特别在信息流通高速发展的今天，面对大量的外文资料和文献，高职院校的学生掌握实际的专业英语的翻译方法和技巧显得尤为重要。
机电类专业英语是普通英语的一个分支，它既具有普通英语的特点，又有自己的专业特色。
一、机电类专业英语的特点（一）专业词汇多机电类的英语词汇量很大,这是由这个专业的多学科、交叉性所决定的。
其中，除了来自普通英语中的词汇和来自希腊和拉丁语之外,还有很多词汇是组合、缩略或变义而成的。
如:合成词:mechatronics((机电一体化)是mechanical和electronics两个词汇截取而成的;组合类词语:couterbalance(平衡)、abovementioned(前述的)、downstream(下游)、overheat(过热)、flowrate(流量)等;前后缀类单词:multidiscipline(多学科)、preplan(预定计划)、displacement(位移)等;缩略词语:maths(mathematics,数学)、lab(laboratory,实验室)、cSt(centistoke,厘沲)、cpd(compound,化合物)等;具有专业引申义的词汇:orifice(小孔→节流孔)、valve(瓣→阀门)、press(压→冲压或印刷)等。

机电一体化专业英语
教学有法，但无定法。总之，教师在进行专业英语的教学过程中，要依据教学的具体目 的和任务，依据教材的内容特点，依据学生的实际情况，合理地选取适当的教学方法，力求 达到最好的教学效果。

摘要与文摘两者在作用和结构方面是有区别的。英文Abstract, 在英汉词典里既作“摘要”讲,也作“文摘”讲。
英文摘要的内容
英文摘要需要提供给读者一种信息，即该篇文章所包含的主要概念和 讨论的主要问题。摘要主要可分为指示型、信息-指示型和信息型3种。
（三）信息型摘要
信息型摘要即报道型摘要，也称资料型摘要。它用来报道论文的研究目的、 方法、结果和结论。实质上，它是整篇论文的高度浓缩。
一般来讲，目前科技期刊中学术类文章的英文摘要属于信息型，也是目前最 多的一种，也是我们主要讨论的一种摘要。篇幅较长，100～150词为宜。 (不超过250词)
