A beautiful girl called Ada Monroe, the daughter of a poster, who moved from Charleston to Cold Mountain, fell in love with a handsome and strong boy at the first sight. The boy was Inman, who wanted to be a soldier to realize his great dream, and when he saw Ada, he knew he would love her deeply in his life.Ada left the small town with her piano, and she played it for Inman on the way when she saw he was working in the farm for a woman. Inman heard the beautiful sound in the field but could do nothing but to see her leave.When most of the prominent people gathered in the poste r’s house to celebrate the new-built church, Inman also arrived at her house and watched her carefully and silently from the window in a rainy evening. At the same time, Ada noticed her lover and she made an excuse to meet him to have a talk with him. After this dangerous experience, He met a lot of people having different goals, such as a beast who was finally killed by the southern soldiers, a man with his relatives, some beautiful women who were fond of tempting him and making sex with him, a pregnant woman who lead a poor life but was willing to help him and saved himduring the hard time, an old kind woman who gave him some food and a gun to protect himself in a rainy day.At the same time, Ada Monroe’s father passed away and she had to learn how to be independent to survive in the war and she got help from a young lady called Ruby Thewes whose father, a singer, left her when she was a little girl, living a poor life. Compared with Inman, they had been living a rather more comfortable and easier life until the security guard appeared in their town. Many tragedies happened because of their arrival. One day, Ruby’s father and his partner were grasped by them to entertain them. Hearing the bad news, Ada and Ruby could n’t wait to save him and left their house to look for him. Unfortunately, his partner was killed by the cruel people and he was shot and hardly dead by the security guard of the hometown in a cold evening in the winter. Luckily, Ada and Ruby found him in time and saved him. When Ada was looking for food to care for them, she saw a man dressed in black on the snowy ground and wanted to shoot him. She noticed he was Inman, her lover by chance. They had a long talk with each other to express their missing and love. Naturally, they were married without a big wedding and had a beautiful sex on the evening of that day in a deserted room. Unluckily, they were found by the security guard. They could run away to escape from this danger, but they decided to have a fierce fight with them for freedom. They tried their best to fight and the security guards were all killed byInman. Unluckily, Inman was shot to die. It was miserable. While, there was a happy ending .Ada had a baby, a lovely girl for Inman one year later.
