An Analysis of the Character PipPip is a character of the novel Great Expectations which is written by Charles Dickens. He is the most popular English novelist of the Victorian era, and one of the most popular of all time.He has many masterpieces, such as A tale of cities, David Copperfield, Hard time, Oliver Twist and so on. Great Expectations is one of his masterpieces. The story in this book happened in middle of 19 century and it reflects the gap between the rich and the poor in the capitalistic society.Pip is the main character of this book and through the story of him we can get the theme of the book. After reading this book, in my opinion, Pip is a kind and ambitious man. In the beginning, I know Pip is a poor child. He lives in a small village with his sister and Joe Garage. His parents died when he was a baby. So Pip is really poor. Then he saves Magwitch who is a convict. In the end, Magwitch gives Pip the great expectations by sending Pip to London and letting him receive a good education. I think it’s suggesting that Pip is helpful and kind to others. In the book, there are a lot of things that tell me it. For examples, in chapter 20, Pip plans to help Herbert because both of them spend too much money and Herbert can hardly afford it. Then Pip arranges to invest some money in a shipping company called Clarrikers and this company promises to make Herbert a partner of it. But Pip has to ask Miss Havisham for help since he has no money to help Herbert. Except for this thing, Pip also forgives Miss Havisham and saves her from a fire. All of these things show that Pip is a good and tolerant man.Actually, I didn’t want to continue reading the book when I read the chapter 13. In this chapter, Pip knows that somebody is to give him the great expectations and he will go to London to get the good education. Then he becomes overconfident and unfriendly to Joe and Biddy. I am really angry with it and even I don’t want to continue reading. But I know it will not be allowed and it’s too childish indeed. So, I am going on. In next chapters, I find other things likethis. In the chapter 16, Pip receives a letter from Biddy and it says Joe will come here. In general, when old friends give a visit to ours, we will be happy. But Pip concerns about Joe’ coming. And when Joe comes here, Pip is unfriendly to him. So, I think Pip also has bad aspects of his character.At last, I think Pip is also faithful to love. When Pip comes to Miss Havisham’s home and meets Estella, he fells in love with her. And then he changes his attitude to life. He wants to be a gentleman and get Miss Havisham’s admiration. In this way he can make Estella love him and finally marry her.These three points are my understanding of Pip. Anyhow, it’s a book to worth reading.。

He felt ashamed and didn’t want to use the money any more. What’s worse, the criminal Magwitch escaped from prison to visit Pip and was noticed by the police. At last, Magwitch was sentenced to death and Pip led a normal life. The beautiful lady became a widow as her husband died. But Pip still loved her and promised to be friends with her all the same. This ending is a bit reaasuring.Among those several characters in the novel, my favourite is Magwitch. He was homeless and poor when he was young and he used to be put into prison several times. No one cared about him, so when little Pip saved him by giving him some food, he felt moved. And he bore Pip’s help in his mind. When he was exiled overseas, he was determined to make a lot of money and help Pip become a gentleman. He worked hard and saved every coin he could, and then sent it to Pip. He did all of these secretly in order to prevent little Pip from being embarrassed. After Pip became a real gentleman, Magwitch returned to England in secret only to see whether Pip had led a good life. What we can find from him is deep love for Pip. Although the society has deserted him, he is not deserted by himself. Different from Miss Havishams who is black-hearted, Magwitch islike a father. He showed his love to Pip without any hesitation. He was just like Pip’s father. This is why I admire him very much.Then when I look back into our society, I find that some parents are not as good as the criminal Magwitch. Cases are that parents push their children to work hard in order to be admitted into the college where they were eager to go when they were young. This usually leads to two consequences. One is that the children are exerted too much pressure and they go to extremes. The other is that their children do as they are told to and don’t have their independent thinking. I set up my mind to finish reading it for the simple reason that I have read the Chinese version of this great novel and I was deeply attracted by the story.The main character in this novel is Pip and the whole story goes like this: Pip was a orphan and was brought up by his sister “by hand”. His sister Mrs. Joe was very strict with him while his brother-in-law treat him kindly. As a result, the two developed a intimate relationship. But I think these words can betterdescribe Magwitch. He lived with the fear of death all his life. Who shuts love out，in turnshall be shut outfrom love. However，thankfully，because Pip finally realized his goodheart， his ending was peaceful.Dickens has Pip as the writer and first person narrator of this account of his life'sexperiences，and the entire story is understood to have been written as a retrospective，rather than as a present tense narrative or a diary or journal. Still， though Pip "knows" howall the events in the story will turn out，he uses only very subtle foreshadowing so that welearn of events only when the Pip in the story does. Pip does，however，use the perspectiveof the bitter lessons he's learned to ment acidly on various actions and attitudes in hisearlier life.I know how to fully understand this novel，twice is far from enough. An Analysis of the Character Pip
Pip is a character of the novel Great Expectations which is written by Charles Dickens. He is the most popular English novelist of the Victorian era, and one of the most popular of all time.He has many masterpieces, such as A tale of cities, David Copperfield, Hard time, Oliver Twist and so on. Great Expectations is one of his masterpieces. The story in this book happened in middle of 19 century and it reflects the gap between the rich and the poor in the capitalistic society.
Pip is the main character of this book and through the story of him we can get the theme of the book. After reading this book, in my opinion, Pip is a kind and ambitious man. In the beginning, I know Pip is a poor child. He lives in a small village with his sister and Joe Garage. His parents died when he was a baby. So Pip is really poor. Then he saves Magwitch who is a convict. In the end, Magwitch gives Pip the great expectations by sending Pip to London and letting him receive a good education. I think it’s suggesting that Pip is helpful and kind to others. In the book, there are a lot of things that tell me it. For examples, in chapter 20, Pip plans to help Herbert because both of them spend too much money and Herbert can hardly afford it. Then Pip arranges to invest some money in a shipping company called Clarrikers and this company promises to make Herbert a partner of it. But Pip has to ask Miss Havisham for help since he has no money to help Herbert. Except for this thing, Pip also forgives Miss Havisham and saves her from a fire. All of these things show that Pip is a good and tolerant man.
Actually, I didn’t want to continue reading the book when I read the chapter 13. In this chapter, Pip knows that somebody is to give him the great expectations and he will go to London to get the good education. Then he becomes overconfident and unfriendly to Joe and Biddy. I am really angry with it and even I don’t want to continue reading. But I know it will not be allowed and it’s too childish indeed. So, I am going on. In next chapters, I find other things like
this. In the chapter 16, Pip receives a letter from Biddy and it says Joe will come here. In general, when old friends give a visit to ours, we will be happy. But Pip concerns about Joe’ coming. At last, I think Pip is also faithful to love. When Pip comes to Miss Havisham’s home and meets Estella, he fells in love with her. And then he changes his attitude to life. He wants to be a gentleman and get Miss Havisham’s admiration. In this way he can make Estella love him and finally marry her.
