指环王原文英语修辞赏析

指环王原文英语修辞赏析The Lord of the Rings: A Linguistic and Rhetorical MasterpieceThe Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy saga, is not only a captivating tale of heroism, adventure, and the struggle between good and evil but also a linguistic and rhetorical masterpiece. Tolkien, a renowned philologist and scholar of Old English, infused his literary work with a depth of language and linguistic craftsmanship that elevates the narrative to a level of unparalleled artistry. One of the most striking features of Tolkien's writing is his meticulous attention to detail in the creation of the various languages and dialects that populate the world of Middle-earth. From the melodic Elvish tongues of Quenya and Sindarin to the guttural Orkish dialects, each linguistic system is meticulously crafted, with its own unique grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. This linguistic diversity not only adds to the richness and authenticity of the fictional world but also serves as a powerful tool for character development and world-building.The use of language in The Lord of the Rings is not merely a means of communication but a reflection of the characters' cultural, social, and political identities. The way in which the different races and factions of Middle-earth speak reflects their values, beliefs, and worldviews. For instance, the formal and poetic language of the Elves contrasts sharply with the more pragmatic and utilitarian speech of the Dwarves, highlighting the fundamental differences between these two ancient peoples. Moreover, Tolkien's mastery of rhetoric is evident in the way he crafts his narrative. The author's skillful use of rhetorical devices, such as metaphor, simile, and alliteration, imbues the text with a rich tapestry of imagery and emotional resonance. The famous opening lines of the novel, "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit," immediately capture the reader's attention and set the tone for the enchanting world that is to unfold.Throughout the narrative, Tolkien's use of language is not only functional but also deeply symbolic. The names of characters, places, and objects are often laden with meaning, reflecting the mythological and linguistic influences that shape the world of Middle-earth. For example, the name "Gandalf" is derived from Old Norse, meaning "staff-elf," a reference to the wizard's role as a guide and mentor to the protagonists. Moreover, the rhythmic and poetic quality of Tolkien's prose is a testament to his mastery of the English language. The author's use ofalliteration, assonance, and other sonic devices creates a sense of musicality that enhances the reading experience. This is particularly evident in the many songs and poems that are woven into the fabric of the narrative, which not only serve to deepen the reader's understanding of the characters and their cultures but also to evoke a sense of the mystical and the otherworldly. One of the most striking examples of Tolkien's linguistic artistry is the creation of the Black Speech, the language of the Dark Lord Sauron and his minions. This guttural and harsh tongue is a stark contrast to the more lyrical Elvish languages, and its use is often accompanied by a sense of dread and foreboding. The very sound of the Black Speech evokes the malevolence and power of the forces of darkness, and its presence in the narrative serves as a constant reminder of the high stakes at play.Beyond the linguistic and rhetorical elements, Tolkien's use of language also serves to convey deeper themes and philosophical ideas. The author's exploration of the nature of power, the struggle between good and evil, and the importance of courage, loyalty, and sacrifice are all woven into the fabric of the narrative through the skillful use of language. For instance, the concept of the One Ring, the central artifact of the story, is imbued with a rich symbolic significance. The Ring's powerto corrupt and enslave those who possess it is reflected in the way it is described, with its inscriptions in the Black Speech serving as a constant reminder of the evil that it represents. Moreover, the way in which the different characters interact with the Ring and the language they use to describe it reveals their own moral and ethical perspectives. The Hobbits, for example, with their humble and unassuming nature, are often the most resistant to the Ring's corrupting influence, and their language reflects this inner strength and resilience. In conclusion, The Lord of the Rings is not only a captivating work of fantasy fiction but also a masterful display of linguistic and rhetorical artistry. Tolkien's meticulous attention to detail in the creation of the various languages and dialects of Middle-earth, his skillful use of rhetorical devices, and his ability to infuse the narrative with deeper themes and philosophical ideas through the power of language all contribute to the enduring legacy of this literary masterpiece. The Lord of the Rings stands as a testament to the transformative power of language and the profound impact that a skilled wordsmith can have on the human imagination.。

of” The Lord of the Rings”When it comes to my favorite movie, I will say” The Lord of the Rings” without hesitation.Directed by Peter Jackson, the movie is very popular and has drawn large audiences by it magnificent scene of war and the vivid description of people.Telling aboutsacrificing lives todefend the homeland for the world‟s bright future, the movie consists of three parts, they are“the fellowship of the ring”, “the two towers”and” the return of the king”.There is a character that moves me most, whose name is Frodo Baggins. He is a hobbit living in Shire, but the ordinary hobbitbears the burden voluntarilywhich seems can ‟t be completed. It‟s true that he is one of the Nine Walkers in the company of ring but, nevertheless, all the main job falls upon his shoulders.Frodo Baggins, like Jesus, bears his cross throughout the three parts of the fantasy adventure, not trusting anyone with his heavy and, at times, dangerous burden.Despite knowing that his true friend Sam is always ready to help, Frodo knows-he is the one responsible for the outcome of the journey.Frodo, as we all know, is a strong character bearing the One Ring longer thananyone else.Prolonging his life, the ring undermines his health however. After the journey, his distinctive mark is the scar on his left chest, wounded by the King …sNazgul‟s blade. What‟s more, he was short of one of his fingers, which was bitten off by Gollum together with the ring on the slope of the Mountain Doom. It‟s hard to imagine that an ordinary person can complete the task.Frodo wants to give up during the journey, but he doesn‟t turn back, for he holds on to the belief that there must be something good in this world which worth fighting for.Even if you are not powerful, not strong, you can change the world like any great man. This is what I learn from” The Lord of the Rings”.Everyone can be a lord.第三篇:指环王上个世纪五十年代,JRR托尔金先生出版了他的《指环王》小说三部曲,几乎影响了当时西方世界流行文化的方方面面:游戏、类型小说、音乐和电影。
the lord of the ring指环王英文观后感

The Reading Report of <The Lord of The Ring>The lord of rings was written by John Tolkien in 1955. He made up a mystical world called Middle Earth. And the start of the story, is not a person, but an object, a ring. The ring allows one to control a host of other rings handed down to the different peoples of Middle Earth: three rings belong to the immortal elves; seven to the dwarfs; and nine rings to mortal humans. The ring that rules all the others, forged using the fires of Mount Doom by the evil Wizard Sauron, gives its holder so much power that it corrupts all those who seek to wear it, even the purest. Of course, there are some peoples that are more pure than others. Humans generally seem incapable of wearing it without being corrupted by its influence. But there exists a diminutive people, the Hobbits, who do seem at least capable of carrying it without being polluted too much. So the fate had come to a Hobbit---- Frodo, who had to carry this Ring deep into the shadows of Mordor and unmake it in the place precisely it was made. If this Ring exists, the world may fall in the Power of the Dark Lord. So Frodo, with his gardener Sam, started an amazing journey towards the hope. But the Hobbits is a kind of people who loves peace and quiet. They don’t care much about affairs in the world, nor do they like to take part in adventures. But Frodo and Sam have no chance to choose their destiny. The future of the Middle Earth depends on this little creature. In the story of this trilogy Frodo is the most impressive character not because of his heroic movement, but his true personality. As a reflection of our human being, he has been afraid, he has been tempered by the power of the ring, and he has doubt about the possibility of the success. Just because he’s so similar to us, the journey becomes more dangerous and difficult, which makes it easier for this character to move us.I can still remember the narration of the beginning of the story. In a small Hobbits town called Shire, which is just like the unforgettable dream land, a Hobbit boy, Frodo, shiny like the bright sun shine, reading beneath the tree. His clear blue eyes represent the purest soul in the world, which lets me doubt about the truth that there’s no angle in the real world. He’s just an insignificant nobody, he never thinks about the ambitious dream of fighting for the justice and freedom. But he loved his uncle, his friends and his hometown Shire. He packed up and went on the journey for adventure just because he wanted to save Shire, the place he never wants to leave. The first time the story moves me is when the two hobbits stepped out of the wheat field of Shire. Samstopped and said:” one step further makes the furthest trip away from home”. Until that time had I realized what a great sacrifice they made. When the chance came to him that he can leave the ring with the king of the Elves, he made his decision. When he saw the outstanding representatives of different peoples quarreled with each other about how to deal with the ring, he stepped out and said:” I will take it! I will take it! I will take the ring to Mordor!” I was shocked and surprised by the great power that burst out from this little creature. The other theme of this book is the friendship that runs through the story. In the novel, after the wizard Gandalf and human Boromir died in succession on the way to the Mount Doom, Frodo crumbled down. He began to hate the ring, and cursed it that why it had chosen him to be the carrier. He picked himself up quickly and decided not to bring anyone else in this dangerous journey, he wanted to shoulder this great responsibility by himself. So he got the only little boat and set out. At that time, his friend Sam found him and jumped into the river though he couldn’t swim. Sam embraced Frodo closely and said “I made a promise:Don’t you leave him. And I don’t mean to, I don’t mean to.”The whole story gets to its most exciting part when Frodo and Sam finally made their way to the Mount Doom. The ring’s ex-holder Gollum took the chance to guide Frodo and Sam to the Mount Doom and wanted to get the ring back. So Gollum sown discord between Frodo and Sam, which made Frodo drive away Sam mistakenly. But Sam didn’t leave his friend, instead, he followed them and protected Frodo when he got into danger. When Frodo got so tired that he could not stand up and go on the last few steps on the mount, Sam told him “I cannot take it, but I can take you." Then he carried Frodo on his back although he was as tired as Frodo. Looking at every difficult step Sam took, tears fill my eyes. Sam made the promise that he would accompany Frodo until the end of the trip, and finally he made it. The light of the fire on the Mount Doom shone on Sam’s face, I knew he would not give up from the fortitude of his expression. But Frodo hesitated, when they finally got to the top of the Mount Doom and he had the chance to destroy the ring forever just by loosed his hand and let the ring fall into the fire of the Mount Doom. It was not surprise for me, because nobody could resistant the temptation of the ring. After the long journey with the ring, it had been one part of his body, and corrupted his soul day by day. Sam shouted to him: Frodo, just drop it, please! But Frodo refused and turned back with the ring put on his finger. But thanks to Gullom, who was thought of dead before, came out and fought for the ring. And finally, Gullom fell down into the fire with the ring. In my opinion, the ring in the story represents the money and the power in the real world which was chased by many people even the kindest. After I checked the background information of the writer John Tolkien, I understand the novel better. He joined the army in the World War 2 andsuffered a lot in the war. So I have sufficient reasons to believe that the ring, the Mount Doom and all the evil characters in the novel was related to his horrible experience of the war. And the kindness, the bravery and the sacrificing spirit of different peoples on the Middle Earth represent the beautiful world he dreamed of.I’d like to sum up this with one sentence: read it and yo u will love it.。

"Frodo, don't you understand? It's his plan. He isn't going to invade the Shire. He couldn't! Not yet. He's trying to wear us down, grind us down, inch by inch, make our life a misery, a lifetime of darkness, labor, and despair. He's going to make the life of every hobbit, every creature in Shire, hellish. It's a slow evil. He's worse than a barbarian. He's a liar. A stinker. He's worse than anything you can possibly imagine."。

The Return of the King The armies of the Dark Lord are massing as his evil shadow spreads wider.Men,Dwarves,Elves and Ents unite forces to do battles against the dark.Meanwhile,Frodo and Sam struggle further into Mordor in their heroic quest to destory the One Ring.
Tage in the Shire, a young hobbit is entrusted with an immense task. He must make a perilous journey across MIDDLE EARTH to the Cracks of Doom, there to destory the Ruling Ring of Power——the only thing that prevents the dark lord's evil dominion.
Evil is readily recognizable by its ugliness and by its fruits. Goodness is equally recognizable and its fruits are more lasting. The author does not preach, but his good characters exemplify in action the virtues of mercy, perseverance, generosity, and friendship. Sauron, Saruman, and the Ringwraiths all embody the vices of hatred, greed, and the thirst for power. The influence of Sauron on those who once were normal men demonstrates the pervasiveness of evil, as does the ugliness of Sauron's land, Mordor. While the destruction of Sauron and the Ringwraiths suggests that evil can be overcome, it does not imply that the destruction of a major source of evil eliminates all evil. The Southrons continue to fight after Sauron's power has collapsed, Saruman's petty destroyers of good continue their work in the Shire, and Aragorn finds it necessary to establish guardians for his borders. Middle Earth after Sauron is no utopia, but it is a world very much like ours, one worth cultivating to bring forth beauty and goodness. In Gondor and in the Shire hope lives on.
The company of the Ring is sundered. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin, save for a mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go.
