Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!

In the year 1998, a company called Tencent was founded in Shenzhen—the Chinese window to the world in South launched its first internet product –the OICQ, and QQ in brief in China market. For my generation, signing up for a QQ account, logging in, and chatting with friends became a prevailing fashion. A flashing portrait of penguin at the right bottom of desktop is a unique feature of my generation. That is also my first experience with the Internet. How amazing it was!

Today, as of December XX, there were about billion net citizens in China, and the Internet use rate across the country was 48%. This means half of us Chinese are involved in a connected world, and we are becoming the true global villagers. The most influential Internet companies in China—Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent have been forming the strongest BAT that hits every corner of our daily life. How does Internet impact us today Is there any negative aspect

I try to briefly answer these two questions in my talk today.

1. Advantages of Internet

Get access to internet is a vast ocean of information. Anyone, anywhere with an internet connection can find out just about anything in just a matter of seconds. This even extends out towards various levels of formal education, such like distant education, MOOC, the Massive OpenOnline Course in detail.

Get new ways of shopping. Another great benefit of the internet is the ability to find just about anything you could want and even some things you might never have known existed for purchase. With a few simple clicks someone can buy everything from food and groceries to a car. Now we even have a special festival called “double eleven” which means November

11th. In that day, customers can buy goods with lowest price via the e-commerce

platform—Taobao.

Communicate with others on a global like the original use of the Internet, communication across

great distances is achievable in seconds. We can instant message allowing for direct communication or email someone a message for them to receive upon logging into their account.

2. Drawbacks to the Internet

Create new possibilities of like identity theft, privacy leaks, cyber bulling, and so on are all a result of this wired technology.

Get loss of privacy: If you use the Internet, your personal information such as your name, address, and so on can be accessed by other people.

Pornography: This is a very serious issue concerning the Internet, especially when it comes to young children. There are thousands of pornographic sites on the Internet that can be easily found and can be a detriment to letting children use the Internet.

3. Conclusion

The Internet as a whole is a like any other resource. How it is used all depend on the people using it. Much like a hammer, you can build a house or use it to commit a crime. This does not of course reflect back on the hammer itself but how it is used. In the case of the

internet, it is a little bit more complicated. While it can and is often used for good such as research and bringing people together it also is used for many illicit purposes.

I am very glad to say something here. My topic is the use of Internet innovation reading.

As we all know, now is the era of the Internet. The reading is a fine tradition of the Chinese nation. Due to busy work and other reasons, modern people reading less and less time. How to use the Internet to innovative way of reading to retrain people's reading habits are both a challenge and an opportunity.

Let me give you an example. Recently my aunt

There is a example, a seiner high school student was eolled by Tsinghua University in a high scores but after 1year he was dropped out by the university, why The reason is sample, after he stepped into college he began high on or suspected to addicted to web game, he started to be truant, violate the college rules, finally, he failed many courses, and the university didn’t forgive him anymore. There are lots of other stories like this one, because of internet, college students had to give up their college life. What makes these unhappy things happened In my opinion, the main reason is that under the Chinese education system, every student is strictly surprised by their parent’s, the teachers and school before college entrance

examination, they have little freedom. After they go to the college, the parents left them alone, the teachers started to give them enough belief, so they can do everything they want include surfing the internet without control

A group of scientists announced Thursday what they say is the discovery of remains from an early ancestor of human beings.

Bones from the species were found two years ago inside a cave at a United Nations World Heritage Site, near Johannesburg, South Africa. The South African government has named the area the “Cradle of Humankind”because of its rich collection of ancient human-like remains.

The scientists are calling the new species, Homo naledi. The word naledi means “star” in South Africas Sesotho language.

The scientists reported that about 1,500 bones have been recovered from the cave. They said the bones come from at least 15 individuals. The team reported its findings in the journal eLIFE.

Lead scientist Lee Berger works at the University of Witwatersrand. He said the discovery “was right under our nose in the most explored valley of the continent of Africa.” Mr. Berger spoke to reporters Thursday in Johannesburg.

“This is a great moment for us. It is a moment that was perhaps two years in the making. For some of you who may follow our adventures since November of XX. But in fact, it is 90 years in the making: 90 years of exploration here in South Africa for human origins.”The scientists said the newly discovered species Homo naledi probably stood up straight when walking. They said a normal adult stood about meters tall and weighed about 45 kilograms.

The researchers described the hands and feet of the

new species as human-like. But they said the ribs, shoulders and pelvis were closer to other early ancestors than to those of modern humans.

The Associated Press reported that Mr. Berger said his team is not claiming that Homo naledi was a direct ancestor of modern-day people.

The researchers believe neledi developed between million and million years ago, but the bones might be younger than that. The team said dating the bones is one of their projects.

Also unclear is why the bones were in a hard-to-reach part of the cave in the first place. Scientists wondered whether others could have placed dead bodies there in a kind of behavior rarely found in early humans.

Biologists from Boise State University have been

making noise in the forests of the western American state of Idaho. They are making noise to study the value of quiet in nature. They want to know how people and animals react to noise pollution.

The researchers placed outdoor speakers on the side of a half-kilometer-long part of a road in the Boise National Forest. For two years, they played the sounds of passing cars through the speakers. Professor Jesse Barber of Boise State University says they found the sounds caused migratory birds to flee. The birds also failed to gain weight.

Recently, researchers played sounds of machines that are used to remove natural gas from the ground.

That sound is heard in natural gas fields throughout the American West.

Professor Barber says these experiments are designed to help researchers learn the effects of noise pollution on birds, insects, bats, plants and people.

"We are testing the idea that these things are

coupled -- that as the soundscape gets louder, wildlife suffers. But that also feeds back on to how much people get out of that experience, how much they value it, and thus how much they are willing to protect that same place."

The research team also studied a group of volunteers who watch birds for fun. Mitch Levenhagen is a graduate student in the research team. He measured how much

the artificial noise lessened the ability of the birdwatchers to identify recorded bird songs. He recorded eight songs in the noise condition and eight songs in the quiet.

He then repeated the experiment without the artificial noise. The birdwatchers were happy when the noise machine was shut off.

The birdwatchers said the artificial noise affected their ability to identify bird sounds more than they thought it would. Birdwatcher Jim Lyons said the experiment caused him to value quiet more.

"The whole thing has been ear-opening, shall we say. To be part of this is very stimulating, very interesting.

I am going to think about it from now on."

Volunteer Janice Engle said she, too, likes the quiet.

"I moved out of the city to a little place in the country where I wanted it to be quiet. I greatly value that. It is hard to find those places more and more. There are lots of ways

to mitigate sound. But it istrade-off. There is always a cost. And it comes down to people's values. What do we value more."

The National Park Service is paying for some noise pollution research. The federal agency is also examining other ways to reduce noise. They include putting new surfaces on roads. And they are creating quiet areas with signs telling visitors to turn off their mobile phones.

Next year, Mr. Levenhagen and Professor Barber will go to Northern California to ask visitors at Muir Woods National Monument and other parks how they feel about noise.
