(建议用时:30分钟)Ⅰ阅读理解A(2019·石家庄一模)Experts believe that the best time to teach kidslanguage skills is when they are babies. Most times the task is easilyaccomplished with parents reading or talking to their babies. However,in some cases that is not possible due to busy work schedules or whenkids are born deaf. Now, an adorable blueeyed robot, a human avatar, and some hightech neuroscience may be able to assist parents with this important developmental task. The Robot AV atar thermalenhanced system, or RA VE, is the brainchild of a team of researchers led by Laura Ann Petitto, an educational neuroscientist, at Washington,D.C.’s Gallaudet University. The learning process begins when the robot’s camera, which is focused on the baby’s face, detects tiny changes in his/her body temperature. This, combined with the baby’s facial expression, causes the robot to turn its head and guide the baby’s attention to a computer screen, on which a human avatar starts to communicate with the baby, much like a parent would. For example, if the baby points towards the screen, the avatar might respond, “Are you pointing to me?”and follow that up with a nursery rhyme, fairy tale, or some essential social communication, all in American Sign Language(ASL). The “conversation” continues until the kid loses interest. The researchers, who have been testing the system for three years, found that babies as young as 6 to 8 months old began to move their hands in a rhythm similar to ASL after interacting with RA VE for just a few minutes. Petitto says natural language, whether communicated through speech or sign, activates the same parts of the brain and believes the rhythmic motions prove the babies are learning the essential elements of communication. What sets this technique apart from other methods, such as showing educational videos or television shows, is its interactive nature and real-time response to the baby’s actions. The researchers say that while it is too early to determine the system’s longterm influence on baby communication, the initial response has been very encouraging. Next, they plan to introduce an avatar that can both sign and speak to babies.【解题导语】本文是一篇科普说明文,主要介绍了一种可以帮助父母教婴儿学习语言的系统,以及该系统的工作原理、效果评价和研究人员对这种技术的展望。

B(2019·呼和浩特调研)Psychology tells us that many people hate to take risks. But it is good for us to take risks, especially when the risk is to achieve a desired result. In that way, we become stronger and braver. Our human nature should be to take risks, but some people just sit and wish they didn’t have the fear to move on. This is because they have failed a few times in their lives. Please step out and don’t let the past hold you back from living life to the fullest. Move forward and move on! In studying the psychology of taking risks, we find that human nature provides us with the desire to experiment and take chances.Risktaking is a great advantage that allowed our ancestors to become stronger and stronger day by day. By taking risks they fought off enemies and discovered new territories. This attitude has become a part of our modern culture. Riding a roller coaster is a common risk-taking activity. Even each person seems to enjoy the risk although they have the understanding that it is dangerous. This psychological and biological connection creates an interesting connection between what is unsafe and what humans enjoy.Getting in a car each day is a risk. Getting out of bed is a risk, too. We need to take risks so that we can complete many things. Astronauts take risks when they get inside a spacecraft; however, the things they achieve are great. Businessmen take risks when they buy parts of a company; however, without doing that, they could not make more money. We need to take risks so that we can gain something. It is impossible to move forward in life, earn money, enjoy a relationship, play a sport, or do anything else without taking risks. It is all part of the game. It’s one of the most important parts of life.【解题导语】本文是一篇议论文,通过介绍生活中充满冒险,告诉人们:没有冒险就没有收获。

课时练1阅读理解提速练[学生用书P293(单独成册)]Ⅰ阅读理解A(2019·赣州十四县/市联考)Some people are so rude!Who sends an email or a text message that just says “Thank you” ? Who leaves a voice mail message rather than texts you? Who asks for a fact easily found on Google? Don’t these people realize that they’re wasting your time?Maybe I’m the rude one for not appreciating life’s little politeness. But many social agreed standards just don’t make sense to people drowning in digital communication. In texts, you don’t have to declare who you are or even say hello.Email, too, is slower than a text. Voice mail is a now impolite way of trying to connect. My father learned this lesson after leaving me a dozen voice mail messages, none of which I listened to. Exasperated,he called my sister to express his dissatisfaction that I never returned his phone calls. “Why are you leaving him voice mail?” my sister asked. “Just text him.”In the age of the smartphone, there is no reason to ask onceacceptable questions about: the weather forecast, a business’s phone number, or directions to a house, a restaurant, which can be easily found on Google Maps. But people still ask these things. And when you answer, they respond with a thankyou email. How to handle these differing standards? Easy: Consider your audience. Some people, especially older ones, appreciate a thankyou message. Others, like me, want no reply. The anthropologist(人类学家) Margaret Mead once said that in traditional societies, the young learn from the old. But in modern societies, the old can also learn from the young. Here’s hoping that politeness never goes out of fashion but that time-wasting forms of communication do.【解题导语】本文是一篇议论文,主要讨论了如今在智能手机时代,人们应该选择何种方式进行沟通。

You’re a girl. But my mother used to say,if you really want to,there’s nothing you can’t do.” Goodall said.In 1957,the 26-year-old Goodall went to Kenya to work as a secretary. She also arranged to meet the famous scientist Louis Leakey, who was so impressed by her enthusiasm that he hired her as his assistant. She went with him on many trips to the African jungle and in 1960 Leakey sent Goodall to live among chimpanzees in a remote animal preserve, recording the animals’ behavior and interactions. For three months Goodall made little progress. But she said,“I never came close to giving up.” Her breakthrough came one day when she saw a male chimpanzee stick a piece of grass into a termite (白蚁) hill, then put the grass in his mouth.Afterwards she came to the hill and did the same.Pulling the grass out,she discovered dozens of termites on it.The discovery — that some animals use tools — was unknown to most scientists at the time.Goodall saw chimpanzees exhibit human-like emotions, such as jealousy and love. But she also discovered they were capable of violent attacks against each other.Goodall received her PhD in the study of animal behavior at England’s Cambridge University. Now she travels around the globe raising money to preserve wildlife.“I love being in the forest with the chimpanzees,” she said.“I’d much rather be there than travel around from city to city.”1.What was Goodall’s childhood dream?A.She dreamed of going to college.B.She dreamed of traveling all around the world.C.She dreamed of becoming a famous scientist.D.She dreamed of studying animals in Africa.2.What did Goodall’s mother think of her dream?A.As a girl she should not go to the African jungle.B.Her dream would remain a dream unless she got the right training.C.As a girl she should stay away from violent animals.D.She could make her dream come true if she was determined.3.What can we learn from the passage?A.One of Goodall’s discoveries is that some animals use tools.B.Chimpanzees like attacking each other violently.C.Goodall had just about given herself up when she made a breakthrough.D.Termites are chimpanzees’ favorite food.4.Which of the following might be the best title for the text?A.The Lives of ChimpsB.A Scholar of African WildlifeC.Jane’s BreakthroughD.The Connections between Chimps and Human Beings语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文。

(建议用时:30分钟)Ⅰ阅读理解A(2019·合肥高三第二次质量预测)Annette Larkins is an incredible woman who looks like a healthy 40-year-old, although she just turned 70. She follows a special raw diet and only drinks rainwater. She looks so young that people mistake her for the daughter, when she’s out with her husband of 54 years, but I suppose he isn’t complaining.Mrs. Larkins says the secret to her beauty lies in her special diet, consisting of organic vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts grown in her own garden; she calls it the “fountain of youth”. The woman doesn’t touch anything that has been cooked. And another strange thing she does is to collect rainwater,to keep her garden blossoming, but also to drink. But the resident of MiamiDade County, Florida, didn’t always have such a healthy lifestyle. In fact, she consumed meat regularly, as her husband used to own a meat factory way back in the 1960s. It was then that she decided to change her eating habits forever. And what a great decision that was. I mean, just look at her! When she started off, Mrs.Larkins was just looking for a few health benefits and never anticipated that she would look like a 40-year-old at the age of 70. Over the 27 years, Mrs.Larkins has been eating raw food, and she has written two booklets called Journey to Health and also produced a DVD containing all her healthy secrets. Her husband, Mr. Larkins, wishes he had followed her example, because now he looks much, much older and also suffers from diabetes(糖尿病) and high blood pressure. He takes prescription medicine every day, but Annette doesn’t even take an aspirin.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。

J(建议用时:45分钟)Ⅰ阅读理解(2019·济南针对性训练)The modern pizza was originally invented inNaples, Italy, but the word pizza is Greek in origin, derived from theGreek word pēktos meaning solid or clotted. The ancient Greeks coveredtheir bread with oils, herbs and cheese. The first major innovation that ledto flatbread pizza was the use of tomato as a topping. It was common forthe poor of the area around Naples to add tomatoes to their yeastbased flatbread, and so the pizza began. While it is difficult to say for sure who invented the pizza, it is however believed that modern pizza was first made by baker Raffaele Esposito of Naples. In fact, a popular urban legend holds that the archetypal(原型的) pizza, Pizza Margherita, was invented in 1890, when the Royal Palace of Capodimonte asked the Neapolitan pizzaiolo Raffaele Esposito to create a pizza in honor of the visiting Queen Margherita.Of the three different pizzas he created, the Queen strongly preferred a pie wrapped in the colors of the Italian flag:red(tomato), green(basil), and white(mozzarella).Supposedly, this kind of pizza was then named after the Queen as Pizza Margherita.Later, the dish has become popular in many parts of the world:■The first pizzeria, Antica Pizzeria Port’Alba, was opened in 1830 in Naples.■In North America, the first pizzeria was opened in 1905 by Gennaro Lombardi at 53 Spring Street in New York City.■The first Pizza Hut, the chain of pizza restaurants, appeared in the United States in 1958.■Nowadays, many varieties of pizza exist worldwide, along with several dish variants based upon pizza.【解题导语】本文主要介绍了比萨的历史起源。

课时练1阅读理解提速练[学生用书P308(单独成册)]Ⅰ阅读理解A(2019·济南针对性训练)Nathan, a freshman student at San Marino High School in California, U.S., doesn’t like doing housework any more than anybody else. But he said doing it made him wonder why hot water worked better than cold water when washing up after dinner, and what made soap a good cleaner. The experiments he designed to figure out these things earned him the top prize at the 2016 Broadcom MASTERS.MASTERS stands for Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars. Every year, the event brings together 30 middle school students from around the country to share their science projects.“At first, I thought that my ideas were naive,”the teenager told Student Science. “But when I was presented with this special award, it proved that young inventors can actually deal with realworld problems.”Inspired by reports of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, he connected washing dishes to cleaning oil spills. “I decided that I wanted to find a method for cleaning that’s both efficient and environmentally friendly,”Nathan told Student Science. So he created his own setup for measuring surface tension—a scientific term that refers to the tension of a layer of liquid. He ended up learning why soap and hot water are better for cleaning, and a way to remove oil from water.“Science and math help you understand the world around you. You can learn it from books and teachers, but you can also discover it yourself by doing science projects.”He even plans to sell his setup to schools, so other teens can do his experiment and learn his theory. When asked his secret to success, he said to keep a science fair project simple at first. “Break down the problem into smaller, manageable steps, so in that way, you will be able to know what you are doing and build on your knowledge gradually.”【解题导语】本文主要介绍了一个美国高中生的创造发明获得MASTERS奖的故事。
