Thoughts on the Movie 'Gua Sha'"I just finished watching the movie 'Gua Sha', and boy, did it give mea lot to think about! The film tells the story of a Chinese family living in the United States Xu Datong, the protagonist, is a hardworking and successful video game designer He and his wife, Jian Ning, have a lovely son, Dennis One day, Dennis has a fever and stomachache Due to the traditional Chinese practice of gua sha that Jian Ning performs on him to relieve his discomfort, it leads to a series of misunderstandings and troublesThe scene that really stuck with me was when the child welfare agency took Dennis away from his parents The look of utter helplessness and despair on Xu Datong's face was heartwrenching You could see the pain in his eyes as he struggled to understand why something that was considered normal and beneficial in his culture was seen as harmful in this foreign land I mean, come on! All he wanted was to take care of his sick son the best way he knew howAnd then there's the courtroom drama The lawyers arguing back and forth, trying to prove whether gua sha was a form of child abuse or not It was so intense! I was sitting on the edge of my seat, feeling anxious for the family The cultural gap was so wide and deep, it seemed almost impossible to bridgeAnother aspect that really hit home was the relationship between Xu Datong and his father The respect and love they had for each other, despite the generation gap and the different circumstances they found themselves in, was truly touching When Xu's father came to visit from China and brought with him the traditional values and practices, it created a beautiful yet sometimes conflicting dynamic within the familyThe movie also made me think about how we often judge things based on our own limited perspectives We assume that what we know and believe is the only right way, without taking the time to understand and appreciate other cultures It's like we're all living in our little bubbles, thinking the world outside is wrong if it doesn't match our ownThe performances of the actors were amazing They really brought the characters to life and made me feel for them I could feel Xu Datong's frustration and confusion, Jian Ning's worry and determination, and the innocence of little Dennis caught in the middle of it allOverall, 'Gua Sha' was not just a movie; it was a powerful reminder of the importance of cultural understanding and acceptance It showed me that we should be more openminded and willing to learn about different ways of life, instead of being quick to condemn what we don't understand It made me realize that in this globalized world, we need to break down the barriers of ignorance and prejudice to build a more inclusive and harmonious societySo, that's my take on 'Gua Sha' It was a wild ride of emotions and a real eyeopener I'm glad I watched it and got to experience this thoughtprovoking story。

We have to laugh every day in life, and none of us know what happens in the next second of life.(页眉可删)刮痧电影观后感中英刮痧电影观后感中英1《刮痧》这部影片是一部很优秀的作品,感人至深,催人泪下。

After watching the movie "Gua Sha," I was struck by the powerful message it conveyed about traditional Chinese medicine and the healing power of human connection. The film follows the story of a young woman named Lin who is struggling with chronic pain and emotional trauma. Desperate for relief, she turns to a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who practices Gua Sha, a form of therapy that involves scraping the skin to promote blood flow and healing. At first skeptical, Lin gradually begins to experience the benefits of this ancient practice and finds solace in the compassionate care of her therapist. What struck me most about the film was the way it portrayed the importance of human connection in the healing process. Through the gentle touch of her therapist and the emotional support of her fellow patients, Lin is able to confront her pain and begin the journey towards healing. The film beautifully captures the transformative power of empathy and understanding, reminding us that true healing often comes from connecting with others on a deep and emotional level.Overall, "Gua Sha" is a poignant and thought-provoking film that highlights the ways in which traditional healing practices can provide both physical and emotional relief. It serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking out alternative forms of therapy and the power of human connection in overcoming pain and suffering.。

When I first saw this film’s name ,I considered it as a movie that told us something about Chinese traditional therapy treatment. However , after the movie , I realized guasha was just a symbol of the difference between Chinese culture and western culture , and there were many aspects we should have a deep consideration .At the beginning of the film , Xu Datong slaps his son Denis on his face before the cro wd , because Denis hit the son of Xu’s son and Xu just want to show the respect to his boss Quinlan , that time Quinlan feels puzzled and says“what a Chinese logic”. Of course , an American can never know a Chinese logic of interpersonal relationship which has been prolonged more than 2000 years . Chinese can wronged their children in order to maintain friendships and leader-member relation ,while American think everyone is equal and free .In addition , they can also never understand Chinese hit their children because of loving them . In America , people pay more attention to the right of children which can be seen from the law-beating children or leave them alone is illegal , but a Chinese old proverb says “ Spare the rod , spoil the child” .Another scene which makes me deliberate is that the lawyer vilifies Sun Wukong in A Journey to the West as a symbol of barbarism and violence in the court ,then Datong is enraged and then rushes to fight the lawyer . We all can know the reason ,because Sun Wukong is a hero on behalf of justice , representing Chinese traditional values and virtues .Guasha Treatment tells us that the key to avoid the conflict of different cultures is mutual understanding and tolerance.Great Culture difference between China and America【二】After I saw the film Guasha, I was astonished by the great different culture between China and America. In fact, we should find many interesting things in the conflict of these two nations. In Xu Datong’s family, his son Dennis is totally accepted the American culture. Datong and his wife know American rules and their way of thinking, but the still keep many Chinese habitats and Chinese thoughts. Datong’s father, however, is totally a Chinese. He didn’t know American rules at all even he is profound in China. We can see that after Dennis fight with the son of Datong’s boss, Datong hit Dennis. It’s totally a Chinese’s way. American don’t hit their child or they think it’s a kind of mistreat. Obviously, this action became one the proof that Datong mistreated Dennis when they were in the court. John acknowledged that Datong used to hit Dennis. He told truth but Datong was crazy about John “betrayed” him. Here is another aspect. In Chinese’s mind, friends should always help him even tell lie for him, while Americans distinct friendship and justice clearly. They wouldn’t tell lie in the court. After Datong lost, he vented his angry on John and want to resign for his self-respect. Because Chinese always treat “face” very important. Next the most interesting conflict appeared, Datong and John argued about why he hit Dennis. Datong said that he hit Dennis to show his respect to John, to save his face. John confused and cried what kind of twisted Chinese logic! Maybe it’s the most different thing between Chinese and American which Americans would never realize.Another point is in the court, Datong called John to be his lawyer. John thought it’s not comfortable because he is an interlecture property lawyer. He suggested Datong to find a qualified one. But Datong said John is his best friend and best lawyer, he should know how Datong love his son and John should surely help him. Here is one point. When somebody in the trouble, Chinese always find friends first whether he is professional or not. Friends would certainly he lp him. But Americans think that it’s better to find a stranger who can truly help him, rather than a good friend but can’t help him. Another point is after John told Datong he was not a family lawyer, but an interlecture property lawyer, Datong said that Dennis was his best creation, so it’s in John’s field. Actually, many Chinese hold the thought that child is parents’ property. They created their children and give birth to their children, so they can do everything to him, even hit them. However, Americans do not think so. From their perspective, children are equal to adults. They are not parents’ property. So they would never say the same thing as Datong. There are countless aspects show the difference between Chinese and American, such as logic, habitat, the way of thinking and act. We can see a lot of typical examples in Guasha. As a English major, I should learn more about intercultural communication between Chinese and American. Acceptance of their logic is a important way to learn English.。

1It's about assimilation into American culture, and not assimilation in an ”International” city, like SF or NY or LA or Chicago, but St. Louis, MO (actually shot there). Really great acting, interesting story.Gua Sha is a treatment in traditional oriental medicine in which a wooden board repeatedly slides across the patient's acupuncture acupressure massage points. It works in similar principles like that of acupuncture acupressure massage. This method would inevitably leave bruise on the skin, and the story begins here, when the visiting grandpa who does not speak any English used this traditional practice to treat the grandson when both son and daughter-in-law were at work.Sadly, in US, this is a story that repeats itself many times in the area where many oriental immigrants lives and all of these are due to simple misunderstanding between cultures.Gua Sha: Step-by-Step, by Arya Nielsen. If an acupuncturist is trained in Classical Chinese medicine, they will do this technique in their practice for pain, and for acute or chronic illness. 2Gua Sha is a movie about the differences between American and Chinese culture. Xu datong is a video games designer in St. Louis. When his father visits from China, he performs Gua Sha (a Chinese traditional treatment) on his grandson, which leaves bright red marks on the skin and causes a lawsuit of child abuse. In the court, Datong loses his mind so that finally he loses custody of his son.I think this scene is shocking and thought-provoking to most of the Chinese audiences. But the most impressing scene to me is the ending. Datong wants to see his son in Christmas eve, he has to climb a pipe to the ninth floor which his son lives. I think the pipe is not only a pipe, but also a gap, a deep gap between American and 5000-year Chinese culture. He wants to climb over the gap and he will never succeed, perhaps no Chinese people really could succeed. 3Gua Sha is a movie about the differences between American and Chinese culture. Da Tong's failures show his confusion about the differences between his original Chinese culture and his new American home. Even within his family there is conflict because Grandfather can't speak English and is excluded from many conversations because Mother(Wenli Jiang)wants only English spoken in her home for the benefit of her American born son. Da T ong and his wife are very well educated and understand that their child's best chances for succein America, and for him not to experience the same troubles they've had during the past 8 years, are to speak without an accent. They even go so far as to insist the boy use a fork and knife instead of chopsticks, even when it's obvious they are still eating Chinese style food, served in the normal way: communal dishes for the food and smaller, individual rice bowls for each person. Mother seems a bit inflexible in her insistence on being as American as possible, while Da Tong's cultural leanings are just as strongly Chinese, although not by conscious choice.Da Tong's love for his son is tested severely when Da Tong tries to balance it against respect for his boss. When Da Tong's son hits his boss' son, Da Tong insists on an apology that seems unnecessary and makes Da Tong look stubborn and uncaring. Da Tong gives his boy a light rap on the head when he refuses to apologize and the boy cries to his mother that the reason he hit his playmate was that the other boy called Da Tong stupid, one of many examples of doing the wrong thing to protect your family. The conflict arising from doing the wrong thing out of loveor respect for one's family or closest friends continues throughout the movie, and every way Da Tong turns, he finds failure and encounters both obvious and subtle forms of anti-Chinese racism.Even Chinese folklore about the Monkey King, Sun Wu Kong, that Da Tong incorporates into a video game he designed is used to provoke his pride when he's vulnerable and fearing for the loof his son. Da Tong is misunderstood by everyone, family, friend, and foe, even though he has only the best intentions, and he carries the responsibility quite heavily, ma-ki-ng one wrong turn after another.Gua Sha (Motivational model ) shows how a person's cultural beliefs are so deeply set within oneself that it is usually impossible to examine why you do most anything, from how you dreand talk to whom you love and respect and how you show it. The invisible nature of one's cultural beliefs also makes it difficult to impossible to explain yourself to others when questioned. Da Tong experiences an excruciatingly painful and difficult struggle while trying to protect his son, an ordeal that forces him to examine the validity of some of the most vital things he thought he knew about his identity, his Chinese culture, and the new American world he'd chosen as his home. The movie showed me how normal it is for people to look for ways that their culture is superior to others' and how the misunderstandings arising from different cultural perspectives can seem very large, but can be nullified with si-mp-le, 2-sided explanations when people are willing to listen. It appears this film is not readily available in the USA, but it's the best I've seen at highlighting the differences between American and Chinese culture. Parts of the movie's dialog areonly in Chinese and I've yet to find a DVD with English subtitles, although it's easy to get the gist of what's going on during those short passages. The credits are a combination of Chinese and English, holding true to the integration of both worlds. I've noticed some important roles are not credited here on IMDb, such as Judge Horowitz, who was played by Alexander Barton. 5Whe n I first saw this film’s name ,I considered it as a movie that told us something about Chinese traditional therapy treatment.

I was moved a lot after seeing the movie Guahsa. But putting away the moving plot,I think the film is trying to tell us someting about the misunderstandings and failures in crosscultural communication between Chinese and American people.Firstly, let's talk about Guasha. It is a popular folk treatment for certain illnesses by scraping the forehead, neck, and chest and back of the patient to cause congestion in the skin vessels to alleviate pain or inflammation in China. In this film, it re presented the traditional Chinese medical skills. But American doctor’s didn’t approve of it, because western medicine believes the experiments, they thought that Guasha Treatment wasn’t based on science. So, in the film, when the doctor found the bright red marks on the child’s back, they all considered that it was unacceptable. The next difference is the perception towards "mianzi". Xu was a Chinese immigrant in America, and he had been there for eight years. He had accepted many behaviors and views in American way, meanwhile, the traditional Chinese thoughts and values wre rooted in his mind deeply. In the film,Datong explained that he hit Denis because he wanted to give Mr.Quinlin “mianzi” while Mr.Quinlin thought that he shouldn’t hit Denis. But in American, people care more about facts rather than face. The third difference is Childhood Education. In China, it’s common for parents to hit the child if the child is naughty or do something wrong. They think that “I hit you because I love you” and they can tea ch and train their children according to their will.Chinese people take their children as part of their private property, the younger shouldn’t oppose to the older, because there’re strict ranks in the family. In America, children are independent and free. Parents need to educate them wisely and rationally rather than hit them. Certainly, parents should respect them and give their the rights to select their own futures. The fourth difference is the attitude towards friends. In the movie, Datong’s boss, and also his good friend, Mr.Quinlin, went to the court to be a witness to say something bad about Datong, Datong could not understand, he always treated Mr.Quinlin as a good friend, and he thought that Mr.Quinlin would help him, butthings turned out different ly. At last, he quit the job, because he didn’t want to work with someone who didn’t support him.But in American ,they tend to help their friends based on facts rather than affection.Lastly, I think "family love " between the two countries is quite different. American usually set up a series of laws and build up children"s welfare institution to protect our kids. But they seem to care less of the family love.It occur to me that when Datong's friend asked why Datong didn't tell the trueth that it was his father who did Guasha for little Daniel on the court, the Chinese woman said:''Because he is a Chinese!" Chinese awalys try their best to care and protect the olds and youngs and show greatest love for their family. Those are the main cultural conflicts in the movie. Therefore, we can say that the more we konw the differences in various culture, the better we could understand and respect people from different countries or backgrounds .。

As a viewer, I had the pleasure of watching the Chinese film "Guasha" or "Scraping" directed by Xu Zhanxiong. This film tells the story of a father and son who own a guasha clinic but struggle to keep it running due to financial difficulties and their estranged relationship. The father passes on his guasha skills to a young apprentice, who also becomes a vital character in the film. The film’s structure is simple but effective. It begins with a brief introduction of the characters and their daily lives, then the story continues to explore their circumstances and delves deeper into their relationships with one another. The climax of the story comes when the father is diagnosed with a serious illness. This event forces the father and son to confront their past and present issues as they attempt to salvage their relationship and the guasha clinic.I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of emotion and depth in each of the characters. As their stories unfolded, I found myself empathizing with each of them and was invested in their journeys. The film perfectly captured the complexities of family relationships and the importance of communication and understanding. The film also employs strong visual elements such as the beautiful scenery of rural China, the use of natural light, andwell-choreographed guasha scenes that are accompanied by soothing music. Every frame of the film is aesthetically pleasing, and it adds to the overall message of the film - the beauty of traditional Chinese healing practices and their importance in modern medicine. One of the most memorable moments of the movie was when the father said, "Guasha can cure more than just a cold or a fever." This resonated with me, and I felt that the film provided an opportunity to showcase the benefits of traditional medicine that are often overlooked. As I reflected on the film, I thought about my own relationship with my family and how a lack of communication and understanding can cause misunderstandings and rifts. It reminded me of the importance of taking the time to listen and communicate with each other. In conclusion, "Guasha" is a beautifully crafted film that captures the essence of traditional Chinese medicine, family relationships, and human connections. The excellent characters and music, coupled with the picturesque scenery, create an unforgettable cinematic experience. The film provides a reminder of the importance of preserving traditional practices in the rapidly changing world of modern medicine.。
