We started imagining what the rest of the person would be and came up with some pretty goofy combinations. Maybe you could be a "taco head" with a crunchy shell for a skull!In addition to the readings, we covered so many useful vocabulary words too. Like when we learned how to describe people's appearance and personalities. It's definitely going to come in handy next time I need to introduce someone. Instead of just saying "This is my friend Amy. She's nice," I can go into more detail like "Amy has long, flowing chestnut hair and a warm, bubbly personality that simply draws people to her." See, doesn't that make the description way more interesting and vivid?We also studied synonyms, antonyms, homophones, prefixes, suffixes, and other cool word construction concepts. It's amazing how many different English words there are and how they can be linked together or pulled apart. Like "disagree" is theopposite of "agree" with that "dis" prefix added to give it the contrary meaning. And "bear" and "bare" sound exactly the same but mean completely different things! The English language sure has a lot of little quirks to master.Then there were the writing strategies we practiced, like using sensory details, figurative language, and transition words. Those techniques can really help bring a story or essay to life. For example, instead of saying "I ate a cupcake," I could describe how "The rich, velvety chocolate melted on my tongue while the light, buttery frosting dissolved into sweet creaminess." See how that paints a much more mouthwatering picture in your mind? And transition words like "furthermore, in addition, however" make your sentences flow better from one idea to the next.We can't forget about all the awesome hands-on activities and games we did either! That vocabulary bingo was a blast, hotly competing to see who could cover their board first.
