Invisible strengthI.IntroductionIn modern society, everybody is pursuing his or her own dreams. Life is difficult navigation will not be plain sailing; people cannot achieve their goals without any failure. Some people think of themselves as fools and lose heart in everything after they meet failure. Other people are quite different: they will continue fighting and fighting, and meet with success in the end. One of the major factors to cause the difference is people who realize their dreams having their own spiritual support. After watching the film Forrest Gump, I am increasingly aware of the importance of the spiritual support. Forrest’s spiritual support is closely linked to kinship, friendship and love and this kind of invisible strength is crucial factor in the process of his success.Forrest Gump comes from single-parent family in Greenbow, Alabama and his mother makes a living mainly by providing accommodation for people who pass through. Unfortunately, Forrest is born with strong legs but a crooked spine and he has to wear leg braces which make walking difficult and running near impossible. What’s more, he has a relatively low IQ of 75 which causes him to be refused by public school. In the eyes of others, Forrest is stupid. But his mother tells him not to let anyone tell him he is different, telling him “stupid is as stupid does’’. Forrest enters the primary school through his mother’s effort. However, in an accident, he finds his own talent in running. And then, he becomes a football star when he studies in university. After graduating from university, Forrest joins in the Vietnam War and wins medals for his military exploits. He plays an excellent game of table tennis and becomes one of the first Americans to visit the land of China. To accomplish the will of his friend, who dies in the war, Forrest goes to the Golf Coast and uses all his money to buy a shrimp boat. Helped by his former Vietnam superior Lt. Dan, Forrest accidentally earns a lot of money from his shrimp business becoming a billionaire in the end. Forrest is a fortunate person. He loves his life, cherishes his kinship, friendship and love and eventually, Forrest gets what he deserves.II.Interpersonal relationship2.1KinshipForrest’s suc cess is largely due to the efforts of his mother who teaches him the ways of life and leaves him to choose his destiny. When Forrest is very young, his back is crooked. So he has a problem to walk steadily. The doctor says he is a little different because his IQ is only 75 which is below the normal IQ standard. But his mother tells him that he is no different with anybody else is. She never looks down upon him, as well as gives him her all love. “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're goanna get. ” She teaches Forrest how to live in the world and use another way to explain the world, thus Forrest says: “My mama always had a way of explaining things so I could understand them.”Surrounded by mother’s love, Forrest experiences his hard childhood. Whenever he meets difficulty, he always remembers mother’s encouragement. “You are no different than anybody else is.” He runs through college on a football scholarship. He runs through the flame and smoke of war in Vietnam and is awarded a congressional medal of honor. After quitting the army, Forrest begins the shrimp business to fulfill Bubba’s wishes and he achieves success in the end. When he hears that his mother is seriously ill, he returns home to spend her remaining time with him. Forrest’s mother in bed talks to Forrest: “It's my time. It's just my time. Oh, now, don't you be afraid of sweetheart. Death is just a part of life, something we're all destined to do. I didn't know it. But I was destined to be your momma. I did the best I could. Well…I happen to believe you make your own destiny. You have to do the best with what God gave you.” Forrest loves his mother and does let her down.Nowadays, there is only one child in most families and parents draw their attention to the only child and try their best to take care of child. Many parents are willing to do anything to make sure that their child lives a good life. But the relationship between children and parents are not so good in many families. Is the generation gap that causes problem or other factors? Parents and children should have mutual understanding and respect. They make more communications and understandeach other. Parents learn to listen to children’s ideas and respect their own choices rather than decide everything for the children. Children listen to their parents' advice instead of going their own way. The relationship between parents and children will become better and better.2.2FriendshipFriendship also plays an important role in Forrest’s success. To some extent, Forrest’s s uccess belongs to his friend Bubba. Forrest joins the army for service in Vietnam where he meets his best friend Bubba, a young black soldier, who talks of nothing but his family shrimp business, and convinces Forrest to go into the business with him when the war is over, splitting everything right down the middle. He also meets Lt. Dan who is Forrest and Bubba's commanding officer. After losing legs, Dan is decadent and disgusts with life, complaining that Forrest should not save him. He says that his fate is death in war, falling into a deep depression.Forrest is intense loyalty to his friendship with Bubba and Lieutenant Dan. There are two scenes leaving me a deep impression. During the war, Bubba and Forrest sit back against back in the heavy rain talking about shrimp. Bubba says he have already got a plan to start shrimp business after the war and invites Forrest to join. They do like brothers and stuff. One day in the army, soldiers get an ambush and some of them are killed or injured. When Bubba tells him to run away, he runs and far away. Then he feels that Bubba is missing. Without hesitation, Forrest just goes back to find him. On the way to find Bubba, he saves some of his platoon, including his platoon leader. Forrest repeatedly returns to the front line disregarding her own safety to save his platoon members and carry them to safety. Unfortunately, Bubba is badly hurt and dying. After short conversation, Forrest loses his best friend. In order to realize Bubba’s only goal, Forrest starts a shrimp business at the Golf Coast after leaving the army. And then, under the help of his former Vietnam superior Lt. Dan, Forrest accidentally earns a lot of money from his shrimp business .He follows up on Bubba’s plans and gives Bubba’s mother her share. Lt. Dan ultimately forgives Forrest for his actions in Vietnam and thanks him for saving his life in the end.We need a lot of friends and we have a lot of friends as well. It has been said that Love is a lamp, while friendship is the shadow. When the lamp is off, you will find the shadow everywhere. Friend is who can give you strength at last. But usually only when we get into trouble, will we know what the true friendship is. A true friendis someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart. If one of our friends betrays friendship for benefits, we will feel very sad. Treasure is not always a friend, but a friend is always a treasure. Friendship is so important for us, which brings fullness to life .The true friendship does not dope any impurity, does not have the price to be possible to say. It is worth cherishing every friendship we get.2.3Love“Run, Forrest, Run!” I will never forget this shout coming from Jenny, who is Forrest's most important friend from early childhood remaining his friend for over 35 years despite the very different fate they meet. Sometimes, I feel confusion about their love but I am still deep moved. From the day they meet in the school bus on, they are always together like peas and carrots. “If you are ever in trouble, don’t try to be brave, just run, just run away.” For Jenny’s encouragement, Forrest constant challenges, beyond him. “I’m not a smart man, but I know what love is.” Forrest is always caring about Jenny .He gives his medal to Jenny, fights for Jenny, and names all his shrimp boats “Jenny”. As for Forrest, Jenny is his angel, and the time spent with Jenny is the happiest in his life. No matter where he is, he misses Jenny and hopes she will be happy all the time. In the end of the film, Jenny dies from an unknown virus. In front of Jenny’s grave, Forrest talks softly: “I miss you, Jenny. If there is anything you need, I won’t be far away. ”From ancient times till now, love always receives eulogium from people. Some says that love is like a butterfly. It goes where it pleases and it pleases where it goes. Some describes Love is a spirit all compact of fire. Love means trust, respect, responsibility and other beautiful things which decorate our life more colorful. III．ConclusionForrest Gump is unfortunately to be born with a lower IQ and a crooked spine. When I am watching the movie, I complain the unfair fate for Forrest. But, he is a fortunate man to be proved in the end because he has spiritual support that comes from kinship, friendship and love and guide him to the success. Under the influence of his mother, Forrest knows “Stupid is as stupid does” and makes his own destiny.Because of Bubba, Forrest realizes that we each have a destiny and hebecomes a man of his word. When Forrest claims that “There is only so much of fortune a man re ally needs and the rest is just for showing off.”, he is no longer a man without understanding of the life. He has his own perseverance and pursues his own happiness. Eventually, he marries Jenny and becomes a father. Kinship, friendship and love give us a kind of invisible strength, which let us know the most valuable thing in life. Cherishing everything that we have already possessed, or else, we will find that how important it is when we lose it. Don't wait to lose something, to regret the loss.。
