DO NOT place inside a vehicle trunk or inside the passenger compartment.2.Secure the container with proper restraining devices to prevent movement in all directions. Proper restraining devices include tie-down straps, cables or chains that are in good condition and strong enough to withstand the forces that may beencountered during transportation. There should not be any sharp edges in contact with the plastic tank. The restraining devices may be wrapped around the tank body in the grooved ribs, around the molded handle, or around the axle. Thecommittee has questioned the need for the requirements of Table 4-1 for CSAG40.21 steel. They would like to remove G40.21 7.2.1 and Table 4, if API 650can be modified to remove requirement specific to CSA steels to comply withAPI 650, Table 4-1.There is no need for CSA G40.21 grades found in API 620/650 to have aspecial requirement to meet the limitations of Table 4-1.See Attachment to this Ballot for more background.PROPOSED CHANGESRed means a proposed change, blue means comments to explain the change in red.4.2.3 CSA SpecificationsCSA Specification G40.21, Grades 260W/(38W), 300W/(44W), and 350W/(50W) are approved for plates. If impact tests are required, WT Grades are specified.Plates furnished to CSA G40.21 in Grades 260W/(38W), 300W/(44W), and 350W/(50W) is acceptable within the applicable limitations stated below. (If impact tests are required, Grades 260W/[38W],300W/[44W], and 350W/[50W] are designated as Grades 260WT/[38WT], 300WT/[44WT], and350WT/[50WT], respectively.)Imperial unit equivalent grades of CSA Specification G40.21, shown in parenthesis, are also acceptable.a.The W grades may be semi-killed or fully killed. This is redundant as it is already covered byTable 4-4a and 4-4b.b.Fully killed steel made to fine-grain practice must be specified when required. This is redundantas it is already covered by Table 4-4a and 4-4b.c.Elements added for grain refining or strengthening shall be restricted in accordance with Table 4-1.Not required.d.Plates shall have tensile strengths that are not more than 140 MPa (20ksi) above the minimumspecified for the grade. The tensile strength of each of the 3 listed CSA grades are permitted a max-min range of 25 ksi; however API 36, ENI and ISO steels listed in API 650 (outside of Group VI) are also permitted a tensile strength range > 20 ksi, so this requirement is does not appear to be critical outside of Group VI. All of Group VI steels have a maximumpermissible range of 20 ksi. Therefore, since CSA grades are not used as Group VI steels, this requirement should not apply.e.Grades 260W/(38W) and 300W(44W) are acceptable for plate to a maximum thickness of 25mm(1 in.) if semi-killed and to a maximum thickness of 40 mm (1.5 in.) if fully killed and made tofine-grain practice.Grade 350W(50W) is acceptable for plate to a maximum thickness of 45 mm (1.75 in.) (insert plates to a maximum thickness of 100mm [4 in.]) if fully killed and made to fine-grain practice. These thickness limitations are contained within the CSA specification and do not need to be repeated here – no other steel grade spells out this type of limitation.Table 4-1 –Maximum Permissible Alloy Content (Move to after 4.2.7.5 and before 4.2.8)1.When the use of these alloys or combinations of them is not included in the materialspecification, their use shall be at the option of the plate producer, subject to the approval of the Purchaser. These elements shall be reported when requested by the Purchaser. When more restrictive limitations are included in the material specification, those shall govern.2.On product analysis, the material shall conform to these requirements, subject to the productanalysis tolerances of the specification.3.When columbium is added either singly or in combination with vanadium, it shall be restrictedto plates of 13 mm (0.50 in.) maximum thickness unless combined with 0.15% minimumsilicon.4.When nitrogen (< 0.015%) is added as a supplement to vanadium, it shall be reported, and theminimum ratio of vanadium to nitrogen shall be 4:1.Attachment: More Background InformationCSA G40.21 Steel Plate1) CSA G40.21, 7.2.1 states: “For American Petroleum Institute (API) plate applications listed in API 620and 650, elements added for grain refining or strengthening (see Table 3) shall be in accordance withTable 4.”2) Table 3 presents limits for C, P, S, Si and “Grain refining elements” for the grades listed in API 620/650.Grain refining elements max = 0.10 with Item (c). Item (c) of Table 3 states “Aluminum may be used asa grain refining element without prior approval by the purchaser and, when so used, shall not beincluded in the summation of grain refining elements included in Table 3. The elements columbium(also known as niobium) and vanadium may be used singly or in combination up to the total percentage indicated, except where columbium is used singly or in combination with vanadium in plates thicker than 14mm (1/2 in) or in shapes heavier than Group 1, in which case the silicon content shall be 0.15%minimum. This restriction does not apply if the steel fulfills the requirements of Item (b). Item (b) states”At the purchaser‟s request or at the producer‟s discretion, the steel may be made with no minimumsilicon content, provided that the steel contains a minimum of 0.015% acid s oluble aluminum or 0.020% total aluminum content. Some of these limitations are redundantly listed in Table 4-13) Essar Steel (Toronto based) manufactures CSA G40.21 steel plate. They were contacted and statedthat for the 3 grades allowed by API 620/650, the elements listed in Table 4-1 are not intentionallyadded to the plate steel in the grades listed in API 620/650, except in the case of 350W/50W wherevanadium is added with a maximum limit of 0.10%.4) Arcelor Mittal has published a Cross Reference of Canadian Steels as follows:limits of 0.20%. A633C has a columbium range restriction between 0.01%- 0.05%. G40.21 and A516 have a minimum of 0.20% copper if specified, but no maximum.C urrent API 6501) 4.2.7.5 The use or presence of columbium, vanadium, nitrogen, copper, nickel, chromium ormolybdenum shall not exceed the limitations of Table 4-1 for all Group VI materials (see Table 4-4a and 4-4b) and ISE 630, Grade E355. No CSA steel is listed under Group VI. However Table 4-1 is still needed to meet 4.2.7.5 for Group VI materials.2) No other API 650 plate that is outside of Group VI except ISO 630 Grade E355 is subject to therequirements of Table 4-1. The adherence of E355 to Table 4-1 came from agenda item 620-297 and 650-684 (D. Miller, 2009).API 650 Historical1) Second Edition, 1964: CSA G40.8 Grades A and B plate was first recognized in API 650. Nometallurgical limits are stated.2) Fourth Edition 1970: CSA G40.8 is listed as having a maximum thickness of 1-1/2”. No metallurgicallimits are stated. Appendix G was added providing a special design basis for high-strength steels with improved notch-toughness (a copy of Appendix G was not located for this edition o f API 650).3) Sixth Edition 1978: CSAG40.21 – Grades 38W and 44W was recognized. Elements added for grainrefining or strengthening were restricted to Table G-2 and plates were required to have a maximum of20 ksi above the minimum tensile strength specified (again, no Appendix G available).4) Seventh Edition 1980: CSA G40.21 Structural Quality Steel had the same grain refining and tensilelimits as in the Sixth Edition, only Table 2-1 had replaced Table G-2. Table 2-1 is identical (with some minor editorials to the notes) to the Current Edition Table 4-1. In section 2.2.6 General Requirements for Delivery the following was stated: “The use or presence of columbium, vanadium, nitrogen, copper, nickel, chromium, or molybdenum shall not exceed the limitations in Table 2-1.” This applied to anysteel plate, not just CSA plate. CSA maximum thicknesses were specified as follows:5)Ninth Edition, Addendum 4 1997: Table 4-1 is identical to the current edition. Section 2.2.3corresponds to 4.2.3 in the current edition and is identical. except for minor wording changes. Section2.2.6.5 changed to: “The use or presence of columbium, vanadium, copper, nickel, chromium, ormolybdenum shall not exceed the limitations of Table 2-1 for all Group VI materials (see Table 2-3) and ISO 630, Grade Fe 510.” The limitations of Table 2-1 no longer applied to non Group VI materialsexcept ISO 630 Grade Fe 510 and CSA G40.21.。

Oil-immersed dual-sensing weak link cartridge fuseGeneralEaton's Cooper Power™ series oil-immersed dual-sensing weak link cartridge fuse is aninternal, "weak link" expulsion fuse designed for use in transformer oil or approved equivalent and to be used on the high-voltage or primary side of distribution transformers. It provides an economical means of fusing because it protects distribution systems from failed transformers and protects transformers from excessive overloads and fault conditions.Dual-sensing links sense both internal faultcurrents and transformer fluid temperature. They will limit long-term transformer heating caused by overloads and high temperature environments.Dual-sensing cartridge fuses can be used alone or combined in a two-fuse protection system where high-current faults may be encountered. In a two-fuse system, the cartridge fuse is connected in series and coordinated with the primary current-limiting fuse. This arrangement allows low-current faults and overloads to be cleared by the internal cartridge fuse, while high-current faults are cleared by the current-limiting fuse.InstallationNo special tools are required. The cartridge fuse is either bushing or terminal board-mountedinside the transformer tank with the fuse lead end downward at least 2.0 inches (51 mm) beneath the level of the dielectric fluid. The minimum required distance from ground is: 8.3 kV 2.0 in. IntroductionThis manual has been prepared to serve as a guide to insure continuous satisfactory service and assist in restoring of a valve to proper working condition.It covers 'NEWCO' Forged Class 150 through 2500, bolted/welded bonnet, outside screw and yoke, flanged /threaded /socket welded, carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy steel valves. The installation, storage, operation, disassembly / reassembly inspection and repair, service problems, maintenance and preventive maintenance covering these valves are also included in this manual.Prior to performing any work on these valves, it would be useful to have a general understanding of their construction. Chapter 4 shows the valve's basic construction.1.2. Safety InformationThe following general safety notices supplement the specific warnings and cautions appearing elsewhere in this manual. They are recommended precautions that must be understood and applied during operation and maintenance of the equipment covered herein.a. To avoid injury, never attempt disassembly while there are pressures either upstream ordownstream. Even when replacing packing rings caution is necessary to avoid possibleinjury.b. Do not attempt to disassemble a valve while there is pressure in the line. Make sure bothupstream and downstream pressures are removed before disassembly. Disassemble withcaution in the event that all pressures have not been relieved.c. Prior to replacing packing rings, remove all pressure from the valve. The packing can also bereplaced while there is pressure BUT the valve must be tightly backseated. This will notinsure complete safety and it is not recommended. If the backseat faces have been damagedby foreign material the backseat may leak into the packing chamber.2. STORAGE, PREPARATION AND INSTALLATION2.1. Storage.Storage.2.1.1. TemporaryIf valves are to be stored before installation, the following should be observed:a. Keep the valves wrapped and protected as shipped from the manufacturer.b. Do not remove the protective end covering until the valve is ready for installation. This will reduce the possibility offoreign material damaging internal valve components.c. Valves stored outdoors should be positioned such that water does not accumulate in the valve body.Term Storage.2.1.2. LongIf the valves are to be stored in excess of one year, they should be prepared in the following manner:a. Remove the packing and apply a preservative to the packing chamber.b. Do not remove the protective end covering.c. Valve which will remain in storage for an excessive period of time should have a preservative applied to the externalsurface.d. Do not store the valves outdoors.2.2. Preparation.a. Remove the valve end protection.b. Prior to shipment from the manufacturer, a preservative may have been applied to the inner body of the valve. Thispreservative may be removed with a solvent.c. The inside of the valve should be inspected and blown out with compressed air. Adjacent piping must be clean and freefrom debris to prevent damage to the valve.d. Make sure the valve is positioned such that there is sufficient space so that the handwheel is easily and safely reachedand there is enough clearance for the stem when the valve is open.e. Install the valve according to the flow indicator on the valve body. Note gate valves can be installed in any positionwithout regard for the direction of the flow, unless marked with the flow direction.f. Gate valves and globe valves are not designed for throttling and should be kept in the fully open or closedposition. Should the valve be used in a partially open or closed position, the bottom of the wedge and the seat may become eroded in a very short time. This may also cause a chatter noise in the line.2.3. Installation2.3.1. Flanged Valves.Bolting and gasket material should be compatible with the valve's body material and pressure class. Care should be taken that flanges are straight and parallel. Bolts should be evenly tightened in a star pattern. This will ensure a uniform gasket loading.2.3.2. Socket and Threaded Valves.Ensure that the socket/threaded connection is clean and free from any foreign debris or burrs. For any welding required, check that body material (as specified on nameplate), and pipe materials are compatible for weld procedure.2.3.3. Valve Installation by Welding.Unless the valve contains PTFE packing and/or gasket, leave valves assembled and in the lightly closed position during installation, welding and post-weld heat treatment. This will prevent the valve seat from floating or warping during the process. After welding completion, open the valve and flush the line to clean out any foreign matter.Valves containing PTFE packing and/or gasket must be disassembled for installation as the welding temperature can adversely affect the PTFE components. Match mark each component during disassembly for proper reassembly.The responsibility for welding of the valves into piping systems is that of those performing the welding. Refer to ASME B31.1, B31.3, etc. Written welding procedures covering all attributes of the process and materials to be welded shall be in accordance with Section IX of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and any additional requirements from the applicable piping code including any possible necessary localized PWHT depending on material specifications.3. MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR3.1. Inspection and MaintenanceA periodic inspection and maintenance schedule should be established for each valve. The time frame given for the implementation of these schedules are to be used as a guide only in establishing routine inspection and maintenance schedules. Exact time periods for performing these procedures cannot be provided due to the unknown nature of the service conditions each valve is in.3.1.1. Periodic Inspection.A periodic inspection should be performed on each unit. As mentioned previously, this time frame should be adjusted depending on usage and service conditions. An infrequently used unit may have a longer time period between the performance of a periodic inspection. If, on the other hand, a valve is in constant service a shorter time period between inspections would be appropriate.The inspection is used as a means to identify a problem before it can cause a shutdown of the system. A periodic inspection should include the following:a. Examine the valve stem for cleanliness and lubrication. The stem threads should be coated with a clean grease lubricant.b. Some valves have a grease fitting in the bonnet or yoke. If it is dry, lubricate with a hand grease gun.c. Open and close the valve. The actions should be smooth without any binding of the stem through full travel.d. If valve is in service and under pressure:i) Examine the body to bonnet connection for leakage through the gasket. If leakage is found, tighten thebonnet nuts evenly in a star pattern until the leakage stops. Do not exceed the maximum torque values inTable A. If the leakage persists, see section 3.2. (NOTE: this does not apply to welded bonnets) ii) Check the stem packing for any leakage during the opening and closing action. If a leak is found, tighten the gland nuts alternately with no more than a quarter turn on each nut until the leak stops. If the leakagepersists, see section 3.2.iii) Inspect the exterior of the valves for cleanliness. Remove any dirt, grime or oil from the valve body and bonnet.3.1.2. Post Inspection.After completion of this periodic inspection, valves that are providing satisfactory service require no further disassembly or inspection. Should a valve be found which is not performing satisfactorily, see section 3.2 "Troubleshooting".3.1.3. Maintenance.Other than periodic inspection, no routine maintenance is required. Routine replacement of parts, such as gasket and packing is not usually performed until these parts fail. Once in service, it may become apparent that these and other parts require repair or replacement due to usage and service conditions. A maintenance schedule should be developed taking these conditions into consideration to replace parts which have a tendency to wear within a given time frame. These can then be replaced during a routine overhaul prior to any failure.3.2. Trouble-shootingThe following chart will cover the various problems that are common to most valves. Stem Packing ReplacementWARNINGTo prevent injury ensure that all pressure is removed from the valve both upstream and downstream before disassembly.a. Check original tightness of valve operation. Remove gland nuts. Lift the gland up the stem clear of the packing chamber.b. Remove the existing or defective packing rings with a sharp tool or packing remover. Do not scratch or score themachined surfaces of the stem or packing chamber.c. Examine the machined surface of the stem in the packing chamber. Remove any scratches, scoring or burrs with emerycloth or hand filing. Clean the stem with a solvent soaked cloth.d. Count original number of rings and measure x-section thickness. If original packing cannot be counted or measured,follow the steps below:1.) Measure the stem diameter (OD), stuffing box diameter (ID) and stuffing box depth (d).2.) Packing x-section (R) = (ID - OD)/23.) #rings = (1.25 x d)/Re. Install new packing. Cut each ring at a 45-degree angle and stagger the joints at 120 degrees, every fourth joint will be inthe same position as the first. Install rings individually using a split ring spacer, compressing each ring by hand tightening = 1/4 turns on each gland nut.f. When packing chamber becomes filled with packing, reassemble gland and gland flange. Alternate tightening glandflange nuts 1/4 turn at a time until eye bolts begin to get tight. (If gland travels more than the height of one packing ring into the packing chamber, insert one more ring and repeat step F until chamber is filled.g. Compare valve operation to original tightness. If valve operation is considerably tighter than original operating tightness,back off 1/4 turn on each gland nut and recheck tightness.h. Several hours after a repacked valve has been returned to service, inspect the area to ensure full compression, tightbolting and no leakage. NEWCO FORGED STEEL VALVES4.1. Bolted/Welded Bonnet Gate and Globe Valves4.1.1. OperationBy turning the handwheel counter-clockwise, the stem, to which the wedge (or disc) is attached at the base, is drawn up through the yokesleeve. By turning the handwheel clockwise, the action is reversed and the wedge (or disc) is lowered into the closed position.4.1.2. DisassemblyWARNINGTo prevent injury ensure that all pressure is removed from the valve both upstream and downstream before disassembly.NOTE: Welded bonnet valves can be disassembled but is not justifiable due to the amount of time required to do this.a. Close the valve and then open, two full handwheelturns. Match or mark flange with metal tool or paint to clearly show the original position for reassembly.b. Caution should be taken when loosening body-bonnetbolting, as pressure may still be present in bonnet.c. Once assured there is no more pressure in the line,remove the bonnet bolting. Lift the bonnet-stem-wedge (or disc) assembly out of the body, taking care not to scratch the seating surface. For gate valves, as the assembly is drawn out of the body, match or mark the wedge so that it can be replaced in the same position.d. Remove the bonnet gasket from the valve body flange.e. For gate valves, remove the wedge from the stem "T"head, carefully protecting the seating surface. . For globe valves, remove the disc from the stem by cutting tackwelds and unthreading the disc nut or bushing.f. Unfasten the handwheel nut. Remove the handwheelfrom the valve.g. To remove the valve stem, loosen the gland bolting andgland. Disengage the stem from the yokesleeve byrotating it counterclockwise and pulling from belowuntil the stem is free of the packing chamber. Becareful not to score or scratch the stem machinedsurface or the threads.4.1.3. Reassembly a. Thoroughly clean the valve interior, body and bonnetflange surfaces and all components. Remove all scale, oil, grease or other foreign material. Wipe the seating surface of the wedge (or disc) and valve seat with a solvent soaked cloth.b. Install the stem carefully, sliding it through the packingand gland until the threads are engaged with the yokesleeve. Slowly rotate the stem clockwise until it extends beyond the bonnet.c. Place handwheel in position atop the valve, stem nut forgate valves and stem for globe valves. Secure with handwheel nut.d. Position a new gasket on the body flange aligned withthe bolt holes. The gasket should not extend over the open body cavity. The gasket may be coated with a light oil.e. For gate valves, install the wedge to the "T" head of thestem connection. For globe valves, install the disc and secure it with the bushing or disc nut to the stem and tackweld.f. Lift the bonnet-stem-wedge assembly up and over thebody. Check the location marks on the body, bonnet flange and wedge. Carefully lower the assembly until the body and bonnet flanges and the location marks meet. Again, caution must be used to prevent scoring or scratching of the seating surfaces. Keeping the bonnet stationary, open the valve a few turns to ensure the wedge (or disc) is not touching the seat.g. Line up the body and bonnet holes. Make sure thegasket does not extend into any of the bolt holes. Install the bonnet bolting and tighten in a star pattern to evenly load the gasket to the torque values listed in Table A.h. Install new packing as per section 3.3.i. Align and center the gland in the packing chamber.Evenly tighten the gland nuts until snug, then alternate tightening with no more than a quarter turn on each.j. Open and close the valve using the handwheel. The action should be smooth and regular through full stem travel.4.2. Bolted/Welded Cap Swing-Type Check Valves4.2.1. OperationThe Swing Check valve's operation is automatic and requires no assistance. When the flow exerts sufficient pressure against the disc to overcome the disc's weight, the disc, which is set on a hinge, lifts allowing the flow to continue through the piping system. As the pressure decreases, the disc lowers until its own weight forces it to seat. This prevents the possibility of a reversal in the flow.4.2.2. DisassemblyWARNINGTo prevent injury ensure that all pressure is removed from the valve both upstream and downstream before disassembly.NOTE: Welded cap valves can be disassembled but is not justifiable due to the amount of time required to do this.a. Match or mark cover and body with metal tool orpaint to clearly show the original position for reassembly.b. Caution should be taken when loosening body-coverbolting, as pressure may still be present.c. Once assured there is no more pressure in the line,remove the cover bolting and lift the cover off the body.d. Remove the gasket from the valve body flange.e. If so equipped remove any tackwelds.f. Remove the hinge pin from support arms in cap. Itmay be necessary to use a punch, as pin may have been penned over.g. To remove the disc from swing arm, remove thecotter pin and unfasten the disc nut. 4.2.3. Reassemblya. Thoroughly clean the valve interior and allcomponents. Remove all scale, oil, grease, or otherforeign material. Wipe the seating surface of the disc and valve seat with a solvent soaked cloth.Clean the body and cover flange surfaces and all bolting.b. Install the disc and secure it to the arm with the discnut. Insert and secure a new pin (peen over if required). Do not use the old pin unless a new oneis unavailable.c. Place the disc-arm assembly in the valve and insertthe hinge pin.d. Replace any tackwelds as required.e. Open the valve by lifting the arm. The action shouldbe smooth and regular through full hinge pin rotation.f. Position a new gasket on the body flange alignedwith the bolt holes. The gasket should not extend over the open body cavity. Do not reuse a gasket.The gasket may be coated with a light oil.g. Line up the body and cover holes. Ordering PartsAlthough valves have many parts common to one another, they are not interchangeable, other that with those of identical material, size and pattern. All the valve's parts can be replaced, but with proper care and maintenance, they will provide continuous satisfactory service.
