3.1.2 意译（Liberal Translation ）
由于思维习惯和语言表达的差异，原文的文化特色和 具体形象在译文中有时会难以保留，此时可采用意译，以 准确表达原文含义。

一）原文表达具有鲜明的民族和地方色彩，其具体形象或 含义无法为译入语读者所理解时（如习语、成语及典故）

直译（literal translation）: 在译入语许可的前提下， 既保持原文内容、又保留原文形式，包括选词用字、句法结 构、形象比喻及风格特征等方面。 意译（liberal translation）: 在原文的思想内容与译文 的语言表达形式有矛盾，不适合采用直译时，译文在正确表 达原文意义的同时，可以不拘泥于原文的形象特征、结构形 式或修辞手法等。

3.1 直译与意译(Literal & Liberal Translation)
直译与意译是翻译过程中表达阶段所采用的两种最基本 的方法。
3.1.1 直译（Literal Translation ）
当译文语言条件允许以类似原文的形式表达思想内
容，并能产生相同的效果时，在不违背译文语言规范、

Literal Translation 直译
1) 短语或习语的直译（Phrases and Idioms）
1 ） Once a year, when it comes time for tax returns, Americans find out how much of their income goes to Uncle Sam. 一年一度，所得税结帐时，美国人民就会知道他们的收入 中有多少是贡献给国家的。 2） This is a catch 22 situation. I can’t get a visa unless I have an air-ticket, and I can’t get an air-ticket unless I first have a visa! 这是一个使人无所适从的规定，我没有机票就不能获得签 证，而我没有获得签证便不能购得机票。
Liberal Translation 意译
在汉译英时，也可采用类似的方法来表达不为西方读者 所熟悉的意向或含义。 1）两岸同胞要加强交往，促进经济文化交流，继续拓展 领域、提高层次，推动直接“三通”。 The compatriots on both sides of the Straits need to increase contacts, promote economic and cultural exchanges in more areas and at higher levels and push for the resumption of direct links of mail, transport and trade. 2) 我过去受的那些委屈和刺激，比起他来，简直就是小 巫见大巫，算不了什么。 What little pain and adversity I’ve experienced so far are simply nothing compared to what he' s gone through.
