A daily vigorous walk, jogging, weight lifting, aerobics, swimming, bike riding, dancing or a dance class, football, basketball, etc. are all great ways to relieve the chemical stress hormones.Step 2Eating RightEating a balanced diet will not only make you feel better it will relieve some of the stress and certainly won't add to it. When you eat a diet high in sugars, cholesterol, and fat,you add to the trauma in your system. Concentrate on a high protein, veggie, fruit diet and you will see remarkable improvements. Also whole grains promote production of the brain neurotransmitter serotonin for a greater sense of well-being. When you bine healthier eating with exercise your body will respond favorably and the stress levels will start to decrease.Step 3Change Your MindsetIf you walk around all day saying “I'm so stressed”,you will be. Positive thinking is crucial to relieving the mental stress. Our minds are so powerful that we can actually increase our stress by the way we think and the things we speak. If you develop a new mindset that is positive in nature and optimistic, studies have shown this to be a reliever of stress. Meditation is a prime way to change your mindset and refocus on the positives and what is really important. Try yoga or visualization imagery to assist.Ⅱ.Reasons Why People Find Relief in SmokingSmoking is a harmful habit and makes one addicted once they start doing it. However, what are the reasons why people still continue to smoke? These people know the harmful and if long term, even life threatening effects of smoking but it seems nobody heeds the warning. The number of teenagers smoking today has increased tremendously. Their parents do their best to stop them from starting the habit;however, most of them are unsuccessful. Teenagers experience a feeling of isolation. It is the time that they are confused which role to take in society. Most of them usually have identity crisis at this age and smoking makes them feel better. Once they start smoking, they soon love the feeling of contentment it brings them. Thus, they continue doing it. Peer pressure is also a great factor to this. A teenager would like to belong to a group. Being alone and no friends when you are a teenager is hard. Having some people to support you and acpany you in any social activity feels great. At this stage, teenagers feel their parents don't understand them. Everything that their parents tell them and do is against their will. They still can't understand all the things their parents are doing for them which are for their own good. Those who are non-smokers are often convinced by smokers to engage in this activity. Usually, they would smoke and drink overnight. Teenagers feel that if they won't join the group, they would lose their friends and will be left alone in which they don't want to happen. This is the reason why they continue smoking to be accepted by them. Later in life when they finally decide to stop,it bees hard as they are already addicted to it.There are also some people who smoke because of the nature of their jobs. Those who work in a very cold area or at sea smoke to keep their bodies warm. At this time, smoking brings them good benefits. Call center agents and those who work at night love drinking their favorite cup of coffee and smoking at the same time while waiting for their shift at work. This is to keep them awake and attentive to answering their clients and finishing their assigned task. However, they don't consider the long term ill effects of smoking. Smoking is addictive.Smokers are also those who are experiencing feelings of depression. They find it hard to face the challenges life brings most especially if their problems are too hard to handle. They feel that what can make them feel better is by smoking and drinking. Yes,it is true that smoking could make them feel better but it is just a temporary feeling of relief.。

unit-3《A-healthy-life》教案

Healthy LifestyleBetter lifestyle habits can help you reduce your risk for heart attack. Learn what you can do to help prevent heart disease and stroke. You Are What You EatBetter food habits can help you reduce your risk for heart attack. A healthful eating plan means choosing the right foods to eat and preparing foods in a healthy way. It’s Not Just a Man’s DiseaseHeart disease is far and away the leading cause of death of American women, but you can do a lot to help protect yourself and women from it. Read this section for some important advice.Exercise & FitnessSwimming, cycling, jogging, skiing, dancing, walking and dozens of other activities can help your heart. Whether it is included in a structured exercise program or just part of your daily routine, all physical activity adds up to a healthier heart.Managing Your LifestyleWe can help you manage your lifestyle to reduce your risk for heart attack. Eat a healthy diet, take your medicine exactly as prescribed and follow the recommendations of your team of healthcare professionals.Cholesterol Low DownTo urge Americans to reduce their risk for heart disease, the American Heart Association introduces “Taking It Personally,” as part of the Cholesterol Low Down nationa l educationA New Way to EatOn Tuesday, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) introduced MyPyramid to help Americans make healthier eating choices and to encourage exercise. Each mini pyramid is designed to help people with different lifestyles and nutritional needs to live healthier lives.MyPyramid is a series of 12 triangle shaped guides that are set up so individuals can follow a health guideline that best fits their age, whether they are male or female, and physical activity level. MyPyramid replaces the one size fits all pyramid introduced in 1992 that highlights general guidelines for all people.Looking at MyPyramidA team of doctors and scientists created the MyPyramid guidelines to help people develop better eating habits and encourage more physical activity. The USDA secretary, Mike Johanns, said the new guidelines are designed to help Americans live longer, better and healthier lives. The new guidelines suggest eating fewer solid fats, added sugars, or sweeteners and fewer high calorie, high fat products. The plans also recommend more fruits, vegetables, lean proteins like turkey and seafood, and fiber rich whole grains. Another part of each personal plan: People should get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day.Finding Your Personal Eating PlanTo find out which pyramid best suits you, visit the USDA website . After entering your age, gender and daily activity level, the USDA will recommend how much you should eat from each food category plus how much exercise you should get each day.Tips from the USDA to help kids eat more healthfully:Fruits: Top off a bowl of cereal with berries.Veggies: Order a veggie pizza with toppings like mushrooms, green peppers, and tomatoes. Ask for extra veggies.Whole Grains: Try a whole-grain snack, such as baked tortilla chips.Protein: Choose nuts (almonds, walnuts, pistachios) as a snack, on salads, or in main dishes.Calcium: For dessert, make pudding with fat-free or low-fat milk.Tips for Eating OutYou can eat out and eat healthy, too. Many restaurants offer delicious low-fat, low-cholesterol meals. Eating less fat (especially less saturated fat) and less cholesterol is important for your health. That’s because a diet high in saturated fat raises bl ood cholesterol. High blood cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart attack and stroke.A guide to choosing healthy meals away from homeFried, basted, braised, au gratin, crispy, escalloped, pan-fried, sautéed, stewed or stuffed foods are high in fat. Instead, look for steamed, broiled, baked, grilled, poached or roasted foods. If you’re not sure about a certain dish, ask your server how it’s prepared.Even if dishes low in saturated fat and cholesterol aren’t on the menu, you may still be able to get a healthy meal, because many restaurants will prepare foods to order. If you re not sure about a particular restaurant, phone before you go.High-sodium foods include those that are pickled, in cocktail sauce, smoked, in broth or au jus, in a tomato base, or in soy or teriyaki sauce. Steer clear of these. No SmokingCigarette smoking is the most important preventable cause of premature death in the United States. Want evidence of its dangers? Then consider these statistics: Smokers risk of heart attack is more than twice that of nonsmokers. Cigarette smoking is the biggest risk factor for sudden cardiac death—smokers have two to four times the risk of nonsmokers. Studies have shown that cigarette smoking is an important risk factor for stroke. Evidence also indicates that chronic exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (secondhand smoke, passive smoking) may increase the risk of heart disease. For more about Healthy Lifestyle, please go to:/presenter.jhtml?identifier=1200009。
