My Dad’s Best FlowerI remember my first home was a small apartment on the second floor with a lovely and spacious balcony(阳台). When my mom was busy in the kitchen, she let me stay on the balcony watching the kids playing in the street. On that balcony I played sometimes with my elder sister,Maria. She was seven years old and when my mon was absent she was like a mother to me. The balcony was a great hobby place for my father. After his work he used to grow carnations(康乃馨)in the flower boxes. His carnations were red, pink and white, and everyone appreciated them for their beauty. He took care of them with so much love and devotion. He dealt carefully with his flowers like a mother taking care of her baby. Many times I sat on the floor of the balcony for hours observing him and his lovely flowers with patience. He was always doing something on that balcony. He was watering them every day, cleaning the balcony floor, changing the potting soil and when the stems(茎)were thick, strong and high enough, he started his improvement operation like a doctor. My dad took a tiny knife and with his left hand he held the stem of the carnation and measured the height. Then he made a small mark on the stem with his finger. Afterwards he made a sharp cut with the knife, just enough to fit in a grain of barley(插穗的芽). Then he bandaged the stem with a small bandage. His job was then to water the plants and to take care of them. “No one should touch them” , he said to mom. Every day, when he came home from work he went straight to the balcony.Mom used to tell us: “Do not touch daddy’s flowers. ” For us it was a fascinating experience to watch how the small stems were growing and making flowers. When the carnations had grown big enough, my dad enjoyed watching them every day. We the kids did too.

Para1:One day, my elder sister, who loved dad very much, had a great idea.Para2:When my dad arrived, he went as usual, straight to the balcony and saw his flowers lying on the floor like dead animals. Paragraph I: Ome day,my elder sister, tho loweddad very much, had a great idea.

Paragraph 2: When my dad arrived,he tvent asusual, straight to the balcony and saw his flowerslying on the floor like dead animals,一个dead就可以看出这一段应该是以消极的情绪开场的:爸爸带着愤怒和心疼的情绪来询问事情的来龙去脉。

Paragraph IOne day. my elder sister, who loved dad very much, had a great idea.Wanting to help dad, she cut the flowers from their stems and arranged them on the floor. She believed that dad would be verypleased to see them that way. When mom real ized what my sister had done, she didn't say a word. My sister didn't understand why we were so quiet without a word of appreciation. Paragraph 2When my dad arrived, he went as usual, straight to the balcony and saw his flowers lying on the floor like dead animals. He looked towards the street to see if there was one from the neighbors children who could have done it. Then he entered the living room and looked at mom in silence. We all waited for a punishment. Mom, who always taught us to tell the truth looked at dad and said. "We have no bad neighbors in our area. "Then with anice tone she continued, "No outsider did this great job, only our lovely daughter ,Maria". Dad’s face changed from tense to a smile and then he said “Do I have a better flower than my lovely daughter?" My sister smiled and gave dad a big hug.浙江省宁波市北仑中学2019-2020学年高二英语下学期期中试题第二节概要写作(满分25分)阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Sores Duman, 29-year-old, will see a movie with his mates Piebe and Martey this week. It might take more time than usual for his friends to get ready for this activity. Piebe is 79 and Martey 94. Mr. Duman lives at a care home in Deventer, Holland. His housemates’ average age is over 85. He has been there for three years, with five other university students and around 150 elderly residents. This is a project that provides them with free housing in exchange for 30 hours per month of their time living as a “good neighbor”.Both parties appear to benefit from the program. Cash-tripped young people like Mr. Duman save much money in rent every year. Living with the old also helps them learn to be more patient as a result of the experience; the pace of life is slower at the home. For another, the elderly enjoy young people’s being around. A resident puts his thumb up for the project: “We have parties, yoga classes, chatting here. Last week at my birthday, they put me into the walker and race me through the hall. Never a happier time than that!”Humanitas is not the first institution to urge old and young people to live together. Non-profit organizations across Spain and care homes in Britain, France and Cleveland, Ohio, have also experimented with the idea. A team from Finland visited Deventer and was inspired to start asimilar project.Such projects could help handle loneliness, an increasing problem across the rich world. The very old, the sick or disabled are most at risk of feeling lonely. It goes hand in hand with social isolation(孤立). About 18% of adult EU citizens see friends or family at most only once a month. Nearly half of the elderly over 65 say that television or pets are their main form of company. Loneliness is also considered to have serious health consequences. A study found that lonely people had on average a 26% higher risk of dying than those who were not lonely. And the problem may only get worse._______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________概要:A project in Holland provides free accommodation for young people as long as they live with elderly residents for some time per month. It helps the young save rent and gain patience, while the old people enjoy being accompanied. Actually, this practice has become increasingly popular recently around the world. Such projects could resolve loneliness among the elderly which may bring about social isolation and negatively impact health.

(A)After shopping for deals in stores on “Black Friday”, or online on “Cyber Monday”, Americans and people worldwide are preparing for newly popular “Giving Tuesday”. Starting in 2012, now the global event that is celebrated annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is the brainchild of 92nd Street Y, a cultural center in New York City and the United Nations Foundation. As the name indicates, “Giving Tuesday” is meant to restart the charitable season and therefore observed by raising funds for local nonprofits and schools, organizing food and clothing drives, and conducting random acts of kindness. In 2015, 700,000 people from 71 countries came together to donate $116.7 million in cash. An additional $1.08 million was spent on gifts. While the easiest way to participate is by donating to your favorite charity, this day can be celebrated in many other ways too. You can give back by volunteering at your local shelter or food bank, or even by donating blood. If all else fails, a purchase from the growing number of organizations that give a portion of their sales to charity will do the trick. But perhaps the best way to celebrate the day is by helping those nearest and dearest to you. Assist a family member with a simple chore like folding laundry, cooking dinner, or even reading to a younger sibling. No matter what you do, be sure to share your good deed on social media and inspire others to celebrate “Giving Tuesday” as well!21. What’s the main purpose of “Giving Tuesday”?A. To persuade more people to shop online.B. To make Thanksgiving Day enjoyable.C. To encourage more people to do charity.D. To get voluntary work better known.22. Why does the author advise sharing good deeds on social media?A. To donate money to local schools.B. To keep a record of one’s experience.C. To help people make new friends.D. To make “Giving Tuesday” more popular.23. Which section of a website does the text probably come from?A. Business.B. Culture.C. Education.D. Lifestyle.(B)It is well known to car drivers that red means “stop”, green means “go” and yellow means“hurry up and make that damn light”. Why those colors, though? The answer lies in the fact that the earliest traffic signals were designed for trains, not cars. They were red and green, gas-powered, and more than a little dangerous in the event of a leak.Red is an inherited (继承的) symbol from railroads, which symbolizes danger in many cultures. As red has a longer wavelength than any other color on the visible spectrum (光谱), it can be seen from a greater distance than other colors. Red has meant “stop” since long before cars existed, with train signals’ use of red dating back to the days when mechanical arms lifted and lowered to indicate whether the rail ahead was clear.Green’s wavelength is next to (and shorter than) yellow’s on the visible spectrum, meani ng it’s still easier to see than any color other than red and yellow. Back in the early days of railway lights, green meant “caution”, while the “all-clear” light was, well, clear or white. It is said that several disastrous collisions happened after an engineer mistook stars in the night for an all-clear. Thus, green became “go”, and for a long time, railways used only green and red to signal trains. From the earliest days of motoring up until mid-1900s, not all stop signs were red—many were yellow, because at night it was all but impossible to see a red stop sign in a poorly lit area. In 1950 the yellow stop-sign craze began in Detroit, a city that five years later installed its first electric traffic signal, which happened to include the very first yellow traffic light. But what of those mysterious yellow stop-signs? As materials and technologies evolved, the ability to produce highly reflective signs meant that red could resume its natural spot in the sign hierarchy (层次体系,等级体系), leaving the still-highly-visible yellow to the domain (领域) of “caution”. That’s why school zones and buses, crosswalks, and other important warnings are yellow today.24. What’s the main reason for the color red’s long being used to mean “stop”?A. It has the longest wavelength on the visible spectrum.B. It represents danger in many cultures.C. It can be seen even in the dark area.D. People prefer red to other colors.25. Which of the following may the author agree with?A. The meaning of red is culture–specific.B. Yellow functioned as stop signs in the 1900s.C. Green’s wavelength is just second to that of red.D. Green’s role in traffic lights has changed over time.26. What does the passage mainly talk about?A. The significance of road traffic signs.B. The history of railroad transportation.C. The symbolic meaning of different colors.D. The origin and development of traffic lights.(C)Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is gaining global popularity. According to a government white paper, TCM has been introduced in 183 countries and regions around the world.Westerners’ understanding of TCM, however, may be limited to acupuncture, cupping and massage (按摩). For instance, the purple, injury-like marks left on US swimmer Michael Phelps’ back from cupping for the purpose of relaxing his muscles and reducing pain became the center of attention during the Rio Olympics in 2016.As a matter of fact, Chinese herbs play a more important role in curing diseases and keeping people in good health in the TCM treatment system than physical treatment. It is therefore disheartening to know that while 103 World Health Organization member countries have approved the practice of acupuncture, not many recognize Chinese herbal medicine. TCM falls far behind Western medicine owning partly to the slow development of Chinese herbs.Herbs are made into pills, powder and soup, and the kind of herbs used, their quality and quantity, and the processing of the ingredients (原材料) jointly determine the effectiveness of the prescription. Compared with Western medicine, which has standardized drug production processes and treatment methods, TCM lacks standardization, with the chemical composition and functions of its medicines being unclear and their effects being unstable. Standardization has improved in recent decades, with an increasing number of factories producing patented TCM drugs.Another factor that has prevented the development of TCM prescription drugs is the lack of creativity. While Western medicine-making companies come up with new products every year, TCM drug producers tend to make medicine according to prescriptions handed down from the past. Chinese chemist Tu Youyou’s winning the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her research into malaria (疟疾) treatment may drive creativity to some extent in China’s TCM industry. However, the current state of affairs cannot be changed within a short time.27. The author mentions the example of Michael Phelps to show that __________.A. he was injured in his swimmingB. cupping is a kind of important TCM treatmentC. Westerners know a little about TCMD. Westerners attach great importance to TCM28. Why don’t some member countries of WHO recognize Chinese herbal medicine?A. Because Chinese herbs can cure diseases.B. Because they only approve the practice of acupuncture.C. Because Western medicine is more effective.D. Because medicine made out of Chinese herbs develops slowly.29. Compared with Western medicine, what is the weak point of TCM in Paragraph 4?A. The methods of planting herbs.B. The effectiveness of prescription.C. Lacking in standardization.D. Its stable functions.30. The lack of creativity in TCM refers to the fact that __________.A. medicine-making companies lack creativityB. prescriptions are got from the pastC. Western companies are more experiencedD. medicine-making companies lack driving force21-23 CDB 24-26 ADD 27-30 CDCB浙江省嘉兴市第五高级中学2019-2020学年高二英语下学期期中测试试题第一节(共10个小题;每小题2.5分,满分25分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

A travel diary is an individual's record of his or her travels. This may be kept in a personal journal or diary and only read by the individual, or it may be kept online in a blog. The individualmay then share the travel diary with others. Many people keep travel diaries so they better remember all the details of the trip, and keep track of where they have been, particularly if theyare frequent travelers. There is no right or wrong way to keep a travel diary. Some people just buy a simple diary andset down basic notes throughout their trip. Others will buy a designated travel diary and write lengthy descriptions for each day or special event of the trip. When journaling in any form, it is important not to get bogged down in the way it is "supposed" to be done, and just write in the waythat seems the most natural.A travel diary is not only used for writing. Many diaries have places to insert photos or souvenirs, such as ticket stubs or concert shows. Keeping all of your travel memorabilia in one place is a great way to save them for later trips, and many people choose to combine their travel diaries and photo albums into a sort of scrapbook. Peter, a 5-year-old boy, showed such great interest in sea shells that he would rush to pick them up with his 3-year-old sister, Shirley. They screamed out their joy as Peter collected his treasure into his pockets. For Peter, sea shells lay shinning on the peaceful beach, waiting for him, just like stars twinkling ( 闪烁) in the sky. As waves touched them, they seemed to be flowers blooming (绽放)in gentle wind. One day, Peter was wandering through market with Shirley, with some shells in his pocket. Suddenly Peter found his younger sister was lagging ( 落后) behind. He stopped and looked back, finding Shirley was standing in front ofa toy shop and was staring at something with great interest. The boy went back to her and asked, "What do you want?" Shirley pointed at the doll, wearing a smile on her innocent face. Peter held his younger sister's tiny hand, walking into the shop. He tiptoed ( 踮起脚尖) to reach for the doll, and like a responsible elder brother, gave the precious doll to Shirley. Holding tightly the doll, the sister was very very happy. The shopkeeper was watching everything and getting amused to see the matured ( 成熟的) behavior of the boy. Now the boy came to the counter and asked the shopkeeper, "How much does this doll cost, Sir?”The shopkeeper was a cool man, who had suffered from something in his life. So he asked the boy with love and affection, "Well, what can you pay? "Peter reached into his clothes for money that was intended for these two little guys' breakfast. Having counted the money, Peter put it carefully on the counter, asking again, "Sir, is it enough for my little sister's doll?”The amusing scene just in front of the shopkeeper eventually brought a smile on his face. Shaking his head slightly, he replied, "My boy, I am afraid it seems not to be enough.”注意:1.所续写短文的词数应为 150 左右;2.应使用 5 个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好:4.续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。
