Millions of Americans take large amounts of vitamin C pills every day because they believe the vitamin will help them stay healthy. However, a new study says vitamin C may help produce substances that can damage DNA. Scientists at the University of Pennsylvania experimented with vitamin C in test tubes. They studied the effects of vitamin C on a substance produced in the body from fat. That substance is called hydro-peroxide(过氧化氢物), which can be changed in a cell into substances that can damage DNA. The scientists found that vitamin C easily changed the hydro-peroxide into the gene-damaging poisons. Such damage is the first step toward developing cancer. However, the scientists say the study does not mean that vitamin C causes cancer. They say it is well-known that vitamin C is important for human health, but people can get enough vitamin C in the foods they eat. Earlier studies have shown that eating a lot of fruits, vegetables and grains can reduce the chance of developing both heart disease and cancer. Other researchers agree that the latest study is important in understanding the chemistry of vitamin C. But they say the study did not involve people. The vitamin C was tested in the laboratory only. They think the results might be different in living cells.Mark Levine is a vitamin C expert who questions whether a similar study in people would produce the same results. He also says people should get their vitamin C in food instead of taking huge amounts in pills to stay healthy, and research does not support taking a lot of vitamin C.The United States government says people should get about eighty milligrams of vitamin C each day in the foods they eat. Studies have shown that the body cannot use more than two hundred milligrams of vitamin C each day. Medical researchers say that taking vitamin C pills cannot replace the value of eating healthy foods.1.What does this passage mainly discuss?2.Which one is Not true about the effect of VC according to the passage?3.What does the author imply when he mentions “living cells” in Paragraph 3?4.Which of the following is not true about the scientists’ research?5.Taking a lot of VC (). A.Taking a large amount of VC will do good to health.B.Taking too much VC pills every day is not good for health.C.People should take as much VC as possible.D.It is not necessary at all to take VC pills. A.It is important for human healthB.It may help produce substances that can damage DNAC.It causes cancerD.VC in foods can reduce the chance of developing heart disease and cancer问题3选项A.The research has involved living creatures.B.The results from the lab test might not always be reliable.C.If it is tested in living body the results will be the same.D.The chemistry of VC is living. A.The scientists experimented with VC in test tubes.B.The research didn’t involve people.C.VC was tested in the lab only.D.Mark Levine did the experiment involving people. A.is supported by VC expertB.is encouraged by the U.S. governmentC.is agreed by medical researchersD.is disapproved by many scientists【答案】第1题:B第2题:D第3题:B第4题:D第5题:D【解析】第1题:主旨大意题。

2.单选题Whether the eyes are “the windows of the soul” is debatable, that they are intensely important in interpersonal communication is fact. During the first two months of a baby’s life, the stimulus that produces a smile is a pair of eyes. The eyes need not be real: a mask with two dots will produce a smile. Significantly, a real human face with eyes covered then the face will not motivate a smile, nor will the sight of only one eye then the face is presented in profile. This attraction to eyes as opposed to the nose or mouth continues as the baby matures. In one study, when American four-year-olds were asked to draw people. 75 percent of them drew people with mouths, but 99 percent of them drew people with eyes. In Japan, however, where babies are carried on their mother’s back, infants to not acquire as much attachment to eyes as they do in other cultures. As a result, Japanese adults make little use of the face either to encode or decode meaning. In fact, Argyle reveals that the “proper place to focus one’s gaze during a conversation in Japan is on the neck of one's conversation partner’.The role of eye contact in a conversational exchange between two Americans is well defined: speakers make contact with the eyes of their listener for about one second, then glance away as they talk; in a few moments they re-establish eye contact with the listener or reassure themselves that their audience is still attentive, then shift their gaze away once more. Listeners, meanwhile, keep their eyes on the face of the speaker, allowing themselves-to glance away only briefly. It is important that they be looking at the speaker at the precise moment when the speaker reestablishes eye contact; if they are not looking, at the speaker assumes that they are disinterested and either will pause until eye contact is resumed or will terminate the conversation. Just how critical this eye maneuvering is to the maintenance of conversational flow becomes evident when two speakers are wearing dark glasses: there may be a sort of traffic jam of words caused by interruption, false starts, and unpredictable pauses.1.The author is convinced that the eyes are().2.Babies will not be stimulated to smile by a person().3.According to the passage, the Japanese fix their gaze on their conversation partner’ neck because().4.According to the passage, a conversation between two Americans may break down due to ().5.To keep a conversation flowing smoothly, it is better for the participants().问题1选项A.something through which one can see a person’s inner worldB.of extreme importance in expressing feelings and exchanging ideasC.of considerable significance in making conversations interestingD.something the value of which is largely a matter of long debate问题2选项A.whose front view is fully perceivedB.whose face is covered with a maskC.whose face is seen from the sideD.whose face is free of any covering问题3选项A.they don't like to keep their eyes on the face of the speakerB.they don’t how to communicate through eye contactC.they don’t think it polite to have eye contactD.they didn’t have much opportunity to communicate through eye contact in bab yhood问题4选项A.one temporarily glancing away from the otherB.eye contact of more than one secondC.improperly-timed ceasing of eye contactD.constant adjustment of eye contact问题5选项A.not to wear dark glassesB.not to make any interruptionsC.not to glance away from each otherD.not to make unpredictable paused【答案】第1题:B第2题:C第3题:D第4题:C第5题:A【解析】第1题:主旨大意题。

1.One such novel idea is that(idea)of inserting into the chromosomes of plants discrete genes that are not a part of the plants’natural constitution:specifically, the idea of inserting into nonleguminous plants the genes,if they can be identified and isolated, that fit the leguminous plants to be hosts for
nitrogen-fixing bacteria.Hence,(there is)the intensified research on legumes.(5)

One such novel idea is that of之中的that of,是that idea of的省略形式。

Inserting into the chromosomes of plants discrete genes(that are not a part of the plants'natureal consttution)看上去不舒服的原因,是作者在此用了一个便装;正常语序应该是:inserting discrete genes(that are not a part of the plants'natureal
constitution)into the chromosomes of plants,即把非此植物的genes 插入到该植物中。

同样,后面的the idea of inserting into nonleguminous plants the genes,if they can be identifyied and isolated, that fit the leguminous plants to be hosts for nitrogen-fixing bacteria一句,正常的语序也是the idea of inserting the genes,if they can be identifyied and isolated, that fit the leguminous plants to be hosts for nitro-fixing bacteria into nonleguminous plants,即把便利豆科植物成为固氮菌的寄主的基因(如果它们能够被找到并分离出来的话)插入到非豆科植物的基因中去。

Hence,the intensified research on legumes,其实也不是一句话,只是一个词:research。

One such novel idea is that(idea)of inserting into the chromosomes of plants discrete genes that are not a part of the plants’natural constitution:specifically, the idea of inserting into nonleguminous plants the genes,if they can be identified and
isolated, that fit the leguminous plants to be hosts for
nitrogen-fixing bacteria.Hence,(there is)the intensified research on legumes.
2.Islam,on the other hand, represented a radical breakaway from the Arab paganism that preceded it;Islamic law is the result of an examination, from a religious angle,(examination)of legal subject matter that was far from uniform, comprising as it did the various components of the laws of pre-Islamic Arabia and numerous legal elements taken over from the non-Arab peoples of the conquered territories.(4)

(as it did)实际上是一句插入语。

第一个是on the other hand,隔开了主语和谓语。

第二个是from a religious angle,分开了examination of,第三个as it did,根本就是句废话,分断了动词comprise和动词的宾语the various components。

Islam,on the other hand, represented a radical breakaway from the Arab paganism that preceded it;Islamic law is the
result of an examination, from a religious angle,of legal subject matter that was far from uniform, comprising as it did the various components of the laws of pre-Islamic Arabia and numberous legal elements taken over from the non-Arab peoples of the conquered territories.
