butterfly [5bQtEflai] n.蝴蝶；蝶泳；举止轻浮的人v.蝶泳例：She is a real social butterfly．她真是个交际花。

currency [5kQrEnsi] n. 通货，货币；通行，流通例：It attracts hot money into the country to finance the current account deficit because investors perceive no currency risk．它吸引大量短期流动资金流人这个国家为经常项目赤字注资，因为投资者认为完全不会有货币动荡的风险。

donkey [5dCNki] n.驴,笨蛋, 顽固者, [美](1874年以后)民主党的象征(=donkey engine)轻便发动机, (=donkey pump)辅助泵例：With a few loud whistles，they drove the donkeys out of the enclosure．随着几声响亮的口哨，他们把驴赶出了围栏。

crazy [5kreizi] a.荒唐的，古怪的，发疯的；（about）狂热爱好的，着迷的like crazy/mad 疯狂的，拼命的例：We had to drive like crazy to get there on time.为了准时到达那里，我们只得把车子开得飞快。

lot [lCt] n.许多，大量；签，抽签；命运，运气；（有特殊用途的一块）土地，场地a lot 很，非常，很多a lot/lots of 大量的，许多的 cast/draw lots 抽签，抓阉（决定做）a parking lot停车场例：It is a curious turnaround from the days when bondholders were pleased to be bought out and were driving to drawing lots! 相比以前股票持有者乐于卖出股票而热中于抽签(参与新股认购)的情形，现在的情况真是一个奇怪的转变。

shot [FCt] n.开枪，射击，发射；射门，投篮；弹丸；铅球；尝试，试图；镜头，拍摄；注射like a shot 立即，飞快地例：I’d tell you like a shot if we ever got into a real jam. 要是我们真的遇到交通堵塞，我会立即告诉你。

dam [dAm] n. 坝，堤vt.筑坝（堤）挡住；（up）抑住，忍住例：From an aerial view of the Three Gorges Dam one call know how magnificent the project is．从空中鸟瞰三峡大坝，你会知道这一工程有多么宏伟。

win [win] vi.获胜，赢vt.在…中获胜；赢得，获得n.胜利，赢win out /through 获胜，成功 win over 说服，把…争取过来例：He disagrees at the moment，but I'm sure we can win him over to our point of view．他现在不同意，但我确信我们能说服他同意我们的观点。

tender [5tendE] a.嫩的，疼痛的，一触即痛的；温柔的vt. (正式)提出vi.（for）投标n.投标例：Nicholas was sent to boarding school at the tender age of seven．尼古拉斯在年仅7岁时就被送往寄宿学校。

skate [skeit, skit] n.冰鞋v. 溜冰，滑冰ice [ais] n.冰，冰块vt. 使凉，冰镇break the ice 打破僵局 be (skating) on thin ice 如履薄冰，处境极其危险例：You’re skating on thin ice, showing up late for work every day．你每天上班迟到，这是在薄冰上溜冰——很危险的啊!cook [kuk] vt.烹调，煮，烧 n.厨师，炊事员例：Rachel cooked up some story about her car breaking down，to explain why she was so late．雷切尔编谎话说她的车抛锚了，以此解释她为什么迟到。

preposition [7prepE5ziFEn] n. 介词例：Function word is a word, such as a preposition, an article, or a pronoun，that has little semantic content of its own and chiefly indicates a grammatical relationship．功能词如介词、冠词或连词等一类主要用于指明一种语法关系的语义很虚的词。

pronoun [5prEunaun] n. 代词例：同上。

watch [wCtF] v.注视，观看；看守，监视，照看；小心，当心；（for）窥伺，等待n.表；看管，监视watch out(for) 密切注意，提防，留神例：In the rush to go folkloric watch out for collision of cultures．在民俗化的热潮中，要提防不同文化的冲突。

collision [kE5liVEn] n.碰撞；冲突，抵触例：同上。

comfortable [5kQmfEtEbl] a.舒适的，舒服的；宽欲的，小康的，足够的；轻松获胜的，轻松赢得的例：Although she was from a well-to-do family and could have led a very comfortable life，Judith had chosen otherwise．虽然朱迪思出身于富裕家庭，本可以舒舒服服地过日子，但她却选择了另一种生活。

activity [Ak5tiviti] n.活动；活性，活力slide [slaid] v. (使)滑动，（使）下滑；（使）悄悄地移动n.滑动，下滑；滑道，滑面；幻灯片let slide 放任自流，听其自然例：Years ago it housed all the village activities including lantern slides，then moving pictures when they came into being．许多年前，村子里所有的活动都在这栋房子里进行，包括放玻璃幻灯片，后来有了电影，就在那里放电影。
