Using the Right Combination of Application T ooling and T erminalsis Critical for Maintaining Product Warranties and Protecting Y our InvestmentTOOLING AND WARRANTY-ULBUSINESS CHALLENGECustomers jeopardize reliability, safety and their product warranties if they do not use the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) tooling and terminals which have been designed and qualified together in the proper application and adhere to UL specifications.There are several common instances where a customer risks losing the warranty for their specific application when using industry standard products:• If the product and/or its components have been modified or improperlyhandled, used or installed.• If the OEM tooling is used with any product other than the OEM approvedproduct for which the tooling wasdesigned to operate.• If the wire termination is accomplished using equipment other than thespecified OEM application tooling. Anon-OEM crimp press can be used butthe applicator or touch tooling thatforms the terminal around the wiremust use OEM tooling.Customers also need to take intoconsideration the UL designation forterminal and connector products. MostOEM terminals and connectors are ULrecognized and approved for use inan end product that complies with ULrequirements. However, it is differentwith closed barrel terminals like rings,spades, splices and quick connects. Thecombination of OEM specified tooling andthese closed barrel terminals earns a ULListing, which demands that the OEMproduct itself comply with UL requirementsand be subjected to UL testing andinspections. Should customers use anincorrect combination of terminal andtooling, or use the terminal in an applicationexceeding the defined product parametersor UL standard, they not only void theirwarranty and UL Listing but exposethemselves to product liability issues.SOLUTIONBy using the completeMolex Interconnect System – including the correct combination of Molex terminals and specified tooling – customers receive a reliable solution each and every time while maintaining their product warranty and meeting different industry standards like the UL Listing requirements.Molex understands that identifying the right tooling equipment to use witha specific connector system can be challenging. 一种高速背板用高密度数据传输连接器设计邵建兴;张杰【摘要】从理论设计、仿真分析和产品测试3个方面对一种高速背板用高密度数据传输连接器进行了分析设计。

通过对差分信号的特征阻抗、串扰、插入损耗等参数的分析,对连接器的插针接触件、PCB传输线和介质体进行了设计。

采用电磁场与电路联合仿真的分析方法,从时域、频域和数据域3个方面对所设计的连接器进行了仿真分析。

最后,通过对连接器的信号完整性测试结果表明:连接器的高速性能满足12.5 Gbit/s的高速背板传输性能要求。

%A high density connector for high-speed backplane is designed and analyzed from theory,simulation and test. By analyzing the characteristic impedance,crosstalk and insert loss,the insert contact,PCB transmission line, substrate of the connector are designed. The connector simulation is performed from time-domain,frequency-domain and data-domain by using electromagnetic field and circuit combined simulation method. Quick Reference GuideSFP+ PLUGGABLE I/O INTERCONNECTS/products/sfpplusTE Connectivity’s (TE) family of SFP+ interconnects are designed to transfer data at speeds of up to 16 Gb/s. The portfolio features 20-position SMT connectors as well as cages in multiple configurations, and with elastomeric gasket or enhanced EMI springs to address EMI containment at higher data rates. The SFP+ interconnect family also includes thermal- and EMI-enhanced stacked configurations to further improve performance.Complementary SFP+ direct-attach copper cable assemblies are also offered by TE as a high-speed, cost-effective alternative to fiber optic cables.
