of adversity as Dr. Maathai, but we all encounter challenges that test our resolve. Whether it is academic pressure, personal struggles, or professional setbacks, it is essential to remember that perseverance is not about avoiding failure, but about embracing it as a stepping stone to success. Each failure teaches us valuable lessons, helps us grow stronger, and prepares us for future successes.Next, let us discuss the importance of dreams. Dreams are the fuel that drives us forward, the guiding light that helps us navigate through the darkness. They are the visions of what we hope to achieve, the aspirations that keep us motivated and inspired. Without dreams, we are like ships without a compass, adrift in the vast ocean of life. However, dreams are not enough on their own. They must be accompanied by hard work, dedication, and a willingness to take risks. The story of J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, is a testament to the power of dreams combined with perseverance. After facing numerous rejections and personal hardships, Rowling did not give up on her dream of becoming a successful author. She continued to write, believing in herself and her story. Today, the Harry Potter series is one of the most beloved and influential literary works of our time.In your own lives, take the time to identify your dreams and pursue them with passion and determination. Do not be afraid to dream big, for asthe saying goes, "If you can dream it, you can achieve it." Rememberthat success is not a destination, but a journey. Each step you take, no matter how small, brings you closer to realizing your dreams.Lastly, let us talk about the unwavering belief in oneself. Self-belief is the cornerstone of success. It is the confidence that you possess the skills, talents, and qualities necessary to overcome any obstacle and achieve your goals. When you believe in yourself, you are more likely to take risks, face challenges head-on, and persist in the face of adversity.Self-belief begins with self-awareness. Take the time to understand your strengths and weaknesses, and learn from both. Surround yourself with supportive individuals who believe in you and challenge you to be the best version of yourself. Remember that you are not defined by your past failures, but by your future successes. In conclusion, let us embrace the power of perseverance, the importance of dreams, and the unwavering belief in oneself. As you move forward on your journey, remember that success is not an accident; it is the result of hard work, determination, and a relentless pursuit of your dreams. Here are a few key takeaways to help you on your path:1. Persevere through challenges: Embrace failures as opportunities for growth and never give up on your dreams.2. Dream big and pursue them with passion: Identify your aspirations and work diligently to achieve them.3. Believe in yourself: Develop self-awareness and surround yourself with supportive individuals who inspire you.4. Take risks and face challenges head-on: Success is not achieved without taking chances and stepping out of your comfort zone.5. Stay humble and grateful: Recognize the efforts of others and appreciate the journey that has brought you to this point. As you embark on this incredible journey, remember that you have the power to shape your destiny. With perseverance, dreams, and self-belief, there is no limit to what you can achieve. Thank you for listening, and may you all go forth and make your dreams a reality.God bless you all.。

美国励志演讲稿英文

Ladies and Gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon/evening. It is an honor to stand before you today and share a few thoughts on a subject that has always been close to my heart: the power of perseverance. In a world that often seems to be racing towards the finish line, it is easy to get lost in the shuffle, to feel overwhelmed by the challenges that life throws at us. But I stand before you to remind us all that within each of us lies an incredible strength—the strength to persevere, to rise above adversity, and to achieve greatness.Let us start with a simple truth: life is not a straight path. It is filled with twists and turns, ups and downs. And it is in these moments of adversity that we truly find out who we are and what we are made of. It is not the absence of challenges that defines our character, but rather how we respond to them.Consider the story of Thomas Edison. He failed 1,000 times before he invented the light bulb. Can you imagine the frustration, the doubt, the despair he must have felt? But instead of giving up, he said, "I have not failed. I've just found 1,000 ways that won't work." Edison's perseverance is a testament to the fact that success is not the absence of failure, but rather the willingness to keep trying, to keep learning, and to keep moving forward. Now, let's talk about Michael Jordan. The man who was cut from his high school basketball team. Imagine the pain, the humiliation, the self-doubt that must have plagued him. But instead of letting this setback define him, he used it as a fuel for his fire. He said, "I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." Michael Jordan's journey is a powerful reminder that success is not a straight shot to the top; it is a series of trials and tribulations, each one shaping us into the person we are today. These stories are not just anecdotes from the past; they are a call to action for each and every one of us. They remind us that we are not alone in our struggles, that we have the power within us to overcome any obstacle that stands in our way.So, how do we harness this power of perseverance? How do we stay motivated, inspired, and driven in the face of adversity? Here are a few key principles that I believe can guide us on this journey:1. Set Clear Goals: Without clear goals, we are like a ship without a compass. Take the time to define what you want to achieve in your life. Write it down, visualize it, and commit to it. Remember, a goal is not just a dream; it is a roadmap to your future.2. Embrace Failure: Failure is not the enemy; it is a teacher. Each failure teaches us something valuable, something that can help us grow and improve. Instead of viewing failure as a setback, view it as a stepping stone to success.3. Surround Yourself with Support: Success is not a solo journey. Find mentors, friends, and family who will support you, challenge you, and push you to be your best self. Remember, you are not alone.4. Stay Positive: A positive mindset can make all the difference. When you face challenges, remind yourself why you started, why you are doing what you are doing. Stay focused on your goals, and believe in your ability to achieve them.5. Adapt and Pivot: Sometimes, the path to success is not linear. Be willing to adapt, to pivot when necessary. Be flexible, and rememberthat sometimes the best path forward is not the one you originally planned.6. Never Give Up: This is the most important principle of all. Perseverance is not about how long you can endure pain; it is about how long you can endure disappointment. Never give up on your dreams, never give up on yourself.Ladies and gentlemen, the world is filled with opportunities, but it is also filled with challenges. The question is not whether we will face adversity, but how we will respond to it. Will we succumb to the fear of failure, or will we embrace it as a chance to grow? Will we let the obstacles in our path define us, or will we use them to forge a path to greatness? In the words of Winston Churchill, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." Let us all find that courage within ourselves, let us all embrace the power of perseverance, and let us all strive to achieve greatness.Thank you.。

2.Exploring An Alternate UniverseWhat Makes People Tick? All people have their own way of being in the world. It is easiest to comprehend this basic yet profound fact when we consider that every human being on the planet occupies a distinct role in the universe. We grow up in different environments, affected by a unique range of influences. The preferences, values, and beliefs we embrace are frequently related intimately to our origins. And the need to individualize our experiences is instinctive, as doing so enables us to cope when we must face challenges on our own. Consequently, each of us has developed a perspective that is uniquely ours. Interacting peacefully and constructively with people from all walks of life is a matter of first understanding where they are coming from. Then we can adjust our expectations so that we avoid making undue assumptions about what they are about. In the face of emerging interpersonal conflict, it is easy to assume that others are being difficult, unreasonable, or stubborn. We are apt to grow frustrated when someone in our environment does not share our opinions or feel compelled to support us in our endeavors. It is likely that the individual or individuals before us may simply possess differing notions with regard to what is and what is not important in this life. We can ease the tension that exists between us by reaffirming our belief in the fundamental right of all beings to determine their own destinies. To foster a harmonious relationship, we need to do our best to relate to the unique universes they inhabit. And as we discover what makes them tick, our ability to find a mode of interaction that is pleasing to both of us is enhanced. When there are barriers keeping you from connecting with someone else, think of questions you can ask them to gain a more thorough understanding of their point of view. You may discover that in addition to the differences in perspective dividing you, they are subject to insecurities and other personal issues that influence their way of seeing the world. It is likely that you will never fully grasp the myriad complexities embodied by humanity, but you can go a long way toward encouraging mutually satisfying relations by reaching out to others in the spirit of sympathetic comprehension.3.Present In The ProgressionLetting Life UnfoldOur lives are guided by natural rhythms that are particular to each of us and cannot be altered by force of will alone. Life itself is a journey made up of processes and events that manifest before us only to be swept away when time marches on. Whether we envision ourselves creating a career, building a family, or developing the self, we instinctively know when the time has come for us to realize our dreams because all that is involved comes together harmoniously. When the time is right, the passage of destiny cannot be blocked. Yet as desperate as we are to touch these beautiful futures we have imagined, we cannot grow if we are not fully present in the evolutionary experience. The present can be challenging, uncomfortable, and tedious, but life unfolds as it will, and the universe will wait patiently as we make our way into the unknown. The fate that awaits us is not dependent on our pace, which was preordained before we ever appeared in human guise. Therefore there is no reason to rush through life to reach those pinnacles of development associated with the paths we have chosen. Enjoying and fully experiencing the journey of life is as important as achieving goals and reaching milestones. There are lessons we can learn during those moments that seem immaterial or insignificant that we cannot learn at any other time. Appreciating these takes patience, however, because human beings tend to focus on the fulfillment of expectations rather than the simple joys of being.Like many people, you have no doubt longed for a device that would give you the power to fast forward through certain periods of your existence. Yet haste is by its very nature vastly more stressful than serene fortitude. When you feel yourself growing impatient because the pace of your development is deceptively slow, remember that everything that will occur in your life will occur in its own time. Quelling your urge to rush will enable you to witness yourself learning, changing, and becoming stronger. There is so much to see and do in between the events and processes that we deem definitive. If you are patient enough to take pleasure in your existence's unfolding, the journey from one pinnacle to the next will seem to take no time at all.4.No Hard EdgesCreating Space In The BodyOur minds and bodies are interconnected, and the condition of one affects the condition of the other. This is why meditation is such a powerful tool for healing the body, as powerful as physical therapies. When our minds are cluttered with thoughts, information, and plans, our bodies respond by trying to take action. When the body has a clear directive from the mind, it knows what to do, but a cluttered, unfocused mind creates a confused, tense body. Our muscles tighten up, our breath shortens, and we find ourselves feeling constricted without necessarily knowing why. When we sit down to meditate, we let our bodies know that it is okay to be still and rest. This is a clear directive from the mind, and the body knows exactly how to respond. Thus, at the very beginning, we have created a sense of clarity for the body and the mind. As we move deeper into meditation, the state of our mind reveals itself, and we have the opportunity to consciously decide to settle it. A meditation teacher pointed out that if you put a cow in a small pen, she acts up and pushes against the boundaries, whereas if you provide her with a large, open space, she will peacefully graze in one spot. In the same way, our thoughts settle down peacefully if we provide them with enough space, and our bodies follow suit. When we settle down to examine and experience our consciousness, we discover that there are no hard, definable edges. It is a vast, open space in which our thoughts can come and go without making waves, as long as we let them by neither attaching to them nor repressing them. As we see our thoughts come and go, we begin to breathe deeper and more easily, finding that our body is more open to the breath as it relaxes along with the mind. In this way, the space we recognize through meditation creates space in our bodies, allowing for a feeling of lightness and rightness with the world.7.The Consequences You SowAction And EffectAll motive and action affects the cosmos in some way. The principle of cause and effect is the truth that allows us to change ourselves and the world around us for the better. However, this same universal law is also at work when change is not at the forefront of our minds. Our intentions flow forever outward in the form of energy, affecting both the people closest to us and billions of individuals we will likely never meet. For this reason, we should strive always to speak, think, and behave with great thoughtfulness and compassion. The virtues we choose to embody can inspire joy and integrity in the lives of countless people, whether we touch their existence directly or not.The influence we wield is infinite. In an effort to internalize our conscious understanding of the nature of cause and effect, we can never truly know how our thoughts, emotions, words, or actions will manifest themselves on the larger universal stage because it is likely that the furthest-reaching effects will fall outside the range of our perception. We can only look to the guidance of our conscience, which will help us determine whether each of our choices is contributing to humanity's illumination or setting the stage for unintended troubles. When we are in doubt, we need only remember that the cultivation of altruism inevitably leads to a harvest of goodwill and grace. Motivated by a sincere desire to spread goodness, we will be naturally drawn to those choices that will help us express our commitment to universal well-being. Nothing you do, however minor or mundane, is ever exempt from the rules of cause and effect. From the moment of your birth, you have served as an agent of change, setting forces beyond your comprehension into motion across the surface of the earth and beyond. You can exert conscious control over this transformative energy simply by examining your intentions and endeavoring always to promote peace, positive energy, and passion in your ideas and actions. While you may never fully comprehend the extent of your purposefully heartfelt influence, you can rest assured that it will be universally felt.yers Of FeelingCoping With Passive AggressionMany people are taught from a young age to suppress feelings commonly regarded as negative, such as anger, resentment, fear, and sorrow. Those who cannot or will not express these emotions tend to engage in passive-aggressive behaviors that provide them with a means of redirecting their feelings. Passive aggression can take many forms: People who feel guilty saying “no” may continual ly break their promises because they couldn’t say no when they meant it. Others will substitute snide praise for a slur to distance themselves from the intense emotions they feel. More often than not, such behavior is a cry for help uttered by those in need of compassion and gentle guidance. When we recognize passive-aggressive patterns in the behavior of others, we should never allow ourselves to be drawn into a struggle for power. Passive aggression is most often wielded by those who feel powerless in the face of what they perceive as negative emotions because they hope to avoid confronting their true feelings. They feel they are in control because they do not display overt emotion and often cannot understand how they have alienated their peers. If someone close to us shows signs of frustration or annoyance but claims nothing is amiss, we can point out that their tone of voice or gestures are communicating a different message and invite them to confide in us. When we feel slighted by a backhanded compliment, it is important that we calmly explain how the jibe made us feel and why. And when an individual continually breaks their promises, we can help them understand that they are free to say no if they are unwilling to be of service. As you learn to detect passive aggression, you may be surprised to see a hint of it in yourself. Coping with the natural human tendency to veil intense emotions can be as simple as reminding yourself that expressing your true feelings is healthy. The emotions typically regarded as negative will frequently be those that inspire you to change yourself and your life for the better, whereas passive-aggressive behavior is a means of avoiding change. When you deal constructively with your feelings, you can put them behind you and move forward unencumbered by unexplored emotion.21.Sharing GriefOpening To Receive ComfortWhen we experience something that causes us to feel shock and sadness, we may feel the urge to withdraw from life. It may seem like remaining withdrawn will keep us protected from the world, but during these times it is important to reach out to those trusted and precious people who care about us the most. Even with our best information and reasoning, we never know when someone else’s experience or perspective can give us additional information that we need. The universe speaks to us through many channels, and when we open ourselves up to receive its messages, we also receive nurturing care from a loving partner in life’s journey.Grief is part of the human experience, and sharing our vulnerability is what creates truly close bonds in our relationships. Opening ourselves up in this way gets to the core of our being, past all of our defenses and prejudices. When life seems to crack the outer shell of our world, we are both raw and fresh at the same time. It is then that we discover who is truly willing to walk with us through life. We also see that some of those sent to us may not be the ones we expected to see. Regardless, we learn to trust in the universe, in others, in our own strength and resilience, and in the wisdom of life itself.Sharing grief allows us to ease our burden by letting someone else help carry it. This helps us process our own inner thoughts and feelings through the filter of a trusted and beloved someone. We may feel guilty or selfish, as if we are unloading on someone who has their own challenges. Although, if we think about it, we know we would do the same for them, and their protests would seem pointless. Remember that not sharing feelings with others denies them the opportunity to feel. We may be the messenger sent by the universe for their benefit, and it is on this mission that we have been sent. By sharing our hopes and fears, joys and pains with another person, we accept the univ erse’s gifts of wisdom and loving care.31.The Life Of Your DreamsWaking UpMany of us are familiar with the experience of waking up to the fact that our lives are no longer working the way we have set them up. Sometimes this is due to a shift occurring inside ourselves over time, and sometimes it is part of the larger shift that is currently affecting all humanity. Change is happening at such an increased rate that it is difficult to predict what the future holds. As a result, many of the old ways of planning out a life are no longer applicable, and if we cling to them we feel strangely out of tune with reality. If we are in tune with the energies around us, we will begin to question ideas that just a few years ago seemed sensible. In the simplest terms, the shift we are undergoing right now has to do with recognizing ourselves as being more than human, remembering that our earthly aspects are a very small part of who we are. In truth, we are multidimensional beings. When we begin to realize this, the life we planned for a limited conception of ourselves no longer fits. We must meet the needs and qualifications not only of our bodies but also of our souls. This realization dawns slowly for some and with the suddenness of a bolt of lightning for others, and we all must find the way that works for us to integrate this new and larger sense of self into our life plan.Sometimes a drastic change feels totally right, and overnight we might decide to sell our home and move to another country or quit our job and begin a second career. Other times, we allow the changes to proceed slowly, beginning perhaps with allowing ourselves to dream of a new life or just to ask the deeper questions that encourage us to discover our true purpose in life. Either way, know that this process is a natural sign of the growth we are all going through, and trust it to guide you to the life of your dreams.39.Questioning BeliefsOur Inner Stock MarketJust as the stock market rises and falls in response to what people are willing to put their money behind, we have inside ourselves an inner economy that rises and falls in response to our beliefs about what is possible. Sometimes the degree to which we are willing to challenge our belief systems determines the success of our inner economy. For example, imagine that your family of origin had a belief that musical talent was not something they possessed. As a member of that group, you would likely inherit that same belief about yourself. As a result, even if you had a great desire to create music, you might be hesitant to really get behind yourself, fearing that your investment would not pay off. Even if you had the courage to follow your passion, your inner belief that you are not inherently talented would probably be a major obstacle to investing your energy in your dream. On the other hand, if you found a way to release that negative belief, a great flood of energy would pour forth, greatly increasing the likelihood of your success. How much energy we are willing to invest in the various ideas, dreams, and visions we carry within is like the money people are, or are not, willing to invest in the various commodities available for trade on the stock market. And in both cases, belief plays a key role in determining how willing we are to get behind something. One way to open up the possibility for greater success in our inner economies is to understand that belief is not the reliable guide we sometimes think. There are other more reliable indicators of success that we can put our faith in, such as passion, gut instinct, and intuition. Some of the most successful investors in the stock market are the ones that go against the grain, trusting their instincts over the prevailing opinion about what will work.In the same way, we can learn to trust our heart’s desires and our instincts to guide us, questioning any beliefs that stand in the way of our ability to fully invest in ourselves. As we withdraw energy from limiting ideas about what is possible, we free up the resources that have the power to make our inner economy thrive.41.Empowered ForgivenessApologiesIn life there will always be times when we are affected by the actions of another person. When this happens, we often receive an apology. More often than not we say, “It’s alright,” or “ It’s okay,” and by saying this we are allowing, accepting, and giving permission for the behavior to happen again. When we say “thank you,” or “I accept your apology,” we are forced to sit in our feelings rather than ignore them. There are many of us who feel that it is easier to brush off how we really feel than to express our discomfort with something that has happened to us. While this may initially seem like the best thing to do, what it really does is put us into an unending pattern of behavior; since we are not honest with another person, we continue the cycle of letting them overstep our emotional limits time and time again. By doing this we place ourselves in the position of victim. We can put an end to this karmic chain by first acknowledging to the other person that we accept their request for forgiveness; often a simple “thank you” is enough. To truly create a greater sense of harmony in our relationship, however, we need to gently, and with compassion, express our innermost concerns about what has transpired. By taking a deep breath and calling upon the deepest parts of our spirit, we can usually find the right words to say and verbalize them in a way that lets the other person recognize ! the consequences of what they have done.If we can remember that our response to others is important, we can begin to realize that trust and forgiveness go hand in hand. And when we react in a way that engenders a greater amount of honesty and candor, we will establish a more positive and empowering way of being and interacting others.50.A Matter Of PrioritiesLetting Go Of The Little StuffWe experience numerous disappointments each and every day. Our expectations go unmet, our plans are blocked by circumstance, our wishes go unfulfilled, and we discover that our lives are subject to a myriad of forces beyond our conscious control. In some cases, our response is powerful because we must invest ourselves and our resources to overcome genuine hardship. In others, our reactions are far more passionate than our circumstances likely warrant. The tension that permeates our bodies and minds when we are late for an event, interrupted at work, or sitting in traffic is not inappropriate, but it can interfere with our well-being in profound ways. When we stop worrying about relatively unimportant matters, we can be at peace and devote so much more of ourselves to what is truly important. The small frustrations and irritations wield such power over us because they rob us of the illusion of control. But every problem is a potential teacher—a confusing situation is an opportunity to practice mindfulness, and difficult people provide us with opportunities to display compassion. There is a natural human tendency to invest copious amounts of emotional energy in minor dilemmas and frustrations in order to avoid confronting those more complex issues that are largely outside the realm of our control. The intensity of our response provides us with a temporary sense of personal power that helps us cope with challenges that might otherwise overwhelm us. But it is only when we let the little stuff go that we discover that the big stuff is not really so devastating after all.In the stress of a singularly tense incident, differentiating between an inconsequential annoyance and a legitimate challenge can seem a monumental task. Ask yourself whether the emotions you are feeling will be as vivid in a year, a day, or even an hour. As focused as you are on this moment in time, your reward for letting go of your emotional investment may be the very happiness and harmony of being whose loss you are lamenting. Needless aggravation is seldom worth the cost it exacts. You cannot distance yourself from life's inconsistencies, irritations, and upheavals, but you can relinquish your desire for perfect order and gain peace of mind in the process.。
