Am I in a Classless society
《欲望都市》英文剧本第二季第十集

210 the caste systemHere are some things I love about New York:That week in spring when it's warm, but not hot......and the trees are just be-ginning to bloom.Men in suits.Three papers and 12 gossip columns. It's easy for me to say, ''I love you, New York.'' It's not so easy to say, ''I love you, Mr. Big.'' The first time I re-alized I actually loved Big......was over toast and coffee one morning. What? Thanks, honey.What?Nothing.The first time I felt like saying it was the night he took me to the ballet. And he hates the ballet.I don't want to disappoint you.A couple of those dancers were on wires. They were not.On a couple of those big leaps I saw the wires. You know what? What?I Love...your hair like that.Cut it out.And then there was the time I never expected to say it.Last Friday night at approximately 7:20 p.m. ... ...Big was picking me up to take me out to dinner.I just have to change my shoes.Hurry, we don't want to be late.If we grab a cab on Madison, we can be there in five minutes. Here. What's this for?I just saw it and thought of you.It was just wrong. It was wrong.I didn't know what to say except.I Love you.You told Big, ''I Love you'', because he gave you that? What did you think it was, a large dia-mond duck ring?I think my mother has one in the shape of a squirrel.Note that I did not say, ''I Love the purse.''What did he say?He just......sort of reacted stunned for a moment and then he said. You're welcome.I'll just wait for you outside.Maybe he thought you said, ''I Love it.''It was a very deliberate and distinct ''you.''He just pretended you didn't say it?Yeah, but we both know I did.I've laid down the gauntlet. He has to say ''I Love you'' back or I have to break up with him.How long are you giving him?I didn't put an expiration date on it.It's got the shelf life of a dairy prod-uct, It'll curdle in a week. It's so interesting.Tell a man, ''I hate you'', you'll have the best sex of your life. But tell him, ''I Love you'', you'll proba-bly never see him again. That's very comforting right now.Wait a minute. Time out.Did you ever think that at this very moment......the man might be trying to find his way to tell Carrie that he loves her?Listening to Miranda wax optimistic about love......was more disorienting than a heat wave in February. It seemed that Miranda, love's greatest skeptic......had recently experienced a romantic epiphany. Grab us a seat outside and I'll meet you out there. Will you let me pay this time?Your money's no good here.Grab us a bench.ALL right. How much?$5.90.She was dating a bartender who wor-shiped her.Miranda was so crazy about him in re-turn......she let him take her out to din-ner.But only to places she knew he could afford.Best slices in the city, don't you think?Saturday, my firm is having its annual dinner thing.I was wondering if you think the bar Could spare you, you could be my date.I warn you, it'll be totally boring. It's not gonna be boringif I'm there with you.You probably should wear a suit. It's gonna be a big fancy affair. You do have a suit, right?Sure, I do.It's really nice. It's gold. It's gold?Yeah, corduroy. What's wrong with corduroy?I don't have enough time to tell you what's wrong with corduroy. For the first time, Steve took Miranda back to his place. This is your apartment. You Like? It's sweet.I modeled it after DeNiro's place In Taxi Driver.I'm kidding. It's cheap and it's near the bar.You never have to come here again. That evening Miranda experienced her first pangs of yuppie guilt.A lot of wonderful artists worked as bartenders for years. It doesn't mean he won'tmake money some day. He's not an artist, slash, bartender. He's just happy being a bartender, pe-riod.No aspirations beyond shaking cock-tails and refilling peanut Bowls. How's he in bed? There are no words.Sounds like a dream relationship to me.He can make you cum, then make you a Cosmopolitan. How can you get serious with a guy whose entire future is based on tips?Wait a minute.Rich men date notsorich women all the time.Look at me and Big.It's not about money, it's about com-patibility.It's normal for the guy to have more money.I know lots of women who make more money than their husbands. You're all missing my point.None of this matters to me.I don't want it to matter to him. When Single men have money, it's to their advantage. If a Single woman has money, it's a problem to be dealt with. It's ridiculous. I want to enjoy my suc-cess, not apologize for it.Bravo, honey. You're talking about more than a dif-ference in income. You're talking about a difference in background and education. This guy is working class.Working class? It's the Millennium. We don't say ''working class'' anymore. You're trying to pretend we live in a classless society......and we don't. Marie Antoinette, we get the picture.Thank you. She's right.I'm dating a guy right now and he's got an actual servant. It seems that Samantha was dating Harvey Terkel......a real estate investor who had just made a killing in the market......turning Chelsea sweatshops into luxury coops for the upwardly trendy.Sum is a fantastic cook. You won't eat better Thai food in Bangkok. More, Mr. Harvey?Yes, please. You like spicy like Mr. Harvey, miss?I Love spicy.Enjoy.Isn't she the best?I could not live without her.I wondered, was New York really any different from New Delhi?Had our class system been replaced by a caste system? And if so, can we date outside our caste? That night, Big took me out for a ro-mantic dinner.I could smell it coming the way you can smell a thunderstorm coming.A mere two days after I had said, ''I love you''... ...Big had found his own way to say ''I love you'' to me.You're gonna Love this. It's from a small winery in the heart of Tuscany.Delicioso.I rented a villa there one summer with the ex.It was incredible.I've always wanted to go back with someone I actually liked. There's something I've been meaning to tell you ever since......the night I gave you the purse: You can take it back, if you don't like it.That became the first night I wanted to tell Big... ...''I hate you''.The next afternoon, Charlotte made the acquaintance......of a member of the very highest caste.A caste that from coast to coast, rich and poor......everyone deferred to and honored without question......the movie star.I'm Charlotte York.I'm the director of the gallery.Wiley Ford.I know. How much for this piece? The fire extinguisher? That's a real fire extinguisher. For the gallery, in case there's a fire.I guess I'm a total idiot. No, it happens all the time. You can have it. Take it.You can say you got it at the gallery.People will probably think it's a Jeff Koons. You are adorable. What do you think about closing up for the rest of the afternoon?Charlene, you are so hot. Can't wait to get you to bed.Charlotte. My name is Charlotte.I prefer Charlene. This champagne is running through me.Yo, bud, pull over, I need to take a leak.Sit tight, beautiful. You'll never believe where I am.I'm in the back of a limo about to go have sex with Wiley Ford.Where is he now? He's taking a leak out in the alley, isn't that cute? It's adorable. Charlotte, listen to me, get out of there immediately. All my rules just went right out the window. It's like, he wants me and I have to obey. He's zipping up, gotta go.While Charlotte began to enjoy the perks of celebrity......Samantha discov-ered Harvey Terkel came with some nice perks of his own.Stay in bed as Long as you want.Sum will make you breakfast. That's really not necessary. Please, she loves it.Do you like fresh orange or grape-fruit?Orange.Orange.Eggs?Coddled.Coming right up.I'll call you. While Samantha didn't believe in hav-ing servants......she had no problem dating a man who did.She knew it might take some adjust-ing, but she could get used to it.Bye, Sum. Take good care of Saman-tha.Bye, Mr. Harvey.Okay, lazy bones, out of bed.Excuse me?Up, must wash sheets.Should I have my breakfastin the dining room Breakfast? I got no time to make breakfast.Got a lot of work to do around here.It was then Samantha realized that Sum was not so servile after all. That afternoon during her lunch break,Miranda took Steve shopping.Thank you. You're welcome. What do you think?I think it's frightening how good I Look. It's a beautiful suit.I think we should take it.Could you do a cuff with a nice break? Will these be the shoes?I think we should take the shoes.Don't you think so?I guess we're taking the shoes.Just like that.I guess I better not spill anything.Don't worry. It's my treat. What?I invited you, I want to pay for the suit.No way, you're not buying me a suit.I wanted to do this for you. Then I start to think of you like my mother and that can get a little weird for me.Sorry, sir, it was declined.Would you like to try another one?Why don't you try mine? How about this?Let's try $800 on the card, I'll write a check for $1,000 and the rest in cash.Forget it. It's too expensive.Would you just let me buy the fucking suit? That Saturday, Big took me to a cock-tail party......at the home of Sarina Bush...Great purse, fabulous. Careful! White rugs....an Upper East side hostess famous for her husband's money......and a close friendship With Tina Brown.I knew her 10 years ago when she was famous for......her father's money and a close friendship With her drug dealer.God, I hate Park Avenue. It's like being in a foreign country.Just think of me as your passport, ba-by.As we walked through the room......of women clutching their bejeweled swan, kitten and asparagus purses......I realized to my horror that not only did Big not love me......he had absolutely no idea who I was.Can I get you a drink?Tanqueray and tonic.Carrie, a drink?Red wine, please.I'm sorry, Ms. Bush doesn'tserve any brown food or drink. Can I get you something clear?V odka on the rocks. No brown food?I think we've encountered a mutant strain of Upper East Side anal. She's a little strange.I've known her for years, she's okay.I'm sure she's fabulous until you spill something. It's like she's trying to cultivate an ec-centricity......so people won't notice she's completely devoid of personality.Don't be a bitch.I'm not, I'm being myself. You're being a bit of a bitch.Sweetheart! How are you? It's been forever.Thank you for having us.Sarina, you know Carrie.Darling, you can't smoke in here.Terrace.That's where I'll be.Just like that, I was cast out of the fan-cy party.Charlotte found herself the newest member of Wiley Ford's entourage. When did marijuana become legal in restaurants? It didn't.Here.No, thank you.I don't smoke pot.You do now.Sum was very rude to me the other morning. She practically threw me out of bed.You must've misunderstood. Her English isn't really that good.More asparagus, Miss?It was then Samantha realized......she wasn't so dim, that Sum.That night, I realized that relation-ships had a caste system of their own. There's the person who says, ''I love you.''And there's the person who never re-sponds.What are you doing here?Purveying the beverages.Just snuck out here to smoke.Good.Are you friends with these people?God, no.A little uptight. What's with the no brown food deal?Whatever.Jeremiah was a famous downtown performance artist......who was best known uptown as: ''Kid, give me an-other scotch and soda.'' We had en-gaged in a mild flirtation for years.Who're you here with? Some guy.I got a new tattoo, want to see it?Is that real?Yeah, it's real. How far down does that go?Pretty far.Check it out.Shit.Excuse me.Shit.Were you really giving the caterer a blow job? First of all, he's not a caterer. He's a well-known performance artist. That didn't answer my question.Because it was offensive.Whatever you were doing, please stop. You're embarrassing me.I'm embarrassing you?If you'd joined me on the terraceLike a gentleman......we wouldn't be having this conversation.Let's just go. You go, I'm having a good time. And across town, Miranda was late for the firm dinner. Why are you dressed like that?I returned the suit.Frankly, I couldn't afford it.Then why didn't you let me pay for it?Miranda, you need to be with a guy who's more on your level.Being in that store with you......I didn't feel good about myself.I think you're an incredible lady. You want to break up with me over a suit?Fuck the suit. It's not just the suit. There's always gonna be things out of my reach.I'm being punished for being success-ful. That's not how I mean it.Got it. Thanks for the info and for standing me up.It's been nice knowing you.An hour later, adrift in a sea of Italian wool crepe......Miranda wondered what was really so wrong with cor-duroy, anyway. In the space of one evening, Charlotte had gone from girlfriend......to groupie.Who had the rum and coke?Charlotte realized, another moment at the top... ...and she would have be-come an Untouchable.''Jeremiah was a bullfrog ''Was a good friend of mine ''I never understood a Single word he said ''But I helped him drink his wine'' After Jeremiah got fired,we celebrated downtown......With a couple of pitchers of Margaritas.''Joy to the world ''ALL the boys and girls ''Joy to the ''Joy to the fishes in the deep blue'' I don't live here .''Joy to you and me'' That was the last thing I remembered that night.''If I were the king of the world'' You just relax.I will. I'm gonna go grab a shower.Excuse me.Nasty. Nasty girl. You dirty cock sucking whore.Must wash sheets right away.Stop it! Let go. You're crazy. What's going on out here?I'm so sorry.I just tried to wash the sheets, but that lady hit me. How dare you treat Sum that way. Let me explain. No! There's no explanation.Just get out of here.Samantha realized there was only room for one woman in Harvey's life.Jesus.Listen......I know what you're really pissed off about. It's just something I gotta do in my own time.Okay?I fucking Love you.All right? You know I do.Good morning. It's just a tough thing for me to say......because it always seems to get me in trouble when I say it. Okay?Okay. Are we okay? We're great.I Love you, too.I'll call you later, okay?Did we?Definitely not.I didn't think so.I felt like I was the lowest of the low.I never told Mr. Big.I figured everything before ''I love you'' just doesn't count.。
红色精神的演讲英语作文

红色精神的演讲英语作文The term "Red Spirit" evokes a potent mix of emotions and imagery, often associated with sacrifice, revolution, and unwavering commitment. It signifies a burning passion for justice, a relentless pursuit of ideals, and an unyielding spirit in the face of adversity. Throughout history, this spirit has manifested in countless forms, from the fiery revolutionaries who dared to challenge oppressive regimes to the everyday heroes who strive to make the world a better place. Understanding its multifaceted nature requires exploring its historical context, its core values, and its enduring relevance in a contemporary world. The roots of the Red Spirit can be traced back to historical moments of immense social and political upheaval. The French Revolution, with its cry for liberty, equality, and fraternity, saw ordinary citizens rise up against a tyrannical monarchy, their actions fueled by a passionate belief in a more just and equitable society. Similarly, the Russian Revolution, driven by the ideals of communism and the promise of a classless society, witnessed a momentous shift in power dynamics, forever altering the course of history. These events, while geographically and ideologically diverse, shared a common thread: the unwavering belief in the power of collective action to dismantle oppressive systems and strive towards a brighter future. At its core, the Red Spirit embodies a set of values that transcend geographical boundaries and historical epochs. Courage, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to a cause greater than oneself are central tenets of this ethos. It encourages individuals to step outside their comfort zones, to challenge the status quo, and to fight for what they believe in, even in the face of formidable obstacles. This spirit manifests itself not only in grand revolutionary movements but also in the everyday acts of individuals who strive to make a positive impact on their communities. The Red Spirit finds its contemporary relevance in a world grappling with complex challenges, from climate change and economic inequality to social injustice and political polarization. The very values that fueled past revolutions – courage, compassion, and a commitment to a fairer world – are crucial in navigating these turbulent times. Whether it's advocating for environmental sustainability, fighting for social justice, or simply extending a helping hand to those in need, the Red Spirit inspiresindividuals to become agents of positive change. It's a reminder that even in the face of daunting obstacles, our collective actions can make a difference. However, it's essential to acknowledge that the Red Spirit, while inspiring, also carries a cautionary tale. History has shown that revolutions, even those born out of noble intentions, can sometimes lead to unintended consequences. The pursuit of utopia can, in some instances, morph into authoritarianism and oppression, with the very ideals that fueled the initial revolution becoming distorted and misused. It's crucial to remember that the true essence of the Red Spirit lies not in blind devotion to ideology but in the unwavering commitment to human dignity, compassion, and the pursuit of a more just and equitable world. The legacy of the Red Spirit lies in its ability to inspire and mobilize individuals across generations. It's a testament to the enduring power of hope, courage, and the unwavering belief in the possibility of a better future. It serves as a potent reminder that even in the darkest of times, the human spirit, fueled by the pursuit of justice and equality, can ignite change and shape the course of history. The Red Spirit is not merely a relic of the past; it's a living, breathing force that continues to inspire individuals to strive for a world where all people are treated with dignity and respect, where opportunity is not determined by circumstance, and where thepursuit of a brighter future remains an unwavering goal.。
我对世界上不同政治制度的态度英语作文

我对世界上不同政治制度的态度英语作文全文共3篇示例,供读者参考篇1My Attitude towards Different Political Systems in the WorldIntroductionThe world is comprised of various countries, each with its unique political system. From democracy to monarchy, communism to dictatorship, there are a plethora of political systems that govern different nations. As a global citizen, I have formed attitudes and opinions towards these diverse political systems based on my observations, beliefs, and experiences. In this essay, I will explore and discuss my attitudes towards different political systems around the world.DemocracyDemocracy is a political system where the power lies in the hands of the people who elect their representatives through free and fair elections. As a firm believer in democracy, I see it as the most just and fair political system. It allows for the participation of citizens in decision-making processes, ensures fundamental rights and freedoms, and promotes accountability andtransparency. In my opinion, democracy fosters equality, tolerance, and diversity, making it the ideal system for promoting peace and prosperity.MonarchyMonarchy is a political system where power is vested in a single ruler, usually a king or queen, who inherits the position through hereditary means. While monarchies have evolved over time and many are now constitutional monarchies with limited powers, I still hold reservations about this political system. Monarchies can sometimes lead to abuses of power, lack of accountability, and inequality among citizens. However, I do recognize that some monarchies have adapted to modern times and exist in harmony with democratic principles.CommunismCommunism is a political ideology that advocates for a classless society where all property is owned collectively by the people. While the idea of equality and social justice in communism is appealing, I have concerns about the practical implementation of this system. History has shown that communist regimes can be authoritarian, repressive, and prone to human rights abuses. However, I acknowledge that there arevariations of communism, such as democratic socialism, that combine socialist principles with democratic governance.DictatorshipDictatorship is a political system where power is concentrated in the hands of a single leader or a small group of individuals who rule with absolute authority. I have a strong aversion towards dictatorship as it often leads to oppression, censorship, and violations of human rights. The lack of accountability and transparency in dictatorships can impede progress, stifle creativity, and hinder societal development. As such, I believe that dictatorship is not a sustainable or morally justifiable form of governance.ConclusionIn conclusion, my attitudes towards different political systems in the world are shaped by my values, principles, and beliefs. While I hold democracy in high regard for its promotion of freedom, equality, and justice, I also recognize the complexities and nuances of other political systems such as monarchy, communism, and dictatorship. As a global citizen, I believe in the importance of understanding and respecting diverse political systems while advocating for principles of democracy, human rights, and good governance. By engaging inconstructive dialogue, promoting civic engagement, and advocating for positive change, we can contribute to the betterment of societies and the advancement of democracy worldwide.篇2My Attitude towards Different Political Systems around the WorldIntroductionAs a global citizen, I have always been interested in exploring and understanding the different political systems that exist in the world. From democracies to monarchies, from dictatorships to socialist states, each political system has its own strengths and weaknesses. In this essay, I will discuss my attitude towards different political systems around the world and how they impact the lives of people living within them.DemocracyFirst and foremost, democracy is a political system that I strongly believe in and support. Democracy is a system wherein the people have the power to elect their leaders and hold them accountable for their actions. It ensures that the voices of the citizens are heard and that their rights and freedoms areprotected. In democracies, there are checks and balances in place to prevent abuse of power and ensure the rule of law. Countries like the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom are prime examples of thriving democracies where the rights of individuals are respected and protected.MonarchyMonarchies, on the other hand, are political systems where the power is vested in a single monarch or royal family. While some monarchies have evolved into constitutional monarchies where the monarch's powers are limited by a constitution, others still maintain absolute power. Monarchies can provide stability and continuity in government, but they can also lack accountability and transparency. Countries like the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia operate as absolute monarchies where the monarch's word is law.DictatorshipDictatorships are political systems where a single leader or a small group of individuals hold all the power. In dictatorships, the rights and freedoms of the citizens are often suppressed, and dissent is met with harsh punishment. North Korea and Syria are examples of countries ruled by dictators who prioritize their own interests over the well-being of their people. Dictatorships canstifle economic growth and innovation, as well as create an atmosphere of fear and oppression.SocialismSocialism is a political system that aims to redistribute wealth and resources to create a more equitable society. In socialist states, the government plays a significant role in providing social services such as healthcare, education, and housing. While socialism can promote social welfare and reduce income inequality, it can also lead to inefficiency and lack of incentive for innovation. Countries like Cuba and Venezuela have socialist governments that have faced challenges in delivering basic services to their citizens.ConclusionIn conclusion, my attitude towards different political systems around the world is one of understanding and critical analysis. While I believe in the principles of democracy and the importance of protecting individual rights and freedoms, I also recognize that each political system has its own complexities and challenges. It is essential for us as global citizens to be informed and engaged in the political processes of our own countries and to advocate for positive change wherever it is needed. Byworking together, we can create a more just and equitable world for all.篇3My Attitude towards Different Political Systems in the WorldIn the world today, there are various political systems in place that govern different countries. These political systems include democracy, dictatorship, monarchy, communism, and many others. Each of these systems has its own set of principles, values, and rules that dictate the way a country is governed. As a global citizen, I believe it is important to have an open-minded and understanding attitude towards the different political systems that exist in the world.First and foremost, I believe that democracy is the most ideal form of government. Democracy allows for freedom of speech, free and fair elections, and the protection of human rights. Citizens have the power to elect their leaders and hold them accountable for their actions. Democracy promotes equality, diversity, and the rule of law. It fosters a sense of unity and collaboration among people, as they work together to build a better society. As such, I highly respect and support democratic systems of government. On the other hand, there are political systems such as dictatorship and monarchy that do not uphold democratic values. In these systems, power is concentrated in the hands of a single ruler or a small group of individuals. The rights and freedoms of citizens are often restricted, and dissent is not tolerated. While these systems may be effective in maintaining stability and order, they can also lead to oppression, corruption, and abuse of power. As a result, I am critical of dictatorships and monarchies, as they do not prioritize the wellbeing and interests of the people.Communism is another political system that has been implemented in various countries around the world. Communism advocates for the collective ownership of resources and the abolition of social classes. While the principles of communism are based on equality and solidarity, in practice, communist regimes have often been characterized by authoritarianism, censorship, and human rights abuses. As such, I believe that the implementation of communism has often failed to achieve its intended goals and has led to negative consequences for the population. In addition to these political systems, there are also hybrid systems that combine elements of different forms of government. For example, some countries may have aparliamentary system in which the executive branch is accountable to the legislature, while others may have a federal system in which power is shared between the central government and regional authorities. These hybrid systems can be effective in promoting good governance and ensuring a balance of power. As such, I view these systems as an innovative approach to governance that can address the unique needs and challenges of a country.Overall, my attitude towards different political systems in the world is one of respect, critical thinking, and openness. While I believe that democracy is the most ideal form of government, I also recognize that each system has its own strengths and weaknesses. It is important to approach the study of political systems with an open mind and a willingness to learn from different perspectives. By understanding the complexities of governance and the diversity of political systems, we can work towards creating a more just, peaceful, and inclusive world for all.。
american dream

The term ‚American Dream ‛ is used in a number of ways, but essentially the American Dream is an idea which suggests that all people can succeed through hard work, and that all people have the potential to live happy, successful lives. Many people have expanded upon or refined the definition of the American Dream, and this concept has also been subject to a fair amount of criticism. Many people believe that the structure of American society belies the idealistic goal of the American Dream, pointing to examples of inequality rooted in class, race, and ethnic origin which suggest that the American Dream is not attainable for all.The idea of an American Dream is older than the United States, dating back to the 1600s, when people began to come up with all sorts of hopes and aspirations for the new and largely unexplored continent. Many of these dreams focused on owning land and establishing prosperous businesses which would theoretically generate happiness, and some people also incorporated ideals of religious freedom into their American Dreams. During the Great Depression, several people wrote about an American Dream, codifying the concept and entrenching it in American society. For people who believe in the American dream, anything is attainable through hard work . The concept plays on the idea that American is a classless society, although it is obviously not, as any honest examination of the United States will reveal. T he idealistic vision of the American Dream also assumes that people are not discriminated against on the basis of race, religion, gender, and national origin, another thing which is unfortunately not true in the United States. Critics of the American dream also point out that many versions of the dream equate prosperity with happiness , and that happiness may not always be that simple. These critics suggest that the American Dream may always remain tantalizingly out of reach for some Americans, making it more like a cruel joke than a genuine dream.People with a more skeptical view of the American Dream sometimes say that the American Dream represents the possibility of living better than your parents did , and a desire among parents for their children to lead happy lives. This is e specially true in the immigrant community, as many immigrants have come from extremely difficult circumstances. Some one who manages to achieve his or her version of the American Dream may be said to be ‚living the dream ,‛ and everyone has a unique interpretation of what the American Dream might be. Fundamentally, the American Dream is about hope and the potential for change , and one could argue that people who enact change in some way, even a small way, are living the dream.Discuss this Articleanon226720Post 98 We only called it the American Dream because we are americans, but the truthis every human being has dreams and goals. After reading many posts, I can seeeveryone is correct because the dream is extensive and infinite, just like your ideas.Calling it the American Dream, I would think of freedom, liberty, to wake upin the morning and without being questioned and go after whatever your dreamswere the night before.anon206543 Post 92 The American Dream is that a black man from Kansas can become the most powerful man in the world in this country. 'Nuff said.anon185573 Post 89 Nowadays it is certainly not easy to life the American dream, but i think we should never forget that money is not everything in life. Some amount of materials, money or other goods are not as important as a healthy family in your background. In times of globalization it has become more and more important to be happy with small things. The next point is that you can live this dream today also in other parts all over the world, for instance, in Austria or moreover, in Europe. But take care that it is really your dream and then try every day to give your best, never give up, push yourself and try to gain as much experience as possible. Then each of us can achieve much more than you think.anon180241 Post 85 The american dream is subjective. Lets not forget what the latter half of the phrase is.I have enjoyed reading the article and the comments. There have been proponents of both sides of the debate and i love this rapport. I don't usually do the "post my opinion" thing, but i have been inspired by a few things i have read.First, i would like to speak to the students using this as a resource for a paper on the american dream. Yes, the ideas are great, but on such a subject i would search myself for what the dream means. Ideas and opinions are great, but it is your interpretation that makes it the dream. Easy paper? Ok, it has to be five pages or something. I'd say my dream is to have a single paragraph count as five pages, then debate it (extensively) with the teacher until they cave.A lot of my teachers hated me, but in the best way possible.Second, this one is to number 9. This is not intended to be a personal attack, but i feel that somehow it will come across as such. The person who taught this in school is extremely cynical. However, that viewpoint does apply to all greedy people. Not all are so greedy, you just don't notice them for their lack of whining about everything. I once learned in school that the u.s. won the vietnam war. Just in case you learned that too, we lost. For my last trick, i will attempt to explain what the american dream means to me. At the core, the idea is about progression, the idea that things will get better. If i am lying to myself, it beats being lied to by someone else.Seriously, it means being kind, decent, and respectful of others no matter what the cost. I'm not talking about being a doormat either. Its about supporting your neighbors and helping someone in need if you can. Helping someone can beas simple as having a two-minute conversation with a complete stranger and just asking them how they are today. This is only one of many ways to show you care about others. I do my best to live up to it, but invariably fall short at times. But life isn't about how many times you fail, it's about the successes! One man made me realize that idea. His name was Thomas Edison. Inventor of the light bulb, something within plain view of all who read this. He failed so many times trying to make it work over many years, but when he had success with it, well, the rest is history. He is not remembered as the guy who wasted years of his life failing at something; he is remembered as the man who invented the incandescent bulb. We should all hope to leave such a mark on humanity.I didn't really mean for this to be so long but look what happened. Oh well.Cheers, everyone!anon159810 Post 79 The American Dream is the hope that every one of us has the chance to be all we can be.It is being blown away by the takeover of predatory international monopolies who are buying elections and "our" (ha ha) legislators and our airwaves for their propaganda. They are the new Big Brother and we are fast becoming America Inc.anon152348 Post 78 I do believe the American Dream is possible, just that people nowadays forgot that America was not built in one day, neither in a year. That same frame of thinking applies to the American Dream. For some it may take decades, for others, it may easily become true in a year, and yet, we all are responsible for making it come true for every American citizen.Hard work actually means a lot of things like working smart, working better, working safer and working much much more productive each way, and yet, not everybody can make it the whole way. We should never forget we are humans and we get sick, and that may compromise the American Dream even more, and yet I think it doesn't compromise it at all.Once we achieve it, what is next?I believe it would be to perfect it and to enjoy the fruits coming out of it, for our quota would be done, and next generations will be enhanced and allow newer and better solutions, as long as humanity does not lose the track and does not become egocentric and too greedy to know what is valuable and what is a tool.To me, money is a tool, I may not be rich, and yet, If i work hard and If I have my bills paid, I may be happy enough to tell I'am satisfied. For some others, it may be a miserable view and a miserable perspective. It is relative to everyone's ambitions! --AC S.anon150377 Post 76 I rather resent the opinion of those that the American Dream can be achieved from working harder. My entire life has been spent working hard and saving at the expense of enjoying the day I was living in. At the end of 20 years after saving every penny, working to the maximum and experiencing very little outside work, what I have to show for these efforts is three emergency visits to the hospital for exhaustion, Where I was advised to take it easy; one hemorrhaged disk, medical bills that I worked even harder to cover and landed myself in the hospital again against much protestation. (I collapsed at work and an ambulance was called) After a few days in the (which my insurance wouldn't cover) I thought about it.I've been working my whole life for an unattainable goal. I've robbed myself of 20 years of experiences so that I could be at work to overachieve without award. The whole time I was working and going to school to get a better job.I never got the better job and am still paying back the loans. I was grateful for the opportunity I had to have a job and never questioned that faith to continue killing myself while wearing thrift store bargains and residing in a lower income area and having the marvelous experience of being persecuted for my beliefs.Life? Liberty? Pursuit of happiness? Well, OK, I have pursued happiness but what happened to equality? What happened to that dream? Now, I am in the wonderful position of not having a job because after this last hospitalization I've been diagnosed with degenerative bone disease and a heart condition that is inoperable caused by chronic stress and exhaustion.I think I can say at this point that I've worked hard enough to attain the dream. The dream still remains elusive.anon138158 Post 66 To me the American dream is to have all the necessities of life, including opportunity to have the fruits of your labor. If people work and do not get ahead, do not better themselves, what is the point? The American dream is to have all the basics that all people share. That means a normal portion of water, food, shelter, clothing, fuel, friends, and opportunities to improve life.anon134498 Post 63 Just because the American Dream doesn't happen for everybody -- or doesn't happen the way someone wants it -- doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. America is the land of opportunity, and offers freedom and chances to those who aren't ableto acquire it elsewhere. T hat was what the American Dream originally was and, if you think about it, it's still true today.anon63741 Post 28 I don't agree with 35977. I know that that is probably not your opinion of it though. I think that we can achieve the American Dream if we work hard enough. We have to! As a lot of my friends and family say, great things come from hard work. If you work hard, great things will happen to you.anon45383 Post 15 I think that everybody has their own interpretation of the American Dream, but all within a similar context. At one point or another, every single citizen of the United States of America is given the opportunity to achieve their American Dream. However, people become very confused and mistake the fact that our opportunity is *not* a guarantee. Only you, as an individual, can achieve your dream. But nowhere does it say that *everyone* can live it.opmom Post 4 anon25375: Despite your rosy outlook on attaining the American Dream, I think that many can and continue to make their dreams come true. While the dream may have evolved over the decades, the bottom line is that the *opportunity* is still there. I know immigrants who came here with nothing, who worked, and scrimped and saved and established successful businesses, provided comfortable homes for their children, and are giving them the opportunity to accomplish their own goals. Did they accomplish the "American Dream?" Maybe, maybe not. While there may be a stereotype of what that dream is, it's different for everyone.anon25375 Post 3 The ability to do whatever you want is the aspect of the American Dream that we as North Americans have to wake up from. It should be re-written to read. "You can do whatever you want so long as you can afford it and with that we will give you no help." If read that way the "Dream becomes far more reflecting of reality. Minimum $40,000 debt for University, A minimum wage job which doesn't make ends meet. No pension plan, On average some of the worst health care in the developed world (Canada, and low level American Hospitals 18 and 37 Overall Distribution (1997) Respectively). What about that is a Dream to me it is a Nightmare.spasiba Post 1 No society can have one hundred percent of liberty, equality, fairness, happiness etc available to all its citizens at all time. But United States, thanks to our wise founding fathers comes pretty close to it.Perfection is just not humanly possible. Since we all have failings, we will undoubtedly do imperfect things. The task for all of us is to strive to be better,to work toward, a nd to uplift what is the best and highest in ourselves. Andto that end, United States offers to all of us this opportunity. It is one ofthe best countries the world has ever known. People from all over the world come, and many more would give anything for the opportunity to come and live in theUnited States.Critics of the American dream also point out that many versions of the dream equate prosperity with happiness, and that happiness may not always be that simple. These critics suggest that the American Dream may always remain tantalizingly out of reach for some Americans, making it more like a cruel joke than a genuine dream. Some amount of materials, money or other goods are not as important as a healthy family in your background. In times of globalization it has become more and more important to be happy with small things. The American Dream is not about money, like people think. In fact, I believe that the American Dream is to be happy in life. Money does not make happiness and until people realize this The American Dream will be lost in time.I feel that the "American Dream" of yesterday is no longer the "American Dream" of today. Once, to live the "American Dream" meant that if you worked hard you could (and would) live a successful life. This meant you could support yourself (and your family) and you also felt fulfilled on an individual level. Nowadays, I feel that is no longer the case. There are many people who work hard and still barely get by. They also may be so busy struggling to support their loved ones that they have no real time to focus on their own wants and needs. It seems to me that now the "American Dream" has become a rather materialistic one in which individuals seek to barely work, but possess many things. I blame it on consumerism and our new obsession with having things complete us.anon162764 Post 80 this is pretty interesting, useful stuff, but yeah, many people have achieved the american dream. it not all about material things. look at martin luther king jr. his american dream wasn't material, but equality. racial equality. he followed it till the end. it was a costly dream yes, but a powerful one.anon180796 Post 86 The American Dream is not about money, like people think. In fact, I believe that the American Dream is to be happy in life. Money does not make happiness and until people realize this The American Dream will be lost in time.To me the American Dream is the liberty offered to its citizens; the freedom to attend school, to start a business, to work, to pray if you want to, and not how many things I own. Material possessions, albeit nice, are not what life and happiness are all about. As a matter of fact happiness is not directly proportional to material possessions. Happiness comes from appreciating and being grateful for what we do have.anon35977 Post 9 We learned at school that the American Dream is never obtainable because humans will never learn to be fully happy with their lives and position; they will always strive for more and never be fulfilled with everything that they have...thus, the American Dream is never achieved.anon135207 Post 65 the american dream is a nothing but a tool used by the rich to keep the poor in their place. Think about it: class distinctions are evident in this american society. We worships nothing but sex and money.Religion is dead and our truth is a truth that is fed to us at a young age by TV. The rich fear losing us as their workers, so by instituting an imagination of the American dream the rich keep us working hard for them while we hope that we will be one day be "living the dream" but we won't.If you even try to argue that there aren't social classes in america, then just look in your wallet and notice that feeling developing; it's called greed. To Number 9, it's a shame that you have a teacher that would give you such a message. It is not true that all humans are incapable of being happy with their lives and position. What your teacher gave you was a message that would create a hopeless/uncontrollable situation in your mind. When if fact, you can decide to be happy with your life, just where you are with what you have whenever you like. You are in control. However, now that you have accepted the agreement your teacher has put in front of you, that y ou will never be happy, that you will always have to strive for more, because it is your nature and you have no choice or control, it is likely that you won't.FOREEST GUMP is regarded as the most successful movie in America in recent years. Through the life of Gump, the movie showed many affairs which once profoundly influenced American history. It was a romantic and epic work. The movie called on people to consider more about the society by adapting the history freely. And it contained a lot of movements of inner world, provide a rich imagination and a wide space for consideration.Gump, gifted with a low IQ which lets him be adorably childlike even as he grows up, leads a very charmed life: a mother who loves him immensely and who sleeps with the school principal in order to make sure her child has the best education, an unexpected incident that made him discard the braces for his legs, a childhood girlfriend who remains faithful to him till the end, surviving Vietnam with a medal, and, in general, a propensity for turning everything that happens to him into good. The movie implies that intelligence in life is not as decisive as people often think. And sometimes the child like innocence in adult person may get its rewards. Throughout the movie,Gump is always bullied by other people but he never takes offense (except when his girl Jenny is being abused). He is indeed not completely stupid, even though he is portrayed as such, since he can reassemble guns at high speed, run like crazy, play ping-pong like a master, and so on. Gump rubs elbows with many famous personalities over the last half of the century including President Nixon. He is contrasted to the famous males, who are idols in today's society, and it appears he is better off in comparison:Gump's choices in life seem to determine his niceness :he goes to Vietnam, keeps his promises , never has ill-feelings or hatred to life, and is not greedy with fame or money. And always wins un expected successes. Contrast this to the choices his lifetime girlfriend Jenny makes: she wants to be famous and rich, but ends up being disappointed and ill. The people she is surrounded by are all of a dubious nature: a rude father, a show audience more interested in her naked body than her folk-music playing, and an abusive hippie-boyfriend. Many people claim it gets them in touch with their "inner child". Gump never grows up or matures in the movie. He never becomes a man and remains a boy throughout. It is implied, at least, that his "stupidity" is what allows him to do this. This may or may not be true, but it is just a movie in the end. Most people in his position would not be so fortunate as he. And what about the converse: if you are intelligent, doing this means you cannot be childlike forever? That's not true, and the director did a goodjob in showing that anyone can retain their inner child as long they never grow up or become mature. The attitude which the movie conveyed is not anger and pessimism but peace and optimism after experienced and suffereda lot. It reveals a beautiful dream to us by Gump's life. Gump is welcomed by many Americans especially by the Middle Age parts. His image symbolized a spirit and represent many Americans' experience and character. Of course Gump is a new kind of role-model which is quite different from the previous American hero. His kind nature and the insistence touched in the Americans' inner world. After watching the movie, American people alllike Gump to represent the American spirit. It also reflects thatthe Americans' deep belief to their dream.教育危机促使中国社会阶层流动受阻--------------------------------------------------------------------------------经费投入不足与分配不公,使教育成为促进社会经济分化的重要工具在经历过‚老子英雄儿好汉‛的荒唐岁月后,‚士之子常为士,农之子常为农,工之子常为工,商之子常为商‛的情况,在当代中国仍然存在。

设计一个朝代作文英语
Growing up in a world where history is a subject that often feels distant and disconnected from our daily lives, Ive always been fascinated by the idea of immersing myself in a different era. The allure of ancient cultures, the elegance of their customs, and the intricacies of their social structures have always captivated my imagination. This year, for my schools history project, I decided to take on the challenge of designing a fictional dynasty, one that would reflect the best of what Ive learned about human civilization and governance.I began by researching various historical dynasties, from the Roman Empire to the Tang Dynasty in China, and even the Inca Empire in South America. I wanted to understand the common threads that made these civilizations successful and the pitfalls that led to their downfalls. I took notes on their political systems, social hierarchies, economic models, and cultural practices. For my dynasty, I decided to name it the Aurorian Empire, inspired by the golden age of enlightenment and the dawn of a new era. The Aurorian Empire would be a blend of the best practices I observed from my research, with a few unique twists to make it stand out.Politically, the Aurorian Empire would be a constitutional monarchy, where the king or queen would serve as a figurehead, representing the unity and continuity of the nation, while the actual governance would be carried out by an elected parliament. This system would ensure that the people have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives, while also maintaining a sense of stability and tradition.Socially, the Aurorian Empire would be a classless society, where every citizen has equal rights and opportunities. Education would be free and compulsory, ensuring that every child has the chance to learn and grow. This would foster a culture of innovation and progress, as every individual would be encouraged to reach their full potential.Economically, the empire would be based on a mixed economy, combining elements of capitalism and socialism. There would be a strong emphasis on sustainable development, with policies in place to protect the environment and promote renewable energy sources. The economy would also prioritize the wellbeing of its citizens, with a robust social safety net to support those in need.Culturally, the Aurorian Empire would celebrate diversity and creativity. The arts would be highly valued, with public funding available for artists and cultural institutions. Festivals and celebrations would be held regularly to bring the community together and celebrate the empires rich heritage. One of the unique aspects of the Aurorian Empire would be its emphasis on diplomacy and peace. The empire would strive to maintain good relations with neighboring nations, resolving conflicts through negotiation and compromise rather than through force. This would be a stark contrast to many historical empires that often resorted to war and conquest. To bring the Aurorian Empire to life, I created a detailed timeline of its history, from its founding to its peak, and even its eventual decline. Idesigned a flag and a coat of arms, incorporating symbols that represent the values and ideals of the empire. I also wrote a constitution, outlining the rights and responsibilities of its citizens, as well as the structure and functions of its government.Throughout this project, I learned a great deal about the complexities of creating a society from scratch. It made me appreciate the challenges that real historical figures faced in building and maintaining their civilizations. It also made me reflect on the importance of balance and compromise in governance, as well as the need for continuous adaptation and improvement. In conclusion, designing the Aurorian Empire was an enriching and enlightening experience. It allowed me to explore the intricacies of history and governance, and to imagine a world where the best of human civilization could thrive. While the Aurorian Empire is a work of fiction, the lessons I learned from this project are very real and will stay with me as I continue to learn and grow.。

I feel that this award was not made to me as a man, but to my work,a life’s work in the agony and sweat of the human spirit, not for glory and least of all for profit, but to create out of the materials of the human spirit something which did not exist before. So this award is only mine in trust. It will not be diffcult to find a dedication for the money part of it commensurate with the purpose and significance of its origin. But I would like to do the same with the acclaim too,by using this moment as a pinnacle from which I might be listened to by the young men and women already dedicated to the same anguish and travail, among whom is already that one who will some day stand here whereI am standing. Our tragedy today is a general and universal physical fear so long sustained by now that we can even bear it. There are no longer problems of the spirit. There is only the question: When will I be blown up? Because of this, the young man or woman writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflictwith itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat. He must learn them again. He must teach himself that the basest of all things is to be afraid; and, teaching himself that, forget itforever, leaving no room in his workshop for anything but the old verities and truthsof the heart, the old universal truths lacking which any story is ephemeral and doomed, love and honor and pity and pride and compassion and sacrifice. Until he does so, he labors under a curse. He writes not of love but of lust, ofdefeats in which nobody loses anything of value, of victories whthout hope and, worst of all, without pityor compassion. His griefs grieve on no universal bones, leaving no scars. He writes not of the heart but ofthe glands.Until he relearns these things, he will write as though he stood among and watched the end of man. I decline to accept the end of man. It is easy enough to say that man is immortal simply because he will endure: that when the last ding-dong of doom has clanged and faded from the last worthless rock hanging tideless in the last red and dying evening, that even then there will still be one more sound: that of his puny inexhaustible voice, still talking. I refuse to accept this. I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrfice and endurance. The poet’s, the writer’s duty is to write about these things. It is his privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and compassion and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past. The poet’s voice need not merely be the record of man,it can be one of the props, the pillars to help him endure and prevail.我觉得,这个奖不是授给我这个人,而是授给我的创作——那沉浸于人类心灵的煎熬与劳苦之中的毕生劳作——它既不为名誉,亦不为利润,只是为了创造出前所未有的人类精神的样本。

AreWe in a Classless Society?
As the society advances dramatically, some people think there is a classless society today. They believe that all people have enjoyedequal opportunity of education and job, and the boundary of the poor and the rich has disappeared. Is this true? Is the opportunityequal? Do we have the same wealth?
There is an increasing number of opportunities to go to high school and university for students. But the education quality and study resource in different school is not the same. A large number of outstanding teachers are centered on a few high level school. Students have not got equal education. People who graduated from a good school have a greater chance to find a good job, they stand at a higher starting point and can make more money than others. At present, people have more chances of receiving education than before, not everyone can receive the same level education yet.Due to historical reasons, the distribution of wealth in city and country is uneven in China. Although ruralincome has a large rise in recent years, there still has a certain gap between rural and urbanincome of residents.
As to how to improve social fairness, the following approaches among many others can be considered. Not only should we build equal education environment, but also provide fair chances of employment. It is deeply-rooted in my mind that an ideal and bright future is waiting for us as long as we spare no effort to realize social equity.。
