The report warns about the effects of changes in the atmosphere. It says the world must act immediately to halt these changes, or temperatures on earth will rise to dangerous level. A greenhouse is a glass building that traps heat so plants can be grown inside even in cold weather. CFCs, carbon dioxide, and other gases in the atmosphere act like a greenhouse. • 大气中起温室作用的气体称为温室气体，温室气体占大气层不足1％。大气层中主要的温室气体 有二氧化碳(CO2)、甲烷(CH4)、一氧化二氮(N2O)、氯氟碳化合物(CFCs)及臭氧(O3)。大气层 中的水气(H2O)虽然是“天然温室效应”的主要原因，但普遍认为它的成份并不直接受人类活动 所影响。 1. 二氧化碳(C02) 由于大量使用煤、石油、天然气等石化燃料，全球的二氧化碳正以每年约60亿t的数量增加。二 氧化碳是造成温室效应的主要气体，吸收红外线辐射，影响大气平流层中O3的浓度。 2.氟氯碳化合物(CFCs) 目前以CFC-11，CFC一12，CFC一13为主，使用于冷气机、电冰箱的冷媒，电子零件清洁剂、 发泡剂，是造成温室效应的气体。吸收红外线辐射，影响平流层中O3的浓度。 3.甲烷(CH4) 有机体发酵及物质不完全燃烧的过程会产生甲烷，主要来源于天然湿地(沼泽、苔原等)、水稻田、 反刍动物、煤炭开采、海洋湖泊和其他生物活动场所、CH4水合物的失稳分解等。吸收红外线 辐射，影响对流层中O3及OH的浓度，影响平流层中O3和H20的浓度，产生CO2。 4.氮氧化合物(NOx) 由燃烧石化燃料、微生物及化学肥料分解所排放。吸收红外线辐射，影响大气平流层中O3 的浓度。 5.臭氧(O3) 来自汽机车等所排放的氮氧化物及碳氢化合物，经光化学作用而产生的气体。吸收紫外光及 红外线辐射。人类还有许多活动也产生了许多温室效应的气体，见表1，不同的气体对于温室效 应增温效果见表2

Carbon dioxide is not the only greenhouse gas.
Other gases, such as methane (CH4) and nitrous (氮的、硝的） oxide (NO), are even stronger infrared （红 外线的）absorbers.

Kyoto Protocol
《京都议定书》（英文：Kyoto Protocol ， 又 译 《 京 都 协 议 书 》 、《京都条约》；全称《联合国 气候变化框架公约的京都议定书 》）是《联合国气候变化框架公 约 》 （ United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change，UNFCCC）的 补充条款。是1997年12月在日本 京都由联合国气候变化框架公约 参加国三次会议制定的。其目标 是“将大气中的温室气体含量稳 定在一个适当的水平，进而防止 剧烈的气候改变对人类造成伤害 ”。
The other serious worry is that rising sea levels from the melting of the polar ice could severely flood many countries. A rise in sea levels of one metre, which many experts are predicting by the year 2100 (and some as soon as 2030), would flood 15 percent of Egypt（埃及）, and 12 percent of Bangladesh(孟 加拉国). The Maldives (马 尔代夫）in the Indian Ocean would almost completely disappear.
