3.情感态度与价值观：通过对阅读文章的学习，使学生了解美国民权运动领袖Dr. Martin Luther King被杀及震惊世界的9.11恐怖袭击事件。
进而激起学生对政治领袖大无畏精神的崇敬和对恐怖分子的憎恨之情。
二.教学重难点：1.教学重点：①结合阅读文章进一步理解过去进行时的表意功能；②使学生掌握阅读策略：Reading the Title and First Sentences.2.教学难点：文章中较难复合句的理解。
三.教法与学法：1.教学方法：①任务型教学法。
根据教材设计的activities 2b-2e,引导学生“在做中学，学中做”完成这些任务。
②“思维导图”教学法。
在这节课中，以两件大事为主线，运用“思维导图”辅助英语阅读教学，从“导入—阅读—复述—对话”，由浅入深，使学生逐渐掌握文章的思想内容和语言知识点，又培养了学生的思维能力。
2.学习方法：自主探究、小组合作和分组竞争。
