六年级英语在小学英语教学中起着承上启下的作用，既是五年级的衍生又是初中一年级的铺垫。
他们通过小学五年的英语语言的学习和熏陶，有了一定程度的语言积累，能够并且也乐于围绕主题进行学习和交流。
在设计教学任务和活动时，可以增加一定的层次和难度，最大程度地激发孩子们的知识储备和提供语言输出的机会。
但同时考虑到学生对于本单元目标句型How long does it take to get to ... from... by ....? It takes about....有一定的难度，在设计本单元活动时需要由简到繁，由易到难，逐步进行。
这样才能达到真正的掌握和运用新知的教学目标。
二、教材分析、本单元的内容是六年级上册的Module 3 Unit 9 Great Cities of the World. 本单元所在模块的主题是Out and about ，在学习本单元之前，学生学习了一些关于表达将来打算的知识，如Shall I ,,,? 和参观博物馆的知识，也初步了解了一些关于地理知识和方位的词汇。
在此基础上我们将单元内容进行了整体设计。
首先从深圳出发，带着学生去上海、北京、三亚、和拉萨去“旅游“，利用学生对这些城市的已有的旧知和生活中的订票的真实生活情景，全方位了解他们的方位、来往两地所需的时间、交通工具等，第一课时是学习和讨论The Great Cities in China..接下来由首都北京慢慢地过渡到英国的伦敦和日本的首都东京，了解学习这三大国际大都市的一些重要的旅游支援和饮食习惯等。
实现了对主题的学习。
在此基础上拓展了世界主要国家和国旗及首都，重点介绍了一带一路的国家的首都，如开罗，莫斯科，曼谷等。
