My speech of festivals around the worldMy topic is festivals around the world. First, I want to say, My topic is totally written by myself. So I would appreciate it if you give me some advice after listening to the speech. The reading‟s organization plays an important part in my speech, because my topic is totally based on the reading and another reason is that the reading is not the passage of our students‟book, but out-of-class reading materials.So I think the materials of the reading are very important and it took me much time to prepare for it .After my speech of festivals around the world is attached to the reading materials.Secondly,the normal reading steps refer to the pre-reading , fast-reading , careful-reading , post-reading , but I think out-of-class reading will have much difference from those steps .What‟s more , the teaching aims , the teaching important points aren‟t the same with them. So, according to the facts, I‟ll design the different teaching aims , different teaching steps , different teaching methods .Next is my teaching steps.一.Warming upWarming up of the reading is so important that every teacher will put much attention to it, so I think I will make it creative , interesting , intelligent.For one thing , I will introduce myself to the students. I will pay attention to using slow English and won‟t forget to smile to the students.Another thing,I will design a easier leading to the class , because the students maybe are very nervous at the first sight. My question is“can you name some Chinese festivals?”The question is very easy,so the students‟ answers maybe are “the spring festival , the mid-autumn day , the dragon boat festival , the national day and so on”.Next, before the class I have prepared for some fantastic songs about festivals. I am sure that they can hear about them. Some songs are about the spring festivals (恭喜你发财,恭喜你精彩) , the mid-autumn day(明月几时有,把酒问青天), the national day (今天是你的生日,我的祖国), the children‟s day(让我们荡起双桨). When I broadcast the songs, I will ask which day is related to the song, and the students can speak about the names of the festivals. In this part I would like all the students to open their mouth and participate in my class, so I will design the easier questionsand all of them can answer me and take active in the class. 二.Process and resourcesThe splendid leading-in is necessary , but I think the process is more important , which is the soul of the class .So I put my full heart in it . Firstly , there are five brief introductions to typical holidays in the US ,and I will direct the students to fill the blanks about the names of the festivals , then press the check button to check their answers. In this part , the computer ‟s auto-check function will interest the students. Secondly, choose one passage …memorial day ‟, and I will direct the students find the keys in the holiday passage . And write the diagram on the blackboard and teach the students how to describe the festivals using key words. As follows:Thirdly , four students share a card,and there is afestival on the card .Ask the students to use the elements on name datehistoryactivities costumeelementsthe blackboard to describe the festivals that they are reading . After they read the festival and discuss with their partner, one volunteer will show the key words of the festival to the class.This part is very important, which can have the students learn about the knowledge of some festivals. We often say that students are only the center of the study and that the teachers are just the director, just like a coach in a sport team. In this part, I will pay attention to directing the students from the blanks to the summary of the festival and the design of the card. I want to teach the students how to find, summary, and create a festival. 三.Broadening of the festival knowledge There are so many holidays in the world, so it‟s time for the teacher to show some outspreading knowledge about festivals. I will introduce two festivals. One is Holi in India, the other carnival in Venice. In this part, I will use many beautiful ppt about the two festivals and a video about the carnival in Venice.Beautiful dancing, special clothing, different customs will attract the students. So I will say, “I like the festival very much, but why do I like the festival , carnival in Venice?”The students will have a short discussion about it and answer me. Maybe the answers are special clothes, the happy dancing, the freedom of the festival . This is a trick of next step and it will lay a foundation of creation of the festival.四.Creation of their own festivalWe have learned about many festivals around the world, Christmas day , Thanksgiving day, the spring festival , the mid-autumn day , the dragon-boat festival , and so on .Do you want a festival to enjoy yourselves? You won‟t go to school . You won‟t do your homework. You won‟t have the boring exams. Today I will realize your dream. We‟ll create a holiday for yourselves. “Happy students‟ day”The last task is to design the post of their students‟festival. How to design it? I will show them a post about some festival. Eventually, show the students‟ post and listen to their wonderful descriptions.In the learning of the reading of festival, I would like my students to learn about the festival around the world, as well as develop their sense of cooperation and participation and their study interests. In the out-of-class reading, cooperation and participation are more important . I havedesigned some small talks, discussions in the class, and create the post altogether.
