骆家辉:超越眼前的挑战:挑战突破自己的句子编者按：前不久，在清华-布鲁金斯研究中心五周年的庆祝晚宴上，美国驻华大使骆家辉面向在座的中美两国官员、知名学者与企业界人士，发表了约20分钟的演讲，对涉及中国企业赴美投资、高科技产品对华出口和美国的签证政策有一些说法。

但40年前，人们同样未必能够想象到，中国国家主席和美国总统能够在3年的时间里会面超过10次，抑或是我们两国能够为政府、政党和军事间的经常性协商，建立起超过60个不同的平台。
当美国前总统尼克松在1972年历史性地访华时，双边贸易额还不到1亿美元。
那时谷物是美国对中国的第一大出口货物，而中国对美国出口最多的是调料和动物制品。
当时，双方各自市场的双向投资几乎为零。
在美国，只有屈指可数的工作岗位依赖于与中国的贸易，几乎也没有中国大陆学生在美国留学。
但是现在，每天都有价值超过10亿美元的商品和服务在两国间往来。
现今，中国对美出口最多的是设备和机械；而农产品、航空制造和电子产品则在美国对华出口中名列前茅。
在美国，出口中国的产品和服务支持着80万个工作岗位，而中国也有更多的就业岗位维系于对美贸易。
2010年，美国对中国出口首次超过1000亿美元，较2009年上升了33个百分点，延续着过去十年里指数式增长的趋势。
2011年美国对中国近220亿美元的农业出口，不仅巩固了美国中心地带那些农业区的繁荣，同样也帮助了中国缓解其通货膨胀，并确保粮食安全。

I'll let you know that shortly I'll be traveling to Guangzhou, and during that visit I'll also have the opportunity to visit our ancestral village or "Laojia". It's our first time visiting the family village, meeting with relatives since becoming ambassador and arriving here in China. I'm specially pleased to be traveling to Guangzhou and Guangdong province because it is the land of my ancestors. And indeed southern China is really the source of the early immigrants from China to the United States. It was the early Chinese from that part of China that worked on the transcontinental railroads in the United States, worked in the gold mines, the lumber camps, the coalmines and then became merchants throughout many of the cities. Chinese Americans have really contributed incredibly to the success and prosperity of America. Serving as the U.S. Ambassador to China has been the honor of a lifetime.I am profoundly grateful to President Obama for providing me the opportunity to serve as his representative in Beijing these past two and a half years – and to be the first Chinese-American to hold this position. Helping1 manage one of the most vitally important bilateral2 relationships for the United States, with so many critical American interests at stake, has been an immense and rewarding challenge. And living in China while representing the United States has truly been an exciting privilege for our entire family.担任驻华大使是我一生的荣耀，我非常感谢总统奥巴马给予我到北京履职的机会。

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China. In the last few decades, hundreds of millions of Chinese have joined the global middle class as China has become a destination for capital, for ideas and for innovation.今年是中华人民共和国成立60周年。

And one of the best illustrations of this transformation is China's burgeoning trade relationship with the United States. We are one another's second-biggest trading partners. In the past 20 years, U.S. exports to China have increased by a factor of 12; while U.S. imports from China have increased almost 30-fold. and there’s hardly anyone we could be sending who has a reputation for workingas hard as gary locke. i’ve known gary a long time, and some of you have known himeven longer, and you know that he has the reputation of being an extraordinarily hardworker. when he was a state representative, a seattle newspaper once called him,and i quote, “the man who mistook his life for the legislature.” (laughter.) butthat was before mona. 信息的自由流通还对改善治理，特别是打击腐败祸患至关重要。我对普通中国公民在过去几年中利用因特网举报涉嫌的腐败事件印象特别深刻。在美国，我们也通过要求政府官员每年公开申报其资产来打击贪污行为。要求必须提供这一信息使收贿受贿和其他腐败行为更难以藏匿。

I also want to thank Chairman Tsujimura and the President of the Association, Ned Schultz, for the invitation to speak to all of you. It’s great to know that we have such strong partnerships between the East West Center with Peking University. Beida is actually enjoying its first day of the school year and some 35,000 students are flooding this campus and the associated campus, and it’s great to see the parents and the students here. Beida has such a great history of education and educating and turning out the future business and government leaders of China and indeed the world.我也要感谢苏吉母拉主席和协会会长埃德·舒尔茨邀请我给大家讲话。
