Life in the future李仕才第一节阅读理解阅读下面的短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D项中选出最佳选项。
AEven as we breathe a sigh of relief watching the rescue of 33 miners trapped in a Chilean mine for more than two months, there is recognition that their recovery from this traumatic experience involves more than just their physical health. Surrivors of disasters are at significant risk for such problems as depression and anxiety. In an upcoming report,George A.Bonanno and colleagues note that disasters result in extreme psychological harm in a minority of individuals—less than 30% of samples experience severe levels of these psychological problems. Just as there are a wide range of problems experienced following disasters, Bonanno and his coauthors observe there are also a number of outcome patterns. Some survivors will exhibit chronic dysfunction (慢性功能障碍) but the majority will go on to recover psychological function within a few months or years.Following disasters, the most common form of immediate psychological intervention(介入) is Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) (危机事件应激晤谈).However, following a review of studies on the effectiveness of CISD, Bonanno and co authors conclude, “Multiple studies h ave shown that CISD is not only ineffective but,as suggested earlier,in some cases can actually be psychologically harmful.“The data on crisis debriefing suggest that imposing such interventions on individuals doesn't work,”Lilienfeld says.“If some of the miners want to talk to somebody to express their feelings, then by all means mental health professionals should be there to listen to them and support them. But for miners who would prefernot to talk much about the experience, it's best to leave them alone and respect their own coping mechanisms (应对机制).”According to Bonanno and his coauthors, there are treatments that may be effective in helping survivors recover from disasters.Psychological first aid (PFA) ——which, among other things, provides practical help and helps develop a sense of safety and calmness among survivors——is a promising approach. For example, the communitycentered intervention—which helps maintain a sense of connectedness and quality of community life——is beneficial to survivors of disasters.1.Which of the following can replace the underlined word“traumatic”in the first paragraph?A.Amusing B.UpsettingC.Impressive D.Memorable2.What can be inferred from Lilienfeld's words?A.The choices of interventions should follow the survivors' will.B.The survivors should often ask health professionals for advice.C.It's beneficial for the survivors to communicate with each other.D.The miners should be respected for their hard and dangerous work.3.According to the passage, which of the following methods is generally more effective?A.Help survivors fit in their communities.B.Urge survivors to join in volunteer programs.C.Ask survivors to speak out their experiences.D.Leave survivors alone to improve their emotions.4.What is the passage mainly about?A.The types of psychological problems.B.The harmful effects of mine accidents.C.The new research about the mental activity.D.The psychological help for survivors of disasters.语篇解读:绝大多数灾难幸存者都会产生一定的心理问题,因此对他们进行心理疏导是极其重要的。

Unit 3 Life in the future李仕才一、阅读理解。
You might make a disgusted face when you notice that the person waiting in their car at the red light next to you is picking their nose, but admit it,you do it too.And while it might be the natural option when there isn't a box of tissues around,it can be bad for you.The main reasons why people feel the need to pick their nose are to clear it of dried liquid, stop an itch(痒),or just because it feels good.Boogers(鼻屎)form when dried liquid and cilium, the tiny hairs that line the nostrils(鼻孔),trap the dust, dirt, and other things. When boogers build up in your nose,it can be uncomfortable, and sometimes just blowing them into a tissue doesn't do_the_trick.Otolaryngologist Erich P.Voigt,MD,told Business Insider that picking your nose can cause injuries and bleeding within your nostrils. That's not terribly damaging, but when the bacteria from your hands get into your body,it can cause a cold.So doctors strongly suggest not picking the nose.If dry winter air is causing the dirty liquid to harden in your nostrils, making you want to pick, consider damping the air at home,or taking a steam shower to soften things up in there.Children, who are most famous for having a finger in their nose, sometimes don't realize how much injury they're causing, and sometimes it can lead to nose bleeding. So,next time you go to pick your nose, think about how many bacteria are on your hands and in your boogers, and maybe reach for a tissue instead.Even if you're alone, and not waiting for the light to turn green, please, use a tissue.1.Why do people pick their nose?A.Because they want to disgust others.B.Because they have the need to do it.C.Because they have nothing else to do.D.Because they don't have tissues around.2.Which of the following can replace th e underlined part“do the trick”in Paragraph 1?A.act B.cheatC.play D.help3.Which can help people avoid a cold and flu according to the text?A.Stopping picking the nose.B.Using tissues regularly.C.Taking a shower every day.D.Keeping the air wet at home.4.What should you do when you have to pick your nose?A.Be careful not to cause bleeding.B.Use a tissue instead of bare fingers.C.Wait for the light to turn red if you are driving.D.Wash your hands and clear your fingernails.【解题导语】本文主要分析了人们抠鼻子的原因以及抠鼻子所带来的不良后果,并呼吁人们需要时用纸巾而不是用手指抠鼻子。

He was there every morning, sitting motionless on the front steps of his house. In the morning light, I could see the shadows that were etched(蚀刻)deep within the lines surrounding his eyes. Each morning I walked this route with my daughter to her kindergarten class. We were new to the neighborhood so that I didn’t know many of my neighbors. On one beautiful autumn morning, as we passed his house, my daughter called out to him, “Hi, Mr. Man!” Always the outgoing child,I wasn’t surprised at her enthusiasm. But her cheerfulness soon faded when the man didn’t look at her and say “Hi” back.As we continued on our walk to school, my daughter asked why the man didn’t want to say hi to her. Because I didn’t have an answer, I said simply, “Maybe he is having a bad day.” later I knew that Bob lost his wife in a car accident.A few days later, as we approached Bob’s house on our way to school, my daughter called out “Hi Mr. Man!” and as usual, he didn’t respond. Unit 3 Life in the future阅读理解组块专练——练速度(限时:35分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解AIf I had to choose what language to learn next, it's a tough decision but it'd probably be German because many people that know several languages tell me that German is their favourite language in terms of expressing themselves. And I think it might have something to do with the vast amount of vocabulary the German language has. So I think it'd be really difficult but a fun challenge.Elena (Canada, teacher)I think I'd like to learn French next because it's a very romantic (浪漫的) language and it could be very useful in different job situations. Besides, I think it could help me understand English a bit more as well, since it was previously the language of diplomacy (外交).Bryan (USA, writer)I'd love to learn Italian next. I visited Milan last year and I think it would be great to be able to speak to some of the locals. Also, it's quite similar to Spanish, so I don't think it would be too confusing.Georgina (England, Olympic swimmer)I'd really like to learn French. I actually learned it some years ago, but I haven't used it in a long time and I've forgotten it but it's a language that I really enjoy speaking, and I think France is a wonderful country.James (New Zealand, travel writer)A.it is easy to learnB.it is used frequentlyC.it sounds more beautiful than EnglishD.it allows him to express himself more clearly解析:选B 推理判断题。
根据第二段中的“it could be very useful in different job situations”可知,在不同的工作场景中法语都非常有用。
由此可推测,正是因为法语的使用频率很高,所以Bryan想学法语。
2.We can infer that Georgina ________.A.will live in MilanB.can speak SpanishC.feels puzzled about her careerD.wants to make some Italian friends解析:选B 推理判断题。
根据第三段中的“it's quite similar to Spanish, so I don't think it would be too confusing”可推测,因为Georgina会西班牙语,所以她认为和西班牙语很像的意大利语应该不会很难学。
3.Who is the most fearless learner?A.Elena. B.Bryan.C.Georgina. D.James.解析:选A 推理判断题。
根据第一段中的“... the vast amount of vocabulary the German language has. So I think it'd be really difficult but a fun challenge”可知,Elena明明知道德语的词汇量很大,学起来会很困难,但仍然想去尝试学德语,并认为这是项很有趣的挑战。
由此不难看出,Elena是个不畏困难的学习者。
BWhat will man be like in the future — in 5,000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make guesses, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today, for man is slowly changing all the time.Let us take an obvious example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, menare about three inches taller. Five hundred years isrelatively a short period of time, so we may assume that manwill continue to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we useour brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about20% of the brain's capacity. As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more, and eventually we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change to the head, in particular, the forehead will grow larger.Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a very long period of time it is likely that man's eyes will grow stronger. On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life. But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both sexes are likely to be bald (光秃的).Perhaps all these give the impression that in the future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at! This may well be true. All the same, in spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us. He will still be a human being, with thoughts and emotions similar to our own.A.man's life will be different in the futureB.future man will look quite different from usC.man is growing taller and uglier as time passesD.man's organs' functions will be on the wane (衰退)解析:选B 主旨大意题。
由第一段可知本文主要介绍未来人类的外貌可能会出现的变化。
C项只是其中的一个方面。
5.The change in man's size of forehead is probably because ________.A.he/she makes use only 20% of the brain's capacityB.his/her brain has grown larger over the past centuriesC.the other 80% of his/her brain will grow in due timeD.he/she will use his brain more and more as time goes on解析:选D 细节理解题。
