That was until a couple of weeks ago, when my kids gave me a present thatblew me away. For years now, I’ve been wanting to sell our home, the place where my husband and I raised our kids. But to me, this house is much more than just a building. In the front room, there’s a wall that has hundreds of pencil lines, marking the progress of my children’s growth. Every growth stage is marked in grey, with each child’s name and the date they were measured. Of all the objects and all the memories, it’s this one thing in a home that’s the hardest to leave behind. Friends I know have returned home after work only to discover their wall of heights has been freshly painted over. A new paint job wouldn’t normally be greeted by tears, but erasing that evidence of motherhood hurts more than it should. Our kids grow in so many ways, but the wall is physical evidence of their progress, right there for everyone to see. Over the years, I’ve talked about how much I would hate leaving that wall behind when I moved, even though the last marks were made 10 years ago when my kids stopped growing. So one day, while I was at work, my childrendecided to do something about it.They hired Jacquie Manning, a professional photographer whose work is about capturing (捕捉) the beautiful things in life, from clear lakes and skies to diamonds and ballgowns (舞会礼服).She came to our house while I was at work, and over several hours, took photos of the hundreds of drawings andlines, little grey fingerprints (手印), and old marks. Somehow, she managed to photograph all those years of memories perfectly. Afterwards, she put all the photos together into one image, transforming them into a beautiful history of my family.Three weeks later, my children’s wonderful gift made its way to me—a life-size photo of the pencil lines and fingerprints that represents entire lifetimes of love and growth.4. A Family HistoryCAbout 12 years ago, Sandy Cambron noticed her mother, Pearl Walker, had become quiet after she moved into a nursing home for patients of Alzheimer's disease inKentucky.“We tried everything — photos, old stories — but nothing worked,” she said. “It was really hard for everyone to see how she had changed.” Then one day whileSandywas in a toy store, she had an idea: Why not givePearla baby doll so she could feel as if she were caring for something again? And why not give one to all the other care center seniors? As soon asSandygavePearlthe doll, her mother's face lit up. “She started talking again and she never went anywhere without that baby,”Sandysaid. “She took 'baby' to the dining room with her and slept with her in herarms every night. When she passed away a year later, we even buried her with that well-loved baby doll.”In the following 10 years, Sandy and her husband, Wayne Cambron, continued to buy dolls and hand them out to the elderly of care centers near their home every New Year. Now Pearl's Memory Babies is anonprofit (非营利) organization that has contributed more than 300 dolls to old people with Alzheimer's disease at nursing homes since February 2018.Last year,Sandyposted New Year’s photos on Facebook, all of which are about seniors reacting to dolls thatshe and Wayne sent to a local nursing home. The post was shared more than 210,000 times overnight. People gave almost $15,000 online. That helped the group buy many dolls.“The dolls offer treatment and comfort,” said Elise Hinchman, who works at a care center inKentucky, "Some seniors cry when they get a doll. And they always rock and talk to their dolls. People with Alzheimer might lose their memories, but they don't lose their ability to love.”8. How did Pearl change after she moved to a nursing home?A. She'd enjoyed an ambitious travel schedule for the previous decade. She didn't feel too old to travel.Yet many people are asking that slightly embarrassing question: Can you be too old to travel? The travel industry has already responded. Try renting a car inEurope, for example. InCroatia, Schaefer wouldn't be able to this year, because the maximum age is 70. Insurance companies require higher rates; tour operators limit certain activities. That feels like a " no" for many travelers.Definitely some folks should think twice before traveling, but not only based on their age. It's their level of fitness, says Kirsten Veldman, a former tour guide who now edits a retirement blog. She recalls a 93-year-old who was disabled and traveling alone on aCaribbeantour. "You can't expect to ask a tour leader to be there for you 24/7 for medical care. " she says. "Tour guides don't have the time, skills, and knowledge for it. So, in this case, my advice is: he shouldn't have traveled with us in this situation. "But some tour operators serve older travelers. For example, Grand Circle Travel started in 1958 to serve senior members. “We have travelers into their 80s and even 90s. Some travel as a couple and some alone,” says company spokeswoman Ann Shannon. “We have no age limit.”If you ask travel experts, they'll tell you that age is just a number. It's a question of physical, and to a certain extent, mental ability. "Many of our travelers are retired, focused on keeping their good health, and are experienced travelers who have a good idea of what to expect, "says Sara Baer-Sinnott, president of Oldways, a food and nutrition nonprofit that operates tours. "Someone in their 40's may struggle more than someone in their 80s. "12. What is expected if Schaefer travels inCroatiathis year?A. She can rent a car to go around.B. She has to pay more insurance fees.C. She can join in all kinds of activities.D. She will receive 24/7 medical care.13. What caused Veldman to disapprove of the 93-year-old's traveling?A. His old age.B. His lack of money.C. His poor health.D. His in sociable personality.14. What do we know about Grand Circle Travel?A. It is a non-profit traveling organization.B. Newspaper companies are losing advertisers, readers, market value, and in some cases, their sense of purpose at a speed that would not havebeen imaginable just several years ago. The chief editor of the Times said recently, "At placeswhere they gather, editors ask one another, ‘How are you?’, as if they have just come out of thehospital or a lost law case." An article about the newspaper appeared on the website of the Guardian, under the headline "NOT DEAD YET."Perhaps not, but the rise of the Internet, which has made the daily newspaper look slow andout of step with the world, has brought about a real sense of death. Examples included taking printer paper from work and not telling asalesperson when he or she gave back more change. Students from higher-class families weremore likely to act dishonestly.According to the scientists, rich people often think money can get them out of trouble.

People’s ________ for bicycles may reflect public dissatisfaction with bus services.A.insistenceB. allowanceC. preferenceD. reference正如蒋园芬(宁波中学高三英语备课组长)所说,在高三复习阶段要“重点做一些精练的语境化、综合化、干扰性强的练习,注重用词的准确性,多翻字典,多体会例句。

26 (68.7%) …but the son decided to ___B____ there.A.figure out B.hold on C.turn up D.break up题27 (53.2%) William never missed a practice all __C___ high school, but remained a “bench-warmer”.A. atB. acrossC. throughD.within题29 (62.1%) the boy read it and becam e completely __B___.A. thankfulB. silentC. interestedD.lost题32 (77.4%)Saturday arrived, and the game was not _B__ well.A.runningB.goingC.endingD.planning题33 (61.9%)the team was two points __D____.A. aheadB. awayC. belowD.behind原因分析:(1)学生词汇贫瘠,缺乏对词汇意义的掌握。

如27题中all through high school 学生看到high school就想到at high school;(3) 学生对词汇的本质概念和用法掌握不到位。

2.语法题24 (65.8%)However, Dad continued to encourage him but also made ___D__ very clear th at he didn’t _have__ to play football if he didn’t want to .A. thisB. himC. himselfD.it原因分析:学生基本语法结构掌握不到位,在平时学习中忽视语法的巩固学习。

21(82.1%) __D_William was always “warming the bench” in his primary school, Das was always in the stands cheering and never _missed_a football game.A. In caseB.Only ifC.Now thatD.Even though题23(80.3%)William was __A___ the smallest of the class in high school.A. stillB. yetC. alsoD.even题25(70.7%) …made it clear that he didn’t __D_ to play football if he didn’t want to …A. startB. tryC.dareD. have题30(81.5%)William never missed a practice all through high school…“Is it ok if I miss the ___ today?”the coach replied gently, “take the rest of t he week _off_, son, and don’t even plan to come to the game on Saturday.”A.courseB.opportunityC. matchD.practice题36(78.5%) There was no way he wanted his _D__ player in this close game.A. ugliestB. bravestC. youngestD. worst原因分析:(1)学生忽略句子前后信息联系。

21题由于没有把握“warming the bench”和“was always in the stands cheering”关系,25题由于没抓住made it very clear 和if he didn’t want to 来解题,导致错误选择。

William was still the smallest of the class.
