山姆大叔（英文：Uncle Sam）是美国的绰号和拟人化形象，一般被描绘成 为穿着星条旗纹样的礼服，头戴星条旗纹样的高礼帽，身材高瘦，留着山 羊胡 子 ， 鹰 勾鼻 ， 精神矍铄 的老人形 象 。 此漫 画形象由 著名画家 詹 姆 斯·蒙哥马利·弗拉格（James Montgomery Flagg）依照自己的长相为公 共资讯委员会而绘画。一般认为，‚山姆大叔‛一名源于 1812年美英战争 时期，一位名叫撒米尔·威尔逊（Samuel Wilson，1766年-1854年）的美 国人，他在战争中向美国军队供应牛肉，桶上的牌子写的是‘EA-US’。EA 为公司名，US为生产地美国，而Uncle Samuel（山姆大叔）的缩写恰好也 是U.S.，于是在一次玩笑中，山姆大叔的说法很快传开，其后成为了美国 的绰号。美国人将‚山姆大叔‛诚实可靠、吃苦耐劳及爱国主义精神视为 自己公民的骄傲和共有的品性。
薰衣草的传奇故事就这么被流传了下来，直到现在，薰衣草还是被人们认 为是驱除不洁之物及薰香的重要工具之一。
