1．Work to Live or Live to WorkEven though everybody needs to work,not everyone thinks about work in the same way. For people that only work to live, work is just a way to get money to survive. A few even consider work to be oppressive. They do not derive any pleasure from their work routine.Other people live to work, and so they derive both poeasure and satistaction from it. Work gives meaning to their life; and thus, they cannot imagine life without it. Thomas Edison enjoyed his work so much that he did not feel that it was work. While I believe that work is necessary, I also belive that one should make the most of their work. Thus, I always try to take on a job I enjoy. In addition to this, I think that work should not be one’s only activity. In order to lead a fulfilling life, it is necessary to take interests outside of work.2. My Ideal JobMy ideal job requires three important characteristics.First, it should serve the community. I want to make a postive contribution to society by doing something that is morally right. My ideal job should really help make the world a better place. I want to have a job that makes me proud.Second, I want to have a good salary. I don’t need to be rich, but I need enough money to live comfortably. I need to be comfortable in order to enjor my job.Finally, my ideal job has to be challenging. I want a job that is always interesting; I don’t want to be bored at work. It has to proveide challenges and opportunities for the future. My job needs to grow and develop with my own growth and development.If I can find a job with these three characteristics, I will be very satisfied.3. Ideal jobFinding an ideal job is a goal most people have. Even though the kind of job a person considers idal differs according to their own personal preferences and professional ambitions, there are still several common factors present in all jobs that people consider ideal.An ideal job needs to be interesting and challenging, and, of course, well paid. I quickly become bored with jobs that are not interesting. Likewise, if a job is not challenging then it becomes too routine and repetitive and I could not stay at such a job very long. Also, a job that does not have a sufficient salary is not ideal for me because I will wory about money all of the time.My ideal job needs to have concrete goals and discenible objectives that I can work towards. Without such goals and objectives a job lacks tangible achievements; and therefore, will not be conductive to personal contentment in my career. It is difficult to imagine that I will be able to gain a feeling of achievement from a career spent working on tasks without a well-defined objective or contributiong to a larger final project.Consequently, an ideal job should present a continuous series of reasonable and task-specific challenges to each worker so that the successful completion of each project offers a sense of satisfaction to each individual and createsa desire to continue onto the next task at hand.4. ComputerAt present, computers are prevelant in almost every part of our lives. People use computers at school, work, and home for education, entertainment, and to do their jobs. Yet, it is incredible that such an important tool only became widely available twenty years ago.Before the introduction of personal computers even most white-collar jobs, for instance, were labor intensive. Letters and business documents were written on a typewriter and if there was a mistake the document would have to be re-typed. With the introduction of personal computers,documents are easily edited and perfected on a computer, only to be printed out when they are perfect.The ease and efficiency of using computers in the office is one of the main reasons for their widespread acceptance.Even though computers have made working much more efficient and productive, they still have a lot of potential to change our lives. Computers are able to perform more and more complicated tasks every year. We can’t really imagine how advanced computers will be five or ten years from now. perhaps some day scientists will even be able to design a computer that can think for itself. It seems that the real potential of computers will only be fully realized in the future.5.Reading Good BooksThere is no greater joy for me than fiding a good book and to fully enjoy reading it. A book can be a good companion. It provides me with wisdom and insight I never had previously. When I have a good book in hand, I will devote myself to reading it. My concentration is so deep that I will skip dinner, and if it is a long book, I will read throughout the night until I have finally finished reading the book.I love to go to the library, second hand bookstores, and I like to spend hours gong over all the books there. Many are classics I have read several times, some are books I regret reading, and others are undiscovered gems waiting for me to explore their pages. Searching for and finding gook books is an important and enjoyable part of my life.Half the fun of reading is the search for good books to read. After I have found a new book, I will immediately start to read it. If it is a great book I might just read the book straight through. Other books I might put away for a while before returning to them. It seems that sometimes I don’t have much free time, but I always make enough time to enjoy books and fine literature.6.Reading newspapersWith the advent of the fast paced and information rich soceity, some people wonder how much loger people will read newspapers. It is said that in a short while, the internet will replace all newspapers. I disagree and believe that newspapers will continue to be most people’s first source ofinformation for quite some time.However, the internet does have one advantage over newspapers: the news in newspapers will always be less timely than the news on the internet. Yet, newspapers also have their own advatages that the internet can still not match. Newspapers give people something to hold and carry around. They are very convenient, and they are easily purchased and disposed of. In the modern world, these advantages are still very important.The convenience and availability of nwespapers ensures that the internet will not quickly replace them. Therefore, I do not agree with those people who say the death of newspapers is imminent. Newspapers will surely be with us for sometime to come.7． Learning EnglishWith our country becoming a member of the international community, the ability to speak English is becoming increasingly important. There has been a rise in the numbetr of students enrolling in English course outside of their university course load. Also,many working people are attending English classes after work,and children are becoming to study English at a much younger age.The reason for this interest in studying English is that English is increasingly becoming the de facto international language in business and science. More than 70% of the international business and scientific publication and journals are published in English. Its benefits and drawbacks depend on how it is integrated into a household. Everyone should be careful about how television is used in his or her family.Television brings news and information to people in an efficient and timely manner, linking people more closely together. Entertainment programs help relieve stress and bring variety to people’s lives. Sports programs allow many more people to watch a game instead of attending a match at the stadium. Additionally, educational programs offer an opportunity for people to acquire new knowledge and skills, and news programs keep people up to date on what is happening in the world. However, television can also become a substitute for conversations among family members, as it allows people to escape from problems that need to be sorted out.Clearly, television is a neutral medium: whether it is an advantage or not to a community depends on how it is used. Therefore, families and communities should carefully consider the role of television in their lives.9.My Favorite Kind of TV Program There are many different television programs on air, so it is especially difficult to pick out the informative ones. However, it is easy to argue that educational programs are one of the most useful programs. While other programs are used mainly for entertainment pruposes, educational programs teach people new skills. My Favorite Type of Television Program: SportsProgramIt is very exciting to be in a stadium watching a live sporting event, but there are times when I prefer to watch sports on telecision instead. Televison gives you a different view of the sporting event and in some situations is better than watching the game in person.Though watching an event live provides a sense of excitement and participation in the action, television often offers a better view. It gives you a closer view of the actin through close ups and a more detailed view when they show actions in slow motion. The abuse of advertising is its most serious potential problem.Misleading advertising can be detrimental toconsumers. Advertising companies, instead of informing people about a product’s true benefits, can craft advertisements so as to create a false sense of a need for the product. Advertising agencies truly understand people’s needs and weaknesses, and they use this information to manipulate people into buying products they don’t really need.If an advertisement is a true reflection of a product, then it is useful in informing the public of new facts and goods.
