高中学生英语作文自我批改
一、引言
长期以来,如何进行有效的英语作文批改一直是困扰高中英语教师的难题之一。
目前,高中学生的英语作文都是上交任课教师批改,教师在学生的作文上写下简单的评语或打上一个标志性的分数,发还学生,个别教师可能会进行范文分析。
Lewis(1993)对作文批改作过形象的描述:面对一堆作文,教师拿着红笔,在紧迫的时间内,用程序化的方式指出其中的错误,写下简短评语,打出作文分数。
那么学生有没有仔细阅读教师的评语呢?刘上扶(1999)指出:近年来的调查表明,多数学生并不认真阅读教师的批改和评语,教师的辛勤劳动往往达不到预期的效果。
另外由于教师批改作文工作量较大,耗时较长,等到学生拿到作文本时,差不多已经遗忘了文章的内容,完全没有阅读教师评语的兴趣。
笔者从2002年开始进行学生作文白批评价的尝试。
整篇作文完成的程序为:学生上交课内或课外所写作文——教师对学生的作文进行简明扼要的点批——作文发还学生——学生作文自批评评价标准价(学生人手一份作文自批评价标准)——学生上交修改的作文——教师最后批阅。
二、作文自批评价标准
学生作文白批评价标准含Language Criterion与Quality Criterion。
Language Criterion是语言知识层面的批改,Quality Criterion是对作文整体质量的评价。
教师要求学生在白批过程中先用Language Criterion,再用Quality Criterion进行评价,最后打出自评分数。
(一)语言标准
语言标准呈现了一些符号的具体含义,这些符号是教师在点批学生作文时写在学生作文本上的,学生通过符号批改自己作文中的语言错误,质量标准是一个五项六分制的评价表,总分30分,与浙江省高考英语作文分数相同,旨在渗透高考作文评价意识,也使学生清楚地明白需改进的地方。
学生在自批的最后阶段必须在自己的文本上打出自批分数,比如,Content 5+Organization 4+ Vocabulary 5 + Grammar 4 + Mechanisms 5 :23。
教师在最后批阅时根据学生的最终文本及自评分数打出最终的分数。
这一学生作文自批评价标准的设计遵循了《课标》规定的教学原则,即“加强对学生学习策略的指导,帮助他们形成自主学习的能力”。
《课标》指出要为学生独立学习留有空间和时间,使学生有机会通过联想、推理和归纳等思维活动用英语分析问题和解决问题,获得经验,增强自信,提高能力。
教师要注意帮助学生独立制定具有个性的学习计划,并根据自我评价不断修正和调整自己的学习计划。
我们要求和安排学生按照作文自批评价标准来自我批改评价正是给学生提供了独立学习的空间和时间,有利于培养学生自主学习的能力;而且Language Criterion与QualityCriterion让学生在自批过程中有衡量的具体标准,降低了任务的难度,从而增强了学生的自信心。
三、案例描述
这是一篇高三的课堂作文,要求学生根据以下内容写一篇日记:
2月28日天气晴朗,我们全班同学在班主任张老师的带领下到湖边滑冰。
大家正滑
得高兴,这时我突然发现汤姆脚下的冰裂了,汤姆掉进了水里。
我大声向张老师求救。
张老师马上跑过去救汤姆,不幸的是张老师也掉进了水里,但张老师还是不顾一切地救起了汤姆,自己却晕过去了。
我们把张老师送到了医院,汤姆非常难受,觉得自己做错了事。
我们大家都很感动。
四、结束语
在四年的实践中,笔者发现学生作文自批评价标准的使用确实使原来枯燥、低效的作文批改成为轻松、相对高效的学习过程。
首先,学生使用作文自批评价标准进行自批评价培养了学生的自主学习能力,增强了学生的学习主体意识。
学生自批作文的过程就是一个自主学习的过程,Language Criterion与Quality Criterion为学生的自主学习提供了技术支持,学生自我评定作文的过程充分体现了学生的主体地位。
其次,学生作文自批评价标准的使用提高了学生的作文质量、写作能力及语言综合运用能力。
学生在进行作文自批时不仅要关注语言知识层面最基本的问题,如单词拼写、字母大小写、名词单复数、时态、代词前后一致等诸多问题,而且必须从作文整体出发,从内容、组织、衔接等方面审视全文。
事实上,Language Criterion 的使用也是一个短文改错的过程。
长此以往,学生的语言整体水平,包括写作能力,将得到质的提升。
再次,学生作文自批评价标准的使用培养了学生的写作策略。
笔者在2003年对学生的问卷调查中发现Quality Criterion使绝大部分学生开始关注作文要点是否全部写到,作文句与句、段与段之间的衔接,词汇、句型的选择,等等。
最后,学生作文自批评价标准的使用促进了师生问的情感交流。
由于学生作文自批评价标准降低了写作的难度,而且教师评语趋于人性化,不少学生在整篇作文结束后还跑到教师办公室与教师谈写作的问题,师生之间的关系越来越融洽,进一步提高了学习效率。
同时,笔者在实施过程中发现学生作文自批评价标准存在着两个有待改进与完善的地方。
第一,一篇完整作文的完成周期对学生作文自批的影响。
在教师布置学生写作到学生完成并上交作文,至少需要一天的时间,教师批阅学生作文,至少也需一天的时间,返还学生自批再上交,至少一天,教师再批阅,至少一天,所以,一篇完整作文完成的整个过程至少需要四天。
四天对于学习强度很大的高中学生而言是一个较长的时间段,有的学生对于最初的作文内容能记忆犹新,而有的学生则会忘得一干二净。
所以,作文完成的周期仍需探索。
第二,不同语言水平或学习能力的学生对作文自批评价标准的使用。
对于语言水平较弱、学习能力较差的学生来说,作文自批评价标准首先是一个理解的问题,其次才能对自身的作文进行批改和评定。
因此,很多这样的学生就会随便打个分数,造成自批评价标准的使用流于形式。
