英语学术论文写作作业 Section8 Task5

Task 5Look at the text below. What do you think will follow: will the author agree or disagree with this statement? Then work in groups and write a short paragraph showing disagreement with the above statement. At first glance, it may seem that assessing the vocabulary knowledge of secondary language learners is both necessary and reasonably straightforward (Read, 2000: 1)Words are the basic building blocks of language, the units of meaning from which larger structures such as sentences, paragraphs and whole texts are formed. For second language (L2) learners, acquisition of vocabulary is a conscious and demanding process. Even at an advanced level, learners still have the limitations in their knowledge of L2 words. However, vocabulary acquisition is not simple memorization of word lists but a complex, multi-stage process. It is necessary and reasonable to assess L2 learners’ knowledge of vocabulary when evaluating their language competence. If learners say they know a word, they may mean that they know it is a correct not a pseudo word in the target language, or their knowledge of it may reach the other end of the continuum, that is they can use it in almost all possible contexts, with proper connotation and register. But to assess vocabulary knowledge is no easy matter because of the complexity of it. Researchers on the assessment of vocabulary develop in different directions. Some focus on the measurement of vocabulary size, with C-test (Chapple, 1994), Multiple Choice (Wesche & Paribakht, 1996) and Checklist Test (Read, 2000) as the basic means. Some devote to the depth of vocabulary knowledge by the use of the Word Associates Test (Read, 1993) and the Vocabulary Knowledge Scale (VKS) (Wesche & Paribakht, 1996). Still some pay special attention to productive vocabulary knowledge, employing Productive Levels Test (Laufer & Nation, 1993) and Measuring the Lexical Features in Writing (Read, 2000). There is no one single test which can measure all different aspects of vocabulary knowledge available yet, so most researchers in this field adopt a “multiple test approach”.。

英语学术论文范文Title: The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health。
Abstract:This paper examines the impact of social media on mental health, exploring the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on individuals' well-being. The paper also discusses potential solutions and interventions to mitigate these negative effects and promote positive mental health outcomes.Introduction:Social media has become an integral part of modern society, with billions of people using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to connect with others, share their lives, and consume information. While social media has many benefits, including the ability to stay connected with friends and family, it also has the potential to negatively impact individuals' mental health. This paper aims to explore the various ways in which social media can affect mental health and to propose potential interventions to mitigate these negative effects. The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health:One of the most significant ways in which social media can impact mental health is through the phenomenon of social comparison. When individuals are constantly exposed to curated and often idealized versions of others' lives on social media, they may experience feelings of inadequacy, jealousy, and low self-esteem. This can lead to negative mental health outcomes, including depression and anxiety. Additionally, excessive social media use has been linked to poor sleep quality, increased feelings of loneliness, and decreased self-esteem.Another potential negative impact of social media on mental health is the phenomenon of cyberbullying. With the anonymity and distance provided by social media platforms, individuals may feel emboldened to engage in harmful behaviors suchas harassment, intimidation, and spreading rumors. This can have devastating effects on the mental health of those targeted, leading to feelings of isolation, fear, and depression.Furthermore, the constant exposure to negative news and distressing events on social media can also contribute to heightened levels of stress and anxiety. The 24/7 news cycle and the viral spread of alarming content can lead to feelings of helplessness and despair, negatively impacting individuals' mental well-being.Potential Solutions and Interventions:Despite the potential negative impacts of social media on mental health, there are several potential solutions and interventions that can help mitigate these effects. One such intervention is promoting digital literacy and critical thinking skills to help individuals navigate social media in a healthy and mindful way. By teaching individuals how to critically evaluate the content they consume and how to recognize and avoid harmful behaviors, we can empower them to use social media in a way that promotes positive mental health outcomes.Additionally, promoting positive and uplifting content on social media platforms can help counteract the negative effects of social comparison and exposure to distressing news. By creating and sharing content that promotes self-compassion, gratitude, and empathy, individuals can contribute to a more positive and supportive online environment.Furthermore, implementing policies and regulations to address cyberbullying and harmful online behaviors can help create a safer and more inclusive online space. By holding individuals accountable for their actions and providing support for those who have been targeted, we can work towards reducing the prevalence and impact of cyberbullying on individuals' mental health. Conclusion:In conclusion, social media has the potential to negatively impact individuals' mental health through social comparison, cyberbullying, and exposure to distressing content. However, by promoting digital literacy, creating and sharing positive content, and implementing policies to address harmful online behaviors, we can work towardsmitigating these negative effects and promoting positive mental health outcomes for all individuals. It is essential to recognize the potential impact of social media on mental health and to take proactive steps to create a healthier and more supportive online environment.。

ew
The presentation of Results is usually followed by Discussion, though the division of the two parts is not rigid. Analysis on the data and report of findings are expected in either the Results section or Discussion section. The purpose of such analysis is to provide interpretation of the results or methods. There is no fixed way of writing this part, but some conventional rules are expected to follow in order to get your results understood and published.
But how are the findings presented? Results can be reported in both written texts and visual illustrations. After the experimental data are collected and analyzed, it is time to present the findings in the Results section.

The Influence of Poor Diet on College Students’ HealthBy GUO KAbstractDiet since the ancient times is an important part of people's life. However, at present most Chinese college students have poor diet. As we all know, college students are the future of a nation. Therefore ,it is a big problem that cannot be overlooked. There are a large number of interpretations of the influence of poor diet on college students’ health in many previous studies. But think most of them are incomplete. Because they hardly mention about its effects on college students’ psychological health but onlyphysical health. So I did a questionnaire survey in Chang Sha University of Science and Technology (CSUST) .After I got and analyzed the data, I obtained my conclusion. Poor diet certainly causes a very negative effect on college students’ psychological health. It does not only mean that college students would face more blocks in study and work. It is also a dig trouble of the development of our country.Key wordsInfluence, poor diet , college students, health, physical, psychology IntroductionCollege students is an important group in the society .They are in the period of growth and development .However, it is learned that there are quite a proportion of the college students' diet is poor and most of them are in the poor nutritional status .The first reason is that college students choose their food with their preference instead of thinking about the dietary factors .The second reason is that college students are short of knowledge about nutrition and health .Most of them have no health consciousness. And, the last reason is that college students’ bedtimes are irregular .For example, college students like stay up late .Staying up late leads to getting up late ,so that some students study directly without breakfast. However, We all know clearly that breakfast is vital. In some literatures ,some conclusions about the influence of poor diet on college students’ health have been put forward .The largest effects of poor diet on college students’ health mainly reflect in the body function decline.1Poor diet lead to college students’ hyposthenia , hyposthenia, blood-deficiency and a series of problems .2Also, Obesity is increasingly common among college students because of their poordiet .3However, those literatures put forward a lot of conclusions about the influence of poor diet on college students’ Physical health but their psychological health. As a matter of fact, the influence of poor diet on college students’ health didn’t only reflected in their body, also in their psychology .And ,the influence of poor diet on college students’ psychological health is even greater and more direct than that on body in their life. Therefore ,this study will focus on investigating the influence of poor diet on college students’ health in psychology. And this study is aimed at urging more college students to fully understand the influence of poor diet on them and increasing their commitment to diet.BodyIn order to find out the influence of poor diet on college stu dents’ physical and psychological health, and get the most accurate results to enable them to pay more attention to their good daily eating habits,I did a questionnaire survey in CSUST in November 2014.The objects of this questionnaire survey are the college students of CSUST. My survey is carried out on several intramural QQ groups. There are five questions in my questionnaire(table1).Five days later, a total of 86 people participated in the questionnaire survey. After collecting and organizing data,I finally obtain a statistical survey result .From this survey result,I find that there are 93% of those students who participating in the questionnaire survey think that their daily diet is poor.I took out the 6 students who think that their daily diet is good and only analyzed the other 80 questionnaires. There are 75% of them think that long-term poor diet makes their psychological states changed. However, The remaining 25% consider that Its influence is only limited to the body but Psychology. As for the 5th question, almost all those 80 students think that long-term poor diet leads to their biliousness. And,most students firmly believe thatlong-term poor diet leads to these influences including biliousness ,obesity ,hyposthenia , lassitude,i rritability and distraction But in the group of those 75% students who think long-term poor diet produces influences on their psychological states ,there are 91% think that they become more depressed and listless because of their long-term poor diet. Also, almost all of they think that they can hardly concentrate on they work when study because of their poor diet. After I got all these data, I had a detailed and comprehensive analysis of them. And I received the conclusion finally. Long-term poor dietcertainlycauses effects on students’ heath, not only in body but psychology. So, it not only leads to undergraduate s’ biliousness ,obesity ,hyposthenia and so on. And it is also reflected in their changes of psychological states. A large number of college students cannot keep a normal psychological state because of their poor diet. They are prone to spirit of trance and Irritability ,andthey can hardly concentrate on doing their work well. Seriously, it may let them lose faith in their college life. That will certainly cause a very negative effect on their development of study even their future occupations.Discussion and conclusionIn my study ,Iconcluded the effects of poor diet on college students’ health ,Different from previous studies, this time my study covered not only the influences on bodies, but most importantly the influences on psychology. According to my study,long-term poor diet certainly causes a very negative effect on college students’ psychological health. Those bad effects let college students face more blocks in their study and work. Therefore ,I hope to draw their attentions to attach importance to their healthy diet by this study and push them to a healthy lifestyle. However, this study is also not perfect enough, for example, this survey’s scope is limited to CSUST but Hunan province even China. So ,I will expandthe scope of the survey to get more accurate results in the future study.ReferenceSONG J,XIAO WL,LI XB.Present Situation of Dietary Behaviors among College Students[J].Chinese Journal of School Health.2012, 33(6)ZHI KY,CHENG YJ.
