1. T: What do you want to be when you grow up?
2. T: Today, let’s look into the future together.
Step 2 Do Exercise
1. T: The stud ents in Ms. Cox’s class are talking about their plans
for the future. How many jobs can you find?
Step 3 Speaking
1. Teacher shows them the jobs they find. And then have a
discussion with them:
What does a cook do?
What does a painter do?
What does a pilot do?
What does an engineer do?
2. The teacher tells them: A cook can also create new dishes. A
pilot can fly a plane. An engineer can invent new things.
3. Teacher shows them the first picture and asks what he does to
learn the new words: boss, manage. The same way to learn
astronaut.
4. Then show them a dialogue. Encourage the
students to practice the dialogue in pairs.
5. Check the dialogue. After a pair show, ask others what he or she
wants to be. And make others answer.
6. T: Here are some job words, can you find them out? Please find
the job words in the box.
7. Show the students some sentences to help them to tell their
dreams.
Step 4 Fast Reading
T: Now I know about your dreams. Let’s read and find out Jenny and Brian’s ideas for choosing a job. Please read th e dialogue and answer the questions.
Step 5 Detail Reading
1. Now we know the students in Ms Cox’s class are talking about their plans for the futu re. Let’s know about their future lives. Please read the dialogue and fill in the table. What do they want to be when they grow up and why? What would they do in the future?
2. Help the students check the answers and retell it.
3. Help them to understand the sentences: I would invent things that help improve the environment. Maybe he could invent a solar—powered plane.
T: What are the things that help improve the environment? Plastic bags? Cars?
T: What would Steven invent?
4. Show them a picture of a solar—powered plane. T: It can get energy from the sun, not the coal or oil. What other solar—powered things could he invent?
Tell them they are the things that help improve the environment.
5. T: What does Kate want to be?
6. Ask some students to retell.
7. Tell them to do exercise 1 in Let’s do it.
Step 6
Speaking about future lives1. T: Do you agree with Jenny?

doubt意为“怀疑；不相信”，既可用作名词，也可用作动词。 doubt用作名词时，常用于句型“There is no doubt + that引导的从 句”，意为“毫无疑问……”。 e.g. There is no doubt that we will win the match. 毫无疑问我们会赢得这场比赛。 doubt用作及物动词时，后面可跟名词、代词和从句等。 e.g. —Why do you doubt his words? —I doubt him because he often cheats us. —你为什么怀疑他说的话？ —因为他经常骗我们，所以我才怀疑他。
在否定句和疑问句中，doubt后多跟由 that 引导的从句。 e.g. We don’t doubt that he can come on time. 我们毫不怀疑他能准时来。 Do you doubt that he will give up the game? 你怀疑他会放弃这场比赛吗？
