青春须早为,岂能长少年中考英语作文

青春须早为,岂能长少年中考英语作文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Youth is Fleeting, So Seize the Day!Hello friends! My name is Emily and I'm 11 years old. Today I want to talk to you about why we need to make the most of our youth while we're still young. After all, we won't be kids forever!I love being a kid. There's so much fun and so little responsibility. I can play outside with my friends after school, have sleepovers on the weekends, and my biggest worry is finishing my homework on time. Life is pretty carefree. But I've started to realize that childhood doesn't last forever. My older sister is 16 and always reminds me "Emily, enjoy being a kid while you can! It goes by so fast." She's right - in just 5 years, I'll be her age and then I'll be a teenager with teenage issues like dealing with hormones, dating, getting a part-time job, and deciding what I want to do after high school. No thank you! Then in just a blink of an eye after that, I'll be an adult with even more responsibilities like getting a full-time job, maybegetting married and having kids of my own, paying bills, and so much more. Where did all the fun, carefree days of childhood go? Adulthood sounds exhausting! That's why I really need to seize this special time of being a kid and having minimal responsibilities. I need to stay young at heart and enjoy all the amazing things about childhood while I still can. Here are some of my favorite things about being a kid that I never want to take for granted:Playing All DayIsn't it the best when you can just head outside after school and gather all your friends for an epic outdoor adventure? We run around playing tag, build fortresses, have water balloons fights in the summer, and use the green space as our playground. No schedule, no plans, just pure play and fun. Adults don't get big chunks of unscheduled free time like that to just go out and play!SleepoversSleepovers are the best! You get to stay up late with your closest friends, eat all the junk food you want, play games, watch movies, tell scary stories, and have a blast. Sleepover traditionslike these create such special childhood memories. I'll definitely miss these when I'm older and don't have sleepovers anymore. No PressureAs a kid, you don't have big looming decisions about your future weighing you down. All the grown-up stuff like deciding on a career, figuring out finances, getting married or not, having kids or not - that's years away from being my problem, thank goodness! For now, I can just be a carefree kid without all those grown-up pressures.Summer VacationDon't you just live for summer vacation when you're a kid? Three months off from school to just relax, have fun, go on vacation with your family, or go to camp and make new friends. As an adult, you'll be lucky if you get a couple weeks off per year from work. Summer vacation is such a special childhood thing that I'll really miss when I'm older.ImaginationKids have the most amazing imaginations! We can transform the backyard into a pirate ship, the living room into a rocket to the moon, or stuff animals into guests at a royal ball. With a bit of creativity, anything is possible in our imaginary worlds. It'sharder to tap into that sense of magic and wonder when you're a cynical adult caught up in the "real world".As you can see, there are so many wonderful things about being a kid that I need to take advantage of while I still can. Youth is such a fleeting, magical time that goes by in a blink of an eye. That's why I truly believe we need to seize the day and not wish away our childhoods.I'm going to soak up all the joy, freedom, and imagination of being a kid for as long as possible. I'll go on adventures, dream big, and not let the grown-up parts of life weigh me down until I absolutely have to. I'll stay young at heart and appreciate this carefree time.Because before I know it, I'll be an angsty teenager worried about high school drama, boys, and my future career. Then I'll be a tired adult with a job, bills, and responsibilities up to my eyeballs wondering where all the fun, laidback days of childhood went. So no, I won't take my childhood for granted – I'm going to live it up and enjoy every precious moment of being a kid while I still can! Being young is something to celebrate, not to wish away.So to all my fellow kids out there, let's embrace our youth together! We're only young once, so let's play hard, imaginewildly, and not let the realities of grown-up life bring us down until they absolutely have to. Let's seize this extraordinary time of childhood and make the most of every single day! Who's with me?篇2Youth Must Be Seized Early, Not Lingered in AdolescenceHey there! I'm just a regular kid, but I've got some thoughts to share with you about this whole "youth" thing. I mean, we're always being told to make the most of our youth, right? Well, let me tell you, I'm not wasting a single minute of it!You see, when you're a kid, the world is like this massive playground, just waiting to be explored. Every day is an adventure, filled with new sights, sounds, and experiences. And you know what? I'm determined to soak up every last bit of it before I grow up and become a boring adult. Now, don't get me wrong, being a grown-up has its perks. You get to stay up late, eat junk food whenever you want, and no one can tell you what to do. But let's be real here, that's not nearly as exciting as the life of a kid. We get to play games, make up silly jokes, and use our imagination to turn the most ordinary things into extraordinary adventures.Take my best friend, Tommy, for instance. One day, we were just hanging out in his backyard when we stumbled upon an old tree stump. Most people would've just seen a piece of rotting wood, but not us. In our eyes, it became a pirate ship, sailing across treacherous seas in search of buried treasure. We spent hours battling imaginary storms, fending off mutinous crews, and singing sea shanties at the top of our lungs. It was the best day ever! And that's just one example. Every single day, we're out there exploring the great unknown, whether it's a new playground, a hidden trail in the woods, or just a different route to school. We're like little adventurers, constantly seeking out new thrills and experiences. But you know what really bugs me? When I see other kids my age just sitting around, glued to their phones or video games.I mean, sure, those things are fun and all, but they're missing out on the real adventure of childhood. It's like they're stuck in this weird limbo, not quite kids and not quite adults, just lingering in adolescence. That's not for me, though. I'm determined to make the most of every second of my youth. Whether it's playing sports, learning new skills, or just goofing around with my friends, I'm allin. Because once you're an adult, you can't really go back, you know? You're stuck in the real world, with responsibilities and bills to pay and all that boring stuff. So, my advice to all you other kids out there is this: seize the day! Get out there and explore, play, and have as much fun as you possibly can. Don't waste a single minute of your youth just sitting around, because before you know it, it'll be gone. And to all the grown-ups reading this, well, I feel a little sorry for you. Sure, you had your chance at being a kid, but now it's over. So, maybe try to remember what it was like, and live a little vicariously through us kids, huh? We're the ones having all the real adventures these days.Anyway, that's my two cents on the whole "youth" thing. I've got to run now, though. Tommy and I are planning an epic expedition to the creek behind his house, and we need to stock up on supplies (read: snacks). Who knows what kind of wild beasts or hidden treasures we might encounter? Only one way to find out!So long, adults! Try not to be too jealous of our awesome kid lives, okay?篇3Youth is Fleeting, So Make the Most of ItHi there! My name is Tommy and I'm 10 years old. My teacher Mrs. Jenkins asked us to write an essay about why it's important to make the most of being young while we can. At first I wasn't sure what to write, but then I remembered all the fun times I've had as a kid and how quickly the years seem to be going by. Before you know it, I'll be a teenager and then an adult with all sorts of responsibilities. So I think it's really important to enjoy my childhood while it lasts! One of my favorite things about being a kid is having no major worries or stress. My biggest concerns are things like making sure I get to recess on time or deciding what game to play with my friends. I don't have bills to pay, a job to go to, or any of the countless adult problems my parents seem to deal with. Instead, my days are pretty much wide open for fun, games, and using my imagination to its fullest.Speaking of imagination, that's another great part of childhood. As a kid, you can imagine up entire worlds and scenarios to play act or get lost in through books, movies, or games. Why be a regular person when you can be a superhero, an astronaut, a dinosaur, or anything else you can dream up?Adults have to be realistic and logical all the time, but kids can let their minds run wild wherever they want to go.That's not to say being a kid is all fun and games though. We still have school work, chores, and responsibilities too. But even with those things, there's a simplicity to being young that I really appreciate. Everything isn't analyzed or overcomplicated like it often is with grown-ups. As a kid, you see things for what they are in that moment without getting bogged down by intricate layers of context or deeper meaning behind every little thing. The world is more straightforward and accessible that way.Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to eventually become an adult and get to do"adult" things like driving a car, going to college, pursuing a career, and so on. But I also know those grown-up privilges come with grown-up headaches - paying rent, dealing with work stress, taking care of a family, and lots of other concerns I'm blissfully ignorant of at this age. That's why I want to take full advantage of having a relatively carefree life while I still can. That means doing all the quintessential kid activities - playing games, being outdoors, using my creativity, spending time with friends, reading books, watching movies, and just generally experiencing the joys and adventures that are so muchharder to come by in adulthood. It's about squeezing every last drop out of my childhood years so that when I do eventually grow up, I can look back with zero regrets and a heart filled with amazing memories. My friends and I sometimes joke about never becoming adults because being a kid is just so much fun. But we all know that's not how it works - we're going to keep getting older whether we like it or not. So instead of fighting the inevitable, I'm choosing to embrace my childhood and soak up as much of the youthful, unbridled spirit as I possibly can. Before I know it,I'll be a pimply teenager stressed about grades, college apps, and all that stuff. Just a few years after that, I'll be an adult with a career, bills, a family, and cultivating that youthful energy will become exponentially harder. That's why I need to start taking advantage now.To all the other kids out there, my advice is to not wish away your childhoods or constantly look ahead to being grown-ups. Yes, being an adult has its advantages, but kids have it made in a lot of ways too. We have fewer troubles, more energy, superior imaginations, and the ability to experience the world in a beautifully simple way. Those are gifts that will be much harder to come by in our later years. So let's relish this time while we stillcan! Let's play as hard as we can, dream as big as we can, be as silly as we can, and soak up every last ounce of the awesome childhood experience. After all, being a kid is something that's over way too fast no matter what we do. But if we make an effort to fully embrace these precious years while we have them, the memories will stick with us for life long after our youthful days are done.篇4Youth Must Be Seized EarlyHi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 6th grade student getting ready to take the big middle school entrance exam. The theme for the essay this year is "Youth must be seized early, one cannot remain young forever." At first I wasn't sure what this proverb meant, but after thinking about it, I realize it has a very important message for kids my age. When you're young like me, it's easy to take your childhood and youth for granted. The days seem to stretch on forever with no responsibilities beyond going to school, doing homework, and playing. As kids, we think this wonderful carefree time will last forever. But the truth is, childhood is actually very fleeting. Before you know it, you'll be an adult with lots of big responsibilities like getting a job, earning money to support yourself, maybe getting married and having kids of your own one day. The simplicity and freedom of being a child will be gone. So this proverb is reminding us kids that we need to take full advantage of our childhood and youth while we have it. Don't wish away this special time - make the most of it!That's not to say we shouldn't work hard or have any responsibilities as kids. Quite the opposite! The proverb is saying we need to seize and embrace youth. That means working hard on developing ourselves through study, extracurricular activities, exploring interests, building skills, and more. If we just goof off and waste our childhoods, we'll miss a precious opportunity for growth. My parents are always stressing how fast childhood goes and that I need to cherish this time. They remind me that developing good habits like discipline, curiosity, and a strong work ethic now will pay off huge in the future. They've seen how quickly kids grow up and don't want me to have regrets about not making the best use of my youth. One of the reasons I'm working so hard to prepare for the middle school entrance exam is because I don't want to wishaway my childhood, but I also know the importance of laying a strong academic foundation. Getting into a good middle school puts me on the right path towards future success. It's a way of seizing my youth by studying and applying myself now.At the same time, I don't just spend all my time studying. Outside of school, I make sure to spend plenty of time having fun and exploring my interests and hobbies. I love playing basketball, watching movies with my friends, reading comic books, and building with Legos. Even though academics are important, having a balance by enjoying childhood pleasures is key. Those childish pursuits help develop creativity, problem-solving, socializing and other vital skills for the future. One of the saddest things I've noticed is kids who grow up too fast by taking on too many adult-like responsibilities and worries at a young age. They get robbed of their childhoods too soon. While having a sense of responsibility and discipline is great, going too far with that as a kid isn't healthy. Kids who act like little adults miss out on being kids.I have a cousin who is also in 6th grade, but she doesn't seem interested in any kids' activities anymore. She just studies constantly, doesn't spend time with friends, and seems to think being a kid is a waste of time. She's in such a rush to grow up andI worry she'll end up regretting not enjoying her childhood more. There's plenty of time to be an adult later on!That's why I believe this proverb is reminding us kids to find a balance. We need to seize our childhoods and make the most of our youth by working hard to develop ourselves through academics, activities, interest exploration and more. But we also need to actually embrace being a child by leaving time for fun, hobbies, socializing with friends, using our imaginations and creativity, and enjoying the simplicity and freedom of this age. Youth is a magical, fleeting time and we can't let it pass by without taking advantage of it.So in conclusion, while we may be little kids now, childhood isn't something to wish away or waste. We need to cherish our youth by working hard to build a strong foundation for our futures, but also by letting our inner children run free and soak up the joyful, playful moments of being a kid. The proverb is wise – we must seize our youths early before this incredibly special, once-in-a-lifetime phase is gone forever. I'm going to do my best to embrace that mindset. Thanks for reading!篇5Youth Must Be Well Spent, For We Cannot Stay Young ForeverHi there! My name is Emily and I'm 11 years old. I'm in the last year of primary school and will be taking my exams to get into secondary school soon. My teacher Mrs. Roberts has been telling our class how important it is to make the most of our youth and work hard now, while we're young and our minds are still developing quickly. She says we can't just laze around because before we know it, we'll be all grown up and it will be too late to develop ourselves properly. I think she's totally right!Being a kid is awesome in so many ways. We get to play, be carefree, use our imaginations, and just have fun without too many worries or responsibilities. But childhood is also the perfect time to learn and grow into the best version of ourselves. Our brains are like sponges at this age, soaking up new information and skills way faster than we'll be able to when we're older. That's why it's so crucial to take advantage of this special period and work hard at building a solid foundation of knowledge and abilities. If we just goof off and play video games all day, we'll miss out on developing crucial skills in reading, writing, math, science, and so on. These basics are like thebuilding blocks for everything else we'll need to learn and accomplish later in life.My parents are always stressing how important it is for me to become fluent in English, since it's the global language these days. They push me to read lots of English books, write stories, watch educational shows, and practice conversing as much as possible. At first I found it pretty difficult and tedious compared to just speaking Chinese at home. But now I'm so grateful they made me work at it from a young age. Being bilingual is going to open up so many more opportunities for me in the future!Math is another subject I used to really dislike. I found it boring to memorize multiplication tables and work through tedious equations. But Mrs. Roberts explained how math teaches crucial analytical thinking, logic, and problem-solving abilities that will be invaluable in any career I pursue later on. Now that I've stuck with it, math actually makes a lot more sense and I've even started enjoying the challenge of solving complex problems. If I had just given up on it early, my brain might have never developed those critical reasoning skills properly.Sports and physical activity are also so important for kids to prioritize. It's tempting to just lounge around scrolling on our tablets, but exercising and playing sports helps us developcoordination, stamina, discipline and a competitive spirit. Mrs. Roberts has our class run laps, play soccer, and do active games at least a couple times a week. Sometimes it's tiring, but I know it's helping build lifelong habits that will allow me to stay healthy and active my whole life. Kids who just sit around watching TV and playing indoor videogames all day are sadly missing out on crucial physical development.Another amazing opportunity we have as kids is to pick up new hobbies, arts, or skills while our minds are still fresh and uncluttered. My friend Jacob has been learning the piano since he was 6 years old, and the talent he's developed is honestly mind-blowing. I've also started taking painting classes, and while I'm not a master or anything, it's giving me a creative outlet and who knows, maybe it will blossom into a lifelong passion as I get more practice. If we wait until we're adults to try learning a musical instrument or new artistic skill, it's going to be so much harder. Our brains will already be full of other worries, stresses and responsibilities that make it tougher to stick with difficult new hobbies. That's why it's absolutely crucial to take advantage of having few commitments and distractions during childhood to pick up new skills and expand our talents. So many adults look back at their childhoods with regret, wishing they had applied themselves more, developed better study habits, picked up valuable skills, or stayed more physically active. As kids, we're in such an amazing position to lay the groundwork for being intelligent, talented, and well-rounded adults who have the whole world篇6Here's an English essay of around 2,000 words in the voice of an elementary school student on the theme "Seize the day, don't waste your youth":My Awesome Adventures in Growing UpHi there! My name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. I'm here to tell you all about my awesome adventures in growing up so far. It's been a wild ride, let me tell you!I feel like just yesterday I was a tiny little kid, playing with my toys and not having a care in the world. Those were the days, you know? Just running around, getting into mischief, and having my parents deal with the mess. Classic kid stuff! But then something started to change...I started noticing that I was getting taller and my body was changing. I couldn't quite put my finger on it at first, but I knew things were different. My little kid clothes didn't fit right anymore and I had to get new ones. That's when it hit me - I was growing up!At first, I didn't really know how to feel about it. Part of me was excited to be a "big kid" and do more grown-up things. But another part of me was sad to be leaving that little kid life behind.I loved being a little goofball without a care in the world. Growing up seemed like a lot of work! But as time went on, I started to see that there were a lot of awesome things about getting older too. I could start doing activities that required more skills, like joining the school band or playing sports. I had more freedom to hang out with my friends without my parents constantly looking over my shoulder. And I even got to stay up a little later at night!I'm not gonna lie, settling into my new "grown-up" routine wasn't always easy. There were plenty of times I slipped up, forgetting assignments or leaving my laundry on the floor. My parents had to keep me in line and remind me what was expected. But you know what? I'm actually grateful for that now.Learning responsibility is tough, but it's an important part of preparing for even bigger things in the future. These days, I feel like I'm in a pretty sweet spot as a10-year-old. I've got enough freedom and privileges to feel like a real "big kid", but I'm not being overwhelmed with too many grown-up burdens just yet. I mean, I still get to be a kid and have fun! I can play sports, video games, you name it. But now I'm also building skills and qualities that will help me take on more as I move into my teenage years. And you know what the coolest thing is? This is just the beginning! There's so much more awesomeness ahead as I continue growing up. I can't even imagine what life is going to be like as a teenager or an adult. New challenges for sure, but also new mind-blowing experiences and opportunities. I'm actually really excited to see what the future holds. So to all you kids out there, here's my advice: don't fight growing up, embrace it! Change can be scary, but get excited about everything that comes with your awesome journey into being a big kid and then a teen and adult. It's going to be an incredible adventure full of amazing new things. And if you ever feel a little overwhelmed, just take a deep breath. You've got this! Growing up is a process and it takes timeto adjust to all the new stuff. But if you take it step-by-step and have a positive attitude, you're going to do just great.Trust me, as long as you have the courage to take on new responsibilities and keep learning, your youth is going to be packed with fun, excitement and unforgettable moments. So don't waste a second of it! Make the most of every year and get ready for the awesome grown-up life that's waiting for you. The adventure has just begun!。

备战2021届高考英语阅读之说明文(十)

备战2021高考英语阅读之说明文(十)(A)Every year around the world, humans waste an estimated 1.3 billion tons of food. This happens even though many people go hungry. So some people have made it their life's work claiming food before it goes to waste and then giving it to people who are hungry. One of those people is Brett Myers. In 2011, Myers started Nourish Now, a food recovery and food bank in the U.S. state of Maryland. This nonprofit organization collects food and then gives it to the poor and organizations that support them.“Nourish Now is a food recovery based food bank that recovers food from restaurants, catering companies, grocery stores, hotels, farms and more. And then donates that food directly to families in need, kids in need at local schools.”Each month, it recovers more than 20,000 kilograms of food and serves 700 needy families, schools and social organizations. Every day, staff and volunteers repackage the donations and distribute them to recipients(接受者).A woman named Rhoda is one of the recipients. She describes the quality of the food delivered to her family by Nourish Now. “It consists of fresh food, fruits and vegetables. You will get bread. Sometimes you get dairy Products such as yogurt or milk. And you will get some meat items also. And if you get lucky you might get cooked food, or prepared salads, and stuff like that.”The supplies can feed a family for five days. Each recipient is able to receive food every 30 days. And the packages are made to fit the dietary needs of each family.Besides families, the organization also donates small meals called snacks to several nearby schools and social organizations.Nourish Now has grown considerably since it opened. Brenda is one of them. Part of her job as a volunteer is to make sure that none of the food goes to waste.“In the morning, I make sure that all the things that came late yesterday get put away so that we use that last, and we used the things that came the day before first, so that we're always giving fresh food and we're not throwing out an ything.”1.What do we know about Nourish Now?A.It donates money to the poor. B.It benefits from collecting food.C.It gets food from many places. D.It distributes food only to the poor. 2.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to?A.Nourish Now. B.Food banks.C.The poor. D.Organizations.3.What does the author want to clarify with the example Rhoda in Paragraph 5?A.She can get food donations every five days.B.She isn't satisfied with the food supplied.C.Eating better can keep people healthier.D.The recovered food is fresh and rich.4.What is the best title for the text?A.A Group Uses Leftover Food to Feed the HungryB.The Poor Are Suffering from StarvationC.Nourish Now Calls on People to Save FoodD.People Should Take Care of the Weak(B)Young trees don't just grow; they develop a personality and learn more about their environment and how they should best behave in it. They also help each other out whenever there's trouble.Personality, just as among people, varies among trees. Some are anxious, some bold. On the author's land, there are three oak trees growing close together. One of the oak trees always starts to shed its leaves two weeks earlier than the others. Since they all experience the same temperature, the same soil and the same length of day, such variables can't be the explanation. So what's happening? Well, this tree is simply more careful than the others. Whoever holds on to their leaves longer can do more photosynthesis(光合作用) and store more nutrients. However, the longer a tree keeps its leaves, the higher the risk of injury. Not only do trees make their own decisions, they also learn from their mistakes. A tree, for example, keeping its leaves too long during one year will never make this mistake again. This leads to several other conclusions:trees must notice the temperature and the length of the day andbe able to save their experiences somewhere. Obviously, trees don't have brains, but it is thought that in the sensitive tips of their roots they keep track of information and experiences. But trees aren't only clever when it comes to caring for themselves. They also support each other whenever there's trouble by giving warnings and even taking care of sick and weak conspecifics with nutrients. For example, one time the author found a very old tree stump. Its insides had rotted a long time ago to topsoil. But the wood on the outside of the stump was still living. How was this possible? Well, the stump was nourished by its neighbors with nutrients from the root system, and had been for at least 400 years! Why do trees do_such_a_thing? It's simple: it's better together. Trees need the forest; it protects them from storms, provides the right microclimate and warns them of attacks.1.Why does the author mention the three oak trees?A.To illustrate trees can learn from experiences.B.To show trees can make independent decisions.C.To explain trees are quite supportive to each other.D.To prove trees have the same personalities as humans.2.According to the text, which of the following best describes general features of trees?A.Anxious and bold. B.Smart and adventurous.C.Helpful and well behaved. D.Adaptable and supportive.3.What does the underlined phrase “do such a thing” mean?A.Give warnings. B.Offer assistance.C.Depend on others. D.Provide nutrients.4.Where does this text most probably come from?A.A public lecture. B.A science book.C.An experiment report. D.A travel journal.(C)We humans love to stare into our smart devices. We gaze for hours-about 10 hours and 39 minutes a day—at our computers, smartphones, tablets and televisions. Is all this staring bad for us? It might be, mainly because as we stare at our devices we are exposing ourselves to blue light.Blue light is a type of electromagnetic(电磁的) radiation with a very short wavelength that produces a high amount of energy. While it's true that light can damage our eyes under certain circumstances, there's no scientific evidence suggesting that blue light is harmful to our eyes. But many people still think it is, which is why bluelightblocking glasses are so popular. So do the glasses work?“Everyone is very concerned that blue light may be causing damage to the eye, but there's no evidence that it may be causing serious damage,” Dr.Ra hul Khurana, clinical spokesman for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, told Business Insider.Blue light exposure is nothing new. In fact, the sun is the largest source of blue light. Moreover, blue light is also present in LED light. But if blue light isn't harmful, then why are we constantly rubbing our eyes when we're looking at our screens? The answer is eyestrain(眼疲劳):More than 60 percent of people experience eye problems associated with digital eyestrain. And blue light, it seems, isn't the cause. Instead, our eyes are so strained because most of us blink less when we stare at our digital devices. So if eyestrain is the issue, bluelightblocking glasses are probably of little use.1.What do we know about blue light?A.It is a kind of nuclear radiation.B.It has the shortest wavelength.C.It may come from electronic devices.D.It consumes a great deal of energy.2.What causes the popularity of bluelightblocking glasses?A.Evidence of their benefits to eyes.B.Belief in blue light's harmful effect.C.Widespread use of smart devices.D.Scientific understanding of blue light.3.What can be inferred from Paragraph 4?A.Blue light exposure is hardly avoidable.B.Eye problems are not easy to deal with.C.Blue light may connect with tired eyes.D.Rubbing eyes makes people strained.4.According to the text, wearing bluelightblocking glasses may be ____.A.tiring B.harmful C.useless D.beneficial(D)As the old saying goes,“Don't judge a book by its cover.” And neither should we judge movie stars by their ages.At just 21, Elle Fanning made history by becoming the youngest jury(评审团) member at the Cannes Film Festival. This year it lasted from May 14th to May 25th. “I was in complete shock when I got that phone call and that question if I wanted to be a member of the Cannes Jury,” Fanning said during a press conference. As it turned out, it not only shocked the US actress, but also brought criticism from those who believed Fanning was too young compared to other veterans in the industry. But Fanning's acting experience was in fact a good argument for her jury membership. In fact, Fanning has been a Hollywood fixture for longer than you realize. The 21yearold has been in many big productions. She began acting in I AM Sam at age 3. With lead roles in movies like Super8, We Bought a Zoo and Maleficent under her belt, she's appeared in 60 projects and is one of Hollywood's hottest young stars. Fanning's devotion to work numbers her among the few former child stars who continue to act as adults. In her latest movie Teen Spirit, which hit US cinemas last month, Fanning plays a pop singer. Since she had no singing experience, Fanning had to work with Grammywinning music producer Marius de Vries for three months before the filming started. “I would go to his apartment and sing through all the songs every day,” she said. “He videoed me and recorded me singing everything and made me watch it back again and again to improve my skills.”With such rich acting experience and devotion to her art, Fanning certainly was able to “represent a new class in film” at the Cannes Film Festival.1.What does the underlined word “veterans” probably mean?A.Shocked actresses. B.Green hands.C.Experienced people. D.Music producers.2.In which film does Fanning play a pop singer?A.I AM Sam. B.Super 8.C.We Bought a Zoo. D.Teen Spirit.3.What does the writer think of Elle Fanning?A.Wealthy. B.Devoted. C.Considerate. D.Friendly. 4.What is the main idea of the text?A.Elle Fanning's earning her honor. B.A person judged by appearance.C.Introducing some famous films. D.Elle Fanning's presenting in a new film.(E)Around 45% of plastic waste is recycled annually in the UK and plastic waste is on the increase. However, one of the problems with present plastic recycling methods is that you end up with a lower-quality plastic with worse properties (特性) than the original. This means that plastic drink bottles cannot simply be recycled into new drink bottles continuously, but instead are used for other lower-grade products like park benches. Now,British scientists have developed a new method of chemical recycling. They use lower temperatures and more environmentally friendly chemicals than previous methods to turn plastics back into their constituent chemical molecules (分子).In this way, they can be used to make new plastics of the same quality as the original.“Most plastics are now recycled using mechanical methods, where they are transformed into liquids before being made into something new,”said a professor named Matthew Jones.“The problem is,melting plastic changes its properties and reduces the quality. Our method of chemical recycling overcomes this problem. Then plastics can be used all over again without losing any properties.”The researchers are recycling some kinds of plastics, including plant-based PLA,a plastic used for food packaging and PET,which is used for drink bottles. So far,the technology has only been demonstrated in a small range. However, scientists are now working to produce larger quantities of chemicals.“There is no single solution to the problem of plastic waste—the approach has to be a combination of reducing, reusing and recycling. Our method of chemical recycling could allow carbon to be recycled endlessly rather than digging more up from the ground in the form of fossilfuels,or letting it into the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas,”said Dr.Paul McKeown from the University of Bath.1.What is the problem with the present plastic recycling?A.The quality of recycled plastics declines.B.Plastic drink bottles cannot be recycled.C.The amount of plastic waste is increasing.D.Recycled lower-grade products sell badly.2.How do scientists recycle plastic waste with the new method?A.By transforming it into fuels.B.By heating it into the liquid state.C.By keeping its original properties.D.By changing its molecule structure.3.What can we learn from what Dr.Paul McKeown said?A.Fossil fuels are endless resources.B.The plastic waste problem has no solution.C.Recycled carbon leads to greenhouse gases.D.The chemical recycling is environmentally friendly.4.In which part of the website can we find the text?A.Business.B.Technology & Science.C.Lifestyle.D.Art & Culture.参考答案:A1.C根据第三段第一句“Nourish Now is a food recoverybased food bank that recovers food from restaurants, catering companies, grocery stores, hotels, farms and more”可知,Nourish Now是一个以食物回收为基础的食物银行,从餐馆、餐饮公司、杂货店、酒店、农场等回收食物。

听得多了,孩子可以做到用英语“见什么人说什么话”;念得多了,还可以做到“知书达理”。
千万不要低估孩子的语言潜能。
