【课堂探究】

情态动词must, may , might, could, can’t表示推测含义与用法后面都接动词原形,都可以表示对现在情况的揣测和推断但他们含义有所不同:

must 一定肯定 (100%的可能性), 常用于肯定句;

may, might, could有可能,也许(20%-80%的可能性);

can’t不可能,不会 (0%)用于否定句。

表示推测的情态动词。

1) must 表示推测时只用于肯定句,表示很有把握的推测。意思为“一定”。其否定形式

为can’t,表示“不一定”,mustn’t则表示“不准,禁止”。

e.g. Our teacher must be in the office because the light is on.

我们的老师一定在办公室,因为灯还亮着。

它不可能是约翰的。它对他太小了。

2) may, could, might 表示表示“可能” , could, might语气更委婉, might语气最为缓和,

含义更不确定。

3) can, could , may , might , must 皆可表示推测,但他们也有区别:

must只用于肯定句,can用于一般疑问句或否定句。

could,might,表示推测时,不表示时态,其推测的程度不如can, may must 的否定形式用can’t,(mustn’t表示禁止,不表推测)

however是一个转折连词,表示“然而,可是”的意思,与but的意义相同,但however 是较正式的说法。
