1. Historians such as Le Roy Ladurie have used the documents to extract case histories, which have illuminated the attitudes of different social groups and have revealed how the authorities administered justice.
Historians such as Le Roy Ladurie have used the documents to extract case histories, which have illuminated the attitudes of different social groups and have revealed how the authorities administered justice.2. If she defines feminist criticism as objective and scientific – a valid, verifiable, intellectual method that anyone, whether man or woman , can perform – the definition not only precludes the critic-as-artist approach, but may also impede accomplishment of the utilitarian political objectives of those who seek to change the academic establishment and its thinking, especially about sex roles.(4)假如她把女权主义文学评论定义为客观的和科学性的——一个有效的、可证明的、理性的、无论男女都可以使用的方法——那么,这个定义不仅将排挤掉批判家作为艺术家的方法,而且可能会阻碍那些寻求转变学术界的现状的及其思维,特殊是有关性别角色的思维的人们的有用主义的政治目标的成就。
If she defines feminist criticism as objective and scientific – a valid, verifiable, intellectual method that anyone, whether man or woman , can perform – the definition not only precludes thecritic-as-artist approach, but may also impede accomplishment of the utilitarian political objectives of those who seek to change the academic establishment and its thinking, especially about sex roles.

分析: 本句的主干为homelessness(主语)+ has reached(谓语)+ proportions(宾语)。

Although the passenger pigeons, now extinct, were abundant in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century America, archaeological studies at twelfth-century Cahokian sites in the present day United States examined household food trash and found that traces of passenger pigeon were quite rare. Given that the sites were close to a huge passenger pigeon roost documented by John James Audubon in the nineteenth century and that Cahokians consumed almost every other animal protein source available, (Q2)the archaeologists conducting the studies concluded the passenger pigeon population had once been very limited before increasing dramatically in post-Columbian America. Other archaeologists have criticized those conclusions on the grounds that passenger pigeon bones would not be likely to be preserved. But all the archaeological projects found plenty of bird bones- and even (Q1)tiny bones from fish. 1. The author of the passage mentions “tiny bones from fish” primarily in order to A. explain why traces of passenger pigeon are rare at Cahokian sites B. support a claim about the wide variety of animal proteins in the Cahokian diet C. provide evidence that confirms a theory about the extinction of the passenger pigeon D. cast doubt on the conclusion reached by the archaeologists who conducted the studies discussed in the passage E. counter an objection to an interpretation of the data obtained from Cahokian sites 2. Which of the following, if true, would most call into question the reasoning of “the archaeologists conducting the studies”? A. Audubon was unable to correctly identify twelfth-century Cahokian sites B. Audubon made his observations before passenger pigeon populations began to decline. C. Passenger pigeons would have been attracted to household food trash D. Archaeologist have found passenger pigeon remains among food waste at eighteenth-century human settlements E. GRE阅读制胜法则:长句、难句重磅解析1. Although these molecules allow radiation at visible wavelengths, where most of the energy of sunlight is concentrated,to pass through, they absorb some of the longer-wavelength,infrared emissions radiated from the Earths surface, radiation that would otherwise be transmitted back into space.
后面的分句中的最终一行radiation that would otherwise be transmitted back into space是其前面的infrared emissions的同位语。
其中的otherwise是副词作状语,表示假如后面的分句所说的they absorb some of the longer-waverlength, infrared emissions不发生时的后果。

If one begins by examining why ancients refer to Amazons , it becomes clear that ancient Greek descriptions of such societies were meant not so much to represent observed historical fact –real Amazonian societies – but rather to offer “moral lessons” on the supposed outcome of women’s rule in their own society . (4)
解释:有两个词汇需要先解释一下:something be meant to represent
是use something to mean的被动语态。
的意思是"的意思,而是表示做某事所表达的目的、意图,其英文释义为:to serve or intend to convey, show, or indicate。
句中的结构为:something be meant not so much to,,, but rather to, 实际上是把be meant to和not rather 的两个固定搭配套在一起,意思是:不是为了...
Thus, for instance,it may come as a shock to mathematicians to learn that the Schrodinger equation for the hydrogen atom is not a literally correct description of this atom, but only an approximation to a somewhat more correct equation taking account of spin, magnetic dipole, and relativistic effects;and that this corrected equation is itself only an imperfect approximation to an infinite set of quantum field-theoretical equations. (5)
Learn后面带着两个以that引导的宾语从句,中间以分号和and分开,可以把分号以后的句子看成是and it may come as a shock to mathematicians to learn that的省略形式。
