And the boy-who could not have been more than seven or eight years old-replied,"Frankly, I've been feeliiig a little depressed lately. " This incident stuck in my mindbecause it confirmed my growing belief that children are changing. As far as I can remember, my friends and I didn't find out we were "depressedw until we were in high school. The evidence of a change in children has increased steadily in recent years. Children don't seem childlike anymore. Children speak more like adults, dress more like adults and behave more like adults than they used to.Whether this is good or bad is difficult to say, but it certainly is different. Childhood as it once was no longer exists. Why?Human development is based not only on innate(天生的) biological states, but also on patterns of access to social knowledge Movement from one social recitation to another usuallyinvolves learning the secrets of the new status. Children have always been taught adult secrets, but slowly and in stages: traditionally, we tell sixth graders things we keep hidden from fifth graders. In the last 30 years, however, a secret-revelation(揭示) machine has been installed in 98 percent of American homes. It is called television Television passes information, and indiscriminately(不加区分地), to all viewers alike, whether they are children or adults. Unableto resist the temptation, many children turn their attention from printed texts to the less challenging, more vivid moving pictures.Communication through print, as a matter of fact, allows for a great deal of control over the social information to which children have access. Reading and writing involve a complex code of symbols that must be memorized and practiced Children must read simple books before they can read complex materials.61. People may not feel back to normal for hours or even for days.Migraine headaches are most common among young adults and middle-aged people. In the United States, about eighteen percent of women and six percent of men report having migraines.People who suffer from migraines can find that different "triggers" in different people may get a headache started. Stress can act as a trigger. Many migraine sufferers say hot weather and low barometric pressure(气压) can act as triggers, but researchers say they did not have much scientific evidence of that until now.In a new study, a team exanuned the medical records of seven thousand hospital patients. The patients had visited the emergency room at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, because of a headache. More than two thousand of them had been found to have a migraine. The team then compared those records to weather conditions in the twenty-four hours before the hospital visits. For every increase of five degrees Celsius in air temperature, the patients had a seven and one-half percent higher risk of migraine. Decreases in barometric pressure two to three days before the visit also appeared to cause headaches.A separate study has found that age, gender and where a person has extra body fat may affect the risk of migraine. It found that overweight people between the ages of twenty and fifty-five may have a higher risk On average, those who were larger around the middle weremore likely to have migraines than those of the same age with smaller waistlines(腰围).Experts suggest that losing weight in the stomach area may help younger people who experience migraines, especially women Doing exerases regularly is also helpful to reducing migraine headaches Title: 71.72. 0 73._ No_ feel back to normal for hours or even days. common groupsYoung adults and 74.StressHot weather- every increase of five degrees Celsius: seven and one-half percent higher risk of migraine 75. 76. 77. decreases two to three days before the visit appeared to cause headaches A separate study 78. and where a personhas extra body fat- overweight people between twenty and fifty-five have a higherrisk 79 .O Losing weight in the stomach area 0 80. _Section B(10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage.
