其实，严格意义上粤语流行歌曲的兴起，是以1974年的 电视剧主题歌《啼笑因缘》和电影《鬼马双星》为标志的。 这两首歌曲奠定了粤语歌的地位，并使粤语歌曲处于与国语 、英文歌曲三足鼎立的状态。而许冠杰就是当时演唱粤语歌 曲的代表人物。他的粤语歌和白雪仙的粤剧、罗文的电视剧 主题歌完全不一样，不再唱古典、优雅的文言词汇，而是把 普通老百姓的口语写进歌词。
