a mouse once took a bite out of a bulls tail as he lay dozing.

the bull jumped up in a rage and, with his head low to the ground, chased the mouse right across the yard. the mouse

was too quick for him, however, and slipped easily into a hole

in the wall.

the bull charged the wall furiously again and again, but although he

bruised his head and chipped his horns, the mouse stayed safely inside his hole. after a time the bull gave up and sank down to rest again.

as soon as the bull was asleep, the little mouse crept to the mouth of the hole, pattered across the yard, bit the bull again -- this time on the nose -- and rushed back to safety. as the bull roared helplessly the mouse squeaked:

its not always the big people who come off best. sometimes

the small ones win, you know.

thanksgiving day

most stories of thanksgiving history start with the harvest celebration of the pilgrims and the native americans that took place in the autumn of 1621. although they did have a three-day feast in celebration of a good harvest, and the local natives did participate, this first thanksgiving was not a holiday, simply a gathering. there is little evidence that this feast of thanks led directly to our modern thanksgiving day holiday. thanksgiving can, however, be traced back to 1863 when pres. lincoln became the first president to proclaim thanksgiving day. the holiday has been a fixture of late november ever since.

however, since most school children are taught that the first thanksgiving was held in 1621 with the pilgrims and indians, let us take a closer look at just what took place leading up to

that event, and then what happened in the centuries afterward that finally gave us our modern thanksgiving.

my father was an exceptional man. he may not have been a perfect man. but he was a good man. and he loved us. all i wanted to do today was to give him a dignified…sending. is

that really so much to ask?

so... maybe... maybe he had some things he liked to do. life

isnt simple. its complicated. were all just thrown in here together in a world full of chaos(混沌,混乱) and confusion,

a world full of questions and no answers, with death always lingering(徘徊,沉思) around the corner. and we do our best. we cant always do our best. my dad did it best. he always tried to tell me, you have to go for what you want in life, because

you never know how long youre gonna be here. and whether you succeed or you fail, the most important thing is to have tried. a parent can only drive you in the right direction. in the end though, youve got to run for yourself. you have to grow up yourself.

so when you leave here today, id like you to remember my father for what he really was--a decent and loving man. if only (要是……多好) we could be as giving and generous and understanding as my father was. then the world would be a far better place.

it is said that the true nature of being is veiled. the labor of words, the expression of art, the seemingly ceaseless buzz

that is human thought all have in common the need to get at what really is so. the hope to draw close to and possess the truth of being can be a feverish one. in some

cases it can even be fatal, if pleasure is one’s truth and its attainment more important than life itself. in other lives, though, the search for what is truthful gives life.

i used to find notes left in the collection basket, beautiful

notes about my homilies and about the writer’s thoughts on

the daily scriptural readings. the person who penned the notes would add reflections to my thoughts and would always

good morning, everyone.my name’s...i’m

from ...it’s my great honor here today to share with you a true story that happened to me named “speechless love”.

i remember it was a summer vocation when i was in grade 2.my father signed up a swimming class for me.at first, the coach asked us to practice movements, hold breath underwater and stretch legs with kickboard.as soon as we were familiar with the basic

skills, everybody was pushed into the water like ducks.

however,my mind went blank as soon as i got into the water.i couldn’t help throwing about my legs.at that moment, the coach reached out a stick and i grasped

it like a life-saving straw without thinking.finally, i climbed up awkwardly.

from then on, i was so afraid of water that my legs would tremble when i was close to water.i begged my father with my eyes and told him i didn’t w ant to learn swimming any more.(停顿)爸爸的表情瞬间严肃了,(停顿)不行!

my father looked serious in a flash.“no way!how can you quit just because of this tiny setback?

everybody will come across something difficult, but yo u can’t run away from it.you have to face it.”said my father.i was too ashamed after hearing my father’s words.

after that,my father would drive me to the swimming center on weekends.we competed with each other through holding breath and searching for stuff underwater.my

fear of water faded away and i learned how to swim in the end.(停顿)现在,不管到哪里,总能听到别人的夸奖,快看!

now, wherever i go,i can always hear other’s compliment that how well that little boy swims.thinking back,i would have given up without my father’s

encouragement and would have lost the opportunity of challenging myself.

in daily life,my parents not only teach me infinite knowledge and how to be a good person, but also give me the courage to overcome the difficulty, making me understand what persistence is.

my parents have given me too much and perhaps their love is the best nourishment during my growth.i’d like to thank my father and mother for giving me this sweet

home.without you,i would not have all of these.

therefore, i want to speak out “father and mother,i love you.”

that’s all my story.thanks for listening.
