Rescued from the bitterly cold Atlantic on that April 1912 nigh t, Dean, her 2-year-old brother and her mother were taken to New York with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Before returning home to En gland, they were given a small suitcase of donated clothing, a gift from New Yorkers to help them rebuild their lives. Now, Dean is selling the suitcase and other Titanic mementos to help pay her nursing home fees. They are expected to go for $5, 200 at an auction held in Devizes in western England.Among the things are rare prints of the Titanic and letters from the Titanic Relief Fund offering her mother one pound, seven shillings a nd six pence a week.Which of the following statements about the suitcase is TRUE?A. It was used to hold letters to Dean's mother.B. It was sold at an auction held in Devizes in western England.C. It was a present from America to help Dean's family.D. It was made of valuable material.【解析】正确答案选C。

A、B两选项虽然出现了原文中的很多信息:letters,Dean's m other,at an auction held in Devizes in western England,但是原文并未提到手提箱是用来放信件的,我们从原文也能知道手提箱将要被拍卖,而非已经买了。

虽然我们不能从原文中找到和C选项一样的句子,但它和原文中“Before returning home t o England, they were given a small suitcase of donated clothing, a gift f rom New Yorkers to help them rebuild their lives.”

Sports 3:GymWe will be using Central Park. There are three reasons for choosin g this place. First, it is not very busy and crowded before 6:00 pm...Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A. Students selecting volleyball should register early.B. Students participating in gym should arrive at 6:00 pm.C. Students having swimming suits can take up swimming.D.

Sea vegetables are usually eaten because people like the taste. However, sea vegetables are also a good source of vitamins and minerals. They are especially valuable on islands where green vegetabl es are difficult to grow, or where the soil is poor and local vegetables la ck certain essential minerals. Besides being nutritious, many sea vegetab les have medicinal properties. They can help keep you well and protect against heart diseases, diabetes and goiter.People eat sea plants for all the following reasons EXPECT that ______ _ .A. they are rich in vitamins.B. they taste delicious.C. they can cure us of many diseases.D. they serve as main vegetables on islands.【解析】从原文中“They can help keep you well and protect against heart disease s, diabetes and goiter.

Queenstown RaftingWhere:The trip starts in the Mt Cook National Park, about 50 km south in a direct line from Mt Cook. It then travels about 60 km down to me et the Hasst River. When:every Tuesday,November to MarchDuration:3 days / 2 nightsIncluded:scenic flight;five-star camping meals;accornmodation(tent);all camping and rafting equipment;three days of wilderness activities(bu sh walking,rafting,canyoning)Cost:$195 per personContact:0800-723-888 or visit www.ratfing.co,nzWhat information can we get from Queenstown Rafting ?A. Travelers will live in five-star tents.B. The trip is about 110 km in total.C. Travelers can experience canyoning.D.The trip will take you four months, from November to March.【解析】A选项把原文中的five-star camping meals偷换成了five-star tents,原文中的50km是指Mt Cook National Park距离Mt Cook的直线距离,B选项把这50 km弄错成了旅程中的一段距离,所以计算出的110km总旅程是错误的。

专题11 阅读理解易错点1 只见树木不见丛林,误把细节当主题〔2021·新课标III卷〕Cities usually have a good reason for being where they are, like a nearby port or river. People settle in these places because they are easy to get to and naturally suited to communications and trade. New York City, for example, is near a large harbour at the mouth of the Hudson River. Over 300 years its population grew gradually from 800 people to 8 million. But not all cities develop slowly over a long period of time. Boom towns grow from nothing almost overnight. In 1896, Dawson, Canada, was unmapped wilderness(荒原). But gold was discovered there in 1897, and two years later, it was one of the largest cities in the West, with a population of 30,000.Dawson did not have any of the natural conveniences of cities like London or Paris. People went there for gold. They travelled over snow-covered mountains and sailed hundreds of miles up icy rivers. The path to Dawson was covered with thirty feet of wet snow that could fall without warming. An avalanche(雪崩) once closed the path, killing 63 people. For many who made it to Dawson, however, the rewards were worth the difficult trip. Of the first 20,000 people who dug for gold, 4,000 got rich. About 100 of these stayed rich men for the rest of their lives. But no matter how rich they were, Dawson was never comfortable. Necessities like food and wood were very expensive. But soon, the gold that Dawson depended on had all been found. The city was crowded with disappointed people with no interest in settling down, and when they heard there were new gold discoveries in Alaska, they left Dawson City as quickly as they had come. T oday, people still come and go — to see where the Canadian gold rush happened. T ourism is now the chief industry of Dawson City — its present population is 762.27. What is the text mainly about?A. The rise and fall of a city.B. The gold rush in Canada.C. Journeys into the wilderness.D.

Shark attacks not only disturb beach activities, but can affect associated tourist industries. Shark nets are a common solution to preventing shark attacks on beaches, but they cause dangers to sea ecosystems.Seeking a cost-effective way to monitor beach safety over large areas, we have developed a system called Shark Spotter. It combines artificial intelligence (AI), computing power, and drone (无人机) technology to identify and warn lifesavers to sharks near swimmers. The project is a cooperation between the University of Technology Sydney and The Ripper Group, which is pioneering the use of drones—called "Westpac Little Ripper Lifesavers"—in the search and rescue movement in Australia.SharkSpotter can detect sharks and other potential threats using real-time aerial imagery. The system analyses video from a camera attached to a drone to monitor beaches for sharks, send warnings, and conduct rescues. Developed with techniques known as "deep learning", the Shark Spotter system receives imagery from the drone camera and attempts to identify all objects in the scene. Once certain objects are detected, they are put into one of 16 categories: shark, whale, dolphin, rays, different types of boats, surfers, and swimmers. If a shark is detected, Shark Spotter provides both a visual sign on the computer screen and an audible warning to the operator. The operator confirms the warning and sends text messages from the Shark Spotter system to the Surf Life Savers for further action. In an emergency, the drone is equipped with a lifesaving flotation pod (漂浮仓) together with an electronic shark repellent (驱逐装置) that can be dropped into the water in cases where swimmers are in severe trouble, trapped in a rip, or if there are sharks close by.In January 2018, the Westpac Little Ripper Lifesavers was used to rescue two young swimmers caught in a rip at Lennox Head, NSW. The drone flew down the beach some 800 meters from the lifeguard station, and a lifesaving flotation pod was dropped from the drone. The complete rescue operation took 70 seconds. We believe Shark Spotter is a win-win for both marine life and beachgoers. This unique technology combines dynamic video image processing AI and advanced drone technology to creatively deal with the global challenge of ensuring safe beaches, protecting environments, and promoting tourism.(1)A Shark Spotter is ________.A. a solution to monitor sharksB. an equipment to identify lifesaversC. a technology to prevent shark attacksD. a project to pioneer the use of drones(2)When a shark is spotted near a swimmer, the system will ________.A. take timely actionB. analyze the visual dataC. classify the identified objectsD. turn on "deep learning" mode(3)The example in the 5th paragraph shows us that the system is ________.A. efficient in saving livesB. effective in detecting sharksC. smart in driving sharks awayD. practical over the whole sea area(4)What is the author's attitude towards the future of SharkSpotter?A.Doubtful.B.Optimistic.C.Negative.D.Objective.【答案】(1)C(2)A(3)A(4)B【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了一种旨在防止鲨鱼袭击的技术Shark Spotter 的工作原理以及重要意义。

此时,要注意转折词,如:but, however, yet, in spite of, on the contrary等。

【易错点提醒一】标题类易混易错点【例1】(浙江省义乌五校2023-2024学年高三联考试题)The scientist’s job is to figure out how the world works, to “torture (拷问)” Nature to reveal her secrets, as the 17th century philosopher Francis Bacon described it. But who are these people in the lab coats (or sports jackets, or T-shirts and jeans) and how do they work? It turns out that there is a good deal of mystery surrounding the mystery-solvers.“One of the greatest mysteries is the question of what it is about human beings — brains, education, culture etc. that makes them capable of doing science at all,” said Colin Allen, a cognitive scientist at Indiana University. Two vital ingredients seem to be necessary to make a scientist: the curiosity to seek out mysteries and the creativity to solve them. “Scientists exhibit a heightened level of curiosity,” reads a 2007 report on scientific creativity. “They go further and deeper into basic questions showing a passion for knowledge for its own sake.” Max Planck, one of the fathers of quantum physics, once said, the scientist “must have a vivid and intuitive imagination, for new ideas are not generated by deduction (推论), but by an artistically creative imagination.”......ong as our best technology for seeing inside the brain requires subjects to lie nearly motionless while surrounded by a giant magnet, we’re only going to make limited pro gress on these questions,” Allen said. What is a suitable title for the text?A.Who Are The Mystery-solversB.Scientists Are Not Born But MadeC.Great Mystery: What Makes A ScientistD.Solving Mysteries: Inside A Scientist's Mind【答案】C【解析】文章标题。

Positive thinking is a significant element of happiness. In order to become a positive thinker, determination and consistency are important. The first thing to know about positive thinking is that everyone can do it. With certain cognitive (认知的) and behavioral changes, we can all become positive thinkers. Another important factor is that being a positive thinker does not mean you become numb to anything that is not working properly in your life or is negative - it just means that you approach life and face challenges with a healthier outlook.Instead of selectively attending to negative events, focus on the positive ones. Then pay attention to the delayed consequences of your behavior rather than the immediate ones. For example, if a job is not going like you want, focus on the fact that you have a job and how you can take your time to make the situation better.Challenge any internal attributions and see if you compare your behavior to standards that are excessively rigid and perfectionistic. If so, change these and be reasonable with your comparisons. For example, if you constantly compare your weaknesses with other people's strengths, then switch this and compare yourself with those who are doing poorer than you as well. Overall, people who focus more on their strengths than their weaknesses but at the same time are aware of their weaknesses have a healthier self-evaluation result. When faced with too much fear about a situation, imagine the worst case and visualize a solution for it, then let go of fear. This way, you will be prepared for anything and your fear will not block you from being open and creative to different solutions. For example, if you are constantly worried about losing your job up to a point where it is creating a lot of anxiety and fear and is effecting your performance and your happiness negatively, then think of losing your job, visualize how you will handle it, find solutions in your mind and then let go of the thought and the fear attached to it.So positive thinkers are better problem solvers and have better interactions. In addition to that, people who are positive thinkers are happier and more satisfied with their life.(1)Why is positive thinking a significant element of happiness?A. It means that one is blind to the troubles and difficulties that exist.B. It means that one constantly compares everything with other people's.C. It means that one is strong in mind and has nothing to be afraid of.D. It means that one approaches life and faces challenges more healthily.(2)What does the text suggest about the job you don't like?A. Quitting it and finding a better one.B. Keeping and trying to make it better.C. Being negative and numb to it.D. Challenging yourself with a new outlook.(3)What does the author intend to tell us in paragraph 4?A. Be prepared for the worst: and let go of fear.B. Being constantly worried will lose your job.C. Fear will prevent you being open and creative.D. There is nothing to fear if well prepared.(4)What can be a suitable title for the text?A. How to focus on the positive eventsB. How to be a positive thinkerC. What to do when faced with fearD. What to know of self-evaluation【答案】(1)D(2)B(3)A(4)B【解析】【分析】本文为是一篇议论文,积极的思考是幸福的重要组成部分。

1. A man with a bleeding hand hurried in and asked, "Is there a hospital around ______ I can get some medicine for my wounded hand?"A. thatB. whichC. whereD. what【错因分析】容易误选B,以为around是介词,选which用以代替前面的名词hospital,在此用作介词around的宾语。

C2. She says that she’ll never forget the time ________ she’s spent working as a secretary in our company.A. whichB. whenC. howD. where【错因分析】容易误选B,机械地以为时间名词后必需用关系副词when,地址名词后用关系副词where。

1. The boss of the company is trying to create an easy atmosphere ______ his employeesenjoy their work.A. whereB. whichC. whenD. who【答案】A【名师点睛】定语从句是高考重点考查知识之一,分析定语从句需要牢牢抓住两点:第一、找准先行词。

The term "smiling depression" —appearing happy to others while actually suffering depressive symptoms—has become increasingly popular. In fact, many people who experience a low mood and a loss of pleasure in activities manage to hide their condition in this way. And these people might be particularly easy to suicide. While smiling depression is not a technical term that psychologists use,it is certain to be depressed and manage to successfully mask the symptoms. The closest technical term for this condition is "atypical depression: It can be very hard to spot people suffering depression because they may seem like they don't have a reason to be sad —they have a job, an apartment and maybe even children or a partner. They smile when you greet them and can carry pleasant conversations. In short, they often put on a mask to the outside world while leading seemingly normal and active lives. Inside, however, they often feel hopeless and down, sometimes even having thoughts about ending it all.People with smiling depression put on a happy face to the outside world, but they can experience a lift in their mood as a result of positive occurrences in their lives. Other symptoms of this condition include overeating, feeling a sense of heaviness in the arms and legs and being easily hurt by criticism or rejection. They are also more likely to feel depressed in the evening and feel the need to sleep longer than usual. With other forms of depression, however, your mood might be worse in the morning and you might feel the need for less sleep than you are normally used to.So how can they break this circle? A starting point needs to be known that this condition actually exists and that it's serious. Only when we stop ignoring our problems because we think they're not serious enough can we start making an actual difference. Then we can find purpose by taking the attention away from ourselves and placing it onto something else. Feeling that our lives matter is finally what gives us purpose and meaning —and this can make a significant difference for our mental health and well-being.(1)What do we know about people suffering smiling depression?A. 即what, which.where, why, how, when等词之间的混淆。

例1. One of the biggest cultural differences I noticed while I was in London was why the people of London conducted themselves.
