Zara and I usually just listen along while doodling marinara smiley faces onto our paper napkins. These are my peoples.After lunch it's off to P.E., arguably my biggest source of 7th grade angst. Somehow over summer I managed to sprout up while all my friends got even tinier and adorable. So there's me - all gangling arms and legs, looking like a newborn baby deer just learning to walk. And of course, we're playing field hockey, agame custom-made to amplify my lack of coordination and athletic ability. I usually just politely applaud from the sidelines.Finally, at long last, the closing bell rings and school is OUT for the day! Time to go home, change into my favorite ripped jeans and slouchy sweater, and get my homework grind on. As tedious as it is, I know my ticket to bigger and better things is getting through my assignments with flying colors.A few hours later, I'll smell something amazing wafting from the kitchen - dinner time! My name is Emma and I'm a 7th grader at Oakwood Middle School. I thought I'd tell you a bit about my daily life and what a typical day is like for me. It's a busy schedule for sure, but I enjoy keeping active with school, activities, seeing my friends, and just being a kid!I wake up around 6:30am on school days when my mom knocks on my bedroom door. I'm usually pretty tired since I tend to stay up too late reading, watching videos, or texting my friends. But I know I have to get going so I don't miss the bus! I hop in the shower, get dressed, grab a quick breakfast like cereal or a granola bar, and I'm out the door by 7:15.The school bus picks me up at 7:20 and I see a bunch of my friends from the neighborhood waiting at the stop too. We laugh, chat, and joke around a lot on the bus ride to school. Sometimes we even manage to get some homework done if we're running late on assignments. I have to be careful though because the bus driver has reminded us a million times to keep it down and stay in our seats! We get to school right around 7:50 and head inside.My first class is English and it starts at 8am sharp. Mrs. Walker is a pretty cool teacher and makes the class fun, but she also keeps us on track with our writing assignments, readingcomprehension, vocabulary, and all that stuff. We're reading the book "The Giver" right now which I'm really getting into. Next up is pre-algebra with Mr. Sanchez. I have to admit, math is definitely not my favorite subject! I get mixed up with all the equations, variables, and story problems. But I'm working hard and doing my best.After pre-algebra, I have geography at 9:45. This class is awesome because we get to learn all about different countries, cultures, landforms, and more. We just finished a unit on Asia which was really interesting to me. Who knew there were so many diverse countries and ethnicities there? My brain is pretty fried by the time 11:30 rolls around and it's time for lunch. I meet up with my best friends Mia, Zoe, and Jayden and we head to the cafeteria. I'll usually get the school lunch which isn't too bad. Maybe a sandwich or pasta with a fruit and vegetable. The chocolate milk is my favorite!After lunch is when we have gym class from 12:15 to 1pm. I'm really into sports so I look forward to gym a lot. We could be playing basketball, volleyball, running laps, or working on fitness exercises depending on the day. I get pretty sweaty but it feels good to get some physical activity in during the school day. The rest of the afternoon flies by with science lab from 1:05 to 1:50and then history from 1:55 until 3pm. I have to admit, by the end of the day I'm feeling pretty drained from concentrating so hard!The final bell rings at 3pm and that means... FREEDOM! At least for a few hours until I have homework to tend to later. A bunch of us always head over to the sports fields or basketball courts right after school though. We'll play pick-up games, hang out, or just mess around and be kids. Around 5pm, I'll start to head home, call my mom for a ride, or maybe walk if the weather is nice.Once I'm home, I'll grab a snack and get started on whatever homework I have for the night. My parents are pretty strict about me getting it all done before hopping on my phone or watching TV. Usually I'll have some math problems, maybe a writing assignment, reading to do for English, or worksheets for history or science. I'll work on it for a couple hours, take breaks when I need to, and then I'm finished by 7 or 8pm.After homework, I'm free to chill out! Sometimes I'll read, play videogames, or FaceTime my friends. If there are good shows on TV that night, I'll watch them with my family. Or in the summer, I may go outside and swim in our pool. My parents make me shower and then get ready for bed around 9:30 or 10.Before falling asleep, I'll put on some music, write in my journal, or scroll on my phone for a little bit.Then the cycle just repeats the next day! School, homework, activities, family time, friends, and just regular kid stuff. While it can be a lot to juggle with classes, assignments, sports, and everything else...I wouldn't have it any other way. This is my life as a 7th grader and I'm living it to the fullest!
