How much do you know about your neighborhood? Can you recognize your neighbors? faces? Teenagers from Live

Oak in California, US would say yes. They took photos of their neighbors and put them on city walls.

The kids took part in an international photography experiment called the Inside Out Project. It calls on (号召) people

around the world to take black and white photos to discover and share something about where they live. People can upload

pictures to the project?s website. Large prints are then made and sent back to people to show in their communities.

In Live Oak, you see big pictures on the walls of an art studio (工作室) and a supermarket. Nicholas Gonzalez?s work covered most of one wall. The 13-year-old took a photo of an elderly Latino man.

said 13-year-old Casey Sustaitapaz. “Ni cholas took that picture right outside the “We call him ,The Superman?,”

supermarket down the street called ,Super?.”

“It?s been really great,” said Sustaitapaz. “We?ve gotten to learn a lot about our community and meet people met before.”

Dyana Aquilera, 13, a student at Mission Hill Middle School, learned about the project through her mom and wanted to

take part.

“I really like being a part of something so big,” she said.

Greg Stein is the headmaster of Shoreline Middle School. He also attended the event and said he wanted to start a

similar program at his school.

Stein said. “This would really bring a lot of flavor (风味) and life to the “Live O ak needs some beautification,”

neighborhood.”

Passage 2

Dear Mr and Mrs Green,

Thank you for voicing your concerns (关心) about your daughter, Amelia Green, and the lunch menu at our school. As

the schoolmaster of the school, I am always happy to hear any thoughts you might have about your daughter?s educational experience.

You say in your letter that you do not believe that the cafeteria offers enough healthy options (选择). You also mention

that you would like us to monitor what your daughter buys from the school cafeteria. Unfortunately, I do not believe the

school can meet your demands.

First, regarding the health of school lunches, I must say that there are many healthy options available to students. This

week, for example, some of our options included salad, pasta and noodles.

Second, for a monitoring system (监控系统) in the school, I do not think that this measure (措施) is within the school?s budget (预算). We also do not have enough workers to monitor your child at lunchtime. It might be possible in the

future, but now we focus on improving teaching buildings. We will, however, keep your suggestion in mind.

I would greatly enjoy the chance to meet with you and discuss these options further. I certainly understand your concerns, and I would like to have the opportunity to relieve (减轻) any worries you might have about the cafeteria in our

school.

Please call my office at 555-555-5555 to set up a meeting or to discuss these issues over the phone.
