The presentation consists of six parts, namely Analysis of the teaching material, analysis of the students, teaching objectives, teaching guidelines, teaching procedure and reflection on the lesson. Then, I will introduce these six parts in details.Part 1 Analysis of the teaching materialThis lesson, Festivals around the world, is taken from Unit 1, in Module 3 of NSEFC (New Senior English for China ). This unit talks about various festivals in different part of the world. The reading materials mainly describes four different kinds of festivals: festivals of the dead, festivals to honor people, harvest festivals and spring festivals. By studying this unit, students can know different festivals all over the world, and many of festivals in different countries celebrate similar ideas. This unit offers the students the opportunities to make a comparison and contrast the festivals in China and other pats of the world.This unit is quite interesting and will arouse the interests of the students for they are exciting when the festivals comes. They can enjoy a happy time with all their parents and friends during the traditional Chinese festivals. They can do what they like. The festivals of other countries is also very interesting and will attract their attention.Part 2 Analysis of the studentsThe target students of the lesson are Senior one students. They have mastered basic English knowledge which enables them to think and communicate in English. Besides, they are active in thinking and interested in new things. They have theability to explore knowledge and cooperate with others. They are eager to learn new knowledge and also show strong interests in new things.Part 3 Teaching objectivesBased on my analysis of the teaching material and the students, the teaching objectives of this lesson should be as follows. It consists of three parts, namely, knowledge objectives, ability objectives, emotional objectives.knowledge objectives1.To make the students have a good master of some important vocalburies and expressions, such as festival, lunar, harvest, Christmas, celebration, Halloween, Thanksgiving Day, dress up, play a trick, in memory of, look forward to, have fun with, customs2. To make the students to have a good master of some important sentence patterns3. learn basic information about Chinese and western festivalsAbility objectives1.Make students know about the holidays all over the world and the detail of the holiday, such as origin of the holiday, content of the holiday, and the date of the holiday, etc.2. Make sure that the students can thinking independently3. To foster s tudents’s cooperative ability by making discussion with their classmates Emotional objectives1.To help the students to have a better knowledge of the origin of the festivals and their meanings of existing2.To help students to form a cross-cultural awareness and pay more attention to our traditional festivals3.To help the students to understand the differencesbetween Chinese festivals andwestern festivals.Part 4. Teaching guidelinesBased on the above analysis, the teaching guidelines will include two parts, namely, Teaching approach and learning methods1.Teaching approach1) Task-based teaching methodI chose task-based teaching as the major teaching approach for this lesson. A task is assigned for the students, namely, after learning and collecting information about the festivals at home and abroad, they should bear in mind the names of the festival, which country the festival belong to, which date it is, and which festival belong to Festivals of the dead, which belong to Festivals to honor people, and which belong to harvest festivals. In a word,students are motivated by a simulated task to learn and to apply what they have learned.2)Heuristic teaching methodExcept task-based teaching, heuristic teaching approach will also be involved in the teaching. I will set up some real situation to lead in the topic of this unit. Then the whole class will be divided into several parts to make a discussion. The heuristic teaching approach will be quite useful for the active participation of the students in the teaching process2.Learning methods1) Exploratory learning2) Cooperative learningExploratory learning and cooperative learning methods will be used. Before the lesson, students are divided into groups. They surf the internet and collect information about the festivalsat home and abroad. Then they make a presentation all by themselves to show the whole class. In class, they present, exchange and compare the colleted information and share their experience during the holiday. During these processes students are to develop their ability to explore and to communicate.Teaching aids:1. a computer multimedia2. the blackboardPart 5 teaching procedureStep 1 Lead-in and discussionStart the class by asking them several questions, what they have done during the Spring Festival which is just gone. Have they got their lucky money? And make them share their experience during the Spring Festival. What kinds of festivals in China do you know about? Q2, What festivals of foreign countries do you know?Several pictures will be shown to the students and help them to recall the date of the festival. Then a table will be made to make the students to have a clear understanding of the sequences of the festivals. Divide the class into several groups to make have a discussion about the Chinese traditional Chinese festivals they have already know and the customs and what people do during the festivals etc.Step 2. SkimmingRead the passage as quickly as they can. Then do the Ex .1 in P.3Step 3. ScanningRead the passage carefully again and answer some detailed questions on the screen. Qs: Which three times of the year did people celebrate in Ancient Times?What kind of things are done to celebrate the Obon Festival?Why does Indian have a national festival on October 2?Name three things people do at Spring Festival.Step 4. Careful readingIt is also called depth reading or study reading. It means reading for detailed information.Purpose: Further understand the text (Train further reading ability) to find out some different sentences and details of the text.Ex.2 in P.3Step 5. Learning about languageDeal with the language points and the using of the Modal Verbs in the text.In memory of , dress up , look forward to ,…….Purpose: Train the Ss’ ability of understanding a nd using language.Step 6. A Brief Instruction to the Topic of“Festivals around the world”Good morning, distinguished teachers:Today, I am honored to have the chance to present some of my teaching ideas to you. My topic is the reading passage “Festivals around the world” in Unit 1 Book 3. I will deal with it through 7 parts.Part One Analysis of the Teaching Material.本单元的单元话题是节日,在本单元的学习中,学生可以了解到各种世界各地普遍流行的节日,本单元还介绍了节日的起源,以及人们节日期间的庆祝活动,旨在让学生通过本单元的学习不仅可以了解到几种中国的传统节日,还可以接触到几种著名的西方节日,让学生在学习新的单词短语同时还能丰富文化视野。

本篇文章简单的介绍了最早的古代节日以及人们庆祝节日的原因,然后向学生介绍了四种世界各地常见的节日。

在第一段的学习中,学生可以了解到古代节日主要和季节以及人们当时的生存问题有关;Festivals of the Dead 介绍的是纪念祖先怀念先人的节日。

Festivals to Honor People主要通过纪念战争英雄、民族或国家杰出领导人以及著名的历史事件及人物来增强人们的民族自豪感。

Harvest Festivals是人们庆祝丰收表达感激的节日。

Spring Festivals 则传递了人们对新生命新生活的美好期望。

根据新课程标准及考试大纲对本单元的具体要求,结合本篇阅读文章的结构和内容特点,我设定本堂课的教学目标如下:Knowledge aim:让学生通过本节课的学习把握文章的中心内容;学习和掌握新的词汇及短语;简单复习必修一和必修二中的重点语法项目定语从句以及重点句型。

Ability aim:培养和提高学生在阅读中选择有效信息及用英语表达的能力。

Emotional aim:通过在学案上设置合作学习活动培养学生的合作意识;帮助学生了解国内外的节日文化习俗。

Part Two Analysis of Students我们主要来看一下学生已有的关于节日的生活经验,以及学生通过上学期的学习已有的与本篇文章有关的英语知识情况分析学生在本堂课的学习中可能存在的教学难点。

本篇文章介绍的第二种节日起源是to honor some famous people.学生已经在必修一第五单元中学习了南非接触领袖Nelson Mandela我们了解到,为了纪念他为南非人民的和平和自由所作出的接触贡献。

7月18日是Nelson Mandela 国际和平日。

Knowing about this, the students will have easy access to the command of the third section.另外,春节和中秋节在我们国家是非常重要的传统节日,学生对于这两个节日已经了解的很多,Students will not have any difficulty understanding andintroducing it mentioned in the forth section .对于本篇文章的内容来看,第一段中的第一句学生需要特别注意句子的时态问题:现在完成时态的被动语态,这是必修二中学生已经学习的重点语法项目。

第四句中包含着重要的动词不定式的主动结构表被动意义的句型,这也是学生已经在必修一第三单元中了解到的。

另外,在介绍节日的起源时,文章中用到了几处定语从句的表达,学生在这些句子的理解上应该是没有问题的。

但是,学生对于情态动词CAN表推测的用法是比较陌生的,这将是这节课处理中的难点之一。

本篇文章一共向学生呈现了12个节日,因为很多学生是来自农村,可能对于西方的几个节日不是很熟悉,比如万圣节、复活节等。

还有基于学生平常口语练习的缺乏,如何用英语来准确表达自己对高一新生来说还是有一定难度的,尤其是对于词汇量贫乏的学生来说。

考虑到这些学生在学习过程中可能出现的问题,我会在课前以拓展阅读的形式为学生补充相关的背景知识,并在授课的过程中用幻灯片展示来增加课堂的生动性和趣味性。

Part Three Teaching Style for Reading Period最近一段时间以来,我们临朐实验中学一直在推行“和谐课堂”教学模式,我们强调以学生为课堂中心,通过在学案上设计多种多样的课堂活动帮助学生增强自信、提高学习兴趣、发展自主学习及合作学习的学习能力。

在学校课堂模式的指导下,对于英语学科的阅读课,我的教学模式大体如下:在课前预习学案上,我主要为学生补充与本单元话题有关的背景材料以及一些简单的问题和练习让学生对课文的学习做一些准备工作。

在课内探究学案上,则以课堂任务的形式向学生呈现课内需要探究和处理的重点难点知识。

并根据课堂任务的难易程度让学生进行自主学习或者合作学习,并由学生来展示学习结果,对于学生在探究过程中所遇到解决不了的难点问题,我给予提示和帮助。

最后,通过课堂练习的形式帮助学生巩固所学内容并逐渐形成学习能力。

在课后呢,我还会以拓展作业的形式让学生通过报纸、杂志、借助图书馆以及网络来扩充学生的课外阅读量。

Part Four Teaching Procedures通过以上对教学内容以及学生学习情况的分析,确定了以学生为课堂活动的中心的阅读课教学模式,为了达到我们的教学目标,本篇课文的处理我将以以下八个步骤来进行:Step One :Lead in (3 minutes)本单元的话题是关于节日,所以在课堂开始,我用以下几个问题让学生进行头脑风暴的练习来引出新的课堂内容.Step Two: Skimming(6 minutes)让学生快速通读全文并完成学案上的任务一和任务二。

在任务一中,我将用阅读理解练习题的形式让学生把握文章的主旨大意、获取基本信息来训练学生的阅读理解能力;在任务二中,我以问题的形式让学生对本篇文章的主要内容即介绍四种节日起源和12个不同节日有了更清晰的了解。

Step Three: Detailed Reading (about 10 minutes)让学生对文章进行更详细的阅读并获取有效信息帮助他们完成在学案上的探究任务。

因为在这篇文章中出现的新的词汇和短语较多,识记新的词汇和短语是本节课的重要任务之一,所以我主要通过让学生填空的形式让他们不断的熟悉词汇和短语,同时,在这一步骤中让学生了解关于这12个不同节日更多的详细信息。

当然,在本环节的处理中,学生通过合作探究的形式解决学习困难并在课堂上展示答案,对于一些重难点我会提供帮助或进行精讲点拨。

Step Four :Discussion work ( 5minutes)通过以上环节的学习,学生已经了解到各种节日都是人们为了某种目的而设立的,所以接下来我会让学生就这个话题进行讨论:“If you have got a chance to create a festival, what kind of festival will you create? Why? When? And what will people do during it?”讨论结束后,由小组内的发言人来呈现讨论结果,与其他学生分享他们的个性节日。

Step Five: Retell the passage briefly( 5 minutes)让学生用本节课中新学的单词和短语简单的复述本篇课文的主要内容。

设计本环节主要是让学生在进一步了解课文主要框架的同时再一次对新的单词和短语有更深的记忆。

如果时间允许,可以让学生到教室前面进行课文内容的复述以此锻炼他们的英语表达能力。

Step Six: ConsolidationTask 1 Words and phrases(6 minutes)通过前面几个环节,学生已经对新出现的单词和短语有了较深的印象,所以,在课内巩固的第一个任务中,我在学案上给出了学生这些单词的汉语提示让学生快速写出英文,并以学生自我评价的形式对新单词和短语的识记进行查缺补漏;并让一个或两个学生朗读这些新单词,并纠正他们错误的发音。

Task 2 important sentences (5 minutes)任务二是关于本篇文章中的重点句子的记忆。

让学生根据学案上的中文或英文句子的提示从课文中快速找出对应的句子并进行背诵。

同时,让学生自主发现句子中的重点项目,提示学生记住重点的句型结构。

Task 3 Word spelling ( 4 minutes)通过设置单词拼写的练习让学生学会在具体的语境中恰当的正确的使用所学词汇。

Task 4 Choose the best answer(3 minutes)针对重点的单词短语及语法项目,我选择了一些典型的选择题目来检测学生在他们的结构运用中是否还存有问题和困难。

对于相对容易的习题我会让学生来进行讲解,较难的习题我适当补充和点拨。

Step Seven: Summary (2 minutes)让一到两个学生到讲台前对本堂课所学的内容和知识进行简单的课堂小结,学生也可以和同学们共同分享他的一些学习感受。

这也是锻炼和提高他们用英语进行自我表达的一种有效方式。

Step Eight : Homework (1 minute)在英语知识方面,学生必须要全面掌握课文中的新的词汇、短语和重点句子。

在英语能力方面,我要求学生以书面表达的形式介绍他最喜爱的节日,并要清楚的解释原因和理由。

需要说明的是,引文在本堂课之前我们已经进行了词汇识记课对本单元的重点单词短语的用法进行了学习和处理,所以大家可以发现在本节阅读课中我主要是让学生进行文章内容和结构的理解。

Part Five Blackboard Design在教室黑板的左边,我想以知识树的形式为学生展示本篇课文的主要内容,包括古代节日、四种节日起源、12个不同节日。

在黑板的右边呢,我会向学生展示重点单词、短语以及句型结构方便学生整理笔记。

Part Six Class Assessment正如新课程标准中所述,恰当合理的课堂评价手段可以有效的促进学生学习帮助我们不断的改进课堂教学。

针对本篇阅读课文,我主要采取以下几种评价方法:就文章中的重点词汇知识的识记我让学生进行自我评价;对于课文中的重点句子的背诵则让学生进行小组内的互评。

另外,对于属于高考考点单词短语的用法以及重点的句型结够我则以课堂小测验的形式对学生进行评价,以便于及时发现学生的遗留问题并进行及时的补救。
